I'm trying to install Swype beta on my nexus 4, but after I download and installer the installer it hangs after I log in. The new gesture keyboard is nice but I miss some of the features in Swype. Is the N4 not supported? Has anyone else had better luck?
Same for me...

Does swype offer the predictive text as you're swyping like the stock keyboard? The last version I've tried of swype didn't.
I've installed without any problems. It was one of the first things I installed on the phone

It works if you have a titanium backup to restore, but its not working at the moment via the download/swype installer option. I think they are aware of the problem and working on it (from the Swype forums)
Missing it but the stock android one is doing an OK job in the meantime...
I installed swype beta just fine.
I get to the screen where it lets me choose a version to download but never loads the choices.
Try flex T9 instead. Installed no problem.
For the people who were able to install swype, is swype keeping your custom words? I'm noticing that I'm unable to add custom words to the personal dictionary. I'm not sure if it's a bug with the latest swype or it's just incompatible with the nexus 4.

I had the same problem with the install. Just used a titanium backup as others said and it works for me.

Anyone find a solution while staying stock?
Download and install this. Works like a charm and skips the beta installer

Well it worked... but it's version 1.0.3.5809. Isn't that a pretty old version? Don't see some of the Swype connect options that are available in the latest beta.
It's one version old and still works with theme chooser. The new version has its own theme chooser thingy.
If someone with the newest version would go in to data/apps and find the com.nuance.swype.input-1.apk and upload it that would be great too.

@eniris - Thanks a lot!
I'm always wary of files people I don't know post, so scanned it with both ESET on my laptop and Lookout on my Nexus 4 to be sure. It's clean, and it works perfectly - it's version 1.3.1.9274.
Swype is perfect as a keyboard, but the new Android keyboard's speech recognition is better (it's real-time vs waiting for the Swype one to process, and it's nice that you can pause and easily record more). Now I only wish there was a quicker way to swap between the Swype keyboard and Google Voice Typing. When you're in an input field, you have to pull down the top menu, tap "Choose input method", and then tap "Google voice typing." It's way more cumbersome that just hitting the little icon, but doable. Maybe I'll just get used to the Swype one.
Anyway - thanks again eniris!

will this update like the real beta?
Had the exact same problem on my N4.

Hi,
yesterday, I've received an update which I've installed now:
AP,CP: I9505XXUAME2
CSC: I9505VFGAMDC
Since then, the stock email app is acting very weird. When writing text, as soon as you use any punctuation, exclamation mark, question mark... , the cursor goes crazy and jumps around, making weird corrections to text that has been previously written. Even just copy/pasting an URL into empty email and trying to enter new line will have weird, unusable result.
This bug is easy to repeat:
- open stock e-mail app (not gmail!)
- start writing a new email
- write a sentence in a language of yours (I've tried English, as well as my native language that's supported on the phone)
- as soon as you enter any of the following: . ! ? and press enter (new line), the just written sentence will get split in two and some random editing will be applied as well
Anyone else experienced such behavior? I'm on stock firmware, not rooted, stock keyboard.
Not keen to factory reset just yet, as it involves a looooot of re-setting everything
Thanks!
G.
Very similar bug appears on mine too.
It renders this phone unusable for business purposed, Exchange client is totally broken.
I'm unable to respond to work emails!
What a disappointment, how could it pass QA????!!!

Yep same here - useless when I need to respond to business emails on the road

Installing Swype keyboard from the Google play solved this problem! It's some kind of bug in SwiftKey, stock keyboard is based on SwiftKey. There's incompatibility between stock keyboard and stock email client.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda premium
At first I thought it was swiftkey causing the issues so then went back to stock and it did the same. The explanation above saying that stock is based on swiftkey may explain why.
I've since installed AquaMail as a stopgap....swiftkey and stock keyboard work as intended with this.
And, to be honest, even though aqua mail was going to be a temp solution, I'm quite, no, very much liking it and will probably continue to use it as my main client.

To wrap it up. There are two solutions:
1. change your keyboard to Swype or anything EXCEPT stock keyboard and SwiftKey
2. change your email client without need to change your keyboard (!!!)
It's an obvious bug that should be fixed in future software releases.
There is a third alternative
3. Disable the auto-correction option on the standard keyboard. The suggestion will stay on, so you can touch the corrected (or predicted) word to change what you typed, but it will not be inserted automatically when you touch only the space bar. Which is not too great a penalty

hi all. just got a nexus 4. coming from tmobile G2. the G2 had embedded swype keyboard which i loved. nexus 4 doesn't have that. so i installed swype app from play store. while this swype is nice, it doesn't automatically remember the words that i type that are not in the swype dictionary (like curses and such). i have to click "add to dictionary" after each word that it doesn't recognize.
the question i have: is there a way to get the "old" swype back or perhaps somehow enable automatic memorization of the words on this one? perhaps anyone has other suggestions for similar keyboards?
thank you

You can make swype automatically remember words.
In swype settings go to My Words -> Change Dictionary Behavior and then choose "Allow swype to automatically add words to my dictionary".

The default Google Keyboard supports swipe to type. It is very similar to Swype although maybe not quite as full featured. I find the stock keyboard works quite well.

i think its locked because my phone is not rooted yet and thats why i can't back this app up. i was going to root my phone today and since i can't back it up i may lose it from the phone. if i have to install it again, will they charge me for it the second time or since i paid for it i will be able to get it free? thanks.
Once you paid for it every device you sign on to the play store allows you to download it free. So any device running any ROM linked to you gmail account
And most ROMs here have googles version of swipe built in, works great

Swype and swiftkey have dictionary cloud sync. That's a very nice feature for those who have 2 or more android devices.
i paid 99 cents for it so not too bad of an investment. love the keyboard, but i wish that when i disable automatic correction i would still be able to have it add words automatically. seems like it only does that when the auto correction is enabled.
Hey all - running stock, rooted on the latest MJ7 update and it seems since this update the stock Sammy keyboard refuses to remember any custom words I input. For example: go to my banking app and enter my user ID in the required field ... I opt to remember the my user ID but once I back out of the app the word is forgotten. If I stay in the app the word will be remembered, but once I exit the apps the words are gone. It's like this for every app! I've tried everything to get it to remember words but nothing works! It was working fine before the MJ7 update ... I've cleared app data and cache, Uninstalled Xposed and nothing seems to get it working ... switched to Swype and it works fine there so it seems to be isolated to the Sammy KB.
Anyone else seeing this with the stock keyboard?

Thanks for the suggestion, tried that as well but the words are still not remembered. It's very weird. Tried everything but a factory reset and I'd rather not go that route as this is the only issue I'm having. It's all good, I forgot how much I love SwiftKey and how awesome the predictions are

Got the same problem here on my not rooted EU version (not branded). It's the only thing that I find really annoying on this phone, but I don't want to use another keyboard because of handwriting recognition and the number row. Can't believe that we're the only ones here who recognise this bug...?
Additionally I even don't have this personal dictionaries point in Settings. Sometimes e.g. after a bracket the double-tap for a full stop isn't working.
I'm on the Verizon variant and recently received an update that resolved my issues (as well as changed the keyboard theme to dark). Hopefully future updates will resolve it for others as well

Duh, who would have thought the solution would be so simple. Similar to the suggestion below, I just went to Samsung keyboard settings and used the "reset settings" option (its the last option). Didnt have to restart phone. Then tested various words, and amazingly seems to work fine.
I'm on 4.3 on Note 2.

You actually can add new words. all you have to do is go to SETTING / CONTROLS / LANGUAGE AND INPUT/ hit the gear next to SAMSUNG KEYBOARD/ tap on the words PREDICTIVE TEXT and then tap LEARN FROM MESSAGES. Once this is done, start a text message and then hit the white arrow that comes up. Your phone has now learned the word that you wanted it too.
well till now i have tried nearly everything and with no luck at all.. i just want to know what the hell happened?
what is the cause??? samsung isn't replying to my message
Can someone please help me figure out why and how to get it back? The integrated "flow" or "swype" stock keyboard feature keeps dissapearing. The actual setting itself is gone. Ive factory/hard reset 3 times. It keeps happening after about 24 hours.
Do you use the Optical text reading app from Samsung? That's what made the option disappear for me.

Well, I was. Wouldn't have thought that. Thanks. I recently downloaded the stock firmware and did a fresh install. But I have not downloaded that optical reader app either. Still have flow/Swype as of now.
That's definitely it, the optical reader from the Galaxy apps store is what breaks the flow/swype stock keyboard feature.
