Stock ROM without tethering restriction? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know if there's a stock ROM that has the tethering restrictions lifted?

uhm, i don't think Android Phone had tethering restriction, unlike Iphone Tethering must be enable by Tel Provider.

Sure. Any non US-branded firmware is unrestricted.

I feel like that's false because previously if you tried to tether without the restriction being lifted, you were diverted to your carrier's splash screen wanting you to sign-up for the hotspot option.

Can you clarify what you mean by this? I will be getting the Verizon N3.

It means that only the US Branded versions, the ones that have their own device number, have the tethering restriction.
As it needs to check your dataplan, which only provider-based phones have access to. For some reason your providers have their very own phones, as opposed to simply a different firmware version with a logo on it.

Galaxy Note on Simple Mobile.

I did a search and found nothing on the GT Note using simple Mobile.
Has anyone tried this as yet, and can you tell us what the speeds are like so far.
And what package did you go with.
Looks like they use T-Mobile's network, which means nothing over EDGE speeds.
I'm running one of the AT&T MVNOs on a trial basis and so far I have not been disappointed. I am loathe to give up my T-Mobile plan but unless there's a breakthrough in getting 1700/2100 AWS working on this thing I might have to make the move permanently.

Go phone sim cards are locked to the phone now. Unless you can convince AT&T to give you a new unlocked one it doesn't work.

I know this is old.....but just wanted to update it. I am using AT&T version with Simple Mobile now. The internet speed sucks big time. On speed test, i am consistently getting 25kb/s. With that speed, I am changing to the International Note next week....

You can flash a T-Mobile compatible modem on the AT&T version, if you're not aware.

Is there a solution to STILL using ATT GO Phone plans with our GN7000's?

You need Straight Talk with the AT&T sim.

What about this? As long as you aren't using any device which has ever been AT&T branded in any way shape or form (like an unlocked Note), this should work just fine!

App request: Xfinity TV Go app that works with T-Mobile 4G

Like the title says, trying to use my T-Mobile Note 3 to stream movies via Xfinity app but apparently only Verizon users have this privlage. That's pretty messed up, may drop Comcast if I don't find a solution. Is there some kind of FCC rule against this kind of thing?

I have noticed same thing and after small read, apparently they have struck some kind of exclusive deal and #[email protected]&#[email protected] the rest of us. I find it very unfair. I pay good price for the service and do t see why I have to be excluded from ALL benefits of it.
Would love to see if there is an old app that works before an update or if there is a hack to trick fake wifi over 4g
Ohhhhh man.. same here bro. . I have att now and my note 3 will not stream on 3/4g like it did on verizon. I am using Android tuner to adjust permissions to see if I can get it to work. Will report back

No Internet connection during phone calls

I just got my galaxy s4 and I noticed that I don't have Internet connection during phone calls even after rooting and putting a custom Rom is there a fix to this

This usually happens when you only have 2G signal. Is that your case ?

shouldnt be the case, you can use 4g or wifi when on the phone, try it and see if works over wifi while on a call
Yes if you have no internet while on a call its because you are NOT on 4G, or WiFi.

You have 4G where you live but the phone is not receiving it. Perhaps there's something wrong with it's hardware.

That's because the s3 is able to use 3G and calling at the same time. The S4 doesn't have the hardware for it. Since you say you have 4G in your area, when you make a call are you connected to 4G or 3G?
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
I have 4G when it does this and this was doing that right out the box before I rooted it so thought it was just how the s4 was until it was rooted

Well all I can tell you is it works great. I just tested it, my phone was showing LTE, I placed a call, and when I was on the call I opened up internet and surfed a couple of pages, ran a speed test, and surfed facebook. So it is definitely something you are doing. You mention you are rooted, did you install a custom rom, which one? Your S3 had SVDO chip which allowed simultaneous data(3g) and voice. Sprint or Samsung got cheap and didn't include SVDO with the S4 because they hoped LTE would be more widespread by the time the phone was sold.
I'm using Sacs custom rom 4.3

Double-check in your settings what mobile networks the phone can use. Specifically, make sure it's showing both CDMA AND LTE, and not just CDMA. For some reason, some ROMs default to just CDMA.
I did switch it it's still the same i don't know what it could be never had this problem before

Well, if that's the case then your phone is broken and you should take it to Sprint and have them replace it. Your phone should definitely be able to access data when on a phone call if you are on LTE or WiFi.

If you have the new tri-band model: SPH-L720T
Then you can not use LTE while on a call. I just found this out myself yesterday. I am a bit disappointed. on my old GS4 I could and this version I can not. I did use it maybe 2 or 3 times over the past year. Oh well.

I don't know. The GS4 is still a flagship for Sprint. We sell more GS4 and Note3s than any other device at our stores.

Will the Moto X allow unlimited native tethering out of the box?

I have a few buddies who have the One Plus One and claim to have unlimited native tether without tripping any kind of notice to their mobile provider.
Will the Moto X Pure Edition have the ability to do this? Or will it have to be rooted for this to happen? I currently use the Wifi Tether Router app on a Rooted S6 Edge and it works great.
If you're buying a SIM free device, why would Moto tell anyone what you're up to?

If they look close enough they can tell. Some have basic flags set up to alert them but they are easy to bypass.

I was reading through the 2014 Moto X threads where people were discussing how to edit their build.prop scripts so that native tethering would not be detected.
I just met up with my buddy today who has a One Plus One and he showed me his native tethering app and it worked great...

CDMA doesn't even exist outside of the US, so I never give it any thought whatsoever. I said SIM free because that's how the device is being sold, without contract.
