So I have a rooted s4 running PAC-man rom on ktoonz kernel but before that I was on infamous alpha and using bioshock 2.0 kernel. Just a couple days ago I've noticed my battery has been really slow to charge. This morning I noticed it was actually losing battery life while on the charger. I tried calibrating it and draining dead then letting it sit.... Well it's been turn off on the charger for over an hour. When I turned it on it was only at 18%. During this time of my typing this.... It's dropped to 17 while on the charger. How can I tell if it's the battery or the charger. I only have one of each so I can't use different one. I've included some screens of my battery. i also noticed when i plugged in my phone to the computer the computer gave me a this would run better using a 2.0 usb.....thats never happened to me before

Try using a different charger first. If that doesnt help try a different rom . also try charging with wifi and screen off
I've done all of them and so far the same result... But i had a buddy of mine bring over his s4 charger and it charged fine..... When i use his die hard calibration says AC plug in. With my charger it says USB..... I'm not really sure how to fix it other than buying a whole new charger

Sounds like there is a cracking in the solder of the data pins inside the charging block. They are shorted together to tell the phone that it is plugged into a regular outlet. What seems to be happening is that there is a faulty connection with them making the phone think it is on USB and making it only pull 500mah.

As a short term fix till I get a new one can I use fast charge with my kernel to trick it into thinking it's not broken?

Had my Nexus 7 about a week now, had some system restarts at random times (when not even using the device) which is a bit of a concern, but read it could be the 4.2 update. But as hasn't happened while using so far it's not annoyed me. However charging is becoming a bit annoying. It's taking forever!
I have a battery widget installed and its stats tell the story. Battery is usually fully charge in: 6 hours 59 minutes.
It's plugged into the wall, with the cable and charger it came with, tried using an Apple charger block to see if it was that, no luck. Not tried another Micro USB cable yet, but may do if anyone thinks it could be that?
Also according to the stats it charges 1% every 7 minutes and I put it on charge at 9:45am this morning at 35% and it currently on 66% and it is now 2:55pm. It also says it will finish charging at 7:00pm tonight.
The app/widget is Battery Widget? Reborn! Does this have anything to do with the slow charging?
But this is a bit of a joke to be honest. Is my device faulty?
Mine charged from 1% to full in 2h10m today. Stock charger.

You are using the original 2A charger right? Have you tried with an other USB cable on it (might be broken?)
Also try to monitor your charging without the app, just write down what time you plugged it in at what percent and check it that way. (the app might show wrong readings).
If you have an other 2A charger you can borrow, you can try to eliminate that to. Not sure how long it takes via a regular USB port on the PC.
If it keeps charging that slow, your battery might be defect..
Good luck anyway
I am not sure if anyone else is experiencing this but I am seeing that i'll charge my phone for somewhere between 5-8 hours using the original wall charger and cable but it will not fully charge. It gets to about 70-80%. Is this happening to anyone else?
Any other details? Rooted? ROM?
My phone fully charges from 10% to 100% in about 2 hours or less
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
5-8 hours is definitely not normal. It fully charges from 0 to 100% in 3h 45min Max and even that is a little bit of a stretch. For me its more like 3hours.

Check your chaging status. If it says USB, thats your problem. Without further knowledge of your setup, I cannot advise you any further
Just happened to me, plugged into original charger before going to sleep, woke up and it shows only 80%. Plugged into Samsung charger, now up to 90% in 20 minutes.

Stock everything. It's happened about 4 nights now.
I find that sometimes my stock charger detects as USB instead of AC. You can see if it is charging that way in the battery details in the settings. When it is stuck on USB it is way slower.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Yeah and if you want it to charge a little bit more faster you turn off the device
Check about phone, make sure it says Charging (AC) and not Charging (USB). If it's USB then thats the reason why, use another charger.
My stock charger that came with N4 went to USB but then for some reason, after I replugged it, it went to AC and has been AC ever since.

I was having a problem where mine, with the charger that came with it would charge very slowly, once overnight only got to 80% in ~8 he's i watched it and sometimes would not even show charging on the lock screen. I switched to my HTC one s charger and it is charging with great speed. Issue with these chargers?

did your HTC One S have an adaptor like the Nexus 4 or any other phone now a days... I think thats the probllem. having an adaptor from USB to AC PLUG messes with these phones. Like I said before, above post.. buy an LG AC Wall Charger.. works great.

Sorry to jump on a thread and go completely off topic but love the screen name
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Wow, glad I found this thread. I was wondering what the cause of this was, as well. I've been using my GNex charger since it switched over.
I'm unsure what's wrong!!!
My phone has been fine, until it died today. I practice a 1 charge a day rule and I let my battery drain completely before I even think about putting it back on the charger.
Today, my phone died a littler earlier than expected, but that's okay because I was using my iPhone for most of the day. I got home at about 11PM and put my phone on the charger at 11:15PM. Here it is, 2:25AM and my phone only has 30% charge.
I've never noticed it charging this slowly before because I typically put it on the charger before I go to sleep and take it off when I wake up. This doesn't seem normal from ANY phone that I've ever used or troubleshooted in my life.
Why so slow? Is everyone's phone just as slow or should I be concerned?
Edit: I am using the charger that came with my phone in the same wall outlet that I've used since I got the phone. Nothing else is plugged into that outlet, either.
It would seem sensible to try a different charger and power outlet.

Your should be at 100% in that 3 hours. Try using a tablet wall charger.
With my phone, sometimes it charges in a flash, and sometimes it's charging for hours, idk why they do this.

I don't have another charger. All I own is Apple products, unfortunately.
I've done other other outlets throughout the house before posting, but I wouldn't see why the one I'm using is compromised in the slightest. It's charged the phone fine since I've gotten it.

The only Tablet I have is my iPad. I was thinking about just using the A/C adapter, but I was worried that that might mess something up with my luck. LOL.
You can't use the iPhone\iPad chargers as most of them don't comply with the USB charging standard (It will only charge at 500ma, the limit of USB charging).
You said it died quicker than usual as well? Sure nothing is running that drains the battery? Check the battery usage in settings after leaving it unplugged a while and see if you see anything that's using a ridiculous amount of battery.
I've had the same problem. Sometimes I plug mine into a wall charger and it reads Charging (USB) which may be your problem. Other times it reads Charging (AC).

It's been off of the charger for about an an hour and a half and nothing out of the norm is draining the battery. Screen on time is at 40%, but that's because I was reading all of my sports news and stuff from my device.
Interesting thing to note: I'm at 79% on my Nexus 4 after about an hour and a half unplugged and doing regular browsing. I'm at 98% on my 4s with doing just about the same things as I've done on my Nexus 4, and even watching a YouTube video on my 4s. I've also had a great deal of voice calls and texts this morning to my iPhone. They were neck and neck when I first got my N4 on December 10th. Now, it's dying faster. The only difference is that I've installed Spotify on my Nexus 4 since then... Which isn't running.

It was reading USB last night! I thought that was normal, lmao... Thinking it meant "there is a USB cable charging it and not wireless charging."
Hm... The plot thickens, I guess.
Yeah it sometimes reads USB but if you unplug then plug it back in, it will change to AC. Not sure how to fix it but that's your problem right there.
Question: are you stock, rooted stock, or different ROM?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Since the update, anytime I want to charge my phone in my truck, I have to reboot it while it's plugged up for it to charge. I only have to do this on the stock rom. It's been this way odex/deodex, multiple flashes.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using XDA Premium HD app
Mine started doing the same thing shortly after updating and then resetting...mine would only flash the battery icon and show it was discharging from the battery in settings and still the same even rebooting while plugged in my truck...no charging. I have a different charger and swapped them- it works fine. I was just figuring it was my charger, but makes me wonder now...
I'll have to try old the charger on my wife's s4 and see if it does the same.
UPDATE: Nope. Not the phone itself or software causing issue, for me anyway. It was a faulty charger.
I plugged in a 1 amp USB 2.0 charger before going to bed last night when the phone had about 30% of battery life. I've used this charger on my galaxy before and it charged to 100% without any hickups but the phone died on me tonight. What could have happened?

Oh I don't know....Maybe the fact you are using the wrong charger? Lol no but seriously.
The S5 has a 2800mAh battery that is configured to charge off a 2.0A brick. Using anything but can result in this type of behavior.
First off you totally cut charging time in half but using a 1.0A charger. Second, there could of been apps using battery all night. I'd stick to the charger the phone came with.
*EDIT* Other then that all I can think of is it fell out of the phone/wall overnight. Unless you got kids. I've woken up plenty of times to see my kids trying to guess my unlock code.

Thanks for your input but using a 1 amp charger should be more than enough to charge the phone regardless whatever background app is running. It may charge slower but there's a serious problem if the phone is discharging faster than that 1 amp charger could handle. I've used this charger for two weeks already and it worked fine until last night.

Maybe the wire isn't working right. Maybe the wire just gave out. It's happened to me before. I woke up with my S4 one day not charged because the wire that came with the phone decided not to work anymore.

thanks! it was actually exactly what happened. I guess the wire is frayed on the inside because it wouldn't work at some angles.
