Please post your results here. I know that a lot of us were only able to preorder white. Were you able to swap and keep your unlimited?
Working at a Verizon corporate store, I can tell you that just swapping a phone doesn't normally trigger a grandfathered feature such as unlimited data to go away.
Verizon would normally charge a $35 restocking fee just to switch colors tho
Thanks for the info

I'm getting ready to try, unless I chicken out!

^Please let us know how it goes! Good luck!
I went to the store and spoke to the manager. He confirmed that I could exchange my white N3 for a black one without it impacting my data plan (would also have to pay the $35 restocking fee) . Ultimately, I decided to hold off for a few days to see if how I like the N3 (it may be too big) and having a white phone. Regardless of whether it's opened or not, the restocking fee still applies so I might as well test drive it.
Also, given that some people are having problems with keeping their unlimited data after activating, I figured that I might as well activate the white one and (hopefully) lock in my unlimited data before possibly exchanging it. I don't want VZW finding a loophole of sorts based on me changing phones versus the one I ordered!
Lastly, I also opted to hold off on exchanging because you can only exchange one time. If I don't like the N3, the manager said that I can exchange for another phone without it impacting my contract. If I exchanged now because of the color of the N3, then I couldn't exchange again if I didn't like the N3.
Hope this helps!

^ That's some great info, thanks! I handled the white for the first time today at a VZW store. I must say, I liked the look much more than I expected. However, I still think that I like the black a little better. And if I'm going to have this phone until my next upgrade rolls around then I should get the one that I want. At least now, having held the white, if VZW gives me any crap as far as keeping unlimited, I know I'll be happy either way.

Good luck with this. I took my fedex boxed, unopened white N3 to a store with black in stock. The guy there was in the back for quite awhile, then went to do the exchange - he said the only way he could do it was returning the one I just received and doing a new transaction on the black phone - and he had no option to retain the unlimited data as he'd need to choose plans again at that point. He told me to call customer service.
I spent 30 minutes on with a customer service rep on #611. They said there is no way to do the exchange without returning the white phone and doing a new purchase on the black phone, which forces them to pick a data plan, and there is no option to pick unlimited.
I may try at yet another store tonight. But so far, 2 hours, 1 store, 1 customer service rep (who talked to her manager), no luck.
I put it on craigslist in the meantime for $730, since with tax it'd be $770+. I'll eat the $40 to switch to black if there are any takers.
Update - I accidentally left my receipt at the store after my first try. I went back and the manager had my receipt - I told him what I was trying to do, he was able to put through the exchange and maintain the unlimited data. The only downside was I had to pay the $35 restocking fee. He had to activate the original white one first, then use some exchange deal to swap to the black one.
I went to my verizon store today...it wasnt to switch colors, but to switch phones alltogether.
I ordered a g2 (which i really do like) went in today to switch, called customer service prior just to make sure, they said its ok. Came in, talked to the same girl that processed my g2 order she said everything is ok. Then when she went to exchange everything, apparently she was getting a prompt that would kick me off my unlimited and into a 2gb plan. She asked her manager and he ran it by another manager and they said "NO" to keeping my unlimited because "i found a loophole so i should be stuck with my g2" I said ok and i left.
About 20 minutes later while i was with my wife and son shopping at target i call customer service and informed her of what happened. she told me that it doesnt make any sense why it would do that "because i upgraded during the glitch, i should be able to exchange with no worries" she then proceeded to run the exchange order and KEPT MY UNLIMITED so i have 2 white GN3 coming on monday with a couple cases and screen protectors. I will then proceed to send back our g2's.
On a side note, i tried the verizon30 and it wouldnt work for the rep, so she said that she will make a note on the account to credit it and make sure i keep my unlimited

Glad things worked out for you. I had trouble activating and when I finally did, I was knocked down to 2gb. I called customer care and they instantly restored my unlimited.
Please let me know how you like the N3 compared to the G2. Im actually thinking about exchanging for the G2. I really like the N3, but having trouble getting adjusted to the size.

thanks, im worried about losing my unlimited when i do activate...i might just swap sim cards from the g2 and put it on the note 3.
but i will definitely let u know. The g2 is a bad a$$ phone if you ask me, i think its better than the note 3 in a lot of cases, i just want a bigger screen and better resale value in the future.

I have ALWAYS had a black/titanium grey phone. But after seeing the Note 2 in white, I was mad at myself for not getting white.
To keep things short, IMO, the white phone with a black case is super sexy. Just looks classy. Can keep the majority of the look black, but with the white accenting the front and black around the rest of the phone, it is a true beauty.
No regrets in going white this time around.
I received my white phone yesterday from FedEx that I pre ordered with the glitch. Last night I decided to go ahead and activate it with my GNex sim. I played with it for a couple of hours and fell in love but I still wanted to get the black. This morning I went to VZW corporate store and told the rep that I wanted to pay the $35 fee and switch to black. I explained that I wanted to keep unlimited and he seemed aware of the glitch and whatnot. 10 minutes later, I walked out with my phone! Everything was sooo easy! Any ways, I just wanted to share and I hope this helps someone in the same boat.

Hey all,
I just have a question for the people knowledgeable with the inner-workings of account structure with Sprint.
I need to add an additional line to my current plan and was going to pick up an EVO for myself and give my current Hero to my brother (whom I'm opening the additional line for). I was just on Sprints website, doing all the work, and toward the end, it said that all charges will be placed on my regular monthly bill. Seems logical, sure.
My question is, is this a policy explicitly carried out online, or would I be able to walk into a Best Buy or Sprint store today and have the same thing occur? If that is the case, I'll go set this all up today via a store front if I'd be able to apply all charges to my bill.
Thanks for any input
Sometimes sure. But, other times you may not get the same deal in the store than you would online.
Couple points for your sake:
1. New phone from Sprint, needs to stay on the line it was purchased on, for 30 days minimum to get the $100 rebate.
2. You can pay $199 oop at Best Buy/The Shack and switch it after the transaction is complete.
3. Not sure how the $10 EVO charge is applied. Would it be to the account or the number?
Just some thoughts. Have fun with the EVO!
Well thank you all for taking the time to lend advice. I ended up going to Best Buy to talk to someone about what I need to do.
First off, the guy said they didn't have anymore EVOs, nor did any retailer in the vicinity. Then he told me that I would have to upgrade to a family plan to add this other line for my brother. I'd be going from $69.99 to $129.99 give or take $20. I totally forgot to think about that aspect. I called my brother to tell him no dice unless he's willing to fork over at least something to help offset the additional cost -- he said thanks, but no thanks.
So, I get home and get curious -- log back onto Sprint.com to see how much it would be for me to just buy the phone outright. I went ahead and just put it on my tab. I'm a nut for gadgets, and have been more than financially frugal for well over a year, so I figured I'd buy myself something for once, lol.
Anyhow, thanks again!

I asked the same question to sprint and basically was told the same. Except the $10 goes with the phone and not the line of service. So if you buy from the shack or BB Mobile you can change the phone to a different line and the $10 will follow the phone. However like stated before if you wait for the rebate then you will have to wait for 30 days to switch the phone to a different line.
So my wife has the transform and she hates it. I was thinking about getting her the Epic but neither of us are due for upgrades so I would have to pay retail.
I have an idea though.. Wondering if any 'insiders' know if this might work...
we have plenty of 'approval' for extra lines on our account.. we have an available line on the account as well.. I was thinking about getting an Epic for $--- price, on a new line (on our acct.) w/ new 2 yr contract.. then swap her device to the new line and the Epic to her line (to keep the phone numbers in order)... then after a couple days, I was thinking about cancelling the new line and paying the ETF.. The way I see the math, ETF + promo rate is less than full retail.
Just brainstorming a way to keep 'momma' happy..
Any other ideas ?? will this work ?? My wife thinks we might need to keep the phone/line active for 30 or 45 days or they'll charge us full retail.
Just curious..
For the amount of work that would take, the fraud potential and the cost you would just be better off keeping an eye on craigslist. I often see them going for $250 or less. Besides if you really want to go that route wait for the evo 3d or if you want something available now go for the nexus s 4g (unless having a hardware keyboard is necessary).

From what I've seen, you would have to keep the second line for 30 days, and at least until after the rebate clears. If you really want to avoid the ETF, you can force roaming 24/7, and let Sprint cancel that line.
**Disclaimer**
I have no idea if this would work or not. It would be best to get a Sprint employee to confirm this.

Not sure what the stores are like in your area, but our Sprint stores here are all franchise. They recently started selling Refurb Evos and Epics for $120 straight up, no contract. Might be something to consider if it's an option for you.
The phones are worth what they cost. I wouldn't go out of my way trying to defraud the company you are relying on for phone service just to save a few dollars.
That being said, I noticed the contract price went down $100 since a week or two ago when I was on sprints site.... used to be 249/199 Epic/Evo, now it's 199/149 Evo/Epic... interesting.
You can buy preowned Epics from BestBuy free and clear for like 275 or so last I heard. That and check Craigslist, it isn't uncommon to find them for 100-200 there as well... just be sure to transfer the phone before you leave the sellers house to make sure it's legit.
Personally I would just buy a new one. They are around $300 +/- on ebay all the time. Like I said before, they are worth every penny anyway.
thanks for the quick replies
Definitely some good info here.. gonna go check out craigslist for a deal..
I went into our local sprint store (not a corp store) and wanted to play w/ the Nexus S.. the employee said "I have them but I can't turn it on because it will auto activate".. I said no it won't.. it will try to do hands free activation, fail, then let you play from home screen (I think)..he wouldn't let me play with it..
I know we have a corp store (repair center too) that has devices turned on and connected via wifi that can be played with.. might have to stop by there for a little tinkering action.
either way, thanks for all the suggestions.. I've got some work to do.

You may have already done this, but my wife has the transform as well and it was a piece of **** lol I decided to try rooting and installing a custom kernel on it and it is a completely different phone, still not like a epic obviously but a much better phone once I unlocked it. http://androidforums.com/transform-all-things-root/317172-how-why-root-newbies.html I followed this guide for the Transform to the letter and my wife is much happier now that she can actually play angrybirds and use it as a phone lol

I have ubuntdroid beta installed on her phone (from sdx-developers).. clockwork mod (not sure which version).. I have her system partition formatted as EXT4, data as RFS (for stability, no corrupt data) and cache as EXT2 for speed/stability ... it's not too bad but I still manage to break it LOL...
the transform uses swupdate utility like the moment did. I'm very familiar w/ the moment so messing with the transform was easy.
I'm not positive if non corporate account people can do this, but with our corp accound, we can put it on hold for around $8 per month. You might look into getting a new line and put the current on hold then put transform on craigs list fr 75 bucks or so. Maybe even hang around the sprint store and try to sell it out of contract to someone. We did that with some blackberrys and it went well. Our instore rep helped us out and sold a couple to some of her good customers that didn't want to pay full price for a phone when they dropped it in the pool or something like that. Lots of people don't get tep

thanks again for the tips.
Well, here is my dilemma:
My wife signed me up for Verizon, and got me the Samsung Continuum for free from them. Had I known about this, I would of definitely done more research, and got at least a phone that's not EOL. Either way, I'm sorta happy with the phone after I rooted it and it's now using Froyo.
This is all hypothetically speaking, but since I'm still in the 14 days, could I order a free phone from wirefly(probably Incredible 2 or X2) get that activated as a 2nd line, and drop my original line, and have it back as a single line with no ETF within the 14 days? I would be basically just upgraded to the free X2 or I2 and dropping this dead device I have now? Had I known all of this in advance, I would of just of went through wirefly start with, but I didn't know it was even happening until I got home from work and was handed it as a anniversary gift.
Or are there any other clever ways to get around this. Could I just drop the service I have now altogether, and then sign up again through wirefly or walmart and get the free Incredible 2?
Any help on this would be appreciated, thanks.
yes you can take it back before the 14 days are up and yull just have to pay a 34$ restocking fee then u can get whatever phone u want however you only get 2 returns in those 14 days. and i believe how the data usage goes u pay by how many nights u used it or atleast thats how it was when i returned that mifi thing.
I understand I can exchange my phone, but it was ordered through Verizon Wireless online, and if I wanted to exchange it, it would cost me $200 to upgrade to the Incredible 2. Is there a way I can return it, while keeping the service active, and order a free Incredible 2 through wirefly or walmart, and it be my main line.
Yes I was actually talking to them about doing that for me bassicly u diactivate it at the verizon store and go get whatever phone u whant and have that store activate it the only problem is the rep at the vw store looses the cometition and you won't be able to keep your number. Just talk to the sales rep at vw it maybe a hit or miss getting them to do that because of the whole commission thing.
Sent from my de binged samsung continuum
Woah, the problem is the contract I think: you can put any device you want on your existing Verizon acct, but IIRC Wirefly requires a NEW account for their free phones.
Try walmart or bestbuy
And the contract isn't a problem because as long as your in the 14 day grace period your fine.

Hello everyone,
After the worst customer experience EVER with T-mobile...I am moving on from my beloved Vibrant. Here is what happened... I paid retail for my phone using the "Equipment Instalment Plan" and entered into the non-contract plans. At that time I was told that once you enter these type of plans you cannot go back to contract plans or get phones at the discounted price unless I start over with a whole new account only to find out that in Oct 2011 I was placed onto a contracted plan which I never authorized. In most cases it wouldn't have been a big deal, but was because my some dropped my phone on my cement driveway and cracked the screen, so after finding out that it would cost $130 for the insurance replacement (I mean really, after paying all the insurance it still costs that MUCH!!! Insurance on other carriers replaces phones for way less and even free on Verizon) and just replacing the screen isn't that much different.
Anyway, I was told I could not upgrade unless I paid retail. But, T-mobile changed the way that works. When I first started the "EIP" plan, you would pay the full retail value of a phone in payments split up over 21 months which would be added to your monthly phone bill and all you would pay upfront was the first monthly instalment, but now they make you pay 1/3 of the retail value of the phone upfront and the rest over 21 months. Which to me defeats the purpose because that is basically what you pay for a phone on a 2 year contract and then of course you don't have to pay any more toward the phone after that.
So now we go back to the problem of being on the contract I never agreed to. The rep said they knew that you couldn't get back onto a contracted plan after going to EIP plans, but somehow I was able to and they couldn't reverse it. The rep said I could file a dispute by email because no one could take care of it over the phone. So, I filed my dispute and never heard back. I was really busy with work and family and basically put this whole issue on the back burner for a few months but checked back with T-mobile at the beginning of June and was told they never got my dispute. I saved my email I sent and informed them that I have confirmation they received it...still, was told I had to filed my complaint all over again. So I did and had to wait 10 days for a response which OF COURSE was declined.
I called T-mobile back (I should add that this whole time I have been very friendly with everyone I spoke to and never once got loud or disrespectful) and explained everything going on and explained that my only intention was one of two things, either pay retail on the EIP plan like I originally should have....just that it should be done in the same manner as my vibrant which was my payment upfront be only the first of 21months, or give me the upgrade price since I was put on a contract without my consent and never used an upgrade on my account. Keep in mind that at this point it has been over two years since I got my Vibrant. I was told no and no. My only option was to pay 1/3 retail and the rest over 21 months or buy a phone somewhere else.
My intention was never to leave....in fact, I was only promising that would be there for another two years, T-mobile would not be losing out on anything except keeping a customer longer and I have been with them for 6 years already. But at this point I told them either give me an upgrade or I will take my business elsewhere. The rep said they didn't want to lose my business and that they would either put me on my previous non-contract plan or they would give me the upgrade price on a new phone. So I put aside the fact that it took over 6 months for them to give in, I agree to just go with the upgrade price and stay on contract. I asked the rep if I could go to a store to complete my purchase and they said yes. So I go to the store and the rep at the store said I was misinformed on the phone and could not get the upgrade price. My only option is to pay retail.
Now I'm back to my original spot...I can only pay retail, like I did with my vibrant and be on a contract I didn't agree to and obviously didn't want in the first place, the rep I spoke to the first time couldn't figure out how I got onto contract, but couldn't reverse it and even agreed that my situation didn't make sense. I know I could get a phone on craigslist or something, but I wanted something new and an upgrade, but now it's all about the principle of the business ethics T-mobile is using with me. So as a last resort, I go to the forums on T-mobile website and post my problem there. I get several responses saying I should contact a forum this specific forum moderator (name withheld, I don't want to get into trouble) because she is known for fixing issues like mine. So I did...AND NO RESPONSE, I sent another private message and again no response and this went on for 2 weeks.
So I hit my last straw...I'm moving on. My wife and I each are getting SGS II's free and will be on a cheaper plan then we had with T-mobile by going with Sprint. I have never used Sprint, it could turn out that I don't like their service areas compared to T-mobile in my area or their network seems sluggish but either way, T-mobile again lost another long time customer.
If you actually read through all that then thank you for listening to my complaint. I didn't even list every detail about the situation and some of the events just make it even more ridiculous.
I loved the phone, but that is only because of the developers on this site. I mean that literally. So special thanks to all the devs out there...they certainly deserve every thanks they get and then some.

Wow.. seems like everything really went against you throughout the process. Instead, I wouldnt even waste time and would have began by threatening to cancel my (nonexistant) contract through the cancellation department since they have more power than your average rep.
But what is done is done, and I would do the same if I encountered that.
You might not like sprint and their mess going on over there with slow network and sketchy plan with wimax and lte. In other words, you might be miserable with their speeds, regardless of unlimited plans. Good luck. I'm looking to upgrade this vibrant to the s3 soon enough too. Served me well and still holds up against most low and mid range phones, but my GPS is just..

I know I may not care for the speeds and all, but 90% of the time I am connected to wifi anyway so it really isn't that big of a deal and there are a few people I know around here on sprint that get good data speeds. I am in MN, so it's not like the network would get as overloaded as if I were in LA or NY. Plus I got the phone for free, and it's a good phone...but only time will tell. I will miss the trusty Vib, but I am going to use it as a music player I think...cracked screen shouldn't matter to much using it for that.
What's happened to T-Mobile's customer Service?
One of the thing that used to separate T-Mobile from other carriers was their customer service. Their one year wooing by AT&T seems to have completely screwed this once great attribute. I too am seriously dumping T-Mobile and switching to Sprint. I have a friend with 3 lines. He (and I) always buy our phones retail/Craigslist and go with No Contract plans. At the time he was using the pre-paid plan while I was on the Even More Plus plan. Both no contract plans. After getting the Galaxy Nexus, he decided to switch over to the 5GB EMP plan, but now they don't have that plan anymore. In fact, they have no non-contract plans at all anymore. I'm pretty sure, T-Mobile's going to lose 3 more customers in a couple of months. Oh well.

Look at their Monthly 4G plans. They are very in-expensive and contract free. (You can just buy a SIM and pop it into any unlocked/t-mo phone)
Went inside best buy mobile today to pick up my pre ordered note 4, and they told me that i had to switch my plan in order to walk out with the phone! The new plan they were trying to get me on would make me pay 800$ for my note and be "off contract". In order to switch to that plan id have to cancel all 5 of my lines, with the ETF fees up in the thousands of dollars. I told him no way and that id call sprint, and ge told me that even if I call i'd still have no choice. Anyone else encounter something similar?

I had something similar happen to me today at the Sprint Store. The clerk insisted that I couldn't keep my plan. I told him to get bent. After a heated exchange, I turned on the phone, had the phone go through the automated activation process and viola, I was activated on my existing plan. He sheepishly mumbled something under his breath and I walked out with my phone.
I'm guessing they only make the sweet commission when they sign you up for a new plan.
I had trouble with keeping my plan at Best Buy as well but the Best Buy Mobile guy called Sprint. I didn't even have to push. He did that on his own. The woman at Sprint wanted to speak to me to get permission to speak with the clerk about my account. They were able to fix it so that I was able to keep my plan. It took a few minutes but didn't seem to be a problem. I have the old Everything Data 450 plan which I've had for a couple of years now. Got it with my Galaxy S3.
When I looked it up on Sprint's website a few days ago, it just said that you had to have an Everything Data plan (or some other type of plan but I can't remember the name) and it didn't specify that you had to have a higher plan. I'm glad I got to keep my plan. It's already more than I need. The plan he was looking to switch me to would've been $90 before taxes. Right now I pay $80.

Been There Done That
I bought the Note 4 for my fiance` yesterday. We had been shopping around for phones for a while. Many of the sales rep's said the same thing, in that we had to switch plans and we could not buy the phone out right but instead had to make a $30/month payment for 24 months. This was not going to happen. I mean, what about my rebates and the 2 year contract discounts. Finally I called up the HQ corporate store in Reston VA to get the skinny on the situation. They instructed me to go to any corporate store and that they could get me the phone with my discounts and continue to use the plan I have on my phone, the S4. Long story short YES you can keep your old plan, YES you can buy the phone outright and not pay nearly $800 for the device! Now you know and anyone who says otherwise should win the employee of the month award.
PS The employees at sprint whom I have worked with at both HQ and other corporate locations are extremely knowledgeable and go out of there way to make sure you are happy with their service. One employee sat and entertained my son while the other explained how to best utilize the phones features while yet another went of to find an assortment of accessories. I felt like I was a celebrity. And they did this for every customer. It doesn't get much better than that.
Pre-order thru BB picked up yesterday no issues upgraded my line. Traded a old evo 4g got 200$ paid 123$ total for note 4. Can't beat that deal never tried or force me to change plan family 1500 here unlimited data

When I went to pre-order at BB, that's what I was told as well.. They are saying that Sprint is forcing this issue.. I pre-ordered anyway, only because I want the 200 rebate on the old phone. I figured I'd argue the point when I pick it up.
Otherwise, I would have had my phone in hand already from Sprint instead of waiting on BB.
I picked up the note4 from the sprint store yesterday and ended up going with the new plan. They spelled out the two programs and said either are available with pros and cons of both and I ended up going with the "new" plan. Did I make a mistake ? Its still unlimited data and seemed to be mostly the same ?
So now you are paying 720 for the phone... Good deal?

Seems wrong, here is mine
Monthly Charges, See below
Sprint Keep Existing Plan
With 2-year contract extension
Maybe you have 1 line and thats how? In mine case I got 4 lines and they cannot do anything to my plan because 3 lines have no change
I had the same issue in a sprint retail store. Im going to call tomarrow to try and get the plan back because i did not take that 720 dollar plan.

the two new plans we offered now says in small writing, your plan can be throttled while watching a movie to 1 megabyte per second and people with other plans have priority over data than you do.
I tried to add a second line to my account which I have the 450 data unlimited plan and they said that they had to go into a new plan you have two phones I stated about the new rules of being throttled me act like you didn't know anything about it and would not look it up.
I don't watch alot of video over cell. So I'm fine with switching over. I can see for people who are using 10+ gigs a month that being a problem.
It's not just video. You get on the web at peak times, guess who gets bumped first. The peeps with the new plans. It might not matter to some. I live out in the boonies and have only one tower to connect to and sucks during peak. But Sprints my only choice, unless back to satillite.........NOT
I ended up getting my way by calling sprint in the best buy store to keep my existing plan, but he told me sprint was going to make me switch one way or another sooner than later.
Again that's not a bad thing. I don't get kicked off data. I just don't get priority data service. That's no different then other unlimited plans.
My data usage is somewhere between 1-2 gigs a month. I don't see it being that big of a deal. If its not your only source of net.
Plan Change
I was told by Sprint rep that I would have to change plans if I upgraded through them. One Sprint rep told me other retailers such as BB could do the upgrade without changing plans. Both BB stores I talked to confirmed this. I had no problem when getting mine.
I pre-ordered two at BB and picked them up Friday. The guy during pre-order didn't have a problem with me keeping my plan and neither did the guy I picked them up from. Seems like it is hit or miss on knowledgeable versus not knowledgeable employees in both sprint and BB. It also sounds like someone us perpetuating something false to lots of people making it worse.

I had the same issue, but at a Sprint corporate store! They kept telling me that we would have to call Sprint customer care and get their permission for us to keep our current plan (the grandfathered in 1500 Everything data plan). We called customer care from home, and they said they will put something on our account that says we wouldn't have to change our plan. When I went back to pre-order it, they told us we would have to call customer care in store in order to get this change approved. After a bunch of arguing everything was handled and I pre-ordered the phone (about 2 weeks ago). Friday comes, and that store never got the phone in. I was going out of town so I was a bit upset that I wasn't going to have my new phone. Saturday I went to a Sprint store where I was at for the weekend and they had Note 4's in-stock. While purchasing we weren't told we had to change our plan at all, and it was a very smooth process. The $80 that Samsung would send me 1-2 months from now for pre-ordering the phone was irrelevant at this point.
TLDR- One store said we had to change our plan and would not budge, Other store didn't even bring up changing our plan.
