To make things easier on me and the users alike. I have created this common thread for discussion across all 5 carrier versions of the the GS4 that I support. All aspects of the kernel are the same except the carrier related bits so discussion will be identical. Saves me answering the same question 5 times. There will still be the carrier specific threads in the development section for releases. But keep the discussion in here to make things more efficient

Requirements
* Rooted (obviously)
* I use CyanogenMod as my daily, so i don't test the TW version much..it should be fine though.

3: Clear cache and dalvik cache
4: Flash zip
5: Reboot
6: If desired edit the init script at /system/etc/chronic-config.sh to suit your needs
7: Profit

GPU OC to 627 Mhtz (504Mhtz default - configurable though chronic-config.sh init script)
CPU OC to 2322 Mhtz (1890 Mhtz default)
CPU L2 cache overclocked to 1.35 Ghtz
Raised the low/med/high values for GPU governor one step each
Added many I/O Schedulers
Some scheduler performance tweaks
Added CPU Governors intelidemand, wheatley, lagfree, linoheart, smartassH3, badass and smartmax (Default gov = intellidemand)
Dynamic Fsync
CIFS support
exFAT support
Frandom support
User adjustable CPU voltage
Optimized and compiled with with the "Optimize a lot, or -o3 option)
USB fast charge (disabled by default - configurable though chronic-config.sh init script
Patched to Linux 3.4+
* Please keep all comments in this Discussion Thread. Any comments not in that thread will be ignored. Feel free to use the DevDB Bug reporting option as you see fit. This is critical in keeping the same question from being asked times in 5 different threads all with the same answer. It was really slowing down development.
* ]If you have problems with frequencies sticking use "No frills CPU Control" and go to Settings and prevent other apps from changing CPU settings
* Although this kernel has now reached "stable" status. bugs still could pop up. please if you find a reproducible bug and decide to post please try and provide a last_kmesg or logcat.
* Versions go as follows: AOSP-JB4.3 = CM-10.2 etc, AOSP-JB4.2 = CM-10.1 etc, TW-JB4.2 = Android 4.2 TW based ROMs, TW-JB4.3: Android 4.3/Google Edition based ROMs

* ktoonsez for his fix for the cpufreqs not sticking and GPU OC as well as answering my questions all the time
* A lot of this was taken/based off of flar2's Kernel for the HTC One, so thanks for the source!
* Also grabbed some things from Faux123's kernel
* All the people who have helped me learn more and more over the past 4 months (arco/dastin1018/android1234567) you guys are the best!
I really didn't want to do this but people keep asking so here is a donation link if you want to buy me a coffee or pack of smokes (I go through a lot sitting on the PC messing around lol) go ahead. But not required or expected by any means

Only you can determine what kind of battery life you will get. It depends on the rom you use, governor, an how you use the device.
The set up that gives me great battery life might be awful for you. You have to try different ROMs and kernel combos yourself to see what fits your needs.
That said, chronic has the capability of providing very long battery life

Kernel with OTG for CM 10.1.3 Stable
Hi Guys,
I'm a little bit new in udnerstanding how a kernel can affect the overall performance and capability of a mobile phone. I've been reading through different websites and threads about the CM 10.1.3 for i9505 international and its OTG capability. I really want to use CM but the OTG is not working for me. So will ChronicKernel help me with my dilemma?

[KERNEL][XWJW1][2/1/11] Corn Kernel I9000-C v1.05 w/Audience support!

New! Version 1.05 now includes code and settings from the UCKK4 source release. In theory, it should provide better battery life.
==========
For those who prefer an I9000 ROM but have a taste for Corn, here is the answer...
XWJW1 reoriented I9000 kernel with custom CwM 5, init.d, root, custom boot animation support, fully working nandroid, rfs/ext2/ext4 formatting, multiple tweak options, Voodoo color, Voodoo sound, BLN, 1200MHz oc and more! Compatible with JVS - JW1 ROM's.
And... Audience chip support! (Big thanks to TRusselo for the I896 GB source which originally made this possible.)
Update: The catch? You will need to use an I897 modem... there is a conflict between the I9000 modems and the Audience chip.
Reformatting functions are contained in a new custom-modified CwM Recovery. Ext4, Ext2, and RFS formatting options are available for /system, /data, /dbdata, and /cache together and individually. Su / Superuser installation is available from within Recovery for un-rooted ROMs. Kernel tweaks are also available from within Recovery, as well as support for init.d scripts and sysctl.conf.
You can flash this over any supported partition scheme.
--- IMPORTANT ---
Click to collapse
You might want to back-up and remove any shell scripts you have in your /system/etc/init.d folder until you have flashed this and can verify that they
are compatible and/or needed.

Actually, I merged some other things from the I89x source which seem to have improved the battery life (and fixed the charge bug), though I won't guarantee it yet.
Edit - "Charging bug" still seems to exist. I'll work on it.
Looks like Christmas done came early.
Do you have to a i897 modem to get the audience support?

mtcarey,
Is it possible to also include the kernel code for the battery from the i896? i find the battery life is much better with the i897 kernels for me.
Edit: just read above post (haven't had morning coffee yet ). I will give this a shot.

thanks for making my cappy so much better than ever
Just want to ask do we need to be on a captivate modem or i9000 modem? And also how do we know if the audience chip is working? Thanks

Audience chip support on a Galaxy S kernel, now that's some great work.

Ok.... gave this a whirl and. ..... boots up fast, very fast. So fast that the boot animation I have set doesn't even get to play all the way thru. But, I noticed that after setting to 1200mhz in voltage control and rebooting, my settings don't stick upon reboot. I have done this 4 times and doesn't stick each time. Yes I have applied settings and saved as boot settings in VC but still no luck. Any help would be great. I am running Continuum 6.2.1 jvq rom right now if that helps. I was using talon 5.1 rc1 kernel before which is based on jvz and i was running fine then. Dunno what could of happened.

the above is a sig, not an insult
With the source code for the kernel, does this mean that the audience support could theoretically be baked into any kernel? What about ICS?
Anyone try this with Bamboo yet? And do you need a different modem to get the Audience support, how's that part of it work?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App

How can we enable Audience chip support?

I believe kernel is mother of them all , that means its proabbaly enabled by default
I may be wrong but I do not believe the kernel will change anythign toward the audience chip .
with that said I never ever used that chip since I spend 90 % of my 400 days owning a captivate on i9000 based rom .
So I cannot do conclusive testing , anyone please make some test and confirm .
Great news!
Do you think now we can hope for Audience support in MIUI/CyanogenMod/ICS soon?

I recommend the stock kernel, but so far I've also tried out the Fusion kernel and I must say, it boosts the battery life significantly.
Recommended settings:
OC to 1.2Ghz.
Boost Min CPU value to 200mhz

Bugs found so far:
For anybody wondering about any bugs found in the Cyanogenmod builds so far, I can say with relative certainty that there're virtually no bugs, aside from the fact that the built in HDMI feature doesn't work. But that's a given seeing as to how most ROMS have the same problem.

yes, everything what u said is true, but i would say that users that wont a faster device should raise min frequency not max because device is much more responsive if min freq. is set to about 200-300 mhz, so no need for OC.

GAPPS - 20121127
my config: cm7 - Franco's kernel - all the plug-in.
why I prefer to GB? because it hasn't gpu acceleration, the boot is much fuster, it doesn't have the isseues that i had with JB (sometimes the keyboard didn't feet the screen, the contacts numbers appeared with seconds of delay),my phone reaches 1300 of OC and LiveOc without freeze or high battery drain (goooood for game!), and finally it is MORE STABLE!
do you want see my benchmark? HERE
My OC Config? 1200 mhz max - 100 mhz min - 104% Live oc (1248mhz-104mhz) - ondemand - deadline
My Volt? 1450 Max arm - 1375mV for 1200mhz - 1250mV for 1000mhz .... the other voltages are stock.
When a JB rom (and i tried a lot of those!) will have this features, i will upgrade my nexus, for now i'm very happy with the old good Gingerbread.
You can find all the projects in my GDrive area, so, if a link on xda will die in future, the rom/kernel are alive.
if you have other good and old rom or kernel post it in this thread, so i will add it!
Do you want Gingerbread but you don't like Gingerbread style? Renew your GB experience with Roboto Font and ICS themes!

Nice tread you should consider adding cyanmobile experience from dev section as it is gb based although I don't like it
Edit:
Also add brainmasters GB miui and tweaked stock GB (which needs fotakill.apk added to the ROM to stop OTA updates.) links still alive in dev section.

THIS is your section
Would have been nice if my launcher fix got credited and not renamed... you know, since I did it.
Same for the ROM file names, renaming them won't help people find them as easily when using a search engine. Just a heads up.
fsck
Hum, sorry, I simply didn't know that the launcher fix is your, sorry.
For filename, I don't think that the original file name will help users, however I will rename those zip. :highfive:

It's just that these zips were named like that originally. Someone looking for those will likely try to search for the original filename rather than a random one, and it helps the search engine index it if it's tied to something already searched "often". It's up to you, simply a heads up. =)
And yes, the fix is mine. Did it for lurtis.

[ROM][11-5-13][GingerBread][Geared-Android][RC1]

http://postimage.org/
The speed of the rom is NOT due to overclocking or modifying the kernel
It's due to the optimization of the management, all that makes it faster is the fact that it can chew through applications better and faster
from the tweak of the management. Overclocking physically changes the speed of the processor.
Hey guys,
We are glad to announce that we will hosting a new website dedicated to Samsung devices which includes but not limited to:
Samsung Galaxy Ace
Samsung Gio
Samsung Galaxy S2
Samsung Galaxy S3
Community Based
I want to develop this rom for YOU, not for myself. So the best way, i think.. to do this is to add polls and have Q&A's, i want to build my roms to fit needs for specific people, whether it is extremely HOT and rips through your battery, or is sturdy and is pretty efficient. I will include several links to different versions with different cooked kernels and scripts, once this thread gets going a bit.
I have always worked around the Galaxy Ace forums and have just really loved the little community going, pretty humorous people.
so i went and purchased the Galaxy Ace and the Galaxy Ace Plus just to develop for the devices.

What is Geared Android?
Geared Android is a highly customized and optimized system dedicated to CyanogenMod. We compile all of our releases from source, meaning we recompile them from clean source code, which has no possibility of infection and which lets us fine tune the system for speed and performance. We do not plagiarizer and we always share our sources and take no credit for anyone elses work, that being said our system is basically CyanogenMod modified further for eye candy, and extreme amounts of speed without tearing up your battery.
Features
Based on Gingerbread 2.3.7, through further development we hope to add support for ICS and possibly Jellybean.
Custom wallpapers
Kernel Re-worked and Developed by me, based on 'dragonns' firekernel, I would call it my own kernel, but dragonn really has shown me just through source how to re-develop such a great kernel like his and i absolutely respect him.
Custom BootSplash Animation (1st bootlogo)
Second Custom Boot Animation (2nd bootlogo)
Very very fast Rom, Different releases on each Release Candidate will be linked, for example we will have an Overclocked Version a Bare boned Version and just a regular version for anyone to add their own scripts and kernels to.
Great battery life on the Regular Version
Lot's more features which will have to be tested yourself!
Notes
The speed of the rom is not due to extreme amounts of overclocking of the kernel. It is from our scripts and optimized source which allows the compatible devices function so fast.
Remember, the speed of your home screen depends on your launcher. We suggest ADW Launcher EX for maximum performance.
We will not be held liable of responsible for any damage done to your device (which won't ever happen)
We always take requests so just hit us with a email, link is in signature picture.
Source Code will be available from github so anyone can compile their own release
Will be doing tutorials on how to customize a rom and a lot more

Ordered a USB OTG cable, should get it in a few days. I will post the results here.
Till now no reboots. It got one hickup when I was testing on 1.901Ghz though, well that is expected. But if it reboots, then it should be due to the ROM and not due to the kernel.
I dont own an OTG and couldnt test it. But theoritically it should work

Will look at the GPU overclocking and Over-Volting department. But now our current concern is the wifi and tethering to work universally. I will update the adreno files in the sources soon (Credits to @desalesouche as always). That will increase the 2D and 3D performances (openGL 2 included) by a lot.
