Xperia SP faulty wifi indicator + wrong wifi indication - Xperia SP General

Hi all,
This morning I was investigating the common wifi issue on our phones. We all know some devices have this issue.
I did a small research with the app Wifi Analyzer and I found this small "bug"..
In systemUI (statusbar) you have the indictors for wifi, nfc, bluetooth, mobile network, time.
When you connect to wifi you get an ammount of bars. I discoverd the following:
(please focus on the statusbar)
Both phones use 4 bars (dot included) to indicate the wificonnection
First picture is from my Samsung Galaxy S Plus Running latest Stock Gingerbread 2.3.6

The second picture is from Xperia SP running latest stock 12.0.A.2.254 (non rooted)
BOTH PHONES WERE ON THE TABLE APROX 2 METER FROM OUR WIRELESS ROUTER!
For some unknow reason the indictator tells a diffrent story than the app Wifi Analyzer..
To be honest i think we all get fooled here. Both phones are having (in my case) a decent but not perfect connection and my Sony still thinks it is a crappy one. ( The option avoid bad connections is off in my case)
So perhaps this is also a bug in Sony roms?
Regards

From what I've read in the past, there is no industry standard to what "one bar" actually means.
That is for the phone network signal though.
I assume there is no standard for Wi-Fi bars either

Which is my conclusion here. When you see only the dot in your status bar. It does not mean it is a crappy connection

It shows that xperia sp wifi cannot catch the signals properly... maybe

Wifi roaming question/problem

My wife and I both have galaxy s2's and I've set the house up with 3 wireless routers... The problem is when roaming throughout the house the phones don't want to make the jump from one router (same ssid's/settings/passwords/different channels) to another. If I turned Wifi on and I'm on the middle floor I have max signal strength... If I move upstairs and stand next to the other router my signal on the upper info bar is at its lowest.... If I look at available networks though it shows my strength at max. It's only when I shut the Wifi off for a few seconds then back on that it Connects to the strongest channel but the process will repeat again when I go downstairs. What can I do to get our phones to switch to the strongest channel automatically? This is really annoying...

Here you can see what i mean... The strength is excellent when I view the network but it's still connected to the channel for the router downstairs even when a stronger "excellent" channel is 6 inches away.

you could try using those routers as repeaters, assuming that many people wont use the wifi. Wait, how big is your house? And do you really need three?
my house is about 2000 square feet but I live in japan where typhoon proof houses have 18inch thick rebar and concrete walls and floors...I have 3 routers, one on each floor wired with cat6 through conduits in the walls. Each router is on a separate channel (1,6,11) and they all work flawlessly as long as I shut the wifi off for several seconds. I just think its strange that the pic in post two shows that the closer router can be seen but its choosing not to switch in favor of the one that it originally connected to even though there is next to no signal.
You're not alone - Galaxy S2 wifi roaming isn't working
Wifi roaming isn't working on my S2 running 2.3.4 (stock Samsung firmware).
Looks like it's the same for others. Google:
"Issue 12649: WIFI roaming not working."
"you tube Hh2XXi4LQ1c"
(I'm not allowed to post links yet )
Waiting for ICS I guess.
It would be nice for galaxy s plus to get working wifi roaming.
I have the same issue on a Samsung Infuse running GB 2.3.6. Only way roaming works for me is brute force - either manually disable/reenable WiFi, or get far enough away from connected WAP that the connection drops. After either, a scan typically picks up the closest router.
I work in a building with a dozen or so APs, so a working roaming config would be very helpful.
Roaming roaming roaming
I use 2 APs that act as Bridge repeaters for my Sky broadband.
I cannot roam between them.
If I disable and enable wireless, the preferred access point is the last one connected, not the strongest signal. The only time I automatically get transferred to another AP is if the original is out of range.
Has anyone tried roaming with the new ICS official ROMs? Does this work?
Will upgrading my Modem to the latest version for Galaxy S2 (GT-I9100) help this?
Any answers to these questions would help greatly.

I just got the OTA update to ICS (4.0.3) in New Zealand. Unfortunately WiFi roaming has not been fixed.
Come on Samsung, sort it out! I was thinking of buying a S3, now I might go for an HTC instead.

Note 3 reception and wifi

i know this has been mentioned before but i cant believe the difference can be this much. i have an s4 and a note 3. i did side by side speedetest's same server, same time (10 times btw) and the results are the same. the s4 is almost 3 times faster. Also i did go in to the service menu and make sure wifi power saving was enabled in both and then disabled, no change. (*#0011# menu key the select wifi to see wifi). i have noticed a difference in reception as well. not as significant but the s4 is always 10-13 db better and gets into lte much faster. fast dormace is enabled on both phones as it is supported by Telus here in canada. any thoughts guys? i ve attached a pic but i can upload a video as well, excuse the quality i had to use my tablet
thank u
looks like i am joining the club.
on three uk 3g sppeds MUCH better on s4 than on note and wifi speeds better on s4 and keeps disconnecting and buggy on N3 compared to s4 and any of my older phones even obsolete old phones like the HTC desire! Hope samsung cant sort this out with updates or have an expensive brick.
Same results here, N3 does half the wifi throughput then my other devices.
Probably what you're all experiencing is Wifi dropouts. It was bogging my internet down on the Note 3. Router was to blame, or really Samsung's chosen Wifi chipset. Either wait for Samsung to fix it or tryout another router model, which will be hit-and-miss unless through people here or at friends, hotspots etc. you bump into a good one.
This will probably be fixed in a future update...
I got 3 rom updates since I bought my device... And the last one fixed the speed problem on wifi... I'm getting the full speed now (60 down and 10 up with Vidéotron) connected to a wifi AC router.

Wi-Fi is intermittent, buffering, dropping connections...

Hey Guys,
I'm currently on the Nexus 5 Experience Stock Kernel - Release 2.4.1 ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2545838, I've tried flashing other kernels such as Francos and a few others but my issue is still around...
Basically the phone can't keep an active connection for long at all, I could be sending messages over whatsapp and it doesn't appear to send but then suddenly It shows that it's sent and the other person has replied...
Loading webpages can take several attempts, refreshing facebook can take several attempts and occasionaly when I look at the tiles the wifi tile is different color (reconnecting to the router) but the wifi in my place is very stable, fast and should work fine... I switched back to Paranoid Android for a test and the wifi works fine on it...
My wifi is awful on all of the 4.4 ROMS, anyone know why and anyone know how to debug and fix?
Thanks
You should flash this zip or add the line to your file by the root app, like root explorer...

I flashed that before it did nothing, I also tried someone else version (had different modified lines)
In that case the only way to fix that is change the kernel or the entire rom...
But wait for "insider" users, did you reported in the rom topic?

I've tried over 10 kernels, over 10 ROMS including 100% stock and even tried different radios / bootloaders but the only thing working for me is 4.3 and lower...
It couldn't be a router setting could it?

Anyone got any ideas about this?
I've tried changing the wifi band to 2.4 and change the region code to Europe, tried wifi optimization on and off but still it's awful
Do you have similar performance issues with other wireless devices when using your router? If so then it likely is a router problem. Does your router have an 'auto' mode for channel or is there a reason you're using 6.

The wireless works perfectly on laptops, other phones (Samsung S2, HTC Desire Z...etc), I'm using channel 6 as in the other part of the house the wireless there uses Channel 1 and the garden uses channel 11, (odd shaped house means parts of the house wouldn't get wireless if I ran them through one router)
I can try changing them all to auto but I doubt it will make a difference.

All three on auto and still the same issues, turned two of the extenders off and just ran it like a normal setup and again the same issues
Anyone else got any ideas?
Tried another ten roms with and without custom kernels, all give Me the same problem
Wi fi issues!
The same things you described also apply to my case!! I expected that new radio or kit kat kernel would solve wifi issues of my nexus 4 but nothing. I have tested also various kernels-roms-fixes but the result is always the same. I compared every new configuration with my nexus 7 2013 and it feels disappointing!!! wifi speed 1.5Mbps for Nexus 4 10.5Mbps for Nexus 7! The only thing I have noticed is that I can achieve 10Mbps also with nexus 4 when I change small settings such as set to 2.4Ghz channel and disable wifi battery optimization.. Speed is improved instantly up to 10Mbps but it works only for some minutes. After that it is the same bad speed / bad signal reception / weird behaviors among different routers!! nothing of these happen with samsung phones!!
Almost bad signal reception also applies to my Nexus 7 2013 depending on the router!! I am very dissapointed with nexus devices! I bought them mainly due to the fact that google used to support its products.

[Q] N4 - No 3G signal - at all

Hey everyone,
first post here. Been hopping over to a N4 I snagged from eBay just recently from a Razr I.
Solid phone, one thing that friggs the hell out of me, I cannot get 3g/H/H+ to work, been turning the internet upside down, the only things so far that I didn't try are flashing a different radio or ROM...
Device Info:
Nexus 4 - 16GB black
Running Stock 4.4.4 Build KTU84P (rooted with towel...)
Kernel 3.4.0 (stock?)
No custom recovery, no fancy rom experiments yet.
As long as I prefer Edge, I have full reception. Once I switch out to WCDMA, the device gives me the finger. No signal. No phone calls possible. No data connection.
SIM card is okay, came directly out of the rI working fine. Tested the card in my wifes phone, checked her sim in mine, all no change. I've been doing the *#*#4636#*#* thing, didn't help either.
Yelled at my providers support (o2 Germany) for about an hour because they claim it's the device. Been in contact with the seller, he claims it was working with o2 and t-mobile.
I'm all out of ideas. Google, and the forum search didn't help either.
APN settings?
Here you go.
-Edith says: They were crosschecked with o2.de website. And they match. Automatic configuration fails with 'Device not compatible'

Flash full factory image and report back. In your situation though I'd probably return the device. It's definitely not your apn settings (you would still get signal). It clearly is the device too, as the sim works fine in another phone.

actually, it Seems to be the Provider in question.
After a lengthy and 'friendly' Chat with their mobile data Team They some what admitted to have issues with the n4 and n5 in particular, which stem from frequency Problems...
Contract is overdue for cancellation anyways... T-mobile has some pretty nice Plans either...
Have you tried a SIM from another provider? There shouldn't be any oddities with frequency for the nexus 4 as it is the same device all around the world with support for most countries.

Ever since Lollipop, multiple devices called "connectsdk" show up on my network.

Ever since Lollipop, multiple devices called "connectsdk" show up on my network.
So this is kind of strange. I went into my router to check on something, and noticed a bunch of mystery devices connected to my network all named "connectsdk". One of them is my phone. Each "device" has its own IP. This is new ever since the 5.0.2 Lollipop update on my G2. I googled "connectsdk" and it is indeed an LG thing.

Now .. this is interesting to me, because ever since the Lollipop update, I have been having terrible battery life and my phone heats up for no apparent reason (Verizon VS980). And this seems to be much worse when I am away from a strong Wifi signal. So naturally I put two and two together, and it has me wondering if these mystery "devices" connected to my router might be causing the atrocious battery life and heat problems. As if maybe they are all searching for signal or probing hotspots at once.
I am assuming that ConnectSDK in this case is something embedded into an LG system app.. and my question is, which one? If I can disable whatever is doing this, I might be able to fix the battery problems.
Any clue what is causing these devices to show up on my network? Any way I can trace the IPs back to whatever system service/app is making these connections? Can any of you guys check your routers and see if these show up for you?
Thanks :good:
I'm seeing connectsdk too but I have a s6. I also have a wrt1900ac.
I have these too: a connectsdk, and a connectsdk-1.
My DHCP detailed list (available in advanced network settings, may be a little different for different routers) says that the connectsdk-1 has the same wireless MAC address as my 10inch Samsung Android Tablet, and the connectsdk says it's connected to the same wireless MAC address as my Samsung Galaxy Nexus Android Phone.
I still don't know what the purpose of these connectSDKs are, but I assume they are legit connections. I was worried at first though, seeing strange things connected to my router. And I don't think these showed up with earlier router firmware.
My connectsdk was my Nexus 7 (2013) Tablet.
