VRoot Warning - Xperia Tablet Z General

Hi folks,
Some of you may have seen a thread floating around other Xperai device boards, but it seems the recent VRoot rooting method injects a suspicious app onto some devices.
Under Settings -> Apps -> Downloaded, an app called MTKCamera is hidden in the app tray but has the following permissions:
Change network connectivity
Connect and disconnect wifi
Full network access
View network connection
View wi-fi connection
Pair with bluetooth devices
Allow wifi multicast reception
Ttake pictures and videos
It is not clear what it's doing, but not all handsets have this installed but it is removable. Given it's permissions anything could be likely from taking pictures without your consent, or perhaps uploading personal details.
If anyone here has it on there device and it will to decompile it, it would be interesting to see what it does. Was on my device since VRoot first came out.

Can't find it on my tablet.
Rooted it with Vroot.
It only installed the weird chinese supersu-like app, which I removed and replaced with SuperSU.
Didn't notice any strange behavior (yet)…
Regards.

Have done a little research on it myself. Seems to be a webcam application on MediaTek devices. Doesn't install on every root though so could be perfectly legit.

It that's correct it's still weird.
Why would a rooting app install a webcam app without the user's consent?
To be honest I was reluctant to use the vroot app but after unsuccesfull attempts with other methods I used it any way…

After further analysis it would appear to the root guru. Doesn't appear to be malicious but still strange. Lots of threads on the Internet about it all in Chinese.

Not found in my XTZ. I realize there are people always trying to blackmail the Chinese, refusing to give recognition they deserved. There are also people who like to blame the Chinese for their own stupidity.

Oh indeed, I appreciate that. I didn't post this as a dig at the Chinese. I am very grateful they've found this root method, however, it seems a little odd for an apllication with these permissions to be injected during a root procedure. It could be part of the exploit for all I know lol

The Chinese are extremely smart, the issue here is there is an app being injected on some tabs and no one knows why. That's really bad and the community needs to know about it, no one here is trying to talk **** about the Chinese.

I've been doing alot of research about this application and whilst it doesn't install on all devices. It has on some. The research led me to alot of Chinese websites that said it was a camera application or image driver. Some of the permissions seem to make sense. One post even reported the application was on an Official 4.2.2 ROM for the HTC Butterfly.
Why it's being installed I don't know. I have 3 Xperia devices and this morning have re run (rooted and unrooted) the utility 3 times on each. The application hasn't re-appeared once.

I too used the vroot and i don't have that app installed...

No problems here either, the actual rooting happened so smooth and quick it almost felt like cheating. Spent way too much time figuring out where the USB-Debugging submenu is hidden though (HTC does not bother to hide it / protect the customer from it at all and it is my first Sony device).
No funny apps either, although I too have o admit that I ran the chinese VROOM file through three virus scanners before I dared to open it. But thats also not to be considered a jib at the chinese, I do the same with downloads from cyrillic sites and stuff distributed by the US government
Great coding job, considering the time I had to spend on certain HTC roots/flashes I almost couldn't believe it was done THAT quick.

App not found in my Xperia L. Also, no weird behavior in my phone since November 3, the day I rooted with this tool.

Ok, cheers mate.

not found the app you mentioned. IF you have not 100% sure of the injection from VRoot, you'd better change your words. Once you can repeat your results, you can say the sentence. However, you have no strong evidence, only a brazen accusation.
please respect the coder who write VRoot, the smart chinese guy.

Vroot is the bomb. After struggling with 3 different rooting methods for about 3 hours I came across vroot although everything was in Chinese I rooted in about 1 min. I have sgp321 and was on stock 4.2.2. Now if only I can get recovery installed and then rom

Here you go:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2532818
Why would you want to unroot?
Any way, once supersu is installed open supersu, go to settings and select unroot.

vRoot doesn't update....
I'm sorry if this post is rather misplaced, however while vRoot works well, the update all and install utilities come back with "having trouble parsing package".
I also don't know how to remove the su package and install Super su instead.
any step by step instructions would be greatly appreciated.
I'm on a Blu Products Tech Vivo 4.5.
also, can anyone post a link for a Custom ROM based upon 4.3 or 4.4 ??
I've researched this, with no luck.
the Raptured ROM works fantastic.
Crying over my mod 9 locked my phone so it won't make any phone calls. go figure.

i tried today to root my droid 2 with z4root app and its stoke on running exploit in order to obtain root access. its the first time im trying to root my phone and im new with android.
thank you
I'm not familar with ZRoot but see if putting your phone in debugging helps maybe.
I had the same issue. Reboot you phone and then make that the first thing you run when it comes back up. It should speed through it. It's not the perfect solution, but it works.

I'm not really familiar with this either, but I've read some of the comments in the market, try doing it several times, it seems to work after a couple tries or so. If it just seems to not be working, try using DoRoot, it's pretty simple and easy to do. You can find it in the Droid 2 Development.
My GF & I both have Droid 2 phones & I used z4root on both. Worked flawlessly on each. I put the phone in debug & then ran z4root. Totally new at this myself so not sure what else will help.

Why so many apps missing?!

OK, so after the Gingerbread update a TON of stuff I purchased in the market is no longer available.
Tweetcaster pro, FIFA, Abduction world attack, Paypal (official), The Sims..... What gives? I've never stolen software for Android, and I don't want to. I want my apps back! Ideas?

Use this apk to fix your market. Reboot. Should solve your problems.
Didn't work. :L Man, this is SUPER annoying.
You sure you did it right? I had the same exact problem with my apps...a lot of people have. That's the fix. Before I applied it, my Slingplayer wasn't showing up in the market...30 freaking dollar app..now it is.
I downloaded the .apk, installed, then rebooted. Nothing. Are you on Gingerbread?
Could someone running GB tell me if they can find tweetcaster pro or FIFA in the market?

You need to run the app though lol. After you install, open your app drawer and run Market Fixer. Click Fix, THEN reboot. Yes, I'm on Gingerbread.

I was able to fix this, as I seemed to get a version update on my Market stealth (as it had the AdMob setting added to my Settings screen, where 2 days ago, it wasn't there). When that happened, all my apps returned.
Right before I found this, I did run the APK from above, but I used QuickReboot to reboot. Coincidence?
Now to get the 55 updates I missed over the past month...
I'm not rooted. That was the issue. I don't want to root either. EA Games took care of me. Now to email handmark.... :L

Android Banking

Hello!
I'm really sorry, I'm asking here because don't know where to ask.
Few months ago I've bought on the Market Android Banking app. It was pooled from the Market. Right know I can't find it seems like it is not here anymore. Tried to contact developer he is not answering too.
Who can give me advice what to do? May be somebody have last version of that app 4.5.1
Can somebody help me? Or it is not worth it?
i have no idea but alot of banks have their own apps, like chase and etc.
You can always google android banking .apk (or whatever the name of the app is) and you should be able to find it like that. Find the apk file download from phone and install. Make sure you have install from unknown sources checked in your settings. Or download apk from computer and transfer to your sd card and install from there. Hope this helps!
Edit... also mobile banking applications are proven to not be that safe so at the least make sure you also download android firewall to make your information a little more secure. Remember though android phones are known to be very easily hacked into!!!!

Huh ???? !!!!
I find it hard to believe Android paid app security is done on the phone !
I can understand perhaps the Market app getting confused, but that shouldn't let you update an app that was installed as a pirate version.
I develop apps and I've never been able to update my paid app from the Market after "sideloading" my app.
And customers who bought via Paypal outside of the Market are never able to update via the Market.

Tried everything mentioned here. Even after flashing a new rom, it still says I purchased it. Even if I go to market.android.com on my laptop, it says I purchased it, but does not allow me to download it.
I downloaded a pirated version of the app so I could try it out for more than 15 minutes, I liked it so I went to purchase it, but with no luck!
Try to unchain the app from Market using Titanium Backup, then try to purchase it once again.

Try to downgrading your Market and then purchase. I did something like that with a app.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using xda premium
The only way it will work is if you create a new gmail account. There is NO other way, no matter how many times you clear data, or use Titanium to remove the app or downgrade market, it will always say you purchased.
Market enabler will also not work.
EDIT: Try this though. Flash the ROM, and when signing into your gmail acc un check the box that says keep this phone backed up with my google account. Do not restore previous backups.
I recently emailed Android Market Support Team, I had exact same issue. This is what I got in reply.
Hi Michal,
Thanks for writing in and for letting us know about this issue - we're aware that some users are seeing apps as "Purchased" but are getting a "Download declined" error. We're presently investigating this issue and will update you as soon as we have more information. I may be requesting further information about the circumstances of this issue, and I really appreciate your continued patience and cooperation in resolving this situation. If you have any further questions, please let me know.

Hopefully this gets resolved soon!
Been itching to play Order & Chaos... tried installing a "cracked" version a while ago, didn't work too well on my phone then. Now I have the Samsung GN and want to give it a try... says 'Purchased' and gives me that error
I have the same issue. This has especially been happening with Market v3.4.4. If you sideload an apk then sometimes Market registers it with your account as purchased but when it tries to access the app it declines as there's no actual purchase. I emailed Market support and got the same reply. It doesn't happen with all apps but with a few. It's quite a random occurrence. No way to reproduce it each time and no way to fix it from our side. It's a Google side issue.
Also, I'm not very sure, but I've experienced this problem with a few apps distinctly after restoring a backup using MyBackup Pro. Maybe it is something to do with batch restoring Market links, when you include apps that you haven't downloaded from Market. During regular usage of my phone, even with sideloading apps, I haven't noticed the issue repeating with any other apps. I only remember it happening after a restore.

Have the same problem with Swiftkey x. Shows up in the market as purchased when it wasn't.
But as I really like it I wanted to purchase it properly, but can't thru the market.
I've since purchased it thru AndroidIt App.
So all good now but any updates have to be done thru AndroidIt app as the market still says I've purchased it then says can't download cause i haven't purchased it!!!!

Thanks both - the Barclays app doesn't like (won't run on) rooted phones, or CyanogenMod (I believe), which is a real pain.
Just did a live chat with OnePlus, 'Danielito' assures me that it will run!
If it can't, install xposed then install RootCloak, configure it to work for Barclay's app then reboot. Worked for me for my bank app which doesn't work on rooted device before

Thanks for your interest. I have never found a way of getting the Barclays app to work on a rooted phone, and as far as I'm aware neither has anyone else. I actually have a rooted phone right now - Jiayu S3 - and whatever I've tried, the app still won't run (it says it can't run on rooted devices).
And to be honest, I just want to be able to install the app without having to do anything else!

I've tested myself and yeah, rootcloak no longer works. U may have just to settle on www.barclays.mobi if you wanna use on rooted devices.
The developers of rootcloak stated that Barclays app was updated to utilize the method of detecting through native library which is very difficult to bypass/hide away.

I have updated my post above with the explanation. Basically at the current moment the app wont run on any rooted device unless someone found a new way to bypass it. This is not a device specific issue. It applies to all rooted devices by how the root binary logic works.
And if you're not gonna root, yeah it will work
Sent from my ONE A2003 using Tapatalk
Just to clarify, the OP2 doesn't come rooted so you should be fine with the app.
Very wrong. The Barclay's App wouldn't run on dual SIM phones. They're such clowns.
I left Barclay's over this final straw and went to Lloyds.
But you still have to manage without root.
Exactly! Barclay banking app developers are f**king clowns!!! bought my self a zenfone 2 today (which is also dual sim) and the app wont even open. it just crashes. Spoke to barclays customer services and tech people and guess what they said?.... Said their app does not support Intel processors..... I MEAN WHAT THE ACTUAL F**K!!! what do they want me to do? sell my £200 phone and by another crappy spec one just to run there app? Absolutly ridiculous, iam fumin!
I ran Barclays app on my stock OnePlus 2 for over 2 years without any issue.
