Not activating Verizon G2 - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Received my G2 from online during the "glitch" unlimited data weekend. So after I tried to activate online, the phone never hold 4G for more than about 30 sec. Next day went into Vz Store and they said their is bad batch, and wouldn't give me one. Next day tried 2nd store, they gave me a new one, but after an hour it didn't activate. Today (day 4) I went to last store in this area and they spent an hour and tried some more things, and they tried a new one and it did the same thing, no activation. I'm waiting until next week to walk in a swap for a working G2. One of the employees mention that the LG Rep came by and asked about activation problems and mentioned a work around. They didn't have his card and never found a solution.
Any ideas?

The problem I had with the G2 is that it came with a SIM card in the phone, but it wouldn't activate using that one. I had to use the one that was shipped with the device. I was not sure on the difference between the two internally except the one in the phone that didn't work was all white, and the one that did work was white with a red stripe across it.
It may not be the phone, it may be the SIM. Ask for a replacement SIM for that line and see if it activates?

Same issue for me.
My Verizon G2 came with a SIM installed, but it would not activate with that SIM. The only way to get it to activate was to use the other SIM that came in the box that I had to pop out of the larger card that came in a red envelope.

Mine also came with a SIM installed that didn't work. I felt bad for wasting a CS rep's time for something I should have found in the box.

Same issue for mine out the box but a call to vzw tier2 and all was well after five minutes. No problems since

Not SIM card issue

We have tried 3 different phones and 5 sim cards (I've got to keep all of them so far). They even tried a non NFC sim card. Either way this week I'll be going into one of the 3 stores I've already visited and try to get a work G2. They mentioned to local LG Rep came in a asked had they had activation issues, but they had only sold one, and he mentioned a work around, but they didn't get the info and didn't have the Reps business card. I hit LG support site and dropped an email, about to hit them up on chat. Thanks for the feedback. This phone is a beast.

[Q] Activation on VZW

Has anyone had any trouble activating the G2 on VZW? I received mine in the mail yesterday after I ordered it online from VZW as an upgrade to my Galaxy Nexus. So far I have been unable to activate it. When I turn it on and it says it is activating, it just hangs for 10-15 minutes and then errors out. It suggests going to a place with service, but I can see on-screen that I have 2-3 bars of 3G service consistently. It seemed odd that it never connected to 4G, but maybe that only comes post-activation, I don't know.
I'm probably going to head to the VZW store this afternoon to see if they can help me, but I wanted to post this to see if others had any issues when trying to activate their G2s.
Thanks!
Are you using the SIM card that came with the phone? If you have a SIM from your current phone, did you try putting that in instead?
did it come with two cards? one in the phone and one in the box? however you have a nexus so you should've been able to use your old sim card.
if it came with one in the box, use that one. apparently they shipped out bad ones inserted in the phone and gave replacements in the box. happened to my brother. his activated after switching
Sent from my LG G2 using Tapatalk 4
Ahhhh, no, I did not switch SIM cards. This is the first time I have tried activating a phone on my own outside of a store, so I didn't know about that step. The G2 came with a SIM card already in it, and there wasn't another one in the box. I'll try taking the one out of my Nexus and putting it in the G2 in just a bit.
Thank you both for the tip!

Bought a Verizon PrePaid Moto G Today...

So let me tell you how this went down...
First, I go to a local Best Buy Mobile store to check out the Moto G for my girlfriend. They tell me they can't sell me one in the store until Jan. 9th, but if I purchase one online and choose to pickup in the store, I could get one. So I stand in the store, buy the phone on my GS4, and pick it up at the counter. Weird process, but whatever.
So I bought the phone. The lady at the register assured me that I would be able to use this on her line (which is a contract line). Go to activate it, and find out that it can't be done until the 9th. That's cool, no problem. Once I get home, I find out that the phone will only work on a prepaid line and BestBuy did not inform me of this. I go back up to the store to return it, but they won't take it back because it's opened. Oh, I forgot to mention, the lady at the damn counter was the one who opened it!
So, is there ANY way that I could get this to activate on a contract line without having it activated on a prepaid line for 6 months, or am I screwed? If not, is there a good way to bypass the activation and use it solely as a wifi "tablet" (for my girlfriend's kid)?
If I actually am screwed, anyone want this thing for $80 shipped in the continental US?
That's a lie about it being opened. I have returned prepaid phone there on several occasions. There is something either shady about your story or the person working but something isn't adding up here.

You can bypass the activation easily, simply hit next 1 time, pull down the notification center, click on the multitasking button and swipe away the activation screen quickly, and boom! You have a $100 iPod touch alternative (which is why I bought it) I recorded a short video to show you, wiped it real quick because I just got it yesterday anyways

Why? CDMA phones have never used SIM slots. It's only with LTE now that Verizon and Sprint have used SIMs in their phones

uhm it was my impression that with bestbuy you can return prepaid phones opened within 14 days, the part you left out of your story is how long you waited to return the phone!

Cool story, brah. Nonetheless, I guess you missed the fact that he bought this for his girlfriend who is under contract with Verizon which is a CDMA carrier. You can't buy a GSM phone and use it on a CDMA carrier. The only time one would need a SIM card slot is if you're using it on Sprint or Verizon's LTE network and since this phone doesn't have LTE....
Thanks for the responses guys! I'll try the unlock method later tonight when I have the phone in hand again (girlfriend still has it at the moment).
As for the return policy, I agree with y'all. I probably should be able to take it back, but the lady at the counter seemed like she might have been new or something. I actually tried to take it back about 4 hours later, so way within the 14 day window mentioned earlier.
On a side note, I won't be using the phone either way as I just went ahead and bought a like-new GS3 from a friend that she is going to use (wish I would have known he was selling it PRIOR to all this). If I can use it as a tablet, I'll just let her kid have it, but if not, I'll try and take it back again.
Will keep everyone posted!
keep us posted guy, I might take you up on that offer.
Good luck.

Correct. After being told they didn't have any at my local store I was happy to inform them that they had 8 of them in stock which was very easy to find out online, and a little arguing about whether or not they could sell it yet, as well as a call to their Verizon rep, I finally was able to procure a Moto G without activating it. Hoping to find out this will work immediately with PagePlus.
Good news everyone, I was able to bypass the activation screen and unlock the phone for "tablet" use (using the methods mentioned in this thread). After playing with the phone for a little while, I gotta say, I actually like the thing! While we won't be using this as a phone, I will probably keep it to use as a MP3 player for the house.
I played around with the features a little and the only real disappointment that I saw was the camera. Maybe I'm use to the 13MP on the GS4, but the picture quality just didn't seem very good. Better than my girlfriend's old iPhone 4, but lacking nonetheless.

Let me know how that works out. I tried and the pageplus rep said that the phone was unable to work, and it needed to be 'unlocked.' I wonder if I just got someone who didn't know what to do.
I returned my Verizon prepaid moto g today to BB. I did not have any issues. They did check to see if it had been activated. They turned the phone on and seeing the activate wizard appear turned it off. They only thing I didn't get back was the $0.70 for a 911 fee.

Verizon BS - Typical

So I had my Nexus 6 delivered today, the open version ordered from Google. Went in to Verizon to have them switch over my sim (I had a larger sim with my LG G3, so had to get a smaller sim), and after 45 minutes of back and forth, they refused to put the device on their network because as they say "We have a Nexus 6 device already on our network, so you can purchase it from us". That was my official answer given to me from them. We tried two different technicians, managers, etc, and they downright refused.
I'm over this crap with them, spent my entire lunch hour doing this, dealing with getting the device after it wasn't able to be delivered to my address, multiple trips to the local fedex office.. The second I can cancel my account with them, I'm out.
If you have Verizon and want to order one of these, you'll have to order their blue piece of crap (I wanted the white version) and the only phone on for any of the networks that wont work elsewhere.

You can get it working. Read this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/how-to-verizon-nano-sim-nexus-6-t2944308
My personal experience here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57564205&postcount=99
I guess things are hit or miss at Verizon. When the store couldn't help me I had them call Technical Support, tech support assigned a nano sim from the store to a dummy IMEI number and activated it on my account. Took them 10 minutes to do what the store couldn't figure out in an hour. They have dummy IMEI's, just have to reach someone that knows what they are doing...

there are a gazillion post on this topic. You can cut down your G3's SIM card and use it - SIM cutters are cheap on Amazon.
Or you can order a nano SIM card from Verizon - you can tell them you are buying a used S6 and they will mail you one. Then when it arrives, all you need is the IMEI of a Verizon Android device that takes a nano SIM card and you can have a chat rep activate the nano SIM they send you using that IMEI. You can usually find someone who posted a picture of a box with an IMEI on it - Moto X will work as will S6, M8, M9, but not iPhones, those are different nano SIMs.
Or if you know anyone on Verizon who has an Android that uses a nano SIM card, you can suspend their line w/o billing temporarily to free up their phone to use it to activate the nano SIM on your line. Then when you have done that, you pop the nano SIM in your N6 and then they can put their SIM card back in their device and unsuspend their line.
I always have two Verizon sim cards stored in case the next phone I get uses a different sim card size. They're easy to get by contacting a VZW rep or ordering one online from some seller for cheap. Activating them through chat is easy. You can also activate it yourself by switching your device through My Verizon, but since the Google Play version isn't a Verizon IMEI, that option won't work. I avoid having to go deal with VZW reps in person

I'd have to second this. I had a 2014 Moto X and just swapped the SIM with no issues. However, I think they easiest thing for you to do would be to order a cheap SIM cutter. Amazon.com - Aerb SIM Cutter
You could have saved yourself time and frustration by simply reading one of the dozens of threads that already explain this very issue. Nice to have another Verizon thread though /s

Yes you can cut the micro sim to nano sim as many people here said, but if i was you i cut verizon first for that kind of service. dont' know about other carriers, but with ATT the last few months i can just drop in their store and changed sim 3 times (2 for me and one for my brother) as i changed phone from iphone to inew v8 to oneplus and last week to nexus. Never has a problem and no charge. In and out in about 15 min for them to activate the imei in their system with new sim
I have sprint. I went into a sprint store with a n6 I ordered from Motorola directly. They got a nano Sim, activated my device and didn't even charge me a penny. I had Verizon but canceled both lines I had with them because of customer service. I broke contracts on both lines.

The easiest thing to do when a Sim card is too big is.....? That's right, cut it. I did that with many phones. Had the note 4 and wanted to switch to a white 64gb nexus 6 from the play store and just popped in the Sim from my Note 4 and it worked without having to do anything. Yes on the my Verizon mobile app it says "non Verizon device" and that alters my life in exactly zero ways.

Going in to a store to have them change out your sim card is a waste of time. Even if you happen to have a sane service provider who won't give you a hard time. Why? Because it is a waste of time. If you don't have a drywall knife (some call them "box cutters" or "utility knives"), go to home depot and buy one, then trim the plastic off from around the contact pad until it fits the phone. (note: take off multiple THIN slices so you don't stress the chip).

Issues activating MXPE 2015 on Sprint?

I'm reading about issues with Sprint activation on phones purchased from Amazon and Best Buy. Is this everyone, or just a percentage of those MXPE owners?
Who has successfully activated on Sprint AND received the proper SIM from them? If you did, exactly how did you do it?
Who has not been able to activate?
Thank you!
I was able to activate on sprint. They had to leave off the last number in the IMEI to get their system to accept. Then they added a SIM card and everything was good to go. I don't know the details of what SIM card they had to use. My phone came from Amazon.

Here in Augusta a very knowledgeable rep gave me this for free.
But I ordered from moto so the 15th it is for me.
She also said that once more Moto X's were activated the easier the process would be.
In essence Sprint learns by trial and error..
Oh and sprints sim card seem to be device specific.Unlike Verizon and others.
I was thinking cut my Note 3 sim to Nano size and Vaaaala...
But she said that would not have worked. ..
I got a 128 gb sd and clear case and glass shield waiting..
Now if I can just wait it out...lol

I was thinking cut my Note 3 sim to Nano size and Vaaaala...
But she said that would not have worked. ..
I got a 128 gb sd and clear case and glass shield waiting..
Now if I can just wait it out...lol

Interesting. In anticipation of getting my MXPE from Amazon tomorrow, I went into a Sprint store in Aliso Viejo last week and inquired about activation. The rep told me that I could not just take the SIM out of my Moto X 2013 because it doesn't work with SPARK and the new MXPE does, so it takes a different SIM. He was about to just give me the SIM when his coworker said that I had to have the phone in hand before they would give me the SIM.
That said, I'm just trying to get my ducks in a row for tomorrow morning when I open my phone. I would like to not have any surprise issues. I'm thinking I'll try to activate it myself online using the leave the last number off the imei technique and then head over to a Sprint store for the SIM. Anyone have any thoughts on that strategy?
It's amazing how I hear stories about various sprint stores. I mean you can drive 10 miles and get a totally different experience with customer service reps.
Some are geeks and know exactly what your talking about ,then others don't have a clue.
I find that getting familiar with a sharp rep at a store is invaluable. I mean I go to the same rep,who roots ,knows about xda,and if I do surprise her with something, she quickly researches to give a solid answer.
Same thing with phone support,I've practically hung up on some ,called back to another with better knowledge.
You would think cell phone providers would train their staff or at least one advance rep to talk the xda/geek talk that the average customer would not mention.
As someone posted in another thread, Sprint just put up a support page for the Moto X Pure 2015.

Glad someone posted the sim type. They have sent me three all being the wrong ones. If the one on Friday is not that one I'll request that skew.
Just got back from sprint store. Had a screenshot of the playbook document which I showed to them, also mentioned to leave out the last digit of the IMEI and it activated no problem.

Phone arrived but don't allowed me to pick up! Good job verizon!

My phone arrived but they would not allowed me to pick up. I ordered to ship to verizon store since I'm going to transfer from other carrier. They told me there is a system error that phone is not registered in the system. I wonder how people able to use it days ago. What a horrible service! I guess is time to cancel and switch to buy one get one free deal at att or tmobile.
The same thing happened when I walked into best buy to buy one yesterday. The first phone he grabbed Verizons system said it was not a Verizon phone despite it being in a Verizon box. The next one he grabbed the system said the simple was invalid. He called Verizon and 10 min later I walked out with the phone. It was strange
I would hope you wouldn't switch service over such a small issue that can be fixed. I think this is more of a impatient issue rather than what your stating. Just let them fix it and move on.
