[Q] Unlock Wifi Tethering - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Everytime I turn wifi tethering on, it's said I have to subscribe. I live in Indonesia right now.
I'm newbie, so what should I do? Please guide me.
I don't mind if it's stock rom, all I want is to unlock the wifi tethering.
Well, maybe I can get rid of apps that I don't/can't use such as the amazon things bla..bla..bla...
Thank you so much.

I'm assuming that you are already rooted here but have you tried this or something like this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1981625

Original from Rogers... Havent installed any ROMs because this problem showed up!
If you can access the recovery image, you can flash any ROM that you want. That Rogers original ROM must not be rooted, so you have not root access.

Ok, so to be able to have root access, i need to flash to a ROM? even when I already did the rooting stuff?
Oh ok. I was scared I wouldnt be able to flash to another ROM cuz this applications were telling me I had no root access even when I rooted already.
But wait, if i flash my Rogers Magic, wont I have bluetooth isues and market issues and all of that?

Depends on the rom new hero roms shouldn't have any BT issues but some have problems with protected apps from the market. But just find a rom you like and read what issues the rom might have and find one there cover your needs.
Thanks a lot for ur help

If you have phone service now rooting it won't mess that up. If you don't have service then rooting won't get your service back. Disregard my post in the other thread idk how to reprogram on MetroPCS.
There are some good apps and scripts to root your phone in the development section. Or you can do it the old-fashioned way (you know the way we did it three months ago when root came out LOL).

[Q] Wi-Fi tether not working after Froyo update. Epic 4g.

Hi guys, it's my first time here, sorry if I'm repeating the same question that others had b4, but I can't seen to find the answer. My wireless_tether_***.apk was working fine b4 I updated to Froyo. What can I do to get it going again?
Thank you.

Go back to 2.1?
I believe you need to be rooted in order for this to work. If you are on just froyo, I dont think it will work.
I have rooted it for a while now. Going back to 2.1? Really?
This happened to me as well. After searching the answer was to go to an older version of wifi tether.
What worked for me was the pre11 apk in the link below.
code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
Pre14 didn't work for me had to get 15

Pre15 works fine with froyo. Maybe you could try getting the latest version and installing it. I know this seems like a crazy idea, but how about you give it a go anyhow.
I've tried many different versions, including the most recent one, & no luck, I think that it could be some of my settings. Any ideas?
One thing I just remember, when on 2.1 it asked me for the superuser permission, now it hasn't. Could that be it? How do I give the permission without asking for it?

Isn't it possible that I lost my root?
Kernel?
When I attempt to tether I'm getting that my kernel doesn't support it. How should I proceed?

make sure the version of wifi-tether you use supports your device.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
The above link shows the download and corresponding version that you should use for Epic. I used the lastest version pre15, and it works fine on my 2.2.1 froyo DK28 firmware.
I don't know which firmware are you using, but the pre15 should support the latest froyo
I'm using PRE13 and its working fine for me, used it a couple of times already.. here you go hope this link works.

That's my guess but not sure. one way to check if you lost your root is:
On your phone,
1. go to market, download and install Terminal Emulator
2. run Terminal, then at the prompt line, type "su" (don't include quotation marks) and then hit enter on keyboard
3. if the system says "su not found", that means you lost your root
This may be my stupid way to verify my rooting status. Other experienced users may have better way to do it

use psneuter not ratc. it works. i tested it.
I've tried it, and have yet to succeed in getting it to work.... I've not tried a lot though. Maybe they attempted to block it? Cause if you use the built in USB tethering, it'll check your account before letting you tether. And I wouldn't be surprised if the 3G Mobile Hot Spot checked your account or reported your tethering to AT&T.
Yes the native hot spot app will require you to be on the 45$ 4 gig data pro plus mobile hotspot tethering plan. So anyone sill grandfathered in the unlimited 30$ data plan will loose it if they switch. that's att for ya lol
I am successfully using Wireless Tether version 2.0.5-RC2 to make this post after upgrading to Android 2.2.1 and re-rooting my bravo. Hope this is helpful in some way.

Cool - thanks for the update alamardaman.
I just did the same today and yup verified it worked! I used superoneclick to enable rooting.
Anyone tried android-wired-tether?

Rooted by downgrade... but...

Hi everyone. I rooted a friend/customer's Droid Incredible that came with 2.3 because he wanted to be able to tether wirelessly. This is essentially the ONLY thing he cares about. He is not a techie and is NOT a tinkerer.
I performed the downgrade (to 2.2) and root of his phone the loooong way (ADB, ZergRush, and unrevoked) and successfully got Wifi Tether to work. It's precisely how he wants his phone.
The problem is that now Verizon wants to push the 2.3 update on his phone. I am assuming that this will kill his root and superuser permissions. Once the phone is rooted on 2.2, what is my best option here? I would assume that he doesn't want to throw any wacky roms on there, but I know he doesn't want to get that "Would you like to update?" screen 10x a day.
Should I have him run the update?
Is there a way to disable the update?
Any ideas? Thanks in advance, everyone!

Have you obtained s-off? Your best bet would be to get s-off if your not already and then flash one of the stock based roms built from the newest ota ( stock+, wildstangs 4.08.605.2, touch of blue ), and then set up wifi tether on it. Also you can edit epst settings on a non rooted (or rooted) phone to allow use of the stock wifi hotspot app for free.
At this point, since the phone works exactly how he wants it, I'd prefer to disable the update. Is there a way to make it shaddup?
