I tried searching Google and and here but i could not find an answer. I notice with CM/AOKP/SENSE/MIUI you can send/rec MMS without having data on as it will automatically turn it on and then off for you. I was wondering if there was a mod or something to have that with stock 4.3?

Hi All. My N4 is all stock. To transfer my sms messages from my previous device, I used SMS Backup & Restore app from Playstore to create a backup file which I then transferred to the stock N4. I used the same app on the N4 to restore. Strangely, the restore process froze the N4, and worse, when I rebooted, the stock mms app was suddenly "not installed" (with just the green android robot in its place on the dock). I had to install Go SMS and did the restore all over again. Go SMS worked, fortunately. (I think it may have been the volume of sms restored that choked up the stock mms app, but i'm just speculating, and I still don't why the restore process should delete/uninstall the stock app itself.)
My question now is: is it possible re-install a stock MMS on an all-stock N4? if yes, how? I'm trying to avoid a factory reset if this can be avoided. Many thanks!
Hello, XDA. I'm a long time user (unregistered), have flashed many ROMs successfully on various phones, but this one's got me stumped.
My girlfriend just switched from her iPhone to a Galaxy S4 on the Sprint network. To show her the wonderful world of Android, I showed her all the customizable ROMs and such, and she wanted to hop on board. So I did a nandroid backup, full wipe, the works, like I have many times before without any issue. We decided to go with the Darthstalker S4 Version 9.
We got it up and running, beautifully might I add, with absolutely no issues... until today. Her phone will make and receive calls and texts. But she cannot access the internet, send or receive MMS. I looked through her phone and found nothing out of the ordinary, so I figured a reboot may do the trick. Rebooted, and went to go to the Firefox app to test the internet, when suddenly, this small info box appeared and faded at the bottom of the screen:
"Sorry, no suitable apn info for your sim card, operator is"
Mind you, it appears and fades very quickly, I used Hot Reboot numerous times so the dialog would appear enough times so I could read it. Strangely, it ends at "operator is" and nothing else. To my understanding, APNs are for use with phones using SIM cards. So why is this happening suddenly? Nothing has changed and nothing else has been flashed besides the 100% Transparent AccuWeather Widget. I've been fighting with this for hours now and it seems to beyond my capability of understanding at this point. So, I'm turning it over to you. Can anyone explain to me why this is happening?
Sorry for the long post. I just wanted to get the whole story in so no further questions needed to be asked ("Did you dirty flash" "Choose appropriate carrier in AROMA" etc) so we can move on to the real issue.
Thank you in advance.
That rom is based on T-Mobile. Its known to cause issues with data and MMS. Did you try to back up Apns on a working sprint ROM , then restore those APNs on Darthstalker ?

I still have the nandroid backup of the Stock MF9 ROM that I rooted. I'm going to make a nandroid backup of the current Darthstalker so I can just go back to it when I restore the stock ROM.
The bizarre thing is I cant seem to locate APN anywhere in the settings on her phone. I have the AT&T variant of the Galaxy S3 myself, and I know where it is located there. I figured it would be the same, but I have searched every inch of the settings and found no APN options. That said, where could I find this? I know there are APN related apps, but I've never used them.
On a working sprint native touchwiz ROM. Downlaod system app mover and APN backup frothe the play store. Now open up system app. Give super user permission and make APN backup a system app. Then you will have to reboot . after doing so open up APN backup and hot menu then disable ICS check. Now make a backup.
From here you can flash or restore darthstalker ROM. Download those two apps again, and open up system app and give it su permission, make APN backup a system app. Reboot. Open APN restore, and restore APNs from you backup. Reboot and you should be done with data. Let me know if MMS works after this. If not there is a way you can change some things up with gosms pro to use mms

Sorry for the late reply, been a busy day. She gets off work in an hour so when she gets home I'll try this and report back here. Thank you so much for your help. It's very greatly appreciated.
Ive tried going into adb and resetting the entire phone and re installing the factory occam image for 4.4.2 as well as the radio, bootloader, kernel, system etc but still no dice. Everything else works fine. If I disable wifi it says theres no internet connection and in chrome I get a wifi/data are off error even though data is turned on in system settings. I tried apn reset in the network settings and have rebooted but nothing works. Prior to installing kit kat everything worked fine.
Any suggestions?
Indeed sounds like an apn issue. Verify what the settings are supposed to be. Sounds like it might have come with a wrong set.
I'm using a n4 running rastakat(build date 13,12,13, 4.4.2), Franco kernel r199.
checked my mobile data usage via my service provider app (my vodafone) and it said I've -15mb of data left. checked the data usage in the system settings and Google services have used 0.96gb.
I never had this issue on 4.2 or 4.3, this happened from the 20th - 24th December.
is there a how to guide to fix this? I can't find one myself, should I flash my 4.3 backup.
on a side note, I've deleted/disabled the majority of the gooogle apps as I don't use their apps.
thanks.
Something I would do personally if that was happening to me is disable the auto sync. Also another thing you could do is download a VPN app to help you save more data. I personally don't have that issue with my Nexus 4 and even if I did I have unlimited data. If that doesn't work I would try a custom Rom first. In the case that doesn't help then I'd flash 4.3 back.
thanks, I've turned off auto sync and turned on ristrict background in the data usage part in the settings.
maybe its because of this rastakat custom ROM, I might try and different ROM. never had this problem on PA.
Update: I've flashed omni ROM and applied the settings from above.
Omni ROM has a setting to show network data transfer, how come when I'm not using the internet I'm still getting data transfer?
When I've had high data usage for no clear reason it has been due to an OTA update downloading but being unable to install because I'm rooted. Ifyou're already on 4.4.2 you should be OK, unless there's an other update out!
I have a GS5 on Sprint, running Philz recovery.
I've tried both Omega and Alliance, but I get no DATA or ability to send texts using Hangouts.
I've tried restoring APN's (using APN fix on XDA) from stock and loading them on the custom ROM... I get mobile data, BUT Hangouts still won't send any texts or MMS.
Is there any fix or something I am missing? Should I flash a modem or anything else when installing these ROMs??
This is pretty aggravating since I want a better ROM... Anyone?
