Cannot restore data! - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys I need help with my nexus 4! I bought my phone just yesterday and before that I had a jiayu g2 jb 4.1.2, I backed up everything with titanium backup and go backup as well to restore all my data..... I installed so far 3 ROMs and all of them have the same problem, I can restore everything except my app data. I always get errors when restoring with go backup and with titanium backup when i restore data, the app force closes.... Am I doing some wrong? I am updated officially to 4.3 unlocked it, rooted it with wugfresh toolkit

The TiBu backup path should be /Legacy in case of some Roms and /Emulated in case of a few others (PA). Try changing it and then restore the backup

Backup on nexus 7 without root?

So I flash new ROMs on my phone constantly and I would never be able to bear being such a flash whore without titanium backup. I'd like to root my nexus but I keep reading it deletes everything and as dumb as it seems, I want to keep my Garfield data! I've read about nandroid backup but it does the same image right?
Is there a way to backup just apps+data like titanium backup without rooting it first? Or using a backup app without needing root access?

Stuck at Samsung logo

Hi all,
I was hoping someone could shed sime light to my situation. I have a rogers S4 and I rooted it via motochopper and it worked fine. Restored all my apps from Titanium backuoband all was well.
This morning my phone then got stuck at the samsung boot screen and I had to wipe data via the stock recovery to get iy working again...
Can anyone tell me why this is happening? This is thr 3rd time this has happened

My guess would be the titanium backup. As it can mess things up, once in a while.

I would blame TB mess ups more on old data being restored that causes problems, than TB itself.
OP... Are your app backups from a different ROM? If so, then I would try restoring without data. Or fresh app installs.

are you restoring system apps? or just user apps? if you are restoring system apps or something like the messaging storage, will normally cause problems in TB.
best to just connect to wifi and download all the apps again from playstore.
What I would do is odin back to stock do not restore anything for a day or 2, and monitor it. If it never does it again, then it was your backup, keep in mind some apps that worked on the G3, may not work on the G4.
Yes, this is Titanium, it happenned to me too, remember that doing that is like copying everything in the C: Program Files of a PC, formating the computer and restoring that folder, it might work, but you might end up in a lot of trouble overtime since the OS installs different part everywhere. Use Carbon aka Helium, its a much cleaner way to go
I was restoring apps (with data) and the backups were from older ROMs I used in my nexus 4. I am currently trying a non-rooted method for a few days and see if this problem reoccurs

UPDATE: so far so good... My setup is currently unrooted and I haven't had this issue appear. I'm gonna root in a few days and monitor it again

[Q] Stuck on Boot After Titanium Backup Restore

Hi again,
Recently I flashed a Touchwiz rom, so I could sync with my Fitbit Flex. Then I opened up my Titanium Backup, and I had all my backed up files. I restored all my apps and data (~260 files), which took around 30 min., and then it prompted me to reboot, as it's recommended. I did so, and now my phone is stuck on the Samsung boot animation.
Help please?
Thanks,
gameriot

If you are restoring data to a different ROM, you're gonna have a bad time.
Never ever ever restore data to a ROM that is not the one you got it from. ONLY APPS.

App and app data should be OK. Never system data unless you are on the same exact ROM.

Moving from GNex to N4 ... titanium?

My N4 is on the way after the price drop and i was wondering.. can i do a titanium app backup on my gnex and then restore on the N4?
with no issues (i will be installing paranoid android on it also)
I was just wondering this same thing. I've got a Nexus 7 'flo' waiting for me at home, waiting to be opened, which brought this question to my attention this afternoon. I figured I'd just try it and see what happened, what could go wrong? I assume it'd be fine anyway, I can't think of why it wouldn't be, but maybe wait for someone else who knows more about it to answer, or heck, wait until tomorrow and I'll let you know if it worked for me.
You can indeed try it and see whay happends but I don't think it's a good idea. Alot of roms recommend you NOT to restore your data with Titanium when switching roms while you not only switch roms, but a whole other phone.
You can still try it though, just to be sure make a nandroid backup first.

Oh i never restore apps and data, just apps... would that cause issues?
i restored my gnex titanium backup on my n4 and n7, apps only, no issues. before that, i restored my titanium backup from my nexus s to my gnex
You could also do an adb b/u.
When I migrated from the GN to the N4 I did this:
Code:
adb backup -all -nosystem -shared -apk
It will b/u your sd card contents as well and adb can restore MOST apps. There are some however that have to be installed before they can be restored, but this will also copy your TiBU folder (-shared) tag, so...

Worst that could happen if restoring data that won't work or is corrupt would be some force closes I think so not really serious issues but irritating issues.

if you do get fc's from an app for restoring a titanium backup, go to the phones main settings, apps, then find that app and clear its data. it always fixes those fc's.
Yeah, I did a Titanium back up and restore from the Galaxy Nexus to the Nexus 4 a long time ago. Didn't have any problems. Just make sure to only restore app data and not system data.

[Q] Restore from nandroid

I've upgraded to 4.4.2 kitkat from 4.3.2. Prior to wiping and reformatting, I made a nandroid backup of everything including system. Now, in restoring, do I include the "system" that I see listed or will that muck up everything?
Thanks

If you include system it'll flash your old ROM back. And when you restore data of one android version over another not everything will work right sometimes. It's best to use titanium backup instead.
