Best Buy Trade In Value - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) General

So Best Buy has a trade In program, Where you can trade in your old device for credit Towards you new one. At first I thought It was a good Idea, Intil I saw they will only give $150.00 for my current Note 10.1. Is It just me? or is this a complete rip off? I understand they have to re-sell and make money. Everywhere I Look online, used Note 10.1 going for $300 min. So Best Buy Doubling there money seems a little selfish to me. will anyone be taking this offer? If not what Will you be doing with the original 10.1?
Tmobile is doing something similar, which offer I did take advantage of. I traded in my Note 2 for credit towards my Note 3. Tmobile is offering $275 for the Note 2. Which I thought was far. Cause they do have to resell and make a profit.
I Looked how much best buy was offering for note 2. Which is $200 and only If in perfect condition. If all Best Buys trade in's are giving offers like these, I Cannot see how anyone would want to do it, Has anyone used Best Buy's trade in service? Where you satisfied? How much did you get, for what device?

They aren't quite doubling their money. Many people turn in damaged tablets without all the accessories. It's the lemon theory of economics at work. It's also a lot of trouble to get rid of a tablet at full market place. You need a good reputation to sell on ebay or risk the fact you might get murdered or raped on craigslist. And best buy is a business. You are paying for the convenience and they make money off your. Don't feel entitled; you are not required to sell to them; its a nice option for people with busy lives that actually don't have the time to pinch pennies and get maximum value reselling their old tablets.

Like I said I no there a business and need to make money. I just realized I'm buying way to many tablets! I guess I just wished they would offer more, if so I would take the deal. After the new 10.1 I'll have 4 other tablets just laying around. Cause I always end up using the latest and greatest. I just figured if tmobile could offer $75 more then best buy. Then best buy might be a Lil on the cheap side lol..

I sold mine for$200. I was going to get the new Samsung but decided to just get a laptop instead.

Well, as much as I love the handset itself I'm just not computer savvy enough to make Android do what I want it to. So I thought I'd offer it up here to try and save some money for listing fees before putting it on eBay. As of today I've had it for 1 week. Absolutely no scratches or damage and still has factory plastic cover on the screen. It's currently running modded RC30 v 1.31 with Carbon Glow theme. Comes with original box, instructions, 2 Gb micro SD card, and everything that came from the factory. My price is firm @ $400 USD SHIPPED. Will ship anywhere worldwide *except Africa*. I generally use USPS Priority Mail with insurance. I requested the SIM unlock code from T-Mo about 3 days ago so I expect that to show up any day now. Please reply via PM or email me at [email protected]. Thanks for looking.
*pics were taken several days ago prior to installing new theme*

You might want to lower your price. I bought one off CL almost new with a extra battery, case, box etc for $225. They seem to go for under $300 new.
I'm very well aware of what they're going for on craigslist. My ad is aimed more for those overseas that don't have such easy access to them.
**Mods feel free to lock this thread. I'd prefer private contact if any**
you can get it from ebay, worldwide shipping for less...

Stop giving the guy hell on his price. Try to order an ADP1 and set the shipping to Germany and see what happens to the price - It goes over 750USD. Let the free market determine the price.

Considering that the OP has firmly set his price, aren't those two statements contradictory? (Note, I don't really mind OP's choice of pricing, just pointing out this funny logical flaw.)

I'm not trying to "cheat" anyone. There's nothing dishonest or misleading about my ad. I know for a fact that with my willingness to ship worldwide I will easily get my asking price if I choose to put it on ebay. I simply thought I'd offer it up here first. Clearly, that was a poor decision on my part.

Considering the tone of some replies..that's exactly what I was hoping for. I'll simply take this as a lesson learned about this community and take my business elsewhere. Then there will be no need for further editorialization about my character or intentions.
Thank you to those of you with cooler heads that chose not to be a **** about it.
Honestly I think the problem is that you are asking full market value for something that is opened and without warranty.
Think about it, why would you buy a stereo from some guy off the street even if he was a friend of a friend, if you could get it for the same price from the company which not only guarantee's it but offers 30 day return policy and a manufactures warranty?
Honestly I have no problem with you selling it here, it isn't against the rules. But I think asking 400 for the phone is steep especially considering this is the market where we know what it is worth and how to find them.
I don't see what I'm doing as being any different than what people are doing with the Iphone 3g. You can get a brand new one with contract for $200 from AT&T. But if you've ever tried to buy one outside of AT&T you'd see that no one's willing to let an immaculate one go for less than $400 or so generally. Add on an unlock and jailbreak and that can take it up much higher still. Is it "cheating" to want to capitalize on supply and demand circumstances? An item is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. If no one here thinks my phone is worth $400..that's fine with me. I know there are others that would gladly pay what I'm asking. Obviously, they just don't frequent this site.
I never said you were cheating I was explaining why I think they are pissed off.
Your iPhone vs G1 complaint is like Apples vs Oranges. They are in no way similar. The iPhone can not be bought unless it has a contract. Of course I would pay more for a non contracted phone, but the G1 is 400 with no contract. Wheter it is unlocked and jailbroken is irrelevant since the iPhone can't be software unlocked only jailbroken.
The only criticism I can give for me personally is that I thought you would have at least given xda members a discount. I mean what is 20-40 dollars gonna hurt?
I agree with you in that someone would pay 400 dollars... but I also believe that if you were really trying to help a developer get one you would be giving us a little discount from what you sell it on ebay. But that is just me.

One time (soon to be another focus owner patiently waiting)

I miss my focus reasoning is because of I wanted to save some extra cash for the holidays I returned my focus. But the reason was my (tech guy) walmart contact told me they have the samsung focus in finally and that it was 148.88 I was like well thats only 50 in savings from when I purchased then he told me that it came with a $100 gift card to Walmart! So if you are wanting the focus and to shop at Walmart the actual cost you will spend is 48.88! When my upgrade is reversed going to pick my toy back up!
Its effectively free at Walmart now, pay $99.99, get a $100 Gift card.
AT&T just started a buy one get one free WP7 promo. Good in AT&T stores only.
This just kills me! All these great promotions I can't take advantage of. Buy one get one free, uh...
Amazon also is selling it for 49.99, i returned my surround (i paid 99.99) and am getting the focus and $50 back.
The cheaper they are the more there will be! Go Walmart!
i bought one off of amazon when it was on sell for $50... Im glad i saved $150 for other things and if i dont like it i can just return and get the captivate or sell it on ebay for $500 plus and get a unlocked phone. but i have a feeling ill like it regardless off what everyone is saying

i meant the people who complained about how M$ messed up by not have 1 or 2 feature and blah, blah, blah ( some of them on here). Which i dont see why they are complaining, because its a new Mobile OS and it takes time to develop things. None of the other OSs were perfect @ start.
Same here, but it's not looking to good.
My contract with AT&T just ran out, so the last thing I want is another 2 years with them. I'd like to pick up one of these off contract to hold me for a little while until I can decide which carrier I'll eventually switch to.
Yeah, I haven't seen a lick of any kind of deal anywhere.

xoom only COSTS Best Buy $550!! WTF.

http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...ps-to-1199-99-but-it-costs-best-buy-just-550/
So this makes me think that the price will be significantly lower than $1200 or $800. If not at Best Buy, someone else who can deal with less than 40% margins will sell this thing in the $6-700 range.
F*** Best Buy and their either 45% or even more obscene 118% markups.

They think they can place apple price point/margin(actually even more than apple!) without any track record to proove it... Its ridicules... They clearly want to gouge the first adopters, and a month later i can guarentee they will drop the price by 200$ (especially when ipad 2 is unveiled...)
Its a sad day that im considering and ipad 2 over xoom/other android 3.0 cause of PRICE.

Also, it isn't as if the Xoom will be the only quality Honeycomb device out there. If it cost too much for your taste, wait until cheaper 3.0 tablets arrive. Looking at the trend so far most Honeycomb tablets have almost the exact same specifications anyways.

That's crazy. When I worked at Best Buy a few years back, I found little (if any) markup on almost all laptops. Apparently they've decided that the Xoom is a different story.
I'd like to think that purchasing at a Verizon store will be a different story, but I'm sure there are all kinds of deals in place to keep prices uniform across the industry. It would probably be cheaper getting one shipped from Europe.
Oh well. I'm thinking the Galaxy 10.1 looks better than the Xoom anyway, so maybe I'll stick around to see how it turns out.

I hear ya there, SD card slot is a must in my mind for a tablet.
Love the design of the Tab 10.1 though, the backing looks so ergonomic.
If the xoom is locked down to modding like most other motorola stuff, the sd card won't be that big of a draw.
The markup is nuts, hence why I think you may be able to talk bestbuy into doing it out the door for 800, with the mobile service (that you can cancel).

well you have to take into consideration that BB is probably not going to make a killing on this product. If they were confident that they would sell a lot of Xooms, the price would be less. They would be able to make up for it in volume.
I agree about the mandatory Verizon data but from my understanding you have three days to cancel it and get your money back for that. I myself am going to keep the months worth of data...I've always been with AT&T and am curious about Verizon's service in my area.

You might be surprised what they will do if there is still profit to be made. You can negotiate on just about all big ticket items, especially at the end of the quarter when they want to increase revenue numbers. Never hurts to ask for something like 5 or 10 percent off. Worked for me on a digital camera I wanted and a stove. They took another $200 off my stove, even beat the internet prices I found.

And that employee cost that you see, is not always the price that Best Buy pays for an item. Tablets that require internet activation are in an entire different realm of pricing structures (especially since this is a Verizon tablet).

trust me, BB gives it's opinion to Verizon on what it wants to sell any given item for in their store and Verizon takes that opinion into account when pricing. BB doesn't have to carry any given device.... and Verizon or any other carrier has to work with them on price(as well as many other aspects) if Verizon wants that device in store. You can be sure Verizon's pricing would be different if they anticipated BB would sell tons more of them than they will currently.
All I am saying is this: if this tab was going to sell like the iPad, the price would be less. Verizon nor BB have the luxury of making their profit thru volume with this device.

I know Best buy gives its opinion, but at the end of the day, its out of my hand. There are certain things like I said, that are price controlled regardless of how much Best Buy buys the item from. I'm sure Verizon also wants best buy to sell tons of xooms. During this past holiday I saw more people sold on buying tablets than laptops, sure the initial price is high, relative to what you get, but I'm sure it will come down.
And for what its worth, even though people here are complaining about the high price, this device will be extremely popular.
That being said if I see anything more in best buys system I'll try and post/make note of it

Best Buy and Pricematching

I had to upgrade to my Evo before the April 1 deadline because of the Premier Program changes and I was able to jump in the best buy buyback program for free. And since I don't think I am the only one around here I was wondering.
When I look at what the retail price for phones on bb.com compared to sprint's retail prices, bestbuy is almost $100-200 more. (e.g. sprint Evo $450/ BB Evo $600) Has anyone tried to get them to pricematch sprint when buying a phone at retail price? If you go to bestbuy's pricematch policy the first FAQ is
"What is considered a local retail competitor? "
and the answer is ....
"A retail store located in the same market area as your local Best Buy store."
The reason I ask is this. On the same web page there is a link for a New York Price Match Class Action lawsuit about a similar situation where an individual bought a camera from Best Buy then found the same camera at a "local" camera retail shop for less, and BB wouldn't price match it. And this individual won. (Reference the Decision and Order Document. The conclusion is on the bottom of page 31)
Note : There is more to the story, but this is what started the wheel turning in the lawsuit. I recommend reading that specific document thoroughly so you can see how scandalous retail can be.
I can understand not matching contract prices, although in the past they have for me. But in this case we are talking "retail" price. I have up til August to get 50% for my Evo ($300) and I was thinking for future sake how i would attack the upgrade. I could either do an ETF (about $180) and lose my mobile #, but pay contract price ,or I could just cash in the Evo for the program and buy phone at retail.
Has anyone had any experience with this situation with BB?
Typed on my CyanoSavaged SuperEvo.
I'm not sure why you'd want to sell your phone to best buy when you can get more for it on here, craigslist, or ebay. There is a reason they want to buy it back from you at that price.

I had to purchase my Evo at full retail price and i looked into this too. I was inclined to purchase it at Best Buy because they actually had it in stock where as the sprint stores near me put me on a waiting list (this was during the 2 week wait list stuff)
I hoped to price match because i knew people there from working there 3 years beforehand
They wouldn't price match for me either
I ended up getting my Evo at Radioshack after walking in randomly to see if they had them in stock. It was like 25 bucks more, but after being on a wait list for over a month i decided 25 bucks more than Sprints retail price was worth it
A little off topic, but on the price match subject at Best Buy. I just bought a new high end refrigerator from best buy, and before she rang it up she went online and checked all the major appliance sellers for the product and Lowes had it for $159 cheaper so they matched that price with out even asking. Of course, I had already shopped around and new of the lower price and was planning on making them price match. I prefer shopping at best buy for big purchases to maximize my reward points.

$300 for an EVO which is nearly 2 generations old hardware is a VERY good amount to receive for it.
They only fetch $200-250 average on craigslist, and that's begging the buyer to pay more.
I have purchased a phone from best buy at retail price and they matched the price to sprint for me. I don't know why they would not. That seems kind of stupid.

A lot of times it depends on the sales person. Same thing when you walk into a Sprint store for an upgrade, exchanges, or just service.

Evo's go for about $200-$250 here in the Phoenix area, you will occasionally see the $300, but I doubt that is where the negotiating settles at.

Obviously you didn't read the Class Action I referenced. In the reading the customer was told he could not price match because the identical camera was sold at a local retailer that specifically sold photography equipment, not an electronics chain store like Ultimate Electronics or Circuit City for example. Also they were practicing within the Best Buy chain that they would not price match it it was not cost effective, like a percentage of profit over cost.
Now I know from being a part time manager in the past at an Autozone store that we were not allowed to price match oil/antifreeze products against Wal-Mart, Target, etc., specifically for the reason they were big box stores. But we "could" pricematch other auto part retailers (Checkers, Napa, etc.) This is why I asked the question, because I was wondering if Best Buy has ever said that when buying a phone retail. Because I could see something said along the lines of, "Well they have lower retail because they receive your monthly payment."
In a "for profit" business, I don't think it would be stupid on their end not to price match as they give back considerably higher buy back on phones over Sprint. Also Best Buy may not buy as many phones as Sprint so their bottom line could be slightly higher.
The best buy buy back program is a scam. I'm glad you got it for free; its like saying hey you pay me $250 upfront to purchase this $1000 laptop, and when you trade it back you only get 500. This is stupid and Best buy wins. I used to shop at best buy all the time until realizing that their markup on everything is like 30% higher than normal retail value. I purchased my heroc on launch day at best buy and paid 100 bucks for it with upgrade. I believe at the time sprint had it for 199 with upgrade. I think their full retail price is much higher on phones because they just cancel out the rebates. I purchased my evo at radio shack for 99.88 but their full retail price was also much higher than sprint's as well. Hmmm

However, the situation was at the time was that I had an upgrade that I was going to lose in April whether I used it or not. So now with the EVO3D and the Nexus S coming out, I would like to take advantage of it if necessary.

Trade in your old mobile phone at Tmobile for credit towards new purchase!!

I will be looking at this program when i turn in my vibrant for a sg2 or i may trade it or sell it on craigslist but the program does seem very cool. check out the details above. The reason for this program they say is that the lifespan for most phones isnt very long and this will help with the big bill of the new high end smart phones.
WHAT DO U THINK?
I'd rather sell my phones than give them to carriers. You won't get the same money you would from a sale when you trade in.
It's like selling a used car. You'll get more in a private sale, but giving it to the dealer is easier. I'll stick to craigslist.
yea like he said ^^
its like giving your car to a dealer. its worth $5,000 but he's going to give you $2,000 for it for a trade, so that he can resell it for $6,000 and make a profit.
Same goes here. Say a vibrant is worth $350 in goood condition on ebay.
butttt doubt they'd give you more than say 125 to 150. they do it for profit, and to bring ppl from other service providers.
never the less, theres always ppl out there that will be more than willing to trade it because they dont know any better. haha. Dont get me wrong, it is a good idea for not only T-Mobile, but for those ppl out there that just want a new phone and dont care for their old one or what happens with it once they get a new one. Or even ppl who are coming from other providers and just dont want their old phone.
personally, I keep all my phones. In case of an emergency, or just to have it to play with. If i get the SGSII, I'm totally keeping my Vibrant to keep playing with it, give it to my gf, or just sell it for a good price on ebay.
They estimated $110 for my mint Vibrant on the website. Better off with craigs
For what it's worth, I just recently bought a used Vibrant on craigslist for $150 and it is immaculate. It seems like an OK idea for simplicity, but I personally wouldn't do it for the same reason I won't sell my car to CarMax.
There going after the consumer that either doesn't care or is lazy. $110 for a mint Vibrant is definately low IMO and I'm thinking you would get more on EBay or CL.

$110 for our beloved Vibrants! That's outrageous!

I agree I think that is low, but I think theybwould offer more for non T-Mo smartphones because they be would be getting a new customer, where they are just keeping you if they give you $110, thus no real new income or new customer. Someone should check to see what they offer for a Fascinate or Captivate, and see if they offer more for them.

Well the other thing is they offer a max of 300 which according to the masses who don't know how great a phone these are technically they have released several phones that were expected to compete or be greater than the vibrant since last year, even though quality and hardware is not really improved try a newer phone a couple months old, might get better amount. But i agree the vibrant is awesome and worth much more than that

What do they do with the phones? I've never seen them sell used phones. Sell them online as refurbished?

T-Mobile wont sell them, they are using a third party to do this, who will clean them up and either sell them to someone like Assurion or the carriers where the phones originally came from.

Get the Facts Presently Gazelle is offering $157.00 for the phone if it is in perfect shape and about 20.00 less for one less than perfect. That means if Tmobile is offering 120-130 for immediate trade-in or you can wait 15 days and get 15-20 bucks more for your phone.......... or try to sell online @ Ebay or Craigslist
Those are the facts as of today....... It is an ok deal like all phone carriers their deal are not bad..rarely great..... just OK
I asked a T-mobile employee at the Mall Of America and at a T-Mobile store downtown Minneapolis and they both said they'd only give me 80$ towards a different phone.
