As others have mentioned, the Note3 only works with Kies 3, and kies3 does not support contact sync.
I have an awkward work around to at least get my contacts from outlook to the Note3. The Note 3 will import vcf files from an SD card. Outlook does not support a direct export of vcf files. In this example, I am using an AT&T Note3 with an SD card, Outlook 2010, and W7.
1. In Outlook, open a new e-mail.
2. On the e-mail, click Attach Item, Business card, Other Business Cards
3. Select all of the contacts that you want on your phone, and they will populate the attached section of the fake e-mail
4. Connect the Note3 to the USB port
5. Open Windows Explorer and create a new folder
6. In the fake e-mail, highlight all of the vcf's and drag them over to the new folder. Then highlight all of the vcf's in the new folder and drag them to the root directory of your SD card in the Note3 in Windows Explorer. You will be warned that the files may not play/view on your device. Click do for all files and click Yes.
7. On the Note3, open contacts
8. In the contacts menu, touch Import/Export, Import from SD
9. At this point, my AT&T Note3 misstates "Save contact to" even though you are importing
10. Touch Device, Import all vCard files.
Pain in the Ass! I had a couple of hundred contacts, and it takes a while for them to import. I am sure others will post other work arounds using cloud storage, etc, but my contacts are all local in outlook. I can't believe Samsung released an expensive/powerful smartphone without a way to sync outlook!
Have you tried My Phone Explorer from Google Play ? Works great on my s4 and I think it will sync your MS contacts back to the phone from the PC. You will also need to install the desktop software from the link of the Play Store. It is very fast and you can connect your phone to your PC over wifi.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fjsoft.myphoneexplorer.client
Strange though, are you sure you have enabled option in kies to sync the outlook contacts?
There are plug ins available for outlook to export contacts to vcf file. If you have vcf file one or many copy it to sdcard use contacts-》import/export. (Also you can use Windows dos command to merge*.vcf file to 1 single vcf file). It will scan through the internal sdcard and gives option for import from one or many vcf files.

why not just export all the contacts to csv file and then import the csv through gmail/contacts web portal?

It's Pathetic!
The person responsible for the Note 3 software at Samsung should be fired for not having the "Sync" tab working yet in Kies 3.
One generally completes the software tasks *before* the worldwide launch date, and not as an afterthought.

Never sure about privacy anymore. However, I do not keep any contacts on gmail, and I don't allow the phone to sync contacts with google. On the other hand, I would not be surprised if they can read them another way (like through maps).

Hi,
I have a Sony K750i and I want to import my contacts into my new phone, VPA 1605/Compact III.
The problem I face is that when I transfer from my contacts on my sim (using the VPA's built in sim manger) it creates the contacts as single entries into my contact list, for all the different classes of contacts. IE Mobile/Home/Office etc etc.
It lists my contacts as:
Mr XYZ/m
Mr XYZ/h
Mr XYZ/o
This is a pain and not much use to me.
I can however beam my contacts one by one using Infrared. It transfers the contact as a .vcf and retains the format. But that's real slow when you have lots of contacts.
I also tried bluetooth and could not transfer contacts from K750i>VPA, but could transfer contacts from VPA>K750i. hmmm? Weird! Is there a problem with bluetooth when transfering contacts?
Surely there must be a way of transfering my contacts into the VPA and keep the correct format?
Does anyone else have this problem?
What about a third party phone manager that sits on a PC and can transfer contacts?
I'm at a loss on this one.
TIA
Try Mobile Master Professional, www.mobile-master.com. It can sync the K750i with Outlook and then you can sync Outlook with your Pocket PC.
i copied all my contacts from k750i as vcf files (using fma phone manager software) then added all contacts into a zip file, sent zip file to tytn, unzipped file on tytn and saved to contacts.
that way you can get all of your contacts across in one go! simple!
hope it helps!
Thank You
Thank you for your help.
I can't find the Contacts folder on the VPA Phone.
Using the inbuilt file manager.
TIA
not sure about your phone, but on the tytn it asks if you want to save to contacts when you unzip...
Database
Hmm I get the picture..now! lol
But how do I get rid of the contacts I don't want that was created by the importing of the sim.
Apart from deleting them one at time.
I have found a couple of database editors, but can't find one for WM5
Grrrrrrrrr
EDIT - SOLUTION!
delete the pim.vol at the root and soft reset your phone. This creates a blank contacts database file. Pim.vol also stores your Appointments, so if you delete it you will loose those as well.
Hope this helps someone.
Thanks to all that helped.

it need to click on every VCF file - in a case of hundrets of contacts this would be inconvenient.
but I have found solution to synchronize W800i / K750i / D750i into Windows Mobile on Pocket PC without using Outlook, little tricky but working:
1. export Phone Book with free software MyPhoneExplorer to one CSV file
2. change header (first line) of CSV from:
Code:
"Title","First name","Last name","Mobile","Home","Work","Fax","Other","Street","Postcode","City","State","Country","Info","E-mail","Web","Company","Birthday"
to
Code:
"Title","First name","Last name","Mobile Phone","Home Phone","Business Phone","Business Fax","Home Phone 2","Home Street","Home Postal Code","Home City","Home State","Home Country","Notes","E-mail Address","Web Page","Company","Birthday"
3. rename changed CSV file to: contacts_20081003.csc (date is unimportant, but you must retain format: contacts_RRRRMMDD.csc)
4. pack it with zero compression to ZIP format
5. change ZIP's extension to *.PIB
6. download free PIM Backup 2.8 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705
7. run this PIM Backup from PDA, select "Restore" and select created *.pib file
8. in CSV import settings set "," as delimiter and additionaly map "Last name" to "Name"
should work
Doesn't work for me!
Hi,
I tried tester2's method on my HTC Touch diamond 2, it seems very logical but the HTC doen't seem to comply with it; I get a lot of posts with no names! So when I open any of the posts it has a phone number etc, but I cant get the name part to work. It seems the mapping doesnt work correctly althought i did map "Name" to "Last Name".
Any ideas?
Thanx, N/
Hi,
Not sure if anyone is having similar problems. So I use my sim card contacts on my tp2. But when it read its, its all under the "last name" in tp2, and nothing in the first name.
So in the sim card, name "michelle lulu" is one of the contacts.
When I plug into the tp2, it will only read "michelle lulu" as last name, and nothing on first name. Is there anything I can do on my end to sort this out ?
Thanks.

That happened to me when I first got my T-Mo TP2. I had to edit all of my contacts. It took a while, but it worked! Apparently, it wasn't smart enough to recognize first and last names.
If there's another (easier) solution, that would be great; I'll save that solution so I don't have to go through that crazy process again!
I didn't have this problem, but I thought I'd give my input on a potentially easier solution than manually editing the contacts on the device.
1. Get your contacts (with the messed up name format) saved on your PC Outlook via Activesync.
2. On your PC Outlook, export the contacts to a CSV file.
3. Edit the CSV file accordingly. If you're real hardcore, you can come up with a script to automate this part.
4. Remove all the contacts on your PC Outlook.
5. Import the edited CSV file.
6. Synchronize your with your device.
that sounds like a painful road that lies ahead....

I actually had to do everything on Microsoft MyPhone, so it was easier since I was on a PC.
I don't know, but this seems complicated in some ways yet easy in other ways!
I'm trying to finally switch over to a custom ROM but the only thing that is holding me back is that I cant find a way to import my contacts from the Stock OS over to my gmail account so that when I use the custom ROM, theyll be there. My auto sync is on and it refreshed but gmail is only showing email contacts.
You can save your contacts to your sd card and then import them back over. Contacts >> menu >> export to SD
When I click menu on the people's app/contacts I dont see that option. Am I in the wrong spot?

I found it in Phone >> People >> Menu >> Import/Export
When I lick menu I only see the new contact button, search people, delete contacts, view, and sync exchange contacts
Theres an app (sry dont know the name as of right now) but it exports your entire contact list onto a CVS file or vCard - not that kind - and u can import all of them in gmail.
I believe there's another app that also converts all your current contacts to google contacts, so they sync automatically. I'll check the market later and post the names if u haven't found them already.
Edit: just use ExportContacts and import the cvs file in gmail. then sync them to your phone. after that just make sure when adding a number its a google contact.

Personally I wouldn't use it as many people have reported that it messed up their hero. Its easier still to use "exportcontacts" and import the .cvs file in gmail and then sync them to your phone.
I had a Sony Ericsson TM506 on which the screen doesnt work anymore. About two weeks before it died, i had backed up my contacts using the PC software. It saved my contacts onto a .dbk file. I was wondering if there was a way to get this onto my Vibrant i can get my contacts back.
PS I know is shoulda put them all on my SIM, but oh well.
This is not the fastest method but, in my opinion, the cleanest way to do it.
1) Convert the file to an Excel format so you can save it as a CSV file - there are lots of free dbf to XXX converters available online.
2) Format the new CSV file to match fields that Gmail will recognize. (http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12119) It's possible your original file already has appropriate headers.
3) Import the contacts into Gmail
4) Sync the Gmail with your phone
Now you don't have to worry about losing your contacts when switching phones to the next best Android device in a few years!
sweet, thanks, i'll get to this asap
Hi there..
I'm going to ask you very simple question.
Is there a way to import contact list to android via Microsoft My Phone service?
I have more than 200 contacts in my contact list.
Its easy thing to do but kind'a waste of time..
How do the starters import their list for the very first time?
NOT: I also tried to syncronize my SD android via pimbackup data. I had it done once but the syncronisation thing.. i couldnt find where i should do it.
Just a newbie question
Thank You
I found no way to sync my android with myphone... sorry
Outlook exchange is easiest way for me. MyPhone is a WinMo application/service (Microsoft), and so won't run on android.
Can also use gmail, m:IQ (no idea, just read it somewhere else), myBackup (Again, just read it). Also search market for "contacts" will produce many apps to back them up to SD card.
Hope This Helps.

4. The extracted file should be BACKUP.CSC. Simply change the extension to .CSV and import the file to your gmail account.
All your contacts can now be imported to your phone through gmail
But how? There is no import/file upload menu in our gmal settings
That is where im stuck!
- just follow the instructions given in the phone's contact menu.
