Hello guys, my internal storage is running out of space for no apparent reason, so I downloaded DiskUsage to see what's wrong, screenshot is attached, it shows a segment called system data which is taking up around 4gb of space, I use Omega 10, aren't system files supposed to be sharing part of the 16 gbs available internal memory and that's why only around 9 are free? or did I miss something?
Hey man try using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2468596
I used this on my s3 and it was awesome I turned my 16 GB s3 into a 64 GB s3

I don't understand the question, as far as I know I had no file transfer issues, besides the data that was taking up the space wasn't visible anywhere on the device storage, anyway I've solved the issue by formatting the internal storage and re-installing rom, but I would still like to know what caused this to happen, DiskUsage now shows only around 400mb used as system data instead of 4000mb, so it's back to normal I guess.
At what percentage ?
Hi I'd like to know at what percentage of storage do we get the " Storage running out" Notification in a regular Android smartphone ?

Any apps to force *.cab file install to storage card?
well you can try to edit the cabs you need with WinCE Cab Manager for hardcode the paths to point in the storage card but some applications are needed to be in or to have parts of them in Windows folder or to run from the device, so this will not work in all applications
so wince doesn't support installing apps in the storage card?
storage gonna be a problem, unlike in smartphone it asks where to install it.
is it possible to save contacts and email, sms, mms messages directly to the storage card? i remember smartphones have a reg hack for that.
thanks.
it asks depending on the cab, most of the cabs i create i adjusted them not to ask where to install if they can not be installed on the storage card. but other cabs ask if you want to install on the device or the storage card
I have this issue with a couple of games 'Hawx' and 'Xtrakt' no matter what I do even selecting the option to install on storage card they install in the Phone Program files.. They both use nerly 15MB of space which is a big chunk of the 200MB available.

in other words: you are in the wrong section
I have 50MB left of the phone storage so 15MB is a lot, I don't see why the game can't be installed on the memory card.
Is there any app that will list where all the space is being used up, I do agree 200MD is quite a bit, but I have cleared out all temp files I can think of..

I guess you did not get my comment... the BA does not have 200 MB of storage, no matter what you do. MemMaid or SKTools might be ale to give you the info that you are looking for.
ok I just got my diamond, and I had 43MB of free space, after installing xmods HD, and S2A, I only have 3 mb left, what can I uninstall to get more space???
I need like 6 more megs to install sprint picture mail cab and S2U2
1. kill your operator rom and update your rom with an optimized one (use the search!)
2. install software on storage card
try to use third part software, e.g. SKTools. Then use it for optimizing registry, clean orphan files and shortcuts, temporary files from Opera and others.
Try to store e-mail attachments at Internal Storage, short messages (SMS) as well.
Try to delete unnecessary files from main memory in My Documents folder. If you want to store some own music or ringtones - use My documents at Internal Storage.
BTW - don't try to delete files if you are not sure what it exactly is!!!
With SKTools you can move installed apps, like Google Maps (12mb), to the "Internal Storage".
I install some aplications in internal memory, but i find out that my device memory is reduced.. Why? Can i do anything for this? The reason for installing a game in internal is because i dont have much memory in device. But device memory is also reduced .. I cant understand it..
Ι made a mistake in the above , i install in internal storage , not internal memory that i wrote , but device memory is also reduced..
What does it mean?
If you install some apps in internal memory it would be "steal" exactly some internal memory.
But why can;t you install it into Internal Storage? Do you mean you have less than 4 GB Internal Storage? or you have a lot of stuff there?
There is no way to put files somewhere else: Internal Storage or Main memory...
I've just read my data: Program Memory: 38.45 MB free, Data storage 83.7 MB free (22.85 MB busy)....
I put to main memory only three or four apps (touchLock pro, Gscroll, and ... I don't remember)....
Other apps -> Internal Storage.
I know what takes so much memory. Extracted themes to TF3D. You know where I find every old unpacked themes?
I had a lot of them and each time after the installation of another theme in the place of my missing memory. I thought that these files are exchanged, but apparently it is not.

How full is the phone memory? Details...
Did you download something? Downloaded files usually goes to the root of the main memory.
search moving cache on here, that takes up a big chunk of memory...

how , pls tell me
I've got the same problem with my son's phone it keeps on coming up with the message "your phone is running low on free storage space. delete old or unused items to create more space" when I look in file explorer/ windows/youtube its full of old files but will take for ever to delete them indavidualy does anyone know how to remove these old files as I can't access them when the phone is conected up to the pc, plus is it possible to change the cache so these files are saved to the memory card instead.
Please help as my son is driving me around the bend asking me to fix it !!!!!
Hard reset the phone to clear the storage.
Also check you don't have something like voice recorder activating in your pocket or something creating large files of nonsense filling the memory.
I've managed to delete all the old you tube files 525 of them but storage memory is still full
total 180.98mb
in use 177.89mb
free 3.09mb
so now I don't know whats using allthe memory
does any one have any idea whats wrong
cheers

youcan access them from your computer so long as you allow hidden and system files.(in win 7 open the phones windows folder, click alt, tools, folder options, then I think its the second tab, un tick hide protected files and the hidden files one, apply and they should appear.you MAY need to apply to all folders)
or, use resco explorer on your hd2, much than the built in one and will also allow you to choose to un hide system and hidden files.
as for multi select...in resco is a menu option for multi select.
Going to do a hard reset but can't keep on doing that every time it fills up it's only been 2 weeks since it was last reset.
In Settings\System\Memory it is showing that I only have 6.26MB of storage memory free out of 43.5 total. When I click on the storage card tab it shows Storage as 9.93 total 9.09 in and only 0.84 Free. I have looked in file explorer and the storage is full of .CAB files a lot of the names start with Signed_UNI_o2UK_. Can someone tell what these may be and do I still need them as I have flashed the ROM.
This now causing problems with eWallet as the sync with PC seems to use the storage area for the temp files and there is now not enough space to do this. Does anyone know how to get more storage memory. I have tried moving some of the Signed_UNI_o2UK_ files but they are write protected. Any help would be gratefully received.
It would be good to know what ROM are you using
If it´s a WM6.5 it´s normal that you have low RAM free as it´s very heavy
Try installing a 6.1 ROM
I am thinking about getting a nexus7 and these kind of new devices don't have an SD.
Usually the app manager allows me to shift apps to SD. I can also do this with titanium backup at ease.
What happens on no-SD devices? Can I use the 16/32 GB only for music and stuff .. or will app2sd simply shift to this internal ram.

You will not be able to use app2sd to move stuff because there is no SD card. It simply won't work. Also, on a stock 16 GB Nexus 7 you will have ~13GB free because of the system taking up some of the space. RAM is not for storing programs permanently because it is cleared at boot. You can, however, mount a USB flash drive by using a USB OTG cable and the app stickmount. That is the only way to "add" storage to the device.

I think there is a misunderstanding .. the 13 GB should not be cleared at boot .. and this is where I would want to put apps instead of the sd. Would that work?
there is a nand flash chip in the nexus 7. on this chip it contains several Partitons / folders.. One of them is /DATA.. IN there is a symlink folder called SD.. this is where your content will be..
its actually data/ media . but this is to give you a idea of how it works.. Thou there is not a sd card in the device the internal storage (user storage space ) is separated from the the /system folders . There is just no external sd ..
SO I think your questions is DOES IT Have user apps/ media/ music storage space .. YES it does.. its Data/ media partion folder..
Hope this helps . the above is only a example paths are not true but close..
Good Luck . Just buy it.. ger 32 gb if you can ..

Correct. The 13 GB is the device's storage, which is where your data/apps go.

EvanA is correct. N7s simply designate a subdirectory as /sdcard, and that's all that's available for storage on the average unrooted N7. Rooted users can add storage via USB flash drives and memory cards cabled to their N7, but there's only one reasonably easy way to store apps data in true external storage using an N7. That's an app called Directory Bind, for rooted devices.
I think we're getting there but I don't have it yet (feeling dumb). I know I can put music anywhere .. my worries are the apps. I have a desire HD and I am looking at so many apps that memory is full and I have to divert to sd using app2sd. This of course allows me to use much more space for apps than regularly available. I don't need to restore them .. they just work (sd is a bit slower but they work).
How does this work with N7. If it addresses app space to have most of the 32 gig available .. that would be perfect .. then app2sd is definitely not needed.
the app storage space is on the same flash chip as the system and runs at the same fast speed. your apps will run from there as they are installed. Your thinking to much into this..
picture the app storage on the nexus the same as the original storage on your phone.. ONLY MUCH LARGER.. Depending on your phone of course.
32 gb can hold alot of apps . Depending on there data size of course.. Some games like bards tale and horn can consume 2 gb plus data..
Picture a windows computer with 1 hard drive your system is in c/windows folder.. your apps are c/ xxxx c/program files .. but still using the same hard drive . xxx amount of space... Shared .. drive different folders.
There is no need to move nothing.. Well unless you decide to use usb storage.. then well thats a big different. We will skip that for now...
Great .. this is exactly what I was hoping for. Thanks for the heads-up!
