[Q] Which rom should I use? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Guys!!
I'm using Nexus 4 with CM10.2 Nightly.. Its working perfectly but I saw that Pure Speed X is more good so I installed..
Can anyone suggest me a rom for gaming? and which kernel should I use?
I mostly use faux but it is reducing the quadrant and antutu scores in PSX so I reinstalled the rom to get the stock one..
Please Suggest Me a Good Rom For GAMING and a GOOD KERNEL.. :fingers-crossed:

It's a Nexus phone, you can't go wrong with any ROM or kernel. Try them out yourself.

[Q] Best Kernel with Stock 4.2.1

Quick question, which kernels are you fellow XDA users insaling on the N7 with the stock android? That gives you best performance and battery life? Also which 4.2.1 Roms do you prefer? I just got my N7 so i didn;t have time to test everything. I'd like to get a popular opinion on this :victory:

You can use trickster mod (available in the play store) to tweak the kernel. TapaTalk HD is currently in beta. You can dpfindnit on the tapatalk forums.

I've rooted and flashed to a custom kernel on 4.2. Will it be the same process (flash to stock before updating from 4.1.2 to 4.2) if I want to upgrade to 4.2.1?

Yep, it will be the same process! Just make sure you have custom recovery.
I'm loving Stock 4.2.1 with M-Kernel running 51Mhz-1500Mhz, with GPU max 660 with zRAM, and smart dimmer.
Great battery life and very smooth.
I have used trinity, Franco and there isn't much to compare.

Using Paranoid Android with M-kernel, smooth and stable with good battery life :good:

With M-kernel do you notice weak game performace? Or it just don't seem to be any difference from stock?

Can't say I spent much time on stock kernel tbh
All games I play run fairly smooth but then none are that demanding to start with.

Choose ROM and Kernel

Hello all, I have a Nexus S device.
Before JB I use to flash CM every day and it works great. Now I have installed official JB and I want to speed-up my little machine.
Which ROM/kernel do you recommend?
I need stability and battery life.
Thanks and best regards.

I have this combo too. Everything is smooth and the battery life is very good.

There is no "best" combo and often these types of threads are closed. Why? Every phone runs in a different way. I say pick 1 ROM and kernel, give it 2 days and then switch it up. It is easy to clean install with TB. Example: try Cm10 stable version with latest marmite. Then try it with Matr1x kernel, etc. Then try AOKP with marmite, Matr1x, Trinity, etc. then try another ROM with ....
Find what is best for YOU. We all like different things and all our phones perform different on different combos.
Flash and have fun!
Thanks!
I will try CM10 with marmite.
Best regards.
I'd recommend Paranoid Android with matr1x kernel....lightning fast, very stabile, fully-featured, CM-based, and the best battery life of any combo for me
Everyone has their own preferences, so really it comes down to what you are looking for. Personally I'm running Strawberry (Metal Dragon Overlord or whatever) and Marmite 7.1. I'm not quite ready to test the 4.2 ROMs, but I know people who are running them and loving them.
Hell - people like to go back to Gingerbread!

Me too!
I'm on RasbeanJelly + AirKernel, great combo too.
I'm on CM10 but haven't flashed a different kernel..
Really happy of phone's performance so far but perhaps battery life is improvable..
Since so many of you are happy with Marmite I guess I'll give it a shot..
I'm coming from AOKP JB milestone1 which was the best JB ROM i had tried since to days ago.I now have Jellyshot with marmite kernel and everything is smooth and stable. If you want a JB rom try this.
Could somebody port jellyshot to the ns4g?

Ok people,
I have CM10 and followed your advise.. just flashed Marmite 7.1 kernel
I was expecting to see in kernel version (in phone settings) something like Marmite 7.1 blabla.. instead I see an 3.0.52-bedalus_CM-0347--blablabla..
I know mr Bedalus is the developer of Marmite, but anyway I just wanna make sure and make this stupid question..
Do you see the same blabla kernel version as I do or have I somehow not flashed the kernel right
forgive my noobness

Sounds like everything is fine. Enjoy. Try other ROM and kernel combinations to find the one you like best. The Nexus S development section is still active, if not more active since 4.2, have fun.

What kernel?

Hey everyone... Just got home from buying my nexus 4... rooted a few minutes ago and got pa installed. Some of the kernels I used on my galaxy nexus aren't here which I'm sure will be OK.... Are there any kernels that stand out above the others in any way?
Thanks for the help!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I'm using Franco Milestone M1 kernel. Seems to be a great combo with PA with about 4.5-5 hrs of SOT. But try other kernel for yourself and see which one is best for you.

I have tried every kernel here, and the best one that works for me is the enhanced stock kernel. Can under clock, under volt and is the snappiest one . Battery life is good too, plus touch control also works

Link?
Will this be compatible with 0.33 radio and tmobile lte?
It is the enhanced 4.2.2 stock kernel by Faux, you can download it from the first page of his thread.
Yes, it should work fine with .33 radio and LTE.

that has nothing to do with flashing kernels. dont listen to anyone that says they recommend to, theyre clueless. btw, try trinity kernel. and while youre at it, every kernel here is good. find the one that fills your needs and that your device likes best.
OP as pointed out....
Thanks

whats a good Kernel with Purity rom?

Im currently running Purity Rom with stock kernel. I dont like franco or faux kernel.
Which is good for purity rom?
Use hellscore it is a very good kernel. Also try purity kernel if you don't like hellscore.b
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
try them all. every device is unique, and reacts differently with every kernel. plus, we all have different wants, needs, and desires. to find YOUR perfect kernel, you would have to try them all.
First try the ROM kernel, if its good why to change? If not I recommended Franco or semaphore . good luck

There is a thread full of options and results. May I suggest you simply read the Purity thread
I recommend NEO kernel as its the fastest kernel along with hellscore which I heard is also quick. Battery life/stability/customization is very good on them too

Hi, I'm still weighing in my options to root my N7flo. So why not have a comparison of benchmark results from the Anomaly2https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.elevenbitstudios.anomaly2Benchmark benchmark app.
