This is my first post in this excellent forum. I picked up my new Galaxy Note 3 from the `3 Store` in Oxford on Wednesday.
All seems OK so far, but having done lots of research about my device I have a few questions if I may:
1. When I look at `about device` in settings, it states that the model is a SM-N9005, but there is no `UK` suffix that I have seen a few people mention. Is that relevant, or have 3 not given me the UK version - and does it even matter?
2. I seem to have no obvious way of accessing the mobile network settings. Can`t tell if there is a 4G/LTE options tab; there doesn`t seem to be. All I can do is switch mobile data ON/OFF and roaming ON/OFF. The box says all the right things: 2.3Ghz Quad Core, LTE, 3Gb RAM etc
Will the phone work with 4G/LTE once `3` roll out their network upgrade? If so, how would I switch between 3G/4G?
3. No mention on the box or on any of its contents on sim region locking which I thought was standard on the UK version of the 9005.
In short, am I being daft - or do I not have the phone I should have?
Grateful for any help before I resort to contacting `3` tech support.
Regards.

Thanks for replying! Didn`t see that option in settings. Thanks for pointing it out for me!
Under Network mode I get the following options:
WCDMA/GSM
(auto connect)
WCDMA only
There is no mention of LTE.
Is that because the 3 network hasn`t rolled out 4G yet or is there an issue with my phone.
Thanks for any help.

Hey,
I would of thought to that if 3 hasn't got 4G yet it wouldn't show up on your phone, but as long as your phone had 4G capabilities when 3 do get it then your phone will be fine...
Enjoy your new phone...

I got mine from Vodafone UK SM-N9005 model. It had no region lock sticker on box but I noticed the phone is network locked.

FYI, my N3 doesn't show LTE options with my 3 SIM, but does with my Vodafone 4G SIM.
Your phone is fine.

Note 3 on 3 UK
Hi,
Sorry to divert the thread but I noticed a few people saying they got their Note 3 from 3 in the UK. I'm thinking about doing the same but just had a couple of questions.
Is the device they're selling unlocked and does it have operator bloatware on it?
Also, how do people find using it on the 3 network? Obviously no 4G just yet. Although as 3 are selling it as 4G-Ready hopefully it's just a matter of time.
Cheers,
Paul
On 3 here but I got it through an online reseller (phones.co.uk). Very happy with it on Three's network so far. Had numerous issues with my last phone (Galaxy Nexus), sending SMS's didn't always work and stuff like that but no problems here.
Not getting great speeds, haven't seen it go above 4MBps yet but I think that's more of an area issue and I've only done minimal testing so far (It's no worse than said Galaxy Nexus).
Is there anyway to figure what region does a Note come from? I am pretty sure mine is an International one but I have no way to confirm it. I have the Snapdragon one with 4G. No region lock stickers on the box. The seller I bought it from said they buy some from UK and some from US and then sell them in the UAE. The box however is localized (Arabic print) so I am not sure anymore.

Hi All, I have an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505. The mobile provider here in ireland, will be releasing 4g. When I check the network settings, I do not see any reference to lte as an option. Looking on the internet, it seems I may have a hong kong version and they used a rom that did not have lte in it.
My queries are:
1. Will the lte option work on this phone, even though there is no option in the network settings menu?
2. Is there a way of getting this lte to show up in the network section?
3. I have seen a few answers referring to the service menu and here you can supposedly add in the missing lte. I did try and follow it,but nothing happened.
I am not very phone technical. Any replies would be greatly appreciated.

I am not sure what other information you are looking for. It is a Samsung Galaxy S4, I9505 with 16gb. It is 3g/4g capable. When I go into network settings, I do not see the lte option. I have looked on the web, and it seems that this is an issue with these phones sourced from Hong Kong.
i have no options for it either, and i have 4G
That is the problem with xda.People give 10% of the info, and someone like me is expected to guess the rest.
You should be putting down exact phone model, firmware, sim provider, country, phones csc/country of origin.
All I know about hong kong is that is where you get all that cheapo copyright infringement crap stuff.
You could possibly flash a stock rom for your country/carrier, or see if theres a secret menu to get it.
As you suspect, there should be the 4g/3g/2g option like I have on my uk 19505.

I am in dublin, ireland and three, Mobile company, has lauched 4g. I bought my i9505 last june. I cannot access 4g. When I go to look at network settings, 4g lte is not listed. When I ordered the phone sim free, it must have been sourced from hong kong. This is a known issue on the web
The phone is running android 4.3, with a bsseband of i9505zhuemk2.
If i flash my phone with kit kat, as i have seen on this forum, will it give me the option for 4g? I have factory restored the phone but with no luck. If i follow the instructions to flash my phone, using o
din, is it usually straightforward ? i am a bit of a newbie with smart phones, so any help is appreciated. Mark
If it was me Id flash BTU 4.3.See user "repulsa" posts as he put up a mega link to download that file quick, opposed to it taking 8 hours from sammobile.
Read a tutorial about using odin first.
I suppose you could even use the 4.3 three rom if you want....
SAmsung Galaxy S4 I9505 still missing LTE Option
Hi,
I have flashed the 4.3 android btu onto the phone, as suggested and it has gotten rid of some of the apps. It was working fine until it would suddenly reboot. I have just factory reset the phone to see if this solves the problem. But the lte 4g option is still not showing in the network setting section. The area I am in cannot access three's 4g signal yet. Does the 4g option in network settings, only show up when you get a 4g signal? or should it be there regardless.
Will upgrading to kitkat fix this issue? I believe samsung will be releasing this version in the next few weeks. If it does, do you think that when I update the os, will make this 4g/lte option appear?
Also is there a link that I could flash to get kitkat that won't invalidate the warranty? TIA MArk

I also don't get the 4G LTE option on 3 UK but the option appears when I put an EE SIM card in. I think it's because 3 hasn't yet activated 4G on your SIM. They should activate it within the next month or so.
Edit: I have just checked the 3 website and it says a software update is required for 4G to work so upgrading to KitKat might fix it.

Hi, I cant seem to switch my phone to 4g / LTE. I've tried the various *# hacks like LTE only, but i only get 'Not supported'. Anyone else experiencing this? I was using 4g and getting 4g speeds on my N5. The phone was previously locked and I unlocked it straight away after receiving it.
The software version is D80210g-234-30
Anyone?
im also interested on how to fix this. anyone?
Turns out it was just a problem with the sim / network I was using (Tesco (o2)). When I tried with another 4g sim the options for LTE showed just fine

It was a problem with my network provider, nothing to do with the phone. Try another 4g sim from another network and see if you get 4g / LTE
I contacted LG today about the 4G issues that many experience and I thought I should share the official response:
Many Thanks for your email regarding your LG G2, I am sorry to hear you are experiencing problems in receiving 4G.
Can I just ask whom your network provider is? All main UK network providers bar a couple are receiving 4G via our handset, there are only a few 4G networks at the moment who are yet to approve the software on the G2. Please note it is not a limitation of the handset but is network dependent
The above will also explain why some other people in the area are getting it, their networks are almost certainly among those whom have approved the software on the G2 handset.
I look forward to your earliest response with the network provider, once received we should be able to clarify this for you.

Hi, I have recently upgraded my phone to a sim free LG G2 also, and in doing so spoke to Tesco Mobile about receiving a new 4G sim to match my upgraded tariff.
This has all been put in place but I still have no ability to select LTE in the preferred network section. New APN settings were sent out by Tesco but this didnt make any additional setting options available, has anyone got any more info on this issue or advice?

You probably also have an non-EUR software version installed on your G2. Where did you buy it from?
If the above stands, the solution is to flash the EUR software version, although I haven't as I do not really need 4G for the time being. 3G is completely fine.

The handset was purchased from Expansys in the UK and the software is version D80220b-EUR-XX.
So I would not have expected that this issue would come up, it seems to be a unique blend of Tesco(UK) carrier settings and the handset software.
I won't be flashing any new ROM as a solution for a problem which sits with the carrier. Though I am keen to hear if any other users have found an alternative work around.

You already have a EUR software version, so you do not have to flash.
There is a problem with some carriers in the UK not approving the G2 4G software as I have stated above.
Had the same problem.
Changed the SIM for a new one (still labelled 3G 128k) and 4G is fine now (stock JB D802 SIM free).
My previous SIM was almost from the turn of the century (cut to fit microSIM)
I'm having the same problem, no LTE option, here's a solution:
Enter Android test menu by dialing *#*#4636#*#*
Go to Phone Information ... Set preffered network type ... f.e. to LTE/GSM/WCDMA ... if LTE is available, my phone switches to LTE ( showing 4G ) immediately without restarting.
This is what I did

I have a weird issue with LTE on my Note 3. When I go to settings, and set network mode to LTE/WCDMA/GSM, LTE sign next to signal strength in status bar appears for a second, and then disappears. And I can't use 4G network.
So I'm asking you, if anybody else have this issues? Is it problem with carrier or phone?
Everything except that works without problems.
Thank you.
What's the model of your Note 3 and carrier?
Doubt this could be the issue but have you checked with the APN for your network?

Well, who knows, I changed APN settings and 2G/3G works, I'll see about 4G later because I can't catch the signal at home.
It's interesting that they have already sent me internet options by sms, and they are probably wrong.
It works now! I've just changed the APN settings and that's it. I can't believe that T-Mobile sends wrong settings.

Hey everyone,
I have a s5 that i bought in Greece while i was there. i have used it in Greece, Istanbul, and Spain with no problems, however when i returned to Canada i cant seem to get it to connect to the data network here. I am on Fido and i have tried all the various APN configurations that i could find on their support site. i have even left the phone with the store for a few hours to try and get it working and they had no luck. i know that its not teh network or the sim card because i have tried the sim card in a few other phones and it works fine.
Now this is the part that is somewhat confusing to me, I can call and sent text messages.... but anything that requires data, no dice.....
Anyone have any ideas?
Samsung support has been no help BTW. as soon as they see that its a European device they essentially say Oh, i dont have to do anything, call Samsung Europe... obviously that would be a really expensive call.
I had a similar problem with my S3 before and the way I fixed it was to find the correct APN settings and create a new APN setting page and fill it out, dont edit one that is already given to you but create another one and fill it with the correct apn settings which you can get from the fido stores. Have you had any problems with calling and receiving calls ? Let me know if this works.
i have done everything that i can think of as far as apn settings goes. i have reset to default apn settings, delete all the apns, and manually entered ones from customer service, deleted those and nothing... it seems like its an apn related problem, because i can see the network. in the about phone and status section i can see that there is an LTE network available, but my phone just doesnt want to connect to it..... ARGHHH

Does your provider use the 2600 frequency (band 7) where you live?, if not you can`t get 4G mate because the rest of the Canadian bands are not supported bij the G900F.
i get that, but im not getting ANY data. i should at the very least get 3G. the 900F has both of Fido's GSM bands 850, 1900

Sorry, i kinda posted this like a noob would. i should have known better. i have tried the sim card in my old phone that i had before a samsung galaxy s2 skyrocket and it works fine.
I just posted this on the fido forums.
Hey everyone,
I have a samsung galaxy s5 that i bought in Greece and i am not able to get it to connect to the Data network of fido for some reason. i am completly stumped as to why. i paid quite a bit for it so it would really suck to get it home to canada and not be able to use it,..
So, before i get suggestions on things to do that i have already done, BEFORE i bought the SM-G900F (European factory unlocked and not region locked) i made sure that the bands would match up on the phone. its pretty much impossible to buy a phone that wont work in north america anymore. LTE is the only big question, but fido uses B1 and the phone has it.
I have used the phone with no issues in Greece where i purchased it, and also in Istanbul, italy, and Japan. I first thought that it was an APN setting issue, but i have been down every route as far as APN settings go. i have reset the apn settings to default on the sim card, nothing, i have manually entered the apn settings from the "how to configure an unlocked phone page" on this site and nothing, i have deleted all the apns manually then only entered the one APN for internet and mms, nothing.
after that didnt work i took thinks to the next level and did a factory data reset and still nothing.... then i took it one level further and re-installed the phones firmware right from baseline by pluging it into kies on the computer and download mode and all that good stuff..... nothing.
The strange part is that i know that the phone can see the network, because if you go under about phone and status, it will show the available network type, be it LTE or WCDMA, it simply says network status "disconnected"
I can send and recieve calls and SMS messages, but no data what so ever, mms, or internet.
PLEASE HELP!!!
Hi guys,
I bought a Verizon s8 in the states and wanted to use it in Europe. I live in the Netherlands, so I swapped in my Vodafone some instead of using the Verizon Sim and everything works fine besides mobile data. I can not change the APN settings as they are locked. Carrier says it's Verizon though it's using the Vodafone Network.
So I was wondering, can I flash the firmware with a european version to get access to the APN settings and remove the carrier lock?

the s8 verizon is not locked just put your sim card in and thats it.you cannot flash international rom on the us version odin wont let you it will fail even if you somehow made it it will brick the phone.the reason is because the us s8 version uses snapdragon chipset and the s8 international version uses exynos chipset they are completely different.
the option you have is to flash the us unlocked version to the verizon s8 i did on mine i have verizon also.

Tv87, I am in the exact situation as you. Have you resolved your problem? If so, what was the solution?
I just moved to the Netherlands a few weeks ago and switched my S8's SIM Card from Verizon to Vodafone. Everything worked fine except for mobile data. The Vodafone rep told me that my APN settings were grayed out / locked; therefore, until they could be edited, my phone would not receive mobile data.

They are not locked, the phone still thinks it has a verizon sim and that's why you cant edit the settings, do a complete factory reset.
And anyways, even with editable apn settings you wont get lte, because your s8 is lacking the european lte bands.

Sorry, we're having trouble activating your phone.
If you're moving your phone number from your old phone to this one, make sure your old phone is turned off.
In addition, I get the following message on the very next screen:
You can set up your phone using Wi-Fi, but you won't be able to make or receive calls until your phone has been activated on the Verizon network.
Is there anyway to unhinge my phone from the Verizon network!? Before I left the United States, Verizon assured me my phone was not locked to their network; however, it appears to be based on the messages received after factory resetting my phone.

What you can try is to flash the USA csc instead of the VZW one that you have right now.
