Hi,
I got my SM-9005 yesterday on contract from Optus (australia).
Does anybody know how the hell you change the icons on the bottom of the screen? I want to get rid of the default "Internet" and change it to Opera. Also getting rid of the text underneath would be good to.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
i use a second launcher, something like Apex, Nova, or Next, will allow you to change the dock icons, rearrange them, redo the icons, and everything else
Will My Magazines still work with a 3rd party launcher?

If you use 3rd party launcher, My Magazine app would be automatically created on the app drawer. At least that's what happen if you use Nova Launcher.

From what I have read, you cannot.

You cannot change the app dock in EPIC. Hopefully that feature will be added in the upcoming updates of GPS and Froyo.
As of now EPIC can't change apps on the dock. Cannot remove/add homescreens. Has basic music player and no eqaulizer as found in captivate and vibrant.

Does this not work?
Only thing I can suggest is ADW launcher or Launcher Pro (I use this). You can have handcent in the dock (I have it there).
Also, thank goodness the Epic 4G still has the Samsung Video player which looks so sweet! It also has the 5.1 surround sound button too

The instructions on the page kramboid linked worked perfectly for me on an unmodified unrooted Fascinate.

Thats because the Fascinate runs TW 3.0....the epic runs 2.5 due to landscape issues in 3.0 and you cannot change the apps in the dock on 2.5. I would definitely suggest ADW or Launcher pro, TW works great but it isn't customizable like adw or launcher pro and both work amazing as well

I was able to change my "Messaging" to Handcent by doing the following:
1) Go to Applications/Menu/Edit
2) On the primary shortcuts, press and hold the shortcut you wish to remove and drag it up by the rest of your apps. You should now have an open slot.
3) Find the Handcent icon and drag it down to the primary shortcuts bar.
4) Click Menu/Save
You should now have Handcent app as a primary shortcut.

This absolutely will work (personal experience doing this on both Froyo and GB stock). One note - you will need to make sure your applications are in "grid view" instead of "list mode" or you won't get the right menu options... at least that's what I recall.

Hi,
I am fairly new to the Android world and I have some questions for you guys.
So as I said the Atrix is my first Android phone I've already rooted it and done all the modification we, bell users, can do.
There is one thing that I think is really weird and its the widget positioning. Why do all widgets have 1/8 of free space on top, on bottom and on the side? And why is there already "pre-designed" area to put you widget in? It feels to me like I can't place them like I want... Am I doing something wrong or is there an option somewhere to remove that?
I tried searching Google for that but wasn't able to find the right word so I can get relevant results.
I am currently using Go Laucher.
Thanks for you help and sorry if there is some english mistake, english isn't my first language.
It is like a fixed grid, but you can have some more freedom/customization using apps like luncher pro
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
I'll try Laucher Pro then!
Thank you!

or using go launcher create a 5x5 grid, or use desktop visualizer to use custom icons all over, etc etc
LauncherPro Plus allows widget resizing. Get it if you dont already have it.
Stick with Go Launcher because 1) it's free and 2) it allows widget resizing without paying (ala Launcher Pro Plus).
Set your grid to 4x5 tight or 5x5 extra tight and you will have barely any margins on the sides.
I changed to 5x5 and it helped a lot!!
Thanks to everyone!
I've got a question slightly related, is there a way to set up the original homescreen launcher to come up when I press the home button because I got Go Launcher and pressing home only seems to go there and I have to kill it to get back to the original screen.

settings/applications/manage applications/go launcher/clear defaults
Thanks for the reply, I already did that but i can set the default for the home button as as the original launcher as long as I have other launchers installed, the original just doesn't show up in the list of choices. I have Launcher Pro as well as I was testing which I would like better but when I press home the list comes up with only Go & Pro launchers, I guess I'll just have to go with a third party one then it seems the default launcher doesn't get it's own app or whatever.
just uninstall them if you dont want to use 3rd party launcher....its that simple

get home switcher from the market its free i have like four dif ui on my atrix
i mean the one on our homescreen by default.
if i go to the add widget list then straight away there's the accuweather one. if i add that all i get is a 2x1 widget and not the 4x1 that's there by default. i mean, if i removed it how would i get it back?

Its resizeble. Just tap and hold on widget
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
yea, just got it. but OMG is that annoying to resize. in LP/adw it's easy, this thing has a mind of it's own on whether i get that yellow box or not. seems freaking random!
anyhoo, what i'm trying to do is move to adw launcher and alls fine apart from the weather widget and the task manager
resizing the weather widget in adw doesnt work properly (big gap in middle) and i assume that the task manager is like HTCs apps? only shows in their launcher?

edit
hmm, never mind. adw launcher lagged like crazy

It's exactly the same for me in TW and LP
hmm, i tried go launcher as well but that's the same.blue square in the middle that's empty. weather is forced to the far right.
weird
The TW widgets only work properly in TW.
The trick to getting in Resize mode is simple. You just put the widget on the homescreen. Then tap and hold it for 2 to 3 seconds (you know, a long press). But dont move at all during that tap and hold. Hold it STILL for a moment, and then drop. It will then go in resize mode.
I dont know if I explained it right. But I always get to resize when I want, not random at all lol

Explanation was useful ... I even will manage to learn it some day LOL
It's dammed difficult !
What ? You can resize the widgets ? But it's pretty tricky ! Well .. why make it simple ?

Only very few Widgets (AccuWeather) supports resizing ... maybe that's why it's so difficult to use this feature LOL
tommo123 i think the weather widget that you are talking about is not the accuweather one. the one that comes default with the phone is a widget called "News & Weather", it will display the 1x4 widget directly. keep scrolling in the widgets towards the end and u will find it.
regards.
yea tried that too. it is the accuweather one but when you stretch that with the defaul launcher it looks ok. but not using other launchers.
using fancy widget at the mo though
Hi,
As this is my first smart phone, I don't know whether this is an Android thing, a Motorola thing or a Flipout thing. But is there any way of getting rid of the 3 buttons/icons (Contacts, Home and Dialler) down the right hand side of the screen? The middle one appears to be a duplication of the home button, and the other 2 aren't that useful.
Thanks
Replace the launcher, ADW Launcher, GO Launcher EX, LauncherPro.
They take a bit to get set up how you want. So keep a dock if you want with things you actually use, or get rid and have more space
Hi,
Thanks for that. I've had a play with a couple of those launchers, and they do allow me to get rid of those icons down the right hand side. But the space where they were still seems to be 'reserved' somehow, as I can put widgets/icons there. Is there anyway I can just get rid of the dock altogether so I can use the whole desktop for whatever I want?
Thanks
As the title say, want to disable the "draw an app or widget" note on the empty screen so i can have a good full size wallpaper, thanks in advance

Are you talking about your home screen? If yes, then you should try using different launchers such as Apex or Nova.

Well if you somehow find a modified LGHome.apk or an Xposed Module that removes the "drag an app.." message, then you're in luck. If the reason why you don't want to use launchers is that the icons looks different then you can easily apply this LG launcher theme so you can feel "at home"
