OTG Manual Enable/Disable?` - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to find a kernal with OTG enabled, however instead of charging through OTG and being activated this way, is it possible to manually enable/disable it through the phone (an app or something?) and have the external power not charge the phone. ?

is it possible to modify kernel to allow charging while in OTG mode? (I added charger into keyboard wires)
or allow using keyboard while in host mode?

OTG Host mode while charging

Hi,
OTG specifications tells it is possible by using a special resistor on id pin.
Does the N7 compatible ? with stock kernel ?
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app
I've tried a USB hub powered from the Asus charger. The hub "input" USB connector showed 5.17v (not tested with a load) - don't know if a USB hub should expose a voltage to the USB host and as hubs go this is as cheap as they get. Connected up to GNex (much prefer GooN!!) with OTG. There is no indication of charging taking place - Android System Info continues to report that the battery is discharging. Added two USB sticks and an SD card StickMount mounted them but no change re charging.

[Q] Is it possible to use USB OTG Female with Nexus 4?

Hey,
Is it possible to use USB OTG Female without external power supply with my Nexus 4? I'm okay with patching kernel or changing it. Am I missing something or it is not possible?
It's only possible with an external powering device, because the USB Port of the N4 is not Made for OTG, it cant give power to the device, but with an external powered one, its possible, with the patches of course.

G S4 with multimedia (HDMI + OTG) dock - not working after power off then power on

Hi All,
I have an issue with my Galaxy S4 (CM12.1) and the Leicke Clever Dock multimedia and otg dock I'm using. If I operate the dock by the instructions (plug in usb peripherals then plug in HDMI then plug in micro usb power before plugging the phone in) it works flawlessly. If I then power off the dock leaving the phone on (i use macrodroid to set it into a low power mode) and then power up again it starts charging but wont transfer the screen to hdmi unless I pull out the phone and plug it back in.
I assume that the issue is the trigger for MHL but I cant understand whether it is something in the phone that isnt putting the usb port into mhl mode or if its the dock not doing something.
A few options:
1 - Find a new dock that enables this (im struggling to work out whether any of them can, even the official samsung one)
2 - Get the phone to enable MHL when charging (i have searched high and low and cant find anything that might be able to help
3 - Get the phone to disable and then enable the usb port (dont know if this will even solve the problem)
4 - Other (suggestions appreciated)
Im also investigating screen casting and will see if there is a route there but I will also need the OTG capability.
Cheers
Findlay

USB-C hub not working

Hello fellow OnePlus 5 owners,
One of the features I was looking forward to the most on my new phone is USB-C, since I always hated that to use any USB device on my previous phone I had to drain my battery. I purchased the Ableconn USBC-4APD USB-C hub from Amazon with pass-through power but I am having problems.
When I try to connect the hub, the phone only recognizes power and shows it's charging less than one in a dozen times, and if I then try to connect any USB device (USB flash drive, keyboard) the LED's on the peripheral just flash once and nothing else happens.
I have tried the same flash drive and keyboard with a regular OTG cable and they work fine. I had a co-worker with a Pixel phone try the hub and it passed through power every time (I did not have a flash drive along to test), it also works as a hub on my laptop (did not try passing through power on that).
My question is, has anyone else tried a USB-C hub, and did it work? Is there something wrong with the OnePlus 5 (hardware/software) in general or something wrong with mine in particular, or is there something wrong with the hub?
I'd appreciate any help in figuring this out.
Is the USB-C cable from the OP5 to the hub an USB-C OTG cable? If not, I suspect that is your issue especially as you indicated the OP5 is recognizing the input to be at least a trickle charge. To my understanding any data access and it would be restricted to read only, requires an OTG cable and the OOS OTG setting to be toggled to on (Settings->Advanced->OTG storage). If you gave TWRP recovery installed you can also check the OTG capability by mounting OTG in the Mount menu as a test access alternative to within OOS.

You misunderstand, the USB-C hub does not require a cable to interface with the phone since it has a USB-C cable attached. I didn't indicate that it at least trickle charges, I said that it rarely recognizes getting charged, as in there is no charging indicator on my phone most of the time.
The OTG setting for storage was enabled, however based on you mentioning the switch I disabled it, and it actually detects power every time I plug the hub in to it with OTG storage set to off. This gives me hope that it's a software issue and can be fixed with either patches in the future, or more likely a custom ROM. I was planning on installing TWRP once Lineage OS is available, but I may try it sooner just to give this a try.
Thank you for the reply!
