I'll check for you when I get home tonight. Are you playing 720p, 1080p, or other video files?

Hi,
I personally don't use the HDMI on my nexus due to the screen bug, however I think your problem is with the audio decoder, try checking it in the settings of the app. It's located in Settings - Decoder, then try using the SW audio decoder, if it doesn't work you may try with another player to see if the problem really relies on the device or the app itself.

I Tried playing around with the settings, including using s/w decoding but that didn't work either. Other players are even worse sometimes.

I'll see if I have any videos that match your description. Or you can PM me on where to find a video sample that matches yours.

Update! PROGRESS! Probably some minor bugs and we are A-OK!

Hey now this is GOOD NEWS!
Every since I have had this machine I haven't been able to play HD and I mean Hiiiiigh Definition 720 Mp4 files.
What always happens when I played them they fastforwarded by itself but with the MX player you have the option to play via H/S or S/H meaning play with software or playing with hardware software.
So you simple set to (surprisingly S/H) you can now play those HD files that are 720p and also hear the sound and in sync and everything, before I had to use handbrake and wait for 7 hours to decode a movie from 720 HD Mp4 TO 720 HD Mp4 (weird) using xoom setting wit Handbrake.
Now I can watch HD movies on my tab finally without conversion!
Next step MKV files! Can be seen excellent on Mobo player but without sound and with VLplayer you can hear sound and see the image but the video stutters all the time.
Give it up to our developers/modders! That managed to fix one CRUCIAL AND COMMERCIAL function!
Cheers!
07/08/2011 Edit: MX Video Player got an update and can now play MKV with new feature setting S/W Decoder (fast mode) and High Definition 720p mkv's can now be played with little or no lag! Awesome!
Really? Nobody happy?
High profile which level? Moboplayer always work fine for me even better on galaxy based rom
I'll test mxplayer when back to home

you can actually play 720p Hp with dice player. though u are restricted by the file size. andof course u have to pay for it though. it's lag free with sound sync.

1080p MKV playback

Hey,
Anyone had any success with playback of mkv files yet?
I expected to be able to stream HD content from my NAS however it didn't work with the 4 players i tried.
Then tried copying a sample onto the unit but still couldnt play it smoothly.
Ended up converting to mp4 and that works fine.
Thanks in advance

I don't think it can play them naively however I use this, it works great:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...SwyLDEsImNvbS5wb2RlbmQubW9iaWxlLmJyb3dzZXIiXQ..
thanks I'll try that when home, just noticed there's already a thread discussing this in the general thread so will keep an eye there too!
DICE, MX and BS played them but they just went out of sync and stuttery etc.

MX has been MY GO TO PLAYER for all things MKV - especially the HD stuff. But, I think it's power comes from optimized cores for decoding. We might have to wait a bit for those optimized cores to come out for the Nexus 10's GPU.

MX Player is working fine with the HW decoder. Tested 720p, 1080p and 1440p files, all buttery smooth.
Most of my mkv files play fine using vlc player. (if you can't see it in the market use these nightlies: http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/armv7-android-neon/)

I can't as well. Streaming 1080p 24 fps video seems to be not possible, even with your tablet 1cm close to your wireless n 5mhz access point. This is from my web search.
Can u guys confirm?

BSplayer just updated their app and provided an alternate HW decoder for the nexus 10 that works beautifully! Plus, it is just about the only app that will also decode DTS audio in .mkv files.

MX player will play DTS audio just fine, but you need to download the proper codecs to do so. A search on these forums should point you in the right direction. Ironically though I did just purchase BS player because I love the option where it finds subtitles easily online with very little effort.
You need to determine if it is an issue with the app not being properly optimized or if it is your device throttling itself down due to thermal restrictions that is causing the stutterer.

Although I like the interface of MX player better but with the new update for alternative HW decoder, all my1080p mkv files play flawlessly and that too, while streaming on Wi-Fi with BS player

mkv no sound?

I tried a bunch of video player and the stock player. My mkv files play fine without any sound. they all have sound on my Note 10.1... any ideas? I didn't expect this
P/S: just found the solution. issue solved with BSplayer... meh I didn't expect this at all. Samsung note tablet can play everything nicely tho.
Having the same issue and experimenting now, so far neither SD or HD h264 mkvs are playing nice through hardware decoding (I either only get software with sound on a low frame rate or hardware with smooth frame rate and no sound). My guess is we are going to have to wait for some folks more talented then myself to put together a custom kernel/codecs to get things running properly.
Edit: tried bsplayer solution, it works decent enough for now, playing 720p mkv smooth enough (around 28fps) with software decoding, sure that's going to eat battery but great workaround in the meantime

Keep in mind that Samsung has the best native codec support of any Android vendor, and will pay the licensing fees for those codecs to be installed on their proprietary devices like the Note or Tab or GS line.
Stock Android as found on the N10 is 100% open source, and Google doesn't necessarily pay for third-party codec support, they leave that to the end user and third-party applications to deal with.
NO PROBLEM (Hakuna Matata), just download BS PLAYER, it plays everything, if the sound is a little bit low for you, then purchase the BS PLAYER PRO version , it increases the sound by 200%.....
I rooted and installed MXPlayer with DTS libs. 1080p MKVs with DTS works great.
Now I wait for CIFS, OTG, and XBMC.

VLC.
How about MX Player? It's what I use primarily for .mkv videos, and it seems to work nicely, in my experience anyway.

MX Player is usually my go-to player, but it does not decode DTS audio due to licensing restrictions. VLC does decode DTS audio, which is why I suggested it. If you are in the USA you have to download the nightly version from the site since it's blocked on the Play Store.

Thanks a lot, here is a video guide

Which video player plays really *smooth*?

I have tried several players (MX, Dice, BS, QQ), but only MX and QQ do hardware acceleration and none of them plays really smooth.
For testing, I used a 720p 24fps Blu-ray rip which plays smoothly on my Galaxy Nexus using MX.
On the N10 it's only *almost* smooth, it looks a bit like if it cannot update the screen fast enough (maybe because of the resolution).
Developers probably need some time to update their app to support Nexus 10's hardware decoder. I would shoot them an email for status.
BTW, I also tried that Timescape 1440p video and I tried the Google Movies Player. Same problems.
Vlc player?

Thanks for the tip. But VLC does not finish scanning at start. Have to force close it.
Also tried VPlayer, but it shows a black screen when HW decoding is enabled.
Try mx player. And dont forget to download mx player decoder based on your procie.
Yeh I'm sorta disappointed at the player also cannot find a video that can display this screens potential and run without dropping frames' I'm sure software can help with this and app updates. Also every website image looks so bad on this screen due to websites not having hi red images lol I'm sure they will fix that for the iPad and in turn for us lol

Already tried MX. What codec should I download? I thought MX displays a message, if you should download a codec.
Maybe the problem is related to 24p. I will have to find something in 60p.
Would be interested in this also as I currently can only use S/W decoder on MX Player.
Give MoboPlayer a shot.
MX player after todays update is playing most files smooth.

I have yet to recieve an update and all files I try and play I get "Cannot play this file with H/W decoder", and S/W I get like 7 FPS.

Best video player without lag

Hello. What is the best combination for playing hd videos wihtout lag? Which app works the best and which rom-kernel?
I have rooted nexus 10 and i have stock kernel-rom. However the hd videos lag a little.(refering to 720p)
I have tried mx player and bsplayer with our cpu addon.
I just use regular bsplayer. Never had an issue and I was just watching HD stuff this weekend. I am on RasSaber ROM, but I never had issue on AOKP PUB, AOKP, or CM10.1 stuff either.
I would bet it is more about how the player is set up, whether using CPU or GPU, and how easily the clock speed for whatever the player is using ramps up.
More or less. Most of these ROMs have the appropriate CPU/GPU drivers already, so your main concern should be making sure that your player is using H/W decoding...and that you've encoded your file properly too.

Where do you download RasSaber? I can only find rasbeanjelly, etc. Is there a thread?
I do not have a link, I am not sure if it is available anymore or not. I am running a build from may 12th, and the latest build I have is from may 28th. You could ask sparksco or Rascarlo if they can give you a link to one of the builds.
Using hardware the video lags more. I tried an mkv file. Can i change any other settings in the programs to make it smoother?
Maybe i will flash another kernel, but i want 1 week to try the stock kernel in order to be able to tell the differences..

Then your player is (probably) badly built. There are really no circumstances under which a S/W decoder should be able to beat a H/W one. I personally don't have issues using MPlayer or stock.
Dice and MX Player. Dice can pla some videos on H/W that MX can't.
I used a few kernels and roms and never had issues with mxplayer. The thing is you have to turn on in options h/w+ (so u have 3 ways to play your video h/w, h/w+ and s/w), then turn it once in top right corner while playing movie. I mostly run mkv 720p files.
Yes i am using hw+ in mx player.. I also use bs pleyer with the neon cpu plugin. I will try another movie and dice player and report.. Thanks.
Edit: i tried dice player and works flawlessly with hw! Also i tried again mx and seems to be working better...

I use MX Player without hw+ enabled on stock, unrooted Android 4.2.2, haven't noticed lag, and I play 1080p trailers all the time. If you really want to stress it, here's a 1440p trailer you can try out (third link, which they incorrectly label as 2560p). That video drops frames like crazy if I don't use hardware decoding, but plays fine with it. Better than my HOX+, which just plays the audio and drops the video altogether.
I wanted to find a video that would actually use the full resolution of my Nexus 10 and that's the only one I found that comes close.
