I am keen to remove the redundant settings in the TouchWiz taskbar - you know, the brightness settings and toggle switches.
From the logic of previous android devices, these settings are an app running in the background. I suspect the app is CP Message. Can anyone confirm this?
Oh man i cant tell you how badly i would love to get rid of the brightness toggle when sliding my finger over the notification bar. it is my most hated feature of these devices. Unfortunitely it is still prevalent even with touchwiz removed.
someone should make a work around, put it in the market, charge $5 and make a living off sales forever.
unfortuniely i havent been able to find any accounts where people have been able to remove it or some of the other redundent touchwiz features.
Why not try switch to a new launcher app, like ADW.Launcher or LauncherPro?

As you probably know, because custom launchers dont modify the taskbar. For that you would need a custom rom.
So far it appears as though custom roms are not replacing the taskbar though. Which makes me one sad camper.

So far there are no custom roms.
What would you call any of the roms that are posted at these forums? Why wouldn't they be called "custom roms"
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I would call them roms for devices that are not the galaxy tab.
These particular subforums currently have have no custom roms.
If you want to be the first to make one, I and many others will be suitably impressed
bump - please move to development shr
So, you know, um, set Brightness to "auto" in Sound and Display and that locks the notification bar invisible slide to brightness feature.
I will say that the TouchWiz notification bar tweaks are one of the big selling points of TouchWiz for a lot of people. No accounting for taste, I reckon.
The xScope web browser can hide the top bar, so it is obviously something that a launcher could do too. I haven't tried with any of ADW.Launcher, Launcher Pro, and the stock launcher...anyone with the patience to go through each of the app settings ?
I really don't think its an app,as all the corresponding immages and control files are in framework...like miui rom or cm6.1...
Is it just me or does touchwiz have better screen responsiveness than go launcher/other launchers?

Touchwizz is much snappier / more lagfree then GoLauncher. It's even faster underclocked to 800 MHz then stock 1,2 GHz with GoLauncher.

Launcher pro seems just as good to me speed wise.

I second this
Go launcher is laggy. Launcher Pro on the other hand is as fast as touchwiz
Go Launcher was laggy on my first installation but snappy on my second installation. I don't know what changed between the two but it was as quick as LP
I noticed this when I tried GO launcher, almost as if when you swipe between screens there is an ever so slight delay, which is not major, can get a little annoying.
TW is slick and super fast compared

What battery icon is that and how did you put it on? I'm still on stock rom with chainfire's rooted kernel.
Cheers

The one on the desktop is minimalist text (for when i swipe the notification bar off).
The one on the notification bar I added using the kitchen app from the market which is for use with the Revolution Rom.
In the kitchen app you just chose a theme/feature, click ok, it downloads, installs and reboots, plus it has many other features in the app like BLN and EDT, kernel change, boot ani change, battery sound on/off, slide glow on/off etc. etc. etc. and kitchen is always being updated.
A great rom and the kitchen app sets it apart

Go launcher Ex 2.53 beta 3 now available here

So why do you prefer the Go launcher over TW?
Things I found I didn't like with GO, the calendar widget on TW especially the month view one I prefer, also mini paper although it works with GO, when you click the plus to add another widget note, it opens TW to tries and add it to one of those screens instead of the Go screen, I use mini paper a lot, best postit note type widget that actually works from the home screens quickly.

I use the memo thing that came with TW the one with the cork background it is really nice.
One of the other nice things about Go ex is that the dock keys can be swiped to give second user defined function, eg open file manager, plus they can be drag and dropped replaced!
Also customisation, icons can be renamed and/or swapped with other icons from other download themes.
I have used both adw ex and LP plus for quite some time, but I really can't see me changing. Even the Go keyboard shocked me with how good it looks and how fast it is, and it has (at a swipe) a T9 keyboard or an arrows keyboard... (iphone theme keys

Your a star thanks
Just installed the ROM. Now just need to try to get Allshare working.....
Cm7 with adwex with some debloating and an occasional cache cleaning... this has kept my phone lag free since my n1 days

TW4.0 is mostly HW accelerated, it runs smoother and consumes less cpu cycles compared to other launchers.
Hmm it seems Launcher Pro is just as responsive as touchwiz. Is there any way to change dock icons for touchwiz? Also is it possible to set the app drawer icon in the middle as opposed to on the right side?
Hi to all
I'm a new owner of a Nexus 7...nice device...BTW...
I don't understand why with a stock JB 4.1.2 ROM, the soft key bar auto hide itself only with the video playback...
if I playgames the bar is always there...
It's a waste of precious pixel for me...in games like shadowgun I always have this ugly bar on bottom...
I know that some cooked ROM has this feature but I'd like to know if I can installa an hack or something to make it avaiable on stock rom...thanks a lot
Oh another question: do you think that it's better to root the device and install a cooked rom like CM or Paranoid? how does it could be better than the stock rom on such a powerful device?
thanks
I don't believe you'd be able to flash a hack to do this because I believe it requires a lot of changes to the framework. Flashing a ROM is great, but not necessary on our tablets since they're so powerful. The only reason why I do it is so that I can get the extended power menu and edit the notification widgets. I also just got back into using tablet mode again on Cookies and Cream.
It won't work, the API for it is designed for videos. If you are playing a game, you will most likely have to tap the screen, whereas when you watch a video, you don't have to touch the screen. Touching the screen enables the soft keys, I think you can see the problem here.
Beamed from my Grouper.
Um take notes from the kindle fire. It has a perfect auto hide for the soft key menus. While in apps, it puts a little tiny tab in the middle edge that when touched, brings back the full keys. Works perfect. This should be implemented in jellybean by default. Wasting screen space is so annoying.
Sounds like a good idea, however it would be a bit different than with video since you are touching the screen. I do find myself bumping the buttons during game playback, perhaps if they instituted a swiping motion to bring it up?
I think in aokp you can completely disable it and use a long press of the power button to access the buttons.

Guys! Just try GMD Gesture from play store and you would be able to hide the soft keys with finger gesture and bring them back when you want them.
Hope this helps!

Just installed the lite version which does not enable this feature. However, it says it will show/hide the status bar... are you sure it works on the soft keys also? I don't want to buy it and find it only works on the status bar. I guess I can also email the app developer and report back.
EDI: Found the XDA thread through the app's play store info... appears to hide the soft keys also. I think it will be well worth the $5. Thanks!
The soft keys are, for me, one of the most annoying 'features' of Jelly Bean. Why waste all that screen space?
There is a reason why nexus 7 is 1280x768 not 1280x720. the additional 48 pixel is for the navigation bar.. Otherwise it won't have16:9 ratio.
I don't mind the nav bar, but I find it wasted space that so few buttons are there. I miss the search button especially... Wish the stock rom was a bit more customizable there. Still, it's a great device overall...

Hi all,
I really want to use the Google Edition ROM on my i9505 - but a couple of things keep me on the bloaty Touchwiz ROM.
1) Touchwiz Camera
2) Touchwiz Video Player
There are other things, but if these 2 were working on Google Edition I would be there in a flash.
Does anyone know if these are working?
The other alternative is to get Google Now 'OK Google' working with my Nova Launcher .... but looks quite far off.
I recently updated to the S5 video player and that works perfectly on the S4.
Any help appreciated.
Many thanks.
I was in the same boat, would like a rom like cyanogenmod but I was to use features like gestures, air view etc and the camera app is way better than the stock app.
Anyway I installed Omega rom which is the same as the s4 stock rom with touchwiz but lets you deselect all the bloatware before installing, so I've got all the samsung features but without the crap. Also downloaded the google launcher which is nice
Thanks a lot. I've used the Omega ROM a while ago, but didn't think about it for this.
Does the Google Launchers allow you to change the grid layout on the home screen? I want 5 columns and 6 rows if possible.

You could use Nova, looks like the Google launcher but way more customisable (you can change the columns/rows), dont think there google now integration on the home screen though.
Another couple of options are to try the AOSP themed touchwiz roms. You can keep all the touch wiz features and have the vanilla android look. Or you can also dual boot a touchwiz rom and CM11 to get the best of both worlds.
Thanks.
I'm already using Nova ... even paid for the extras. What I really want is Touchwiz with the 'always on' OK Google command.
Hey guys for the longest time I've been on aokp 4.3. Can someone tell me which 4.4 roms have the optionsto customize navbar buttons?
I need buttons to kill app, switch to last app, and the tturn off the screen. Thanks
I think almost all of them
