I just got the Note 3 a couple of hrs ago and I noticed I couldn't send an MMS but I could receive one. I created a new apn and now I can send and receive. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem?
I deal with APN related issues about 5 times a day on the Dutch T-Mobile forums alone. It's normal on any smartphone that the settings are sometimes incorrectly inserted by the sim or configuration text.
I always enter them myself as opposed to using the preconfiguration.
Yea I just wonder what was wrong with original only difference was name so idk why it didn't work.

The server looks for a specific access point name, so if it doesn't match, it's not recognized.
Yea I did research and it seems ppl have been having problems with that particular apn. Would have thought they would fix it by now.

I switched to net10 a few days ago and I use text banking pretty often, mostly just to quickly check my balances. This morning I got an email from my bank saying my number was carrier disconnected. I was able to go back in and re-add my phone number and it's working again. But does anyone know if net10 has some sort of issue with me sending and receiving texts from 6 digit number? If this keeps happening I don't think I can stay with net10.
I always get something like that when I change carriers, even though your number is the same (I'm assuming you ported over you number). It should be fine now.

what if i didnt port my number?
So while I wait for AT&T level 3 support to look into this and get back to me, thought I would see if anyone else has seen this issue. I had my original S4 stock rooted since it came out and never had an issue. Night before I was traveling it starts rebooting randomly and when I wake up the next morning it was dead. I was sent a refurb S4 (MF3) and again rooted it, did my usual Titanium freeze of same bloat as previous phone. Things were fine for a week and then I found out I could no longer send or receive MMS. I get an error that it is expired or not available. Spent a few hours on the phone with support, they had me change sim card (I just used my sim with replacement phone instead of the one they sent with it.) That did not fix it. If I power the phone off and back on I can usually get 1 MMS before it fails again. Did a factory reset, it worked for a few test MMS they sent and then stopped working. So they sent another refurb phone. I get it yesterday (MF3 again lucky me) and root it, didn't freeze anything and test it. Everything is working good for a few hours, sent and received like 20 pics to verify it. Then after a few hours, I can no longer send/receive them again. Internet/data works fine on the phone when the MMS issues happen. The MMS issue occurs whether sending or receiving from/to all 4 main US providers so it's not provider specific either.
APN is the default. They say my account is fine. The other 2 phones (S4 and S3 both not rooted) on my account work fine, though they are in a different state than I am. I tested while I was out running errands to make sure it wasn't a tower issue. Tech support provisioned my phone again several times. At this point I am out of ideas. Multiple sim cards and phones and the same issue. Doesn't make sense to me that power cycling or factory reset usually fixes it for a few minutes to an hour and then it stops again. So far they haven't made me go to a service center. Have a feeling if I go there they will try and blame it on being rooted when that isn't the issue.
Any ideas of what else I can try while I wait?

Well it's certainly good you've troubleshooted many different possibilities. Sounds odd to me under the circumstances that the issue persists. I assume you have tried different content when testing these MMs? (i.e. not sending the same picture or message, but different variations or pictures)?
It makes no viable sense why this would be occurring especially based on all of your testing. Does this issue occur only on cellular connection and/or wifi?
Bad SIM card?

With Wifi on or off. Different pictures, different people. Definitely an odd issue.

Tried 2 sim cards so far, have a third here that came with the refurb yesterday so I could always try that next.

Well, i'm certainly intrigued to know how you fix it. Keep us updated.
So I am still waiting on AT&T to actually do something to resolve this. They claim level 3 is looking into it and claim they can't update my case to have level 3 support call me. In the meantime it looks like I have found a workaround to resolve my issue. Currently my phone has the default phone APN. I added a 2nd APN with the following values:
Name: Cingular MMS
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
Port: 80
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS port: 80
MMS protocol: WAP 2.0
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
APN type: mms
I saved it and so far I have been able to send/receive MMS again for the last 11 hours. That is the longest it has worked since I started having issues. Now if level 3 support ever calls me I can tell them what I did so they can try and figure out why the normal APN is not working for me.
I had quite similar issues sending and receiving MMS messages this week, turned out to be Adblock Plus stopping pictures from being sent/received through port 80. Disabled Adblock temporarily, and MMS worked perfectly. Perhaps you are in the same boat? Or maybe another application blocking the ports? Complete shot in the dark here, as I am a very new owner of the S4.

I do (well did) have Adblock Plus installed. Just deleted my workaround APN and uninstalled Adblock Plus for now to test. So far it works, but I will give it a few hours to test some more.
Thanks
Checked out the forums for adblock plus and there are reports of this issue going back to November 2012. Looks like this was definitely my issue.
adblock causes problems on port 80 for MMS, your provider should have a few ports to chose from. Mine being with Rogers, i chose port 8080 in APN settings.
This fixed my issue permanently.
(Rogers had replaced the phone twice thinking it was a hardware issue)
Haven't had this problem before or even heard of it. My phone showed normal data signal all day today, but every app said I had no connection. It even looked like data was uploading/downloading as the arrows were popping up from time to time. I tried a few reboots but still having the problem.
I'm on Vanilla Rootbox, but haven't had any problems until today. Nothing has changed on my phone in weeks.
Any ideas?
those bars arent for data connections, they are for your phone connection. i assume phone calls are alright? have you called your provider to check if they are having data issues?

Well, the H+ and the up and down arrow are for data aren't they?
I haven't called because I'm on AT&T gophone and they don't have much in the way of customer service. They won't help much once they see you're on a Nexus 4, which they don't sell.

the H+ and H show which data network you are connected to. and the up/down arrows show if the phone is(or trying to) send/receive data. neither of which tell you if you are actually getting data flow. normally, you would call your provider in this situation. if they tell you that you service is fine, ask them to refresh your connection.
and the issue of you not getting help because youre on a nexus 4 doesnt make much sense. they want youy to pay for the service, they dont make much money off the phone. but if you feel like that about their service, why are you still with them? there are better companies to use, and are inexpensive.

Well I've dealt with them a few times. That's just been my experience. I'll try and call them. I'm still with them because generally I can figure out what the problem is. In my experience, it's all the junk i've done to the phone, rather than service being down. Thank you for the suggestion.

last month, on tmobile, i was connected to tmobiles towers, bars were blue, not gray(so connected to googles servers), but i wasnt getting a data flow. i called tmobile and they told me that they werent having any issues. so i asked them to refresh my data service. they had me power down for 3 minutes while they disconnected and reconnected my service. once i powered back on, i had a data flow again.
Check to make sure you entered correct APN settings or download a rom with APNs preloaded.

Yes, I just checked and I can access internet via my broswer, although it was super slow! I didn't check that yesterday. So it looks like my data is being slow. I had this problem originally when I had bad APN settings. I do have the correct APNs though. Maybe I need to update them. I'll call for a refresh and see if that helps.
Normally when i boot a rom for the first time data works but is so slow it's unusable also . These are the go phone apns i use to get it working again.
Name Att
apn wap.cingular
username [email protected]
mmsc http://mmsc.cingular.com
mms proxy wireless.cingular.com
port 80
310
410
apn type default,supl,mms
Make sure all other fields are blank this is were the slow data occurs for me if the other Fields have something in them.

Thanks all. I forgot the stupid APNs will work for a few weeks then go to super slow data speeds. I did reformat a few weeks ago and haven't done anything to my APNs. I just don't get why they work fine for a few weeks then slow down. Resetting my APNs to the above should work, I think that's the one I was using before.

For a few days, yes, today MMS stopped working. I'm really confused at why certain APNs will work for a period of time then just stop working. The default APN worked for over 2 weeks, then went to super slow speeds. The latest one I updated too, just above, worked for a few days, not I can't send or receive MMS.
I think the one that worked for me before had 2 setups. One for data, and one for MMS. I'm going to set that back up now.

Yeah try setting 2 apns one for data other for MMS. I've used that method before and seems to work fine. But then again I've never had issues to begin with.

I just tried to send a MMS and I can't send it out. No issue with SMS though. I tested it with Google Messenger and Hangout.
Anyone else have this issue?
Are you on WiFi Calling? Have you verified your MMS settings are correct?
I'm using Textra currently, ChompSMS prior. I set the MMS to "System" instead of "Legacy" and it's working great.
Thanks for your reply. I tried various APN setup and nothing helped, and I'm not on wifi calling either. I finally called tech support, they think the problem is the provisioning on their end. They will try to sort it out and get back to me.
Are you using IPv6? Try changing it to IPv4. Also try to reseat your sim card. Did you change your sim card with the one in the box?

I tried changing to IPv4, that didn't help (it helped with download speed though). I switched from Note 5, so my sim should be okay?! My wife's S7 Edge is okay though. I'll try to clean my sim and see if that helps.
I don't see how it would be a provisioning problem if your sim and account are already provisioned and work in other phones. If you switched Sims then I could see a potential provisioning problem and possibly they'd need to update your sim information.

Back in the day when you registered a new SIM before mms would work you had to send one to yourself for some reason. So try sending a picture from your phone to yourself haha

You got nothing to lose at this point. If it doesn't fix itself by the morning (I don't know where you live) or at least within the next 2-3 hours I would try a sim swap.

I have a similar issues with mms except mine say "downloading" and then "message can't be found." I am coming from an iPhone and switched off iMessage too. I switched SIMs and it didn't help. Idk what's with T-Mobile's network since wifi calling doesn't seem to help either. My iPhone works fine though.

So, after I spend a good hour with T-Mobile tech support, they finally solved this problem for me (and it's easy to fix). The issue is the phone, not T-Mobile network. Go to APN setting page. Click on more > reset to default. Reboot your phone....and that should just fix it. Somehow my APN was messed up and I can't even edit it. So, a quick reset fixed it.
I am trying this soft reset & APN reset to default now. I will report tomorrow if it solves my issues.
My problems is still here.
Have you tried Signal (Snowden-approved encrypted SMS)? Maybe some other texting client?
Got my PH1 yesterday and really do like it. Really struggling with APN settings. I have Cellcom (Wisconsin based using Verizon Network), I put in my sim and change network type to global(I’ve tried most of the other options) I can go into Edit Access Point and modify the majority of the info except APN Type...needing to add mms to the “default, dun, supl” or course that is grayed out. Which results in texts going thru but mms photos and group messages sit and spin until erroring out. Doesn't matter if wifi is on or not. Any ideas?
I have tmobile and can't sent MMS photos or group text. Tried everything. I receive them fine.
I have Verizon and can't change most things. I put in

For MMSC and photos work for me.

Did you already have an existing activated sim that you just popped into the essential? I ask cause I know people were having issues with Verizon not properly Activating a new Sim in the essential phone but if you just took your existing one it mostly worked out of the box with little fuss. I've never heard of cellcom or read of anyone using it before. Sorry if this isn't helpful.
Cellcom (Wisconsin carrier) uses Verizon's network and I have an already activated SIM that works with my Cellcom purchased Galaxy S8+. I pop it into the PH1 and it can make calls and send texts but group messages and photos are a spinning mess and a no go. When I call my carrier's help desk the answer I get is "if its not a phone that we have sold in the past or currently sell it will not work on our network" Then I go to the Verizon site and type in the PH1's IMEI number and get the thumbs up that it's completely compatible. It looks like the only way to get the PH1 to fully work is to root it - which I'm not going to do.
Have you tried factory resetting with the sim in?
