[Q] Testing before buying - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I will soon buy a Note 3, but I saw there are some defective devices around, and before buying I'd like to test it.
My question is : what are the most common quality-check flaws at the moment? Dead pixels on the screen, camera, or what?
Thanks for your time.

Personally I would twiddle with everything as soon as I get a new device. There should be a 1 to 1 exchange period usually too.

Mmh, I do not really understand what the problem with the case is just from this photo. Can you explain please?
Thanks to both for your time anyway

I haven't noticed any flows so far.
One thing I noticed is that the wifi is the weaker than my note 1

former note1 user, now phoneless. what 2 do next?

Hi guys,
I bought the first galaxy note very early last year, i was probably among the first people to have it. I bought it when I was on a trip to europe and just thought it would be better than the galaxy nexus or galaxy s2, by the time I arrived back to my country I realized that I am stuck with this phone and I better like it either i want to or not. So after a whole year of using it, I sold it to an unknown person for a pretty nice price. (I lost the s-pen, and the phone was pretty bruised).
Believe it or not, today I am without a smartphone and LIFE IS HARD! i am carrying this stupid nokia 5800 which fails at everything... so I am thinking should I buy the note2? should I wait for the htc one x+? S3? or should I continue waiting for something else?
Personally and most honestly the note1 was an impressive device, but the size made it a bit unrealistic, people stared at me whenever I answered a call.. and I found it a bit uncomfortable. Other than the size, everything else was good. Today after being without a smartphone for about 2 weeks, I get impressed and satisfied even with smaller screens like the s3 features...
so help your brother here find the right path, tell me what I should do in your opinion
I love the 5800 Xpressmusic (I still use mines as my alarm clock... and it's gone 2-3 weeks without charging already).
Nostalgia aside, if you want a smaller device, go with the S3, if you like the note, go with the Note II, it got a bit thinner and a little longer so, it is *slightly* better to hold in the hand. And yeah, I can understand the awkwardness, but then again, I'm the one who walks around with a Nexus 7 in his pockets
The S3 is pretty much comparable to the Note II except there isn't a stylus, however, if you want a smaller phone, I say wait til Oct 29, as Google has just announced a conference about android they might talk about the Nexus 4 device from LG with S4 Pro, 720p 4.7" screen and vanilla android. If you want a bigger phone, get the Note II.
Like the one above say, Note2 is a nr1 device "IF" you can handle the size.
I think the note2 is more easy use with one hand then the old Note1 but it does not make it a small device tho..

Like the others said, if you don't like how big the note is, then maybe you should go with a smaller size. The note 2 isn't as wide as the note 1 tho. You should check it out at a store to see if its good.

Try the Meizu mx4 or wait for the Xiami mi2.
I'm using the mx4 and I'm very happy with it.
It's 4" sized and thus very nice to hold in your hand.
If you want something thats easy on your wallet try going for last generation material like the s2, which has a similar form factor.

Can u even get those phones outside of china? I would imagine in Amy country outside of china meizu would be served hot on a plate by apple... you think Samsung copied apple... heck meizu got famous for outright doing so.
If not going for Note i would for sure wait and take a look at the new nexus. Even the LG optimus G looks sweet if you not dislike Lg. Or the one i really want to test out myself when it come to my country later on..Lumia 920.

Well seems like Note1 was not good for you, so definitely Note2 is not what you looking for.

Whatever you decide, please get the s3 with exynos and 2gb ram. The i9305. I had a problem with my old s3 where apps constantly had to be bumped off because it was limited to 1gb ram.
Seriously consider the note 2 though. Best device I've ever owned!

If size was an issue the note 2 is definitely not for you.
Wait for the nexus.

Hello,
As you seem to be very concerned about other peoples feelings/opinions and not your own comfort, don't punish yourself and go with the crowd. Buy a nice iPhone 5, nobody will notice you and you'll feel comfortable.
I'm very sorry but I'm astonished every time about these kind of posts; damned you're big boys and girls so make up your mind and do what you want! It's such a personal thing, nobody can help you because you are you and the others are the others....:silly:

I think he is just uncomfortable because when he whips out such a big phone like the note people look at him. It's really is usually big and I get stares too though I don't mind it.

Yesterday I picked up my Note 2.
I was thinking the same thing: A Nexus device that comes out will always get updates a lot faster, and it'll be a "faster" device in general. But then I thought:
Quadcore is NEW and this will last a while on mobile devices.
The Note 2 has 2GB of Ram, which was my first REAL issue with the Note 1
It has an LED notification light
Giant battery
Those are the things I really wanted in my next device! The note 2 fulfills those tasks.
On the plus side of course is the SPen, NFC, and the larger screen. Another 5 inch device would be my only remedy but I didn't see LED notification light and the 2000 mah battery on the HTC version and no SPen. so I said bye bye to that idea! It would be a higher res LCD screen but a lot of minuses in my case (the LED Notification light is NECESSARY for my device now) and then the non removable battery? CRAP! I was on the bus traveling from city to city and my Note 1's battery died, and I just switched it out!
I have 15 days to return it if the next Nexus is a 5 inch device with notification LED, NFC, huge battery & an awesome screen, etc... then I'll change it for the Nexus! haha. But until then, this is a FANTASTIC device.

Agreed. Definitely the best phone ever made... for now.
Frustration awaits, unless Samsung release those sources.
NO CM FOR YOU.
As nice CM is, i would not flash it on my note. As just on note it is the small things that CM should remove i like. I even thing if i had to chose one phone to only use with Stock it for sure should be the Note.
I cant stand stock most off the time but on Note it is doable.

I'm awaiting the shipment of my Note II. I've been without my original Note for a while now as I sold it early so I could get more towards the II. I've been using the S3 which is a fantastic phone. Honestly I loved whenever I'd pull out the original Note and people would suddenly stare, joke, question, etc. People were always amazed by it and I can't tell you how many times I got asked if I could actually use it as a phone. People would end up loving it when I would let them use it for web browsing or something. The original Note really wasn't easy to use with one hand, but wasn't impossible. Hearing that the Note II's form factor fits slightly better in hand makes me really happy. Plus the bigger screen is ridiculous!

[Q] Nexus 4 from Note 2 question

Hi all,
Well, hope someone can give me their opinions here.
I have had a Samsung Galaxy note II for a couple of months now, but I am considering getting the Nexus 4 since I want stock Android and get access to the latest Android updates.
Also, the Note II has been a little big to me.
I heared somewhere that the microphone of the phone is not that good, is this really true?
How do you like the phone? Is this a good choice?
I know that some peole may chooce the Samsung for it's screen, but other than that?
Another thing is the built in battery on the Nexus 4 wich I don't like, but suppose one has to live with that.
Any comments please!
Many thanks!

I had a note 2 before the N4 came out. And for me the note 2 was just too big. I like being able to use the whole device with one hand.
That said. The mic on the N4 is fine when making voice calls. the problem I noticed is when recording video, or using apps like voxer walkie talkie or VOIP apps. Basically anything other than voice calls. I can't explain why, but it just sounds like your always way to close to the mic.
The ear piece has some fuzz sound on voice calls (unless they fixed it in newer revisions.).
I also feel like the signal is worse with this phone. What ever the logistics are it will often go from 3 bars to 1 bar without evening touching it, but doesn't seem to affect the use of it unless you're in a poor coverage area already then it will show no service much more often than my G nex or Note 2 did.
The note 2 has much better battery life because of size and I like that it is removable. I also really like the wireless charging on the Nexus. I miss SD slot on note.
All that said. I still prefer the nexus over the note 2 at this point.

I also had the Galaxy Note 2 and it is a great phone with very good batterylife. But what i like more is the pure android xperience without the touchwizz shell over it, the bleeding edge cpu and gpu and fast updates. Also i like the size and usabilty is better than on th GN2. And since 4.2.2 batterylife has improved a lot. I would recommend the Nexus 4 for daily use and speed and the Note 2 if you like using the S-pen features and appreciate the screen size.
Hi,
Many thanks for your replies!
That sounds good, I don't use the S-pen and it's OK with not using the big screen as the Note 2 has and as i said, want to get the new Anroid updates and I don't know if the Note 2 will be updated to v4.2. I don't like the touchwiz that much either so I can live without it.
How is the loud speaker on the phone then? Is it OK?
Some people have said that this is a downgrade from Note 2, but I don't think so.
Many thanks!
The speaker is okay to me, but I don't expect a lot from phone speakers. Definitely not as good as the note's though.

The Note II will probably be updated to 4.2.1/4.2.2 around Q2 2013 (so that is when the next v. of android will be announced.)

Need fix for my device

Hi all, I've Octacore version from India. Facing few issues listed below. Any help will be great.
1. The ringer volume is low compared to my Note2. Can we boost it.
2. I use Pocket Sensor app which worked great in Note2, and in Note3 it kills my battery.
3. Overall my battery seems draining quick and I want a fix. To survive, I've got my powebank.
4. Is S - View cover worth? It's yet to come to market here.
5. Anyone using Floating Toucher? The response is quite laggy in note3.

1. Yes
2. Could happen

What do you not like about your le max 2?

For me: definately the black borders around the display.
Gesendet von meinem Le X829 mit Tapatalk
No Headphone jack ? besides this, this phone is a beast for the price!
It's pink..... Ugh.
come on - that sort of pink isn't a torture, i like it more and more each day/ i ordered it together with the le eco bluetooth earphones so for me everything is okay... except the on/out switch is (for me) on a strange position... and the "screen flickering problem"
I am totally surprised by the eui (in a positive way) and i think i stick to that - after using cm roms up to cm 14 for years- sorry folks
one cool feature in eui is that you can shut down the phone completely and wake it up again bei schedule. haven't seen this before.
Gesendet von meinem Le X829 mit Tapatalk
Yes - compared to samsung stock roms that are pain in the ass - EUI is just nice and easy
I never stuck to samsung stock roms ,that why i choose cm from the very beginning - but this time - no need for .
This phone is the best one under 350-400 dollar or euro. U wont find a better one, the performance is incredible 159k on Antutu with the AOKP ROM, good display all is fine. I would buy it on and on.
Coming from a Samsung S6, the only flaw for now (for me) is that it's unable to send id tags when connected through Bluetooth.
And a 4000mAh would have been better.
Otherwise, you will never find better for this price.
Ur right, ull never find a Vetter phone for that money
Just the camera... I wish it was at least of Galaxy S5 quality.
My greatest dislike is the fact that 3G does not appear to work properly in close vicinity of an AT&T (and possibly other multi-sector) transmission tower. I can go a few blocks away from one and it works perfectly. It's a fundamental issue that makes it a less capable phone than a crappy old Inspire 4G, which doesn't have this kind of issue.
Outside of that, it's an incredible piece of hardware at great price. But I needed a good phone, not just a great pocket sized tablet computer.
Big dislike:
LeFingerprint - dead
LeDisplay - flickers sometimes
merde!
Gesendet von meinem LEX820 mit Tapatalk
fingerprint - dead
poor camera quality (and speed and focus)
crushing every (stock) phone in antutu except iP7 while staying almost cold for 160€: priceless
The Fingerprint and the official ROM hasnt Multi Lang.
I dont know how to explain but it seems that in Benchmarks this phone is fast like the hell but in some games its not that fast u would expect when u look at 159k antutu score!
And out of deepsleep your FP needs to be "pushed" 2 vor 3 times to relock the phone.
there should be a Nougat rom by now
For me it just needed a bigger battery, sd card expansion and getting rid of those uneven black bezels, the bottom one is thicker than all of the other 3...
wanna laugh?
eui 20s, fresh install.

S5 Mini or S5 Neo - which is better?

Hi,
I currently own a Samsung Galaxy S (yes no trailing number)!!!!
I am looking to replace it with either a Galaxy S5 Mini or a Galaxy S5 Neo, I'm not really sure which one to go for and I hope someone here can give me some advice as to which one is the best phone, from a reliability / performance / ease of use / battery life perspective.
Thanks in advance!!!
Both are nearly the same.
Mini is smaller and Neo is bigger. This is the most difference.
Neo is the newer device and optical nearly like the normal S5. But camera is a little bit under S5.
More mini are out there, they are more mainstream and the community with custom ROMs is bigger. The neo is more seldom and the community support is not so good at all.
Maybe when the bigger neo is more what you want. Look at the normal S5. Big community like the Mini.
In USA it is still one of the most selled smartphone.
My wife uses the mini and I the neo. We are both happy.
That's the difference. How we can help you.
I think, when I had a new choise, I would go with the normal S5 [emoji6]
But I am still happy with my neo [emoji2]

I'd advise you to go with the international G900F. It has the largest developer support and is the most widely used S5 model. But then again, the S5 itself is 4 years old as of now. Try to get an S6-S7 at least, or if you prefer big phones - Note 4 or Note 5.

Thank you for your message, so it sounds like it is more down to personal preference, I was thinking of the normal S5 at first but the fiddly usb cover puts me off a bit, as I want to fit a silicone case and this might get in the way, also I like the idea of not having to rely on a flap to keep it water proof, which the mini and neo are without one.
The USB cover was the reason why I decided to take the Neo.
I like it and it works well for me. Don't need another phone.
If you don't need custom ROM or so, take the neo.
But an Oreo based custom ROM is in development at XDA developers. Just one.

I do like the idea of using a custom ROM, as I want to be able to reduce bloatware and prevent data mining from apps. In an ideal world I would have something like a Saygus V2 (if they ever get produced) or a Blackphone, but with access to normal apps, which I'd like to be able to install but remove the apps' ability to have access to contacts, camera, microphone, etc. I would have opted for the normal S5 (G900F), Just a shame about the flap!

Thanks for your reply, I want to stay away from the hard wired battery models though (call me old fashioned!), which unfortunately means choosing from older phones. I see in your spec list that you have a normal S5, do you find the USB cover much of a problem?

I also don't want to let go of my S5 because of the removable battery. Also i like and use the infrared receiver. The flap is no problem to me... because it broke and i lost it more than one year ago

Ah, they sell the flaps on eBay for not much money, but if the waterproof feature isn't important to you I guess it would be less hassle to go without it.
Any views on the S5 LTE-A (G901F), I know the performance is better but not sure if there are any custom ROMs for it or whether it is worth paying the higher price above the normal S5 G900F?
Cheers, John

Not sure for the S5+ but you can explore around this forum to see if there are any mods for it. Afaik there was one custom rom but again better check yourself as I'm not sure.
