[Q] Can you check your screen for me, please? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so sunday i got my first Note 3. I got home and i noticed that part of the screen was darker (or lighter depending on your perspective). I found this issue on the S4 forums under "yellow tint" name. So basically the upper part of the screen has a yellow tint, and the lower is darker. I got a replacement the next day, but it seems this one is acting up too. To notice it just open a browser page or contact , to have a better look keep the phone in landscape mode and look at the statusbar. It's gonna be gradient. Its easier to spot it in a dark room. I am asking because i don't know what to do, either exchange the phone again or getting some other phone.

I don't notice it on my phone

Didnt notice it before but i also have it on my note.

kaka92 i'm sorry for pointing it out. My first device had this fault and it was very visible, the replacement is better, now i'm afraid of asking for a replacement again, because i might get a faultier device and changing the phone over and over is not fun.

Dont worry Lordbhaal. Im sending mine back it is more visible in different situations. I have paid 700 euro so I will let them take a look at it. If its annoying you should bring it back.

Im afraid ill get a worse one, i dont think ill send it back

Not visible here

Same here, I cant see any differences between upper or lower corner. Screen is amazin, the black is BLACK. When im in a dark rom I cant see the phone screen when i try lcd test

+1..its happen to me too..its clearly can see in this xda app when using darker theme..
Since changing it would not make different..i consider it as normal problem with this product..
To those who want to check their screen..go to play store n download Dead pixel detect n fix (free) 1.82..select color grey..you will see the differences between top n bottom display..

Problem with my SuperAmoled Plus Screen!

When i received the phone today (around 3pm uk time) after an hour playing around with it i noticed 3 dark thick lines on the bottom half of the screen (on a gray background) i thought nothing of it at first and continued to use the phone.
Only just now i thought there must be a problem so i displayed a full white image and you could really notice those 3 thick dark lines. I then changed the screen brightness to max, min then back to auto and it was gone... BUT! when the screen dims a bit just before turning off i can see those 3 thick lines again just for those few seconds before the screen turns off.. it doesnt really effect me but it annoys me that they are there.. plus there might be problems with it in the future. I'm gonna go to my local Carphone Warehouse tomorrow and see if they can replace it.
I just want to know if any one else has had this screen problem.
Thanks.
Do the lines correspond to anything that is on the screen often like the keyboard or some sort of widget you have on your home screen?
These SAMOLED screens suffer from image retention and possibly burn-in. I've noticed it on my original galaxy as well as the Nexus S. As long as the lines go away after a few seconds it should be nothing to worry about. If you notice them there always then that could be a problem... usually the easiest way to see them is on a flat gray background.

oh boy, its too soon to be having any burn in. might be another issue.
my nexus one has burn in of the status bar at the top. and i can see a burn in of my entire keyboard on a white image. after more than a year of using the phone, oh well. but the status bar burn in was there within the first month.

the lines are:
1: just above where the 4 icons are at the bottom of the screen
2: where the page numbers are (dots)
3: just below the other 4 icons (widgets)
Thing is that these lines are solid and have no breaks in them.. so i dont think its the 3 points i gave above this.
I know it's too early for burn-in but some screens (might I say... all?) come from the factory with some sort of flaw. None of them are perfect and most have flaws so imperceptible that most people wouldn't notice. Every nexus S and Galaxy I've seen had some sort of area or line or multiple lines on the screen which were a bit different color, not as bright, or something along those lines. Some are worse than others, and I noticed the flaws right after taking it out of the box brand new. (I've been through about 6 Nexus S's between me and a few friends).
It's not really the same as a traditional LCD/LED screen since there's not a big backlight. Each pixel is individually lit and some may have specifications that are just on the edge of within manufacturer limits. There's almost 400,000 pixels on the screen... the chances of all of them being created identically is slim to none.
If it bothers you I say just take it back and get an exchange, showing them the problem area on the screen. Just hope your new one will be "less flawed" =)

Can you guys have a look at yours?
Just open up a pure white image and check.. if there are no lines wait till it dims the screen and check again... thanks.

well i dont have a good quality camera. You might of seen it before i changed the brightness settings but now that i have its kind of faint and you can only see it when the screen dims..
Gonna go to carphone warehouse now be back later
well before i went i called up all the carphone warehouses near me and none of them have stock.
I was told i only have two options:
1: go to a carphone warehouse and exchange.
2: go to a carphone warehouse and get a refund then order it online again.
So i should get a new one by tomorrow.. or atlest on friday.
no poroblems like that with mine. Screen is freaking perfect. On a side note i liked doing this test because I love staring at the screen.
Drooooool
well.. i went to a carphone warehouse.. and they had two instock. I exchanged it.. screen is fine but.. now after i got home i can see a mark/ dig inbetween the screen and the bezel (where the gap is)
again it doesnt really effect me but god.. now that i know its there.. i notice it so much that.. i might exchange it again Y_Y
This happens to me every single time i buy a new phone >.<... trust my luck!

well well well.
Went to lakeside since the one near me closed at 7pm.
Changed the phone again and this one had the lines on the screen and a dig in the silver bezel. She gave me another phone and the screen was perfect and there are no digs on the silver bezel...
In 2 days iv had my hands on 4 different S2's lol..
Last phone i had i also had 4 of them cause of XXX problems.. thought i was gonna beat it today and have 5 XD
Geebuz wept! I'm getting mine in from the UK tomorrow. I hope for hell sake it doesn't have imperfections. The ship back to the UK would be a disaster and if that one has a dig in the bezel upon return I'd blow a valve!
FINGERS CROSSED MINE IS PERFECT
as far as i know. this is the grid pattern on the super amoled screens. however. because of the poor QA/QC of the screens, some of those grid patterns are more visible than other area of the screen.
the whole super amoled is about lines on a grid pattern. if you notice more deeply, you will see that you also have those " lines " some where else on the screen yet they are not visible as the one you noticed.
i had to go through 4 galaxy S1 to get a good one where the pattern isnt "visible " through the whole screen.
its a defective unit. mainly poor Qa/QC. if you can live with it, it wont do you any harms. or get bigger. if you cant, then change it.
or and make sure you dont have a dud phone with piss poor yellow white on high brightness or pink gray on low brightness. because thats also a defect in super amoled screens.

Who makes the screens

Hi,
I'm just wondering who makes the screens for the Nexus 7. Is it one manufacturer, or more than one? I bought a 32GB N7 a few weeks ago. Except for a little bit of screen lift on the right side, it's been fine. It's not enough for me to return it. But I also noticed that the screen was a bit yellow, with more yellow on the right side than the left.
Anyway, my wife really likes my N7 and her birthday is coming up, so I bought her one from the playstore. I took it out to set it up for her, and noticed that the screen is completely different. This screen is not at all yellow, and seems to be much more even than mine. But I've noticed that when light reflects off of it just right, I can actually see the web of sensors right below the glass. It's obviously most noticeable when it is off, but it can also be seen when it is on. It pretty much requires a light to be shining directly on it. On mine, if I look really carefully, I can see rows of little dots, but no web (not sure that web is the right word. Looks like a web). When off, if I reflect light off it indirectly, the LCD reflects back blue. On mine, it reflects back more greenish.
They both look exactly the same when viewing images. I can tell no difference at all. But like I said, when viewing white, mine is more yellow and uneven.
Anyway, just wondering if there are multiple manufacturers, and if not, what could account for the pretty big differences? As an iPad owner since the first one, I am used to multiple screen manufacturers.
Call the manufacturer ASAP mine had screen lift and i didnt notice until my screen randomly broke one day and the crack was right were the screen lift is. now the lower right portion of the touchscreen doesnt work and im using and external keyboard and touchpad. to answer ur question though i have no clue who makes them.

Is the pink tint firmware or hardware?

I've got a stupid pink tint at the very bottom of the screen and I've had 2 exchanges of the HTC One before exchanging for the GS4 and the network find it hard to believe I've had 3 faulty devices in a row and wont exchange it. Anyways I canceled my direct debit and told my bank not to allow anything from them until they sort it but It's just bloody annoying.
The Three Ones I went through all looked like this http://s16.postimg.org/rz4843lud/image.png and now my GS4 has a pink tint at the bottom, lol, I swear phones are getting worse.
Can't say whether it is h/w or s/w - I know mine doesn't seem to have it ... or it's not obvious enough if it has
But I would recommend not cancelling the DD as it will probably have consequences on your credit rating. Phone companies don't care about you cancelling it as they will get their £££
Does yours have ghosting? When I scroll up and down in menus I notice like the blue bars on the edges of them it changes to a darker colour, you can see it struggling to keep up, even see the old text through the blue bars.

It's commonly known as screen smearing, and we have a workaround for that

My GNex had the pink, and my S4 whilst not pink had a noticeable difference between the top and bottom of the screen. Darker at the top than the bottom.
Had it exchanged yesterday... new device is perfect, just waiting for Samsung to sort the laggy TouchWiz out.
Yeh they wont exchange mine saying I've had too many....... stop sending me faulty phones then.
Anyways wont pay them anything until they sort it.
Just noticed the purplish smearing on dark menus,
Also pinkish blue when popping in and out of the keyboard

I have the same thing, pink tint at the bottom when viewing under lighter backgrounds, it's pretty bad, gonna take it back to my carrier and try to get it exchanged.

Thanks for the response sir. Yes, I've checked your fix methods, tried the first two, but none of them worked. I think I don't have any smearing issue, rather I've a pink tint at the bottom of my screen. So, the upper 3/4 part of the screen is bright, and lower 1/4 part is dark (pink/purple tint). It seems, its a hardware issue, tho i'm running dead pixels app (from play store), which says, it will take 30mins. It is still running, but I guess replacing phone seems to be the only option.

Yeah, thanks for that. I even flashed latest Russian LP rom just to confirm it wasn't some software issue, but even on this ROM, I'm having pink tint at bottom which looks very bad. Anyway, will take my phone to repair center tomorrow, hope they see it clearly, and replace my phone

Pinkish lower left corner on the screen

I got the AT&T SGS4 today and upon getting home I realized the lower left corner of my phone's screen has a slight pinkish hue to it. Is this common and I'm being overly anal and just need to deal with it or is this an actual defect with my phone? If this is something common are there any apps that can adjust screen settings to alleviate this? Is there a screen "break-in" time needed for colors to normalize on the SGS4?
It is a seriously small thing, but it just bothers me and will continue to do so for at least the first few weeks of ownership. Also I have spent 4 hours researching this, but all I can find on the internet are results for the SGS2 and SGS3 and Gnex screen issues, oh and a few threads on the Gnote...in other words the internet seems saturated with Galaxy making it hard to search.
Thanks for any answers.
Bump
I have the same problem the lower half of my screen towards the bottom has a slight pinkish purple tint to it that's only visible in Grey's and sometimes and other types of screens but it's definitely there. And no it is not normal just grab another s-4 and put it aside by side and you will see the difference. Go and exchange it if you can

I came to the S4 after two HTC Ones that both had build quality issues, I'm going to the give the phone a week to "settle" since I am tired of going to the AT&T store and maybe with enough screen on time it can balance out (I don't know, I'm just hopeful). In the mean time is there any app that can be used to adjust the contrast or gamma settings with or without root? I've been trying to find one so I can at least "hide" the screen difference, but so far the only thing similar I can find is "Color Temperature" settings that based upon the threads I've been through are only in Task650's AOKP.
I just checked mine on a white and grey screen and there is a very slight purple tint. I also now hate you for making me notice it because I never did before.
To be honest though it is barely visible and doesn't bother me. Reminds me of the screen lines on the gs2 that I eventually got used to and forgot were there.

Screen issue or is it just like this?

My Galaxy S4 screen is strange. The top of the phone seems to be lighter than the bottom. As in when im texting the and I turn the phone sideways the blue bar that is there is a lighter blue on the left than it is on the right. This annoys me to no end and I want to know if this is normal or not. I also notice this in a ton of other apps when in landscape and it has a bar. Like Youtube.

im terrified to send it back because they will send me an updated bootloader version back.... its not a bad issue the screen still works. its just really annoying. Custom roms and Kernels i will take over anything.

Plus in time (not guaranteed) Usually there will be an exploit hack to get root. I'm sure someones working on something. Especially since some were able to keep root after updating
I can replicate the issue you are talking about in the messaging app. About an inch of the screen at the top is slightly darker. But only noticeable on certain colors. I tried all sorts of pictures and other things, I can only see it in the messaging all. The issue is there with all screen modes.
The S II had a very similar issue. There was a triangle of screen that was lighter than the rest, and under certain circumstances you could see black splotches. But both issues were only apparent when you worked hard to see it, but never under "normal" use.
From what I understand having a little inconsistency in AMOLED screens is unavoidable. I would rather have this issue than the washed out colors of an LCD screen, personally. I would wager the issue is probably there on every S4 if you look hard enough, it was on every S II I ever saw.
The only issue I saw that I felt was worth getting a new device was burn in. On the Captivate it happened after about 6 months, the S II about 9 months. I'm hoping that Trend (each phone lasting longer than previous gen until it burns in) continues with the Note, S III, Note II, on to the S4.

This seems to be a common issue. I'm on my third s4.
Phone 1: vertical lines
Phone 2: pink tint at bottom (screen darker at the bottom)
Phone 3: pink tint at top (screen darker at the top)
You can try exchanging it but there's no guarantee you will get a better screen. In fact you may get a worse one.
The qc on these phones seem to be pretty awful.
If the problem isn't too bad I would just keep it and try to get used to it.
The galaxy s2 had an issue where the left side of the screen had a yellow tint compared to the right side. Samsung eventually came out with an update to fix this issue. Hopefully they do the same with this problem.

Touché - I'm on my FIFTH S4 already. I documented the 1st 3, but I've lost patience now... I don't know what to do further???
http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s4/304256-s4-screen-uniformity-issues.html
This has been common with quite a few of the phones I've had. It's more of a yellowish tint at the bottom. I read that its most likely the glue that they use and that it will correct itself with time. I just never waited long enough to see if that was the case and always exchanged them.
