Hello,
I'm ordering an SD card 64g series 10 right now. However, has anybody got other practical tips to survive only having the 16gb?
Cheers.
there was a 16gb version? afaik there were only 2 models, 32/64 GB...

Hong Kong have been selling them like hotcakes for a while now. I've only been able to get my hands on the 16 gb model. Thanks for your response, but you assisted me as much as a <insert friendly, yet poignant, simile>.

well, you can now move apps to the external SD. That should help. Data will probably remain internal, and if any apps have widgets, they will only work if in the fully internal ram anyway.

I guess I'm a bad manager of space at the moment and will need to improve. My S3 currently has 29GB total space and only 5 and a bit GB Available. Apps 1.9gb, pictures and vids 500mb, downloads 2.5mb, Misc files 3.8gb. I'm using a series 4, 32 GB chip. So I expect that I'll pack the new 64 gb with my pictures a lot of the apps, downloads and (not really sure what I have at 3.8gb ... DAta or ROMS?) Misc files, I should be able to still enjoy the experience, right?
If the Note 3 lags when saving things on Ext SD or if it is not even an option, I'll be a bit miffed. But it would probably serve me right, for being impatient and not waiting till 32GB N9005's reached Mainland China.
I'm using HK N9005 with 16gb (a little sad)
I relief this problem by buying 32gb of external sd
and root the device for mounting internal storage to SD card.
This is no problem
If it saved me 100 bucks, I'd go for it.
I'd do things no different than I do now, on a 16GB S3. All media (films, music, photo's, videos) on a MicroSD, and keep the internal memory for Apps only. Navigation maps and other such massive files also go on the SD.
I have a 32GB MicroSD that's almost full (1.2GB remaining), and internal memory has 8GB free. 202 apps installed. (Downloaded only, not counting stock, that's a total of somewhere in 290, last I saw during OTA.)
I'd live with it just fine, I think.

I notice that all versions I see are only 16 GB of storage. I am sorry but that is pretty damn weak for a tab. The iPad goes to 64 GB.
I heard that there were 7.7 tabs up to 64 GB but haven even seen a 32 gb version around.
Is this something that is just planned for the distant future or is there a 32 gb and up version out somewhere?
Fom what i have seen, only 16Gb models are in stock for now.
32Gb and 64Gb will be available later on I guess.

Yeah, the iPad goes up to 64GB, BUT, the iPad lacks a micro SD slot, AND since 64GB micro SD cards have already been confirmed working in the 7.7, there's your 64GB version right there!
Now... I wonder how much a 128GB micro SD card would be...
the 7.7 comes in 16, 32 and 64 versions
32 is already available for order from Expensyve... i mean Expansys
i'm waiting for the 64 GB version already own a 64 GB microSD so that'll adds up to 128 GB
and if they release the 128 microSD later this year/next year, then i'll definitely get it too and make this device a 192 GB portable entertainment unit ... and work of course... that's the whole reason we're getting it for anyways for "work" file under business expenses

Don't get me wrong, having 64 GB of internal storage would be nice and all, but honestly, with how much of my media I put on the cloud anyway, having a 64 GB external SD card is plenty good for me.
The way I'm set up now, all my pictures and music are stored in the cloud, and I basically just use my SD card for TV and movies.
But everyone is different!
P.S. Where are you seeing the 7.7 as being available on Expansys? Either the 16 or the 32 GB version. Both the US and the Canadian sites show it as a pre-order only (still!!!)...
P.P.S Nevermind, I see it on the UK site. £599 though?! Ouch... That's like $945 USD!! Good lord...

yeah Expansys prices are always over the top vs. other retailers
16 gb = 499, 32 gb = 599, so if and when the 64 gb version does come out i'm sure it's going to be 699 pounds
hoping to find it on other places. definitely not buying it at those over priced prices from expansys

Yes, a SD card is fine, but NOT if you want to use Dropbox, which doesn't work with SD, only internal storage (unless that recently changed).
So yes, I'm waiting for 64GB as well and so far, nothing in Spain

If you root and edit the platform.xml file then all apps such as Dropbox can then write to the external SD card.

If you don't want to root your device then yeah, nothing but the stock apps will be able to save to the SD card. You can still transfer files via MTP, but that's not the same.

Besides that, with the external SD card permissions modified, how can you change where dropbox saves anyway? I haven't found the option in its settings...

The latest version of Dropbox has an option to "export to SD card". It doesn't create its own folders like previous versions but just lets you save files individually in your location of choice.

Yeah but 64 GB SD cards are still a ripoff. When they get down to $59 where they should be then that is a good option. You can get 32 GB for around $30.00 and 64 GB is around $200, that is ridiculous!

Yeah everyone is different and handing control of access to my stuff to the "cloud" is a poor option for me. I am not always connected to the net, and don't want to be just to look at a picture or listen to a song/album etc. I also would opt for a wifi only version as I don't want to pay for expensive 3G service. Plus SD access is much quicker than constantly downloading from the "cloud" and battery life is much better without having the modem radio always on . A 32 GB internal option would be nice for me I just hope it doesn't take them forever to release it.

I bought mine on Amazon for about $150, which yeah, it's expensive, but it's still less than the ~$200 more you could expect to pay for a 64GB 7.7, not to mention that the cost of external memory will inevitably get cheaper anyway. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah but I want the internal mostly for apps and external for data (music, video, pictures etc). The thing I know is that "16 GB" is really not 16 GB. After they get done bloating it up with all of the crap they usually put on there you are lucky if you have 10 GB left.
Plus having 32 GB internal doesn't mean that I couldn't add 64 GB SD later when they get reasonable. More is always more and card swapping sucks (but at least you can do it unlike Apple stuff).

True. However, supposedly ICS will bring the ability to install apps to external storage. If this is the case, then that vastly improves what you can install.
For me, the way I currently run my 7.7, I minimize my internal memory usage by keeping my heavyweight media on my external SD (like movies and TV). My internal storage is almost exclusively used for apps and app data. All of my pictures and music are cloud-sourced, so if any of that is actually on my device, it's because it has been stored in the application cache data. By doing this, I still have about 8GB of headroom on my internal storage (out of the 13GB available), which is still plenty enough for me and whatever other apps I decide to install.
More than anything though, I'd rather have the 16GB model as soon as it's available, and then upgrade it with 64GB of external storage, than have to wait weeks, or even months, for the 32 or 64 GB versions.
I agree, more is always better of course, but I just don't have the patience to wait for it. If you do, then my hat goes off to you!

Well it depends on how long it will be before the 32 GB ships out. If it is like 3 months away or something I would probably bite the bullet and get the 16 GB. All I know is that how things usually go is that I buy the 16 GB THEN they announce a week later that the 32 GB is shipping.
Having a 16 GB version at all seems dumb. I mean 32 GB micro SDs are around $30 and they make money selling them. The actual cost difference between 16 and 32 GB internal chip to Sammy (they actually make the flash memory) is what, $5.00? I would think it would cost more just to keep track of and make all of these different ones.
The GT-6810 (16Gb & 32Gb WiFi) has been available here for a couple of weeks now (Oz). That is when I got mine. No 3G models released yet AFAIK.

UK retailer have them, like Expansys / Hantec / Cloves , etc
So we got official confirmation there will be a AWS 1700 version of the SGS3
however, no one ever reported when we'll ever see the 64GB version.
16GB is like nothing now in days, yet that's the version that most phone carriers are carrying as it's the cheapest one to get.
Since they are opening Samsung retail stores here in Canada shortly, I'm really looking to purchasing a SGS3 directly from Samsung with 64GB and for AWS 1700, or whatever the biggest size they can make for the AWS band.
like Verizion were the only ones that carried the 32GB version of the Galaxy Nexus
agree, now with the quadcore, 4.8 inch display i'm planning on lots of music (maybe even .flac songs) and TV shows that i can't watch at home because i don't have time, a great alternative.
looking also for the 64GB version.

You're given an sdcard slot, use it, no need to pay a premium for a more memory built in when the memory card costs a fraction of the price.
I'd rather make use of the SD card slot, in case I ever need to transfer between devices
Doesn't the expandable micro sd slot support much faster media? I'm gonna slam a 64gb card in there and be done with it. There's no way I'm going to fill 80 gb...
NAND memory inside of phone is the same as SSD disks have, it is faster than SD cards
Will the speed of sd make much of a difference though day to day? You could use the 16GB for your system and apps then use sd for data storage e.g. audio and video. That's what I plan to do, I already have a 64gb sd so there's no point in spending the extra cash on the phone.
I also want the 64gb model. Fed up fannying about with slow external medias and seperate partitions.

I dunno about you guys, but my Samsung 32gb class 10 micro-sd which I use with my GS2(~45gb total ) is faster than just fast enough. And write speeds are in general better than the internal storage. So a 64gb one would make do I guess.
I have HTC Sensation (1 GB internal memory + Class 10 Lexar 32 GB SD) and SGS2 (16 GB internal memory)
HTC is much slower than SGS2 because of NAND internal memory, it takes forever to install games that take like 30-40 MB on it, while SGS2 does that pretty quick

i certainly hope they don't do the same crap they did with the Galaxy Nexus to have everything in 1 single partition just to show people the full size of the internal memory as 1 usable chunk, instead of sectioned like all previous build of Galaxy phones.
i certainly DO NOT want to use MTS to transfer my files, that'll be the worst way possible to handle huge movie files (8+ GB sizes), the bigger the file the slower the copy, the easier it breaks and you have to start all over again

Thanks but I've found in the past some E-Bay sellers list products not actually yet shipping to get their order books full.
Has anyone physically seen an internal 32gb unit?
Go for the one posted in the link. That is where i also bought my phone from and yes he post straight away and it is genuine 32gb internal memory. Very happy with it.
I bought the 16Gb one, i don't need more than that because i dont install much apps and i use a 64GB microsd for my music and media, i had a 32GB S3 but only because i didnt want to experience the sudden death of the 16GB models
I'll ask the question yet again and hopefully people won't push to a link for ebay auctions this time.
Has ANYONE actually seen a S4, in the flesh, with more than 16gb of internal memory. Your brothers second cousins seeing one doesn't count, your link to a seller supposely selling one doesn't count, seeing one at a show doesn't count....touching one with your own hands does count!

Nope.
So there does not appear to be 32GB or 64GB variants of either the S4 or the S4 active actually shipping......
I wonder when/if Sammie will pull their finger out and start? With S4 sales supposedly below target it's the natural thing to do to boost demand although only after the channel has sold through the bulk of its stock.

Hello!
I'm new here, so yeah will be getting a G2 soon!
I live in The Netherlands, and apparently the 32 GB version will become available after the release of the 16 GB model.
So I'm considering going for the 16 GB model, but I don't know if that's enough. How much storage does the ROM take? How many storage is there actually left for the user?
I will only put some music on it, quite some apps and a lot of tweaks.
Should I wait for the 32 GB model or do you think the 16 GB one is fine?
Thanks for your suggestions!

Depends on what you store locally. Personally, most of my data is in the cloud (Dropbox, Box, Play Music, etc.), so I don't require much local storage. On my 16GB GS3, all I had on my external were ROMS, GAPPS, etc., and I never ran out of the local storage on the phone. But I live in an area with great coverage, so I do not need to rely on local storage.

My experience with the Galaxy S4 says: NO! 10 gb will go very fast once you install apps and take a few pictures and videos. And the fuller the phone gets, the worse it will run. I would say that 32 gb is the bare minimum for a phone today.

And yet I always get argued with when I say that buying the smallest storage model and a micro-SD is the smartest choice...

Because there are some things that you cannot store on the external card and unless you're rooted you'll run out of space quite quickly (depending on what you do of course). GPS maps and game content come to mind immediately. I bought the 32GB LTE version so I do not need to root immediately and lose warranty (thanks Samnsung!.....not)

Sure but those aren't universal situations, SOME will need that, but I'd argue the vast majority of people are just storing media and whatnot on their devices. Not too many people are slapping on 25 gigs of games and maps. It's a matter of looking at your needs.

Agreed....but more to the point: Samsung should stop making crap with only 16GB storage when they're planning to use up 9GB or more for the OS and their bloatware AND the real cost of the additional 16GB is next to nothing.
the good thing about win x64 tablets is that they use standard msata drives that are (relatively) easily upgraded and faster than this nand crap. for $100 I could upgrade my 700t to 128gb and have my spare 64gb for backup.

I have a Nvidia Shield that is only 16gb. It does not take but 5 good games to take all of your available storage.

It is true there are many things wrong with the pricing for internal storage in tablets, but luckily Samsung tablets have microSD slots and microSD's are not that expensive.

16GB is early obsolescence and the largest apps, games, at up to nearly 2GB each burns up your internal storage fast and SD card, as of now, is not a 100% replacement. Learned quickly from that mistake with 16GB Note II and Nexus 7 2012 but corrected them with 32GB Note 3 and Nexus 7 2013.

In my unrooted Note 10.1 2014, I have the option to move application content to SD card (in application management in the settings). Is there something more a root would give me than this option?

This SD card is not exactly the external SD card. I have Mizuu and it generates about 500mb. It defaults to SD card. But I look storage, it is in internal /storage/sdcard0 (save in android/data), not in /storage/extSdCard.
So my understand is that SD card mentioned in application manager is still in the internal storage, just in a different partition, very confusing.

Yes, with root you can take a folder from /sdcard and actually redirect it to a folder on the external sdcard......assuming FolderMount or similar will work on the new Note 10.1. Mine is not rooted yet so I do not know whether it does.
Brand spankin' new P600-UD (US version, at least that is what it says on the box label). I have run squarely into /mnt/extSdCard and apps like Kindle. They expect physical SDcards to be at /mnt/sdcard and cannot be changed. For at least 12 months and 1 day, I can't afford to trip the warranty flag. Any workaround to access mount or make a shortcut or fool the Kindle app into behaving?

My take on storage
In Sweden the prices for extra storage very high which is not helpful as there already is a high base price:
Exchange rate: 1 USD= 6.47840424 SEK
25% VAT included
Note 600 2014 Wifi 16 Gb: 739.37 USD
Note 600 2014 Wifi 32 Gb: 847.43 USD
Note 605 2014 LTE 16 Gb: 917.97 USD (This is my unit)
Note 605 2014 LTE 32 Gb: 1 078.96 USD
The fastest 64 Gb microSDXC is the SanDisk Extreme (Plus) which is sold in Sweden for 123.17 USD.
I thought the fastest memory card would give the most benefit but I was wrong since the transfer speeds were much slower than advertised when transferring data to/from the memory card when it is connected to the computer. Can this be due to the MTP protocol?
My advice to you guys is to skip the one I bought and settle for the more cheaper 64Gb alternatives instead.
