[Q] icons too big - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

whilst I like the slimer note 3 it has meant you can only have a row of 4 icons whereas previously you could have 5 - is there a way of making the icons smaller and thus have more icons per page?

Use a launcher and you can have as many as you like and yeah before u ask you still keep all the SPen functionality

You will lose the ability to launch My Magazine by swiping up on the home screen.

Was wondering if any workaround available for "my magazine" app when using 3rd party launcher...

In a number of launchers you can associate gestures with actions.
In Nova Launcher for example, you could associate "swipe up" to invoke the "My Magazine" app.

I'm personally using Nova Launcher, in the settings for the launcher there is a section to add your own gestures. I've just added "Swipe up to launch My Magazine" to the list.

[Q] Hide app icon but keep the app enabled and launch-able?

Is there any app / way to achieve this? There are two many apps that I do not launch on a regular basis which I do not want to appear in the App Menu but keep the app available to launch when required using Swapp or any other Gesture App Launcher like GMD. My Nexus 4 is rooted. I have tried few apps to hide but I am unable to launch them while hidden.

Many third-party launchers have the ability to hide apps (nova, apex, action) from the app drawer. If you wish to run one of these hidden apps, simply search for it-either in the launcher's search or with Google now.

Sorry, forgot to mention.. If possible I would like to avoid third party launchers. I am happy with the stock launcher.

Stock launcher doesn't have this option. If you want to hide icons, you have to get a third party one. Sorry.

Swipe up from any of the three softkey buttons, you'll get three shortcuts, the top one is google now the left one is voice mate and the right one is quick memo, this is how it is on the VZW version anyway.
thanks guys, works on tmo the same way

Touchwiz vs. November & other Launchers

Is the S-Pen or any other functionality lost when a 3rd party launcher is used? If some functionality is lost, what is last? Can you increase the number of rows or columns for icons on home pages with Touchwiz?

My keyboard is too smart for it's own good, I was trying to say "Nova" launcher, not "November". Does Touchwiz allow you to increase the number of icon tows and columns on the home screen?

Touchwiz columns and rows
The hack you are showing me is the only way to have more columns and rows with Touchwiz?
I understand that custom launchers still allow the s-pen functions to operate.
However, will a custom rom say a cm10.1 based rom allow this as well as allow the syncing between the note and the smart watch?
If not, how could I over come this, I want a cm10.1 which allows me to use all the s=pen functions and smart watch functions properly..
Appreciate any help.

maybe what the OP meant is Nova Launcher
I have tested out Nova Launcher for a few days, found one little thing, the write with your pen function on the samsung keyboard makes nova and or the keyboard crash.

Hi,
theres an update for Note 3 keyboard.
go to Google Play and Search for "Samsung Keyboard Note 3" and click "Update"
You need to restart your phone afterwards. Try and report here after.

Magazine UX is probably the Flipboard engine, modified to launch a couple of Samsung Apps.
At least it will look and behave Flipboard-like, which can get annoying soon.

When it was announced M-UX was a replacement UI, was set as the default home page, came with three pages of M-UX content installed out-of-the-box, and had a ton of live widgets and the ability to add a tile (shortcut) to launch any installed app.
From the Verge in January...
The new tablets feature Samsung's new home screen layout called Magazine UX. The layout offers tiles of apps and information that users can customize and configure. Three preset pages are offered by default, though users can customize up to five pages with apps and news widgets. The whole system feels very similar to the LiveTile system in Windows 8.1 and is a bit more approachable for new users than the typical home screen. Ironically, the power users that Samsung is targeting with the Pro tablets will likely find the Magazine UX too constricting and limiting.Since then it's been renamed from "M-UX" to "Content Home," reduced to a single home page that's no longer the default (standard TW is), half the widgets shown at MWC are gone, and so are the tile app shortcuts. My guess is that it's been neutered as part of the cooperation agreement signed between Google and Samsung. Samsung Hub which was a content competitor to Google Play is also now gone on the Pro's.
To your point, what's left pretty much is a more flexible version of My Magazine that allows you to choose and re-arrange what news and social content is displayed on the page. Based on what it's ended up being I won't be upset if our update doesn't include it.

It is, it's in settings, accounts-google, search, and top row is Google now but disabled by default. Could be conflicts causing lag?

Google Now definitely came with my Z2 phone and tablet.
No lagg whatsoever, extremely fast.
It was disabled by default but as soon as you use google search (swipe up to right from home), it asks if you want to turn it on.
The Google now launchervis a home launcher. As in like the nexus 5 homescreen. Or nova launcher etc.
