[Q] Best S4 Google Edition Rom / Kernel..? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Apparently, there is no "best" or "better" rom.
But there are too many to choose from..
Which have the best supporting, bug fixes etc..?
I prefer a "stock" google rom without many modifications.
Thanks in advance!

I suggest the Untouched 2.0 version here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2395030
As close as you're gonna' get.
OF course, you need a 9505 to run it, and nothing is perfect. It still has minor issues, but basically everything works.

How do I make my phone better?

After browsing through most the mods, hacks and updates.....I have know idea which Custom ROM works the best and had a few ideas....
at first i wanted to run these mods....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=326655
then I visited the ROM page and felt like all of them were good upgrades from the stock wing...
so heres my question....If i want to get a ROM do they come with the mods in the link above meaning I'm good
I realize the risk of flashing, should I do it on my refurbished (factory) phone?
And which ROM is the sleekest and stable of all of them
thanks for looking
-Paul
Generally, ROMs appeal differently to different people, so there is no "Best" ROM...
Different ROMs will have different features and functions and so some may include some of those listed in that thread while others may have other tweaks or changes.
I think the best way to find out what you want is to take the plunge and flash a ROM. You'll soon find out what works well for you, although don't get addicted to flashing!
As for this:
I realize the risk of flashing, should I do it on my refurbished (factory) phone?

Given that it is factory refurbished, it should be fully functional and should therefore be upgradeable with no extra risk.

ROM Atrix whith Webtop and lapdock

Please, what is the 4.0.4 rom that runs webtop and Lapdock?
I see many roms but always has some but something is missing, and I wonder what is the most complete and without bugs
Without bugs?? Nothing yet.
Webtop and/or Lapdock?? None CM based support it. Only Blur based rom can use it...

We do not allow best ROM/Kernel threads. The question is subjective. Best advice is to head over to the development section try some out and see which best suits your needs.

Looking for a rom that still has S-Pen functionality but on stock Android?

Hey,
been a while since I been here(from back in the days of my Galaxy Nexus). I just picked up a Note 4. I like it. I somewhat dislike the TouchWiz and hate how out of box it's using 1.8-2GB of ram on start up(assuming because of TouchWiz).
Is there any roms out there that run practically stock Android(pref. 5.0 Lollipop?) but still have the S-Pen suite enabled, including the part when I pull my S-Pen out it notices it and gives me that "Air command" menu.
One last plus would be something that gives me the ability to still use fast charge 2.0.
I looked up a couple of roms but unless I missed something they don't offer these features.
Any help? I have the Canadian N910W8 model and use it on Band 4 AWS/UMTS(3G) and LTE on various freq's so the radio would(should, preferably stay in-tacked)
Thanks!
I don't think this belongs in this section man, maybe ask it in the Q and A. It will probably get moved.
On answering your question, at this stage there is no stock aosp rom that supports spen functions. It's a little bit of a dream for most users. Although I hear that lollipop will be faster than stock, that's what I've read.

That's wrong. There is S-Pen functionality in cm12 at this moment. All you have to do is download and install one or two apps from Play Store. This apps are even free.
It is CM S-Pen en Note Buddy. I have installed them myself and S-Pen does work.
Found this the other day https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.steadfastinnovation.android.spenlauncher&hl=en
Im running cm12 with the following
s pen launcher
cm s pen add on
note buddy
papyrus
this gives me basic s pen functions but is more than adequate for my needs

You are not entirely right either. There are free versions of this apps, but for full functionality you have to pay, not that there is anything wrong with it, just stating the fact. Also you have some s-pen functionality, but not all of it, and in my opinion CM12 s-pen functionality is somewhat less fluent and intuitive then TW one. Regardless, I still prefer CM than TW
I would also like to know how is this thread relevant to Development section

Be careful throwing around the word 'wrong'. I did say as far as I know, just trying to help someone out. There is apps you can use with cm or some other aosp roms, but it's nothing like the spen features you get from within TW. Not that I'm a big fan of it myself, I have quite a few gripes myself, *cough* performance... But for the multi window and spen features, presently if you use them all, TW is it for now.

I have the same phone as you. So far LiquidSmooth and the Unofficial CM-12.0 are the only Lollipop builds that can even use the S-Pen (Unless you know of others). You won't get the TW features of course. I'm very slowly looking into building a AOSP Lollipop rom that is custom built for our N910W8 devices. I've never built my own before so it is a lot of learning.

It *should* be doing that. Unused RAM is wasted RAM. It's caching stuff for speed so that the next time it needs to load up something, it can check if it still is in RAM already. It's not a TouchWiz thing.

You can still install it on other versions of the Note 4. Just expect some things not to work. If your running the CAN version of the Note 4 I don't recommend using LS atm due to very poor battery life on this model.

Not a problem!
Has anyone tried converting all the original s-pen apps to user apps with titanium backup, and then doing an app and data backup of them from the stock ROM, installing CM12, and then try to install them?
I'd try it myself, but I'm asking on behalf of a mate, not for myself. I think there's a possibility that it might work. It's gotta be worth a try..
I've got CM12 on my S4, and it's awesome.

Yes, there is. You can fin it in the Original Android Development section. The maintainer is AntaresOne. He has 2 versions. One is the official nighlies and the other is an optimized version.
You can go for either one or, you can choose one of the other roms based on CM12 or CM12.1.

It's because this forum is not a helpdesk. It takes 1 second to type "Cyanogenmod I9505" in Google or in the xda searchbar. Most developers don't like these kind of people in their rom threads but it lowers the quality of discussion dramatically.
It's the same for the question you asked in the CM optimized topic. It's not a helpdesk and it has nothing to do with that particularly rom. You can easily test which rom is more stable for you by flashing it.

My first rom was the 5.0.1 GPE rom, then tried CM12 Optimized builds, SaberMod CM12 and 12.1 builds and I am now currently running Resurrection Remix rom.
The most stable from the bunch (for me) was the GPE rom. The fastest and smoothest (for me) seems to be Resurrection Remix.
All of them ran stable for me, with no bugs or serious problems that could not be solved.
CM12 has reached a final version. The developer works on 12.1 now. CM12.1 nighlies is the most updated of the bunch.
Now, for the flashing. Before flashng you might want to backup your stuff. This requires root. You can use CF-Auto-Root to do it. Warning: This will trip knox.
Just google search "root s4 cf auto root" and follow the instructions in the thread. CF-Auto-Root does not work with all s4 variants, so make sure you have the right one.
If you don't want to backup anything, then you can just skip to installing a custom recovery.
There are 3 to choose from: CWM, TWRP or PhilZ Touch recovery.
I use TWRP. You should be able to flash it with Odin. Google on how to flash a custom recovery on the s4. Even if they are for different android versions, it's basically the same process.

Use it with KT Kernel. It gives you lots of customizability. You may have a green tinting at first, but this can be easily fixed. Settings > Display > LiveDisplay > Color Calibration and set all values there to 50% and hit Ok. Then just change the brightness so the changes take effect. Otherwise you will have to reboot.
Or you can use it with the default kernel.

Which Rom is good for s4 I9505 and without problems

Plz guys help to find good Rom for my S4 without more problems
you should say more about what you're looking for in a rom. do you want Samsung features and touchwiz or a pure Android AOSP or something more modified like cyanogenmod ?
only a Samsung based rom will give you full features in the camera or MHL support. AOSP and CM will be usually faster and give more free internal space. no rom is going to be perfect though as that is also a measure of personal preference and custom roms often have tiny bugs in them.
usually talk of which rom is the best is discouraged here, we are urged to try some for ourselves and make our own choice...

Lol. Seriously?
What harm does root access and debloated roms do?
It is like blaming the gun and not the person who pulled the trigger when someone is killed. :/
And FYI due to the heavy amounts of bloatware and other unwanted stuff, the performance is slow in stock roms and also not all of them are stable.
