im wondering if i could get the non "raped" version of the 1.5 firmware for my dream and actually have a google phone... and not some half assed rogers mess.
right now i have a brand new HTC dream with 1.5 rogers, build 1.85
easiest way to unbrand it?
I wouldn't exactly call it a mess...Rogers hasn't done a lot to "brand it". 3 icons and a splash screen? I have seen way worse.
But to answer your question, check the developer forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=448
You'd need to root it, then you can flah any Google source based build you want.
You'll want to start here
Don't be doing what is in that link, it involves writing a phone-killer spl to it.
You don't need to change the SPL or radio.
Root it, write on a boot.img with a kernel built from HTC's kernel source, and install your most preferred system.img.

Do you know where we could find this file? Also, if we already installed the danger spl and updated radio how can we go back? My radio locks up sometimes so maybe the new radio for the rogers dream will fix this issue.

Look in the various community builds to see if they mention having an HTC sourced kernel.... if you can't find one, download the source from developer.htc.com and compile it yourself.
As for going back from deathspl, I think I saw an official rogers nbh floating around somewhere... installing that should put the thing right back to stock and shouldn't be much risk of bricking.
I know you might not like Rogers rom,but I'd highly recommend the Rogers rom you can see in my signature,it's really nice, you can remove the Rogers apps, while you have apps2sd and all the goodies. That's the version I have been using for a couple of weeks and is really nice, plus the Hero theme is very nice.

so uhh yeah, after being on stock froyo for a bit and them coming back to cyanogenmod i couldnt help notice the way wayy better reception and all that on froyo. and so i asked a question before about what does that and you guys said drivers and whatnot which im assuming is the "radio" that you all talk about in roms. so is there by any chance some way of getting this better radio on cyanogenmod? cheers
Just flash the latest radio and you're all set. I believe the latest is 7.13.35.05.

That radio is taken from the rom with Froyo released for Vodafone devices.
You probably have already installed it when you have flashed the latest OTA with Froyo. I'm not sure, but I don't think that installing CyanogenMod overwrites the radio installed by the stock rom.

actually now that ive taken a look at my screenshot of that froyo rom ive got in my sig (the one im talking about that i was trying with the amazing wifi reception and all that) the radio is actually 7.05 and that other number in front of it is an older version too. so does that mean the older versions are better or what? i get better wifi reception and all that on an older radio? anyways im sure you see my point, so now im confused lol

7.05? Or is it 7.13.35.05? If you do lurk around more and read through the radio update threads, some people already mentioned they have better reception on older radio. I can't verify that but the latest radio do make my reception better. Or you can try flashing a few radio update and see which has the best reception.

Since we on GB radios shouldnt it be a ICS radio
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA
Since the MT4G isn't getting official ICS, there won't be an ICS radio. Radios really aren't something that can be ported between devices. We know the MT4G is soon getting a small update of some kind, so it's possible a new GB radio will be part of that package.

I might now how he finds them, but I digress. The dhd actual ROM update we could use, as for the radio.img, that's a different story. Our latest radio, is a dhd one, but that doesn't mean the newest one will be compatible with our phone.
Somebody who can unbrick there phone from a failed radio, they would be able to test it for us. I don't know who could do that right now.

The baseband builds in newer phones have nothing to do with OS in any case. There's no "Gingerbread radio" or "ICS radio". The newer baseband build in the OS package is just that - a newer build, not even necessarily a better one. Just an opportunity for manufacturer to update everything on the phone.
The last HTC phone that had the baseband tied to the build (requiring baseband update to use camera) was Nexus One, AFAIK.

The latest radio came from the latest MT4G OTA update from a few months ago. I know this because my friend has a stock MT4G that received that OTA and we both have the same baseband/radio version (I'm running the newest from the radio thread). Not sure what you mean about the latest radio coming from the DHD.

I'm not trying to prove anyone wrong, but if that's true then someone needs to explain why my friend's stock MT4G with the latest OTA has the exact same radio as my phone running the latest radio from the radio thread. That fact along definitely suggests the latest radio came from the MT4G.

Unless HTC decides they are going to build an ics rom for the mytouch (which thus far they have not included the glacier in their update lists) there will not be an "ics" radio. I would bet football works for HTC, he always finds their "leaks" whether or not they are even released.

MT4G was updated and received the same radio as DHD, which was also updated. It doesn't matter which one you'll take the baseband build from - most likely they share the baseband build anyway.
DHD will receive official ICS, which might come with even more updated baseband. Needed or not - pretty sure that it won't be necessary for full ICS functionality, but not 100% sure.
I would like to add something. I come from the inspire/dhd side of things. As mentioned by Jack your latest ota radio matches with our 3.6.405 build radio. I downloaded the radios and compared the md5 sums and they were different. So they are the same base just with alteration for our specific devices
Possibly bootloader signatures? Need to run a byte-comparison to see. If the change is only in the header (first 1-2kB) - then it's most likely the signature.

They might have the same version # but they are NOT interchangeable. If you don't believe flash one through hboot a see what happens
The baseband will be the same since its the same hardware however, the information embedded in the file will be different because of different carriers.
HKM: Do NOT flash any radio.img of another device on MT4Glacier. You will get hard-brick with remotely little to no chance of recovery even with jTAGing since you don't have lld image.

From the development point of view, having 2 builds that differentiate in anything, but share the same version number, is extremely unlikely.
I've byte-compared the radios. There's 1 byte difference in the header, which most likely means nothing since it's in the signature area, and a small (~several tenths of bytes) block of difference at the end, where it again, might nothing (past the actual code block). Which means, in simple words, that these radios have a very high likelihood of being completely identical. Not 100% certainty - since they're obviously not completely identical - but the differences might not be of any significance.
[edit] It also makes good sense for them to be identical. Both phones use the same Qualcomm SoC with integrated multi-band baseband, and the difference between basebands might lie in HW only - like it is between 2 different Nexus One versions. I'm tempted to flash DHD radio just for kicks. Maybe I will one day.

Hi,
Just wanted to see how much interest is there in getting S-OFF for our HTC One phones. I personally could use this for testing Tmobile radios on the HTC Dev Edition phones. What are some of your interest and thoughts about S-Off. Most importantly, why is it important to you?
Interest? Sure. Able to do it? No idea. The HoX is still locked up tight. And for most people, S-Off would just mean easier to flash kernels, ability to flash radios and downgrade HBOOT so that it says LOCKED instead of RELOCKED for warranty purposes.

Most HTC devices now are S-On (at least the recently released ones from 2011-2013). What they do have though is an unlocked bootloader. That means you can install a custom recovery like CWRM or TWRP, and you can flash kernels through Fastboot. S-Off gives the ability to flash kernels from within the recovery (Fastboot requires a USB cable and a computer) and also the ability to flash radios.
With the HoX (HTC One X, and all phones unlocked through HTCDEV), when you unlock your bootloader it will say UNLOCKED (as opposed to Locked when stock). Relocking the bootloader will say RE-LOCKED, but not LOCKED. This means HTC can see that you have unlocked the bootloader and they can, and depending on luck, wil reject your warranty claim.
With S-Off we can overwrite the HBOOT and downgrade to an older version where it still says LOCKED, send that back for warranty and all will be well
Not sure about the Tegra3 version of the HOX, but the S3 version of the HOX has achieved S-OFF for awhile now. There is definitely interest in ALL HTC devices to achieve S-OFF. Just a matter of time before devs crack the code.

its a slight crap shoot, but i live in a refarmed area so it should be liveable until LTE gets turned on.
I usually restrict my current phone (G2) to only edge anyway to conserve battery life
I think the problem with the HTC One X was the fact that it was Tegra and not Qualcomm - most of the major players in s-off work with Qualcomm chips. I remember when I had the One X about a year ago - rumour had it that the likes of revolutionary didn't want to work with Tegra hardware.
Things might be better for the One.
Out of interest did the One S get s-off?
Well with big devs getting it like Steve Kondik (CM) Koushik Dutta (CWM) etc I think the dev support will be strong on this one

Dont need s-off for Radios or flashing kernels through recovery. There is a work around for all of that. We can change radios and flash kernels through recovery on this HTC One. The Renovate rom says the kernel is flashed with the rom install. You can install radios by installing radio to different partition then symlink to the new radio. Turge will be posting more about it soon. For now here is the thread where i tested this for him. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2243159 So we should be able to test the tmobile radio soon enough.
And yeah it's the tegra devices that are having the hardest time with s-off. The ATT One X (qualcom) THe DNA are both s-off. Since this is also qualcom, i have high hopes for s-off soon. Although it is not as important as it once was.

That's not exactly true. Downgrading hboot will still be relocked. There is a "lock status flag" that must be reset in order to become locked again.
S off does remove write protection on mmcblk0p3 where the lock flag lives, allowing the user to reset it and become locked again. User S_trace initially figured out what was going on and posted a flashable zip file. We have modded the zip(removed the device check) and i have threads in several forums, titled [how to]reset your lock status flag if you'd like a little more info/detail. The flag thus far has been the same in all s3 and all dual/quad core s4 devices.
The fact that the radio partition is currently writeable from recovery,is likely a fluke that will be "fixed" with newer hboots,so I'd advise those of you that like this feature to not update
Even tho the radio itself can be chanaged, other firmware cannot. Thus the newer radios may not be optimized with the older firmware remaining on the phone.(read: the new radios may not be working as good as you think they are)
My personal interest in s off is to change cid,and eliminate the security checks that prevent other carrier/regional ruus from flashing, and from going backwards in firmware. I also like to change the splash image
I cannot truly enjoy an s on device, and won't get one unless some means of s off becomes available.

Are you asking how to simply update bootloader and radio, since you are already running 10.1 rom that would be all you have to update. There are toolkits, threads, img files and zips alllll over xda.
May I advise using google and a simple search would give you all you need. Also simply follow a few threads and read whats going on and you can find your answers as well.
But before you update your radio and bootloader ask yourself do I need to do this for 10.2 to work properly?

No you don't. Bootloaders & Radios are independent of the ROM. You can update it, leave it, do whatever you want. It won't affect anything.
Only exception is if you're using a old radio such as .33 and .27 for LTE and you flash 4.3. There'll be problems but now theres a Hybrid radio so that'll fix your problems.

Nooo, sorry about that. I mean that for CM10.2, would we need to update the bootloader, radio or something else for it to work properly? Like with my previous phone, the HTC Sensation, we would need to flash an HBOOT, Radios, and Bootloader that was compatable with ICS roms, or a newer version of the HBOOT, Radios, and Bootloader comparable with Jelly Bean roms. I do understand that they are two different phones, but I'm asking what would be required for me to flash before I install CM10.2 for it to work.

As of right now none of that is needed to run 4.3. There were issues with LTE radios but a hybrid has been put together so thats solved. There are many success stories and people only flashing rom and not having any issues. So as of today my answer would be all you need to do is upgrade your rom. Everything else is your preference
