You need to revert back to you tube old version if you want that functionality, by going to application info and clicking uninstall updates.

S Note does play/import YouTube video. That could be a work around, depending on how you want to organise your video's.

AHaaaa. . Thanks!!

Does anyone know the version that did work with scrapbook before the update. I have 4.0.23 and I like it cause when in landscape mode I still have the slider at the bottom. When I updated to the new version of YouTube it doesn't have the slider.
Take a sec and hit thanks if I helped or if you're in a good mood!

You Tube offline watch it later. Possible ?

The last version of youtube enables the preloading (caching) of all the videos you add in the watch later playlist. But it needs to be online in order to play them, for some crappy reason. Is there a way to bypass that and play all the videos in "watch later" while offline?
Some info on this feature and the crap reason.
YouTube, careful to draw a distinction between this and total downloading of its vids (which breaks its terms of service), is careful to point out that you’ll still need to be online for the first second when you press play.

Guys, he doesn't want a YouTube downloader. He wants to be able to play the video the official YouTube app caches but while offline. OP, I didn't know you could do this, I'll look around for a way.

I can't get on WiFi at the moment but, I'm thinking that YouTube would store the videos on your phone. I'm thinking in the /data partition under one of the YouTube apps folders. I'll check later tonight once I have WiFi.

Just use a YouTube down loader. I know its one extra step but if its worth the extra step then do it.
Use PVSTAR+ as player - it searches and shows youtube vids, and stores them in a cache. You can also copy them out of the cache and they are normal mp4 files. (it also has a mp3 mode, which only downloads the music part it seems). The app also runs in background and with screen off. Completely replaced youtube app with it.
(it also searches on dailymotion and i think you can add other sites)

Launch YouTube app within chrome?

Is there anyway to do this? I don't usually want to watch the video in the embedded browser. I want too use YouTube app. Makes sharing video to tv ect a lot easier.

Clear defaults for the YouTube app. Then next time you launch a YouTube video from the browser choose open with YouTube then, always.

This doesn't work anymore. Clear defaults is grayed out and it appears that the video plays within the browser now. Aosp browser included. Maybe html5?

Mines doesn't. It plays it in the browser, nothing comes up asking if I want to continue in Chrome or Browser or YouTube. Clear Defaults is grayed out. Hmm let me try clearing browser
edit: nope.
Clear defaults isn't grayed out for me. All stock, never been rooted 4.2.1
Mine doesn't give the option to set what to use it always jumps to youtube app, which is annoying, since I would prefer to read comments sometimes while watching the tinny portrait version in the browser..
Clearing chrome or youtube doesnt make a difference for me. 4.2 stock.
Very awkward that we all have different results lol

When I am in mobile chrome site and go to watch a youtube it shows in the browser and when I am in the desktop mode and go to watch a youtube it goes to the youtube app.
If you click the play button it will play within the browser, if you click the title of the video on top it will launch the youtube app at least this is the behavior on mine.
ok so you guys are getting conflicting results opening vids from the browser because your telling the video to play a different way, and also it depends on how the video is coded into the sight. if the website your on has the video embedded and you just click the play symbol on it, it will most likely play in the browser. if you click the youtube link in the bottom that actually takes you from watching the embedded youtube vid to watching it on the youtube website, then it will give you the option to either play in the browser or in the youtube app. also, some websites automatically see that your using an android so they will link you to the youtube website automatically.
I can tell you that regardless of where I touch my original unit. It would load via youtube app and never in the browser. Stock 4.2. My replacement unit plays in the browser.

MX Player?

Hi,
So got my i9505 today, previously had the i9100.
I've got an issue, whereby when I am in a browser and I want to play a video, MX player doesn't play despite being set as the default player, instead it's video player that plays the video.
I've reset defaults for MX and set it as default again, to no avail... I can't seem to disable the Video Player app in App Management as I'm sure that would probably work... I'm guessing I'd have to be rooted... Which I don't really want to do just yet.
Anyone got any suggestions or advice?
Thanks in advance!

Say a video from Facebook will play on MX player. But a video I've found on say pornmd or pornhub in the browser(yeah I watch porn lol) it plays on stock video app, any ideas?

Whenever I go to settings > more > Application Manager > all
I choose video player, and everything is greyed out, can force stop only...which results it starting up again when video is played.
I can't disable it, can't even untick show notifications.

Yeah, just played around with Firefox and Dolphin and they seem to have it as it should be.
So to disable the stock video player, i'd have to root, then I can freeze it?
(rather not really root a phone i've hard barely a day, was waiting for root and customization when I get bored of TouchWiz).

The default browser on the S4 is based on Chrome, not the AOSP browser. That's why flash doesn't work, why clicking two close links shows a magnifier like Chrome, and why scrolling sucks in it.

Only with HD enabled. Unfortunately. Alot of other users (german android-hilfe.de forum) also say that its choppy with HD enabled (D802).
Apparently, it was the same on previous LG Android phones.

Go search smarttube the only downside it doesn't bring up you subscription feed. I connected my YouTube account and add it to watch later and then go on smarttube and they have a section for YouTube watch later
The issue that I have is the quality of video isn't very good. Its not bad until you see text on the screen and its kinda pixelated. Smarttube looks better on HD or full HD. Then my YouTube app

Does the video you tried to watch support 1440p? Search for "2k demo video" or something and see if 1440p is available when you watch one of those.
I did not do anything special it just played search 4k video test you will find a couple great test videos.

Should be by now. It wasn't when the OP was made. I hade it before apk mirror too.
However the OP was to inform people they did not need to do the build prop edit anymore to get the 2k viewing.

New app updated from Google Play worked for me. But it wont work right off the bat. You have to force close app, go to the app settings and clear cache and data. Restarted YouTube and voila! Haven't had 1440p enabled in quite a bit
Anyone Know how to keep video quality at the highest? seems to change between videos. Nothing is settings.
Depends on the resolution the video was uploaded with. Some videos are low resolution, some are high. So you have to check each one. YouTube also streams in a lower resolution to get the video to the viewer quicker. Not everyone has fast enough Internet to stream 4k videos without buffering issues.
