So, now we have the possibility to have custom ROMs, flasheable with CWM. THere are already two guys who have put effort out there, and maybe they'd want some ideas on what you people would like. What do you consider that should be in your custom ROM of choice?
Myself, I would love a Reboot and Screenshot option in the power off menu.
Maybe a minimalist version of 2.3?
I want the touchpads to be able to contol the system/launcher, like the D-Pad cans.
Great question.
I already have reboot options in the power menu of my ROM. Taking a serious look at the Screenshot option. Not many ROMs appear to have it though, but I'm going to give it a shot.
Landscape mode for the launcher would be awesome. I know you can use a custom launcher, but I really like the one that comes with the phone

there was a guy who edited the HomeAPK and made it 3 screens landscape
you can edit the Home through comp. to make it more
The stock launcher, at least in the last build, does have landscape support

USB OTG would be nice, though that would take some work to do since the stock SE kernel for our play do not support it

The one that comes with the phone does have landscape mode.........
1) Auto Brigtness disable
2) Overclock
3) Use the touchpad as a touchscreen emulator (eg swiping on the touchpad is the same as swiping on the screen, great for browsing without touching the screen)
4) Enable the FM radio

+1 for this. The only thing I liked about the Verizon Play is that it's basically running stock gingerbread. Currently, I'm using my custom "hybrid" of r800i rom mixed with r800x launcher/apps. The upside is that I removed all the sony junk and replaced it with stock android apps (dialer, calendar, contacts, etc) while keeping stuff like working touchpad (which failed me in cyanogenmod) and playstation pocket. The downside is that I can't replace the sony lockscreen and statusbar with the stock one. For now, I'm just using widgetlock to emulate it.
If someone can get a working stock gingerbread rom with NOTHING extra (not even hidden SE apps and services), but still have working playstation pocket and touchpads/xperia optimized apps. I will use it.
AndroHero's ROM is certainly in that path.
But really... the stock GB Launcher too? It couldn't be more spartan if it tried...
I took a good run at adding a Screenshot menu item to the power menu but haven't been successful yet. Ends up crashing on boot, unfortunately, so I'm doing something wrong. Not giving up yet though. Decompiling JARs and trying to understand it all is a huge pain in the ass.
I've got reboot options already though along with the ability to overclock and undervolt.
I was looking towards pretty much going as stock Android as possible, but I wasn't sure anyone would want it.
need a 3g and wifi transfer rate in status bar, to make sure all the things running at the background and another app like fpse or psx4droid just for play ,bcz this is xperia play

Vanilla GB Rom, with PSPocket and Touchpads working (which if CM7 did, would be AWESOME)

I can't get reboot in power menu working. Well i can get it to work, but then the power off option reboots the device too
There's also the issue with Recovery just rebooting and not directly starting recovery yet. I'll take a look at what Power off is doing on mine as well.
Power Off seems to work fine for me. Are you maybe running it with the USB cable plugged in?

About the 10 finger touch screen. what would you use it for? i've always wondered this lol.
One thing that annoyed me deeply under Gingerbread was the fact that I would carefully arrange my apps icons along the apps pages, as I needed them to be, only to find out, a couple of days later, that the system "rearranged" some of them by its own will.
I struggled with this a bit and then just gave up thinking that the move to Honeycomb would solve the problem.
It didn't!...I am having the exact same problem with this new 7.7
Is there a solution to this?
It is kind of critical that icons stay where we want them to when their number starts to proliferate...This is exactly the kind of thing that can give Android a bad name, in what respects to user-friendliness......I don't think iOs suffers from a shortcoming as basic as this one...

Are you using a different launcher or still TouchWiz? If you aren't try any of the better known launchers (i'm using Go Launcher HD).

I am staying with TW until ICS comes around...I intend to change it afterwards.
Am I to understand that this specific problem is "launcher-dependent" ?
Thanks!
XK
In my experience, the icon self-rearrangement happened when I go to the "My apps" or "Frequent" pages. In other words, as long as I remain in the "All" page, the icons seem to stay without this self-arrangement.
I use a program called appzorter for this. It works well in keeping the TW launcher and my sanity.

From what i've noticed. The app drawer is part of the launcher, so it would reason why I haven't seen it happen in the other launchers i've tried (I also noticed this in TouchWiz with the Tab 7 Plus I tried before going to the 7.7).
If you are willing to switch to a different launcher after ICS, I strongly suggest you try before hand. If nothing else, it doesn't hurt to try, they can be easily removed.

No, it seems to work ok, under HC...
It sorts out the apps in alphabetical order and further allows to group them into separate "System" and "Installed" groups, if wanted.
For the moment, it will do...

There came a point for me where the app drawer was not useful due to all my apps. Instead I use folder organizer and put my apps in specific folders.
Originally i put those folders on my desktop/docks but realized they were redundant after i added them to a SwipePad panel.
Now my desktops and docks are less cluttered and i only need to swipe in from the side of the screen to get instant access to my apps organized in those folders. I ignore my drawer now.
OK just got my nexus 7 from ebuyer....

Launcher is locked afaik, just get another one.
Get Apex Launcher
man you are another level (hopeless)......=P
im really pleased that the homescreen layout is kept portrait and all the apps rotate, just makes things easier for me
Check the Dev Forum. They've enabled the landscape mode for the launcher by tricking it into thinking it was a 10 inch tablet or by changing the dpi to 170.
I don't know how to change the dpi otherwise I'd tell you but I don't really care about the launcher staying in portrait mode for a 7 inch tablet.
Edit: After an exausting 30 second search there are dpi changing apps on the Play Market. You need *root* though.

WTF!?! Had I known this, I wouldn't have bought it. Now I've ripped apart all packaging, and need to start replacing system software on a new device. I'm amazed none of the testers mentioned this.
Its not a big deal, and if you don't wanna get a new launcher/root then get the Ultimate Rotation App. Its like ~$2 in the Play Store, which is less then the gas money to go return it. It works flawlessly with the stock launcher.

God you are a noob. You wouldn't have bought a device because the stock launcher doesn't rotate. lmfao.
its an easy fix.. just install RotatedHome by doodleapps from the market. Its stock launcher with autorotation enabled.. Works perfect
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Yes, there's a few options for rotating the launcher, check the dev section. Rooting takes 5min (and you can restore it back if you need to return) of your time. And then all you need to do is edit a system file to allow rotation and your done. That said, very strange google didn't include rotation in the stock device - can't for the life of me see how it's a negative, the landscape launcher works perfectly.
I've noticed that some games in the play store mention the the rotation apps interfere with their games - so maybe that's not the best option. This is the method i used, works better than changing the DPI IMO, unless you're set on getting the tablet sytle layout.

Yeah, seriously. This isn't like iOS/WP where you're stuck with one launcher, OP. You don't even need to root or do any magic, just get another (usually free) launcher from the bloody market.
That said, have to disagree with whoever's configuring stock nowadays.
Ultimate Rotation Control.

Hi All,
Now that the KK update is out and installed on all RAZR HDs except for those that are pokey, I thought I'd see what everyone's opinions are.
Try to be a little more informative than "it's good", "I like it", or "it sucks", "I want a different phone". I figured this would be a good place to post up new tricks you've discovered, maybe weren't aware of before actually installing the new OS, and maybe help others discover and maximize the capabilities of the phone now.
DO NOT POST ANYTHING IN THIS THREAD RELATED TO "WHEN IS THE NEW ROOT METHOD COMING"!!!! There are enough threads getting spammed with that nonsense.
I'll go first I guess:
- Liking the extra RAM that has been freed up with the update. About 30-40 additional MB, which in my case with everything I am running every little bit helps!
- Liking that I am now able to take advantage of the KK Xposed modules.
- Thankful that @iBolski pointed me to the new way to hack the wireless hotspot.
- I was toying with the Daydream option in settings, but couldn't get it to work correctly I don't think.
- Definitely enjoying having a 2-yr old phone that is software relevant again. Having unlimited data on VeeZeeDub I like being able to put off outright buying a phone again like I did this one.
- Liking the fact that lockscreen widgets can be posted on the lockscreen, and that a simple swype down from the clock (while using pattern lock method) moves the pattern lock to the bottom and allows the ability to view the widgets without unlocking the phone. Also like that camera is one of the widgets - much easier to get to in a pinch!
- Liking the fact that with Gravity Box [KK] I can use the frosted lockscreen image setting. Have been wanting that for a while.
- Also liking that when music is playing on the phone, the lockscreen image is changed to a picture of the album cover art (not sure if this is a mod I set up in XBlast Tools or in Gravity Box [KK] or something that is standard on the KK OS, but liking it regardless)
...more to come I'm sure!
I love it since I have root.
Things I love:
-Quicker to launch applications
-No lag, or hold ups
-The new pull down menu is a lot better.
-The lock screen and the ability to to take a picture while locked is very nice.
-Battery life seems to be better.
Things I hate:
-Swype is not included and now I have to pay $3.99
Overall, great update!
I concur with Modernmidnights assessment with the exception of Swype. I haven't used it since I purchased Swiftkey. Like that so much better.
My con was the popping noise, but that's fixed now with the fix that @kabaldan gave us. You can get that here:
http://d-h.st/vre
Otherwise, great performance. Lag is gone. Heck, I hate to say it, but I'm getting better performance out of stock than I did with Nexesque ROM and that ROM was great under JB.
Very happy with this release.
is it possible to have google now on this device?
i mean that thing that u say "ok google now" and the phones wakes up and talks to you?
or it is not possible since the hardware is not compatible?

I'm also using Swiftkey, started before Swype was a feature for the AOSP keyboard (at least I think so, else I didn't know how to enable it while looking for it). I have already even deleted the stock keyboard, lol. Come to think of it I remember when Swiftkey added Swype. Was a test of sorts, then it disappeared for about a week, I was so mad I sent a nastygram to them to which they responded that it'll be coming in an update and that it was just a beta test.
Popping noise... mind elaborating slightly? I'm wondering if it's the same popping noise I am getting with autovoice enabled for listening...

Rather than rehash it all, here is a link to a thread I started over in the Q&A forum about it and @kabaldan provided a newly compiled boot image that fixes it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2761162
It seems to affect some, but not all phones, whether the bootloader is locked or unlocked.
My apologies for making you respond, I should have looked harder. Your topic describing the issue was almost right below this thread. I don't think that's what my issue is.
I've noticed many problems with the stock messaging app and with hangouts as well, so many I deleted them both and switched to Go SMS pro.
Sigh, hearing there is another update from Motorola on the way makes me sad, I've customized the phone so much since the update I don't want to go back to stock and do it all over again.

The latest motorola phone can do that because they have a dedicated , very low power processor for it , if we did this on our phone , it would ruin the battery life.
the closest you ca, achieve , is with nova launcher, you can program it to respond to "ok google" when you are on the main screen.

Google Now is already on the phone. Now, if you want it to launch from the launcher, then at this point, no. The Google Now Launcher is not available for this phone (yet).
However, as another poster stated, you can get the latest Nova Launcher and it has the ability to respond to "Ok Google" from the desktop.
Or, if one is rooted, use the Xposed module OK Google For Third Party Launchers and enable everything (all apps, EVERYTHING) within. Now I can use "OK Google" to launch Google Now from any application or screen (except for the lockscreen... still working on that one...)
Took about 5 minutes to go through all 150+ apps to enable them all, but worth it.
Another question for all:
Has anyone tried using the Moto Skip yet after upgrading to 4.4.2? I found the apk online (http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/moto-x-qa/moto-skip-apk-t2416837 check post #4)
It installed just fine and ran when entered from settings --> security, but I haven't actually tested it yet since I don't have any NFC tags on hand. Might see if I can pick up NFC tags to see if it works.
Little by little, changing this phone into a "Moto X Mini" lol. Let's call it Moto X Dragon, it sounds cooler 8) lol

I think personally, the OS is a lot snappier but there are a lot of bugs that are still present in the final release thought, I haven't had the popping noise sound but I have encountered soft reboots when I boot the phone with headphones in, it does lag a little sometimes but that's due to lack or ram. I love wireless printing, and read receipts. Would love art runtime if more apps were compatible with it. I'm just glad to have it. Having an locked bootloader isn't that great, the first Razr Maxx HD I had was and that was lovely, but I digress. Daydream is kind of useless to me. I am a battery converservationists. The multiple home launcher selector was well worth the wait. I can run Nova Launcher or the Google Now Launcher whenever I want to. Another drawback is that I can't write anything to the SD card unless it's with a system app now. Battery life is decent, I get a full day of heavy usage everyday. Which is the reason I purchased the phone, battery life. After a few days of running KitKat the random battery drain stopped for me.
i'm now on JB rooted, and i've change my font to playful. If i update to kitkat, will i lost my font? coz i realy love the font :crying:

No, system apps can't be deleted unless you are rooted. They can be disabled tho, which will remove the icon from the App drawer.
What you did, was just remove the icon from the desktop.
Ahh. Ok, thanks for the response.
I think even though I disabled some of the apps. Some still show up in App drawer. Like Music. I disabled that cause I have 3 freakin different music players. Like why the hell do they do that?
Anyways it's still showing up on my App drawer.
Rooting is really tempting me. Even though this is my first Note and have no experience doing it.

You should try using a different Launcher. Such as Nova or Apex. They have the option of 'Hiding' the icon that you don't want shown in the app drawer. Maybe you should start with that since you are new rooting.
