Has anyone tried WiDi on any of the third party ROMs?
If so please describe the setup used.

Edit:
Bought the PTV3000 to give it a go. Works well on official AOKP nightly - very easy to setup as per instructions included. Slight lag though - will see how this goes watching video later.

Is it just me, or is the YouTube app really slow to load videos? And when I skip ahead or go back, it just refuses to go, even after twenty minutes of "loading".
I went to go to the play store to give a comment that is was being slow, and then I realized it said the app wasn't compatible, and the YouTube app we have isn't the same as the one from the play store.

I have this same issue. Youtube app is so slow in loading videos that it is unusable on my Nexus 7. Using Youtube via browser is a bit better but still way too slow. Does anyone know what might be causing this?
Btw, what do you mean by different app? I think nexus7 yt app is certainly the same app as the one on Play store..
Not for me. Videos start streaming nearly instantly on the YouTube app. I jut tried a random HD video. It started in ~one second. I tried changing the location slider and it responded fluidly.
In fact, this is one of the things I like a lot about the nexus 7.
I have noticed that while Netflix is very responsive its try difficult to get the position slider to nudge just a little forward or back.
Stock, rooted.

That is strange because for me, it just keeps "loading" forever when I try to watch a video (the menus and search etc. still work nice and fast in the Youtube app).
Maybe I should do a factory reset to see if that fixes this issue. My Nexus is stock, unrooted. I love the way this tablet handles but this issue is driving me crazy..

I've noticed youtube videos take a while to start but once they've started there's no buffering issues and skipping to different parts works fine,
It seems Nexus 7 doesn’t like my internet connection / wlan router (Cisco epc3825).
When using 3G connection (using my Galaxy Nexus as wlan access point), Youtube works fine. But with my 40mbps cable connection, it’s a no go.
This sucks, especially since my 1st gen iPad works fine using the same connection. I guess there is no workaround other than to buy a new wlan router - anyone know of one that would work well with Nexus7?

EDIT: I switched to Zyxel router and everything works fine again.
Guys, i had the same problem and i just went into play store and deleted the last update.... There are a bunch of bad reviews for the latest update... Give it a try, it might work for ya as well ^-^
I tested with the stock rom and it loads fast. With custom roms it loads slow. Check it out.....

Will this reduce buffering on the Nexus 4? I constantly have to wait for YouTube to buffer, even on fast WiFi connections. I found this in the GalaxyNote 10.1 forum. A couple posts through someone mentions using init.d to utilize. Will it work for us?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2222747&page=2
Of course all credit goes to kcrudup, I just found the thread.
If your using a rom with init.d support all cm based all custom have init.d support!!

Thats whats i get!!
I'll give it a go in the morning after i've changed roms and let you know. Hope it does though :good:
well I youtube a lot and get massive buffering whenever I turn on HD, it's a total pain knowing that nexus 4 is one of the few phones with HD youtube yet it buffers so much it's actually unusable.
hope this'll help.
It didn't really make any difference for me
precisely why I use tubemate, just download video and go

I got the same issue and found out that the nexus 4 has ****ty wifi drivers.
Having my phone 1 feet away from the router yields me 2-3Mb/s download speeds. My internet connection is 50Mb/s.
2Mb/s is probably not enough for smooth YouTube HD playback.
Did the same test with my Nexus 10, I max out my Internet connection (47Mb/s) and of course, YouTube plays HD vids flawlessly.
Get the speedtest app and do some testing. I bet you have the same problem.
I believe not everyone has this issue and it comes up to what router and what router settings you use.

Who uses this app with there n4? What kind of set up do you use? Do you stream it to your tv? Reason I'm asking is I have been using it for awhile and I most recently started streaming it to my tv. It works well most of the time but I'm trying to figure out the optimal set up.

I steam from my sever using nfs. Have htpcs hooked up to other TV sets so I only really use it on my n4 if I'm in the small room or in the garden.
I currently run the experimental Gotham alpha with the libstagefright as it's the only build that comfortably handles all my 1080 content and anime with ass subs

How do the gotham builds handle HD content? Is it better than the final frodo build? I'm using a xaf custom build which uses mx player as the default video player instead of the xmbc player. With mx I can download a custom codec and I have options to use a HW decoder or SW one. This set up works better than the non custom xmbc app.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
They are similar except the libstagefright build enables hardware acceleration on the built in xbmc player. I only prefer this method over the mx player because the last time I tried a xaf build it would not handle .ass subtitles
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Ok. I will try it out. The frodo build did not have hW exceleration? Also the issue I'm having is it seems like any time I stream a video it starts off fine. Then after so long it becomes choppy. The phone gets really hot and stops charging. I'm assuming so the battery can cool down. I'm wondering if the choppiness is because of wifi issues, or thermal throttling occurring. I want to say it's the latter since the wifi connectio is really solid

I tried the gotham build. It would exit out of the app every time.

One other thing is I'm using cm 10.1. Does rom have anything to do with xmbc compatibility?

i just updated to alpha4 and this build is apparently not working properly on the N4, network shares just crash the app.
so i reverted back to alpha2 which works nicely for everything i use it for
EDIT: Ignore that, i was been a dumbass and had my WIFI off.
just tested and working fine here

im guessing you grabbed a normal build as they do stutter on HD and get very hot very quick (because they are all software decoding)

Well the one I get to work the best is the xaf build. And the SW decoding option seems to work the best using mx player. I did get the gotham alpha 2 to work. Ill give it a test run and see how it goes

I just noticed that all the webserver setup is gone in Gotham. On both windows and android builds.
Thankfully you can still set it up through the XML files
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Gave the alpha build a test run. Watched a couple of episodes of Game of thrones. Each episode I watched froze at some point and ended the stream. Playback was good. Progress is being made. So I decided to reinstall the xaf build and used mxplayer again. Used only hw excelleration . Phone ran much cooler. Had some stuttering but nothing crazy. Might of been wifi related.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Hmm very weird. The only times it has ever binned out of the app for me is when I'm scanning a new source into the library.
Everything else has been flawless.
In fact I'm watching a 720p game of thrones right now and it's flawless for me.
But I suppose if you have a different setup or method of streaming you could be running into bugs that I am not
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
So after using it for almost a week I'm more frustrated than anything. I constantly get booted out of movies or shows. When I fast forward to where I left off they never start. Just stay frozen. Im going between the frodo xaf build and the gotham build as one works better for some streams and vice versa. I use icefilms for most thing s. Is that my issue? It just seems there are so many possibilities and options and I can't pinpoint the issue. Also I'm not tech savvy enough to look into the code side of things. Any suggestions?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Also I'm streaming via miracast to my tv. Could this be an issue

Has anyone found a solution yet or can it be achieved on the Nexus 7, tried numerous browsers without success, don't wanna have to keep restoring a 4.2.2 nandroid backup when I wanna watch football online

You are awesome! Thanks for finding this. I just got my Nexus 7 back from being RMA'd. I upgraded to Kit Kat and yes, this works!!!
You DO have to make sure flash is turned ON and not set to "On Demand" in Dolphin browser.
Also, if you install the Jetpack add-on while having Dolphin browser open, then you need to close Dolphin and re-open it after Jetpack is installed or else, flash videos won't work.
Once I got it all installed, I went straight to Amazon Instant Video and brought up last night's episode of American Horror Story. That is ONE twisted show!
Thanks again for posting this link!
Hi guys, I have small but annoying issue with my Nexus 10:
When watching a video (in any app, including youtube) the audio and the video are slightly out of sync. This is noticeable even for the smallest file and gets a lot worse at 2gb+ movies. I understand the tablet has to cope with this huge resolution but even with 100mb videos? I noticed this on 4.4.2 but it's the same on 4.4.4.
Now, I wonder could somebody recommend a ROM where this issue is not present? I heard SlimKat was pretty good for example but I dont know how it handles video playback.
Thanks in advance

Anyone? I also wonder if custom kernel would help
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Free mobile app
I never had this issue. You could try to use a custom kernel. If that doesnt work I suggest you try out f2fs.

Hmm strange that mine would be different from any other out there..anyways i'll try, thanks for the tips!
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Free mobile app
That is strange. Have you downloaded a video and tried watching it directly from your N10? This would maybe rule out a slim chance of an internet or wifi issue. I only say this because I had a weird issue with my wifi that was causing slow and strange results including audio/video out of sync.
What are you currently running - i.e. kernel and ROM?

Ah yes, also for downloaded files. And it gets worse with larger files.
I'm running stock 4.4.2. Maybe Lollipop will fix it..Btw I've found Dice Player in the meantime, which has audio offset functionality - this was the quickest fix for now

Hi,
When playing some super high quality videos I face this problem too. But on KitKat update and using MX Player SW decoder I can play any file without problems. I suggest you to try it!
