Ok so this is a weird problem.
90% of the time the phone works 100% perfectly.
Sometimes when I try to swipe between homescreens the phone does nothing...its not locked up because the capacitive buttons work, and tapping the bottons on the bottom will let me switch home screens without a problem, it is JUST swiping that wont work.
A reboot of the phone makes swiping work again...any ideas? This is super weird.
Are you using the default Gingerbread launcher? I heard a lot of people were having trouble with that at the outset. Haven't heard as much about it lately, but I'm not sure if that's because it's been fixed or just because everyone's either learned to live with it or switched launchers.
Back when I was using the stock launcher, I experienced that a few times too. I also experienced other glitches and oddities, like difficulty in moving icons on my home screen or sometimes when trying to move icons, they would disappear and appear instead in a folder. Very random stuff. Anyway, the screen swiping issue also showed up a few times.
I've since switched to ADW launcher and haven't looked back.
Gingerbread is glitchy. That much is clear. Hopefully Google will issue more bug fixes soon.
Training am using the stock launcher. I really like the 3d app drawer and it is buggy in launcher pro. How is it in adw?

I find ADW to be thoroughly awesome. You can give the free ADW.Launcher a try, but it's missing a few features that are in the paid version ADWLauncher EX, including the 3D app drawer. Unfortunately, you don't get much of a trial period now that Google has reduced their refund window to 15 minutes, but you ought to be able to test out the app drawer and play around with the other features at least a bit in that time if you want.
I too vouch for ADW. The free version itself is quite an excellent launcher. I used to be an avid LauncherPro fan back on my Vibrant, but on the Nexus S, ADW is smooth as butter. The ability to customize your icons on the home screen (which is only available in the paid LP version) is great too. Virtually no hiccups whatsoever swiping through screens.
Either case, it's tons better than stock launcher.
I have the same exact problem and I'm all stock. I usually reboot all apps and programs using FastReboot from the market and it goes back to normal. I agree that Gingerbread still has its glitches still =[
So if o pay for adw launcher the 3d drawer works fine?

Who knows? Download it and see. All I can tell you is it works great for me.
The stock launcher is buggy as hell. I use launcher pro and it runs flawlessly.

The 3d app drawer (called 4d app drawer in adw) runs horribly on the nexus s. If you plan on changing launchers, adw is good, but the only decent app drawer to select for it is horizontal fling.
Adw holds up relatively well now on the nexus s (ran like arse on 2.3.1). Sometimes however adw will all of a sudden freeze though. You think your phone is frozen but it's not, the launcher has just slowed down to a crawl. The launcher buttons at the bottom work fine when this issue occurs, but swiping of screens will appear not to work.
If you get this problem in adw, you have to go into applications and find adw, then force close it (it doesn't appear as running under task killers, so you can't kill it from there). It will then run fine again. I have had this happen a couple of times with adw and I used to think I had to reset the phone. Was a pain.
The stock launcher problem you have stated in this thread I have encountered as well, which is why I moved to adw. While the stock launcher appears to use acceleration in the app drawer, which i love too, the regular launcher home screens are basically unusable at this stage. I hope they fix it soon, but it likely wont be for a while.
This happened on my G1, my Nexus One and my Nexus S.
I finally wised up and installed LauncherPro (on my N1 and NS) and the problem doesn't happen anymore. In fact, LauncherPro is way faster than the default launcher.
The age-old (and largely pointless) debate between LP and ADW aside, the OP already said LP didn't work well for him.
Hit Menu > Manage Applications > Running > Menu > Show Cached Processes > Launcher > Stop > Home
Swiping will work again after that, until the next time the bug occurs. Quicker than rebooting though.

launcher pro vs ADW?
I want to get something new too but I don't want to customize my phone TOO much because of the steep learning curve and having to remember how things work.
Anyone know which of the two is most similar to the stock launcher?
Hi... I've grouped icons' application in the newly created folder on my Galaxy Tab 7.7, but when the applications in the folder are updated, the icons dissepear from the folder but the applications are still installed when i checked in the applications setting. Is anyone havimg the same problem? Thank you.

known Icon issue in TW launcher
I have had the same issue, you will see the apps in the 'all' drawer but they go missing, as can entire folders of applications. The only solution is to clear the cache of the TW Launcher application. You will lose all the folder that you have set up and some of the homescreen designs, but this is the only way. To do this, open settings/applications/all tab - find TW launcher and clear the data.
I would recommend Go launcher HD - it allows use of most of the TW widgets, and is much more customisable and less laggy. Its approach to grouping icons is better IMHO than touchwiz.
Good luck.
Thanks alot, and i've tried Go Launcher n it's great. Thank you

Thank you so much for this, those lost icons were really, REALLY annoying me. I'll be checking out the alternative launcher too.
I'm new to launchers and I'm giving apex launcher a go. One thing that has been annoying me is whenever I click a notification and exit the app that opens it reverts to the stock launcher. Is there anything I can do about that? Is it the same with other launchers?

Maybe the default launcher is set as to default. Try going into settings and finding the default launcher app and click clear defaults. There should also be an option somewhere in the Apex Launcher settings that allow you to make it your default launcher. That way it'll stick. I've been using Apex on my galaxy SII and nexus 7 since I got them and it's been working great for me so if you can figure it out, stick around for a bit, I'm sure you'll like it.

Thanks for the quick reply. I already have it as default launcher. The home button works fine and goes to apex, its just literally when I've clicked on a notification.

Thats weird, maybe you can try uninstalling and reinstalling if you haven't already. Also make sure you're using the most recent one since anything that is 1.2.x isn't really compatible with jelly bean (the current version is 1.3.1). But like I said earlier, its been working fine for me and I'm sure there would be complaints in the review section in the play store if many others also had this problem so perhaps it just doesn't play well with your nexus. If you're rooted and running custom rom maybe you can try reflashing with a full wipe to make sure to clean up any remaining problems. Thats all I can think of. Sorry I can't be of any more help. Good luck
PS. Nova is pretty good too as well as go launcher so if it doesn't work out, maybe try those to see if the problem continues.
Ah, figured it out. The tablet just needed a restart. It's all working fine now.
Hi there,
Just bought my beautiful Nexus 10 and rooted it only (running stock ROM JB 4.2.2).
To replace original launcher I installed Nova Launcher (free edition) and it works great!
But I noticed a strange behavior, sometimes (randomly) when turning off the screen, and then unlocking the tablet, I get back on the stock Android launcher.
I have to launch Nova.
I checked in Nova settings and it is defined as the default launcher.
I'm thinking about installing a new ROM but if anyone has an idea.
Thanks

Hello,
I would like to switch between several different launchers but I notice when I do this that a lot of times that launchers crash. Is there an app or a way I can make this process easier on my S4 or is the phone built really for only one or two launchers? My primary launcher is TSF which I enjoy but I like the different features and functionality of other launchers. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks
Neil
Questions go in the q&a forum. I was having trouble also on just stock and nova launcher that it crashed so much I just stopped using it. Best thing to do is root and install a custom ROM if your not on MF3 baseband.

On Nova Launcher you can press and hold on the home screen, choose shortcut, then activities. You can then select Touchwiz Home (press it then press the 1st Touchwiz Home (com.android.launcher2.Launcher)). This will create a shortcut on your home screen to Touchwiz launcher.
I'd imagine you can do the same thing for other launchers - assuming one of your launchers has the ability to add activities to the home screens. I'm not sure how differently it functions from just opening the launcher itself...but it works well for Touchwiz since it doesn't actually have it's own icon to use.
