Because I only ever make roms for myself (And share it in case anyone else wants to use it), and this is the latest firmware for my phone.

I just downloaded the files again from PCCompanion and made the FTF file twice. Both times it was 519MB.

Yes, I am doing it the exact same way I have done 100's of times before..
And there ware about half a dozen files. I will do it again and this time just take the 4 biggest...

OK, this is embarrassing. I cannot make this FTF correctly. It is always around 500MB and wont flash. It gives the error
Code:
ERROR - ERR_SEVERITY="MINOR";ERR_CODE="0017";ERR_DYNAMIC=" 0x80060011 ";
I am doing it the exact same way I have done hundreds if not thousands of times before on the Xperia T, Neo and X10. I am using the same laptop as before (Lenovo think pad running win 7). the only thing that is different is that I am using the latest flashtool (0.9.11.0)
I get no errors when flashtool makes the FTF and I get no errors when PCCmpanion uses the files to "repair" my phone.
Here is what I am doing.
1) Running pccompanion and choosing software repair
2) Letting it complete
3) Running flashtool and clicking on tools/seus decrypt/
4) Browsing to where the files are downloaded in the blobs folder
5) Clicking on all the files that it finds to convert them, moving to them to the right pane and clicking convert
6) Letting it complete and then using all those files in the bundle creation.
Like I say, flashtool gives no errors.
If I am missing something basic, please let me know and you have my permission to laugh at me and add to a faceplam thread.
Its really bugging me now though.
Thanks

I got the Z1 today on Vodafone and received a notification of an update to 534 about 30mins ago

All the same as I do except I delete the blobs folder first before updating and unplug the device whilst PCCompanion is downloading the updates. I'm using the same version of flashtool as you with the Z1 device package.
Should all work as you have said, puzzled am I.

Awesome! Can't wait to see where this thread goes!
Has anyone had any luck deodex-ing thes? I only managed to get a few properly deodexed, but none that I wanted. the rest have <EOF> (end of file) errors. my guess is that bak/smali needs to be updated for ICS.

There is no point really. Its proof of concept. SDK ROMs are next to useless.
this might be a basic question since I am doing this for the first time. I have the system dump of ICS and boot.img of my device HTC aria. I have edited the build.prop in system dump and init.rc in boot.img. How can I repackage the system dump that I downloaded with the boot.img that I have?
I used the option "99 - Build rom..." from the kitchen options but CWM fails installing the zip.
can you share info as whatz missing here?

[GUIDE] How to make your regional firmware an .FTF file

Okep. I assume you have the latest FlashTool installed already...
1) Get this (SEUS) : http://www.x-drivers.com/catalog/flash/mobile_phones/companies/sony_ericsson/models/seus/7572.html
2) Flash your phone with the latest software available using SEUS.
3) Go to C:\Program Files\Sony Ericcson\Update Service\db\13740270\blob_fs\
4) Copy the 2 largest files you'll find there to C:\Flashtool\leajian (I assume you created there a folder called leajian)
5) Run FlashTool
6) Click Advanced > Decrypt Files
7) Source folder : C:\Flashtool\leajian
8) From Files, select all (Click & Ctrl + A) and click -> to move the 2 files to Files to convert
9) Click OK
10) Wait patiently till it finishes...
11) From Folder list, select all (Click & Ctrl + A) and click -> to move the 2 files to Firmware content
12) On Device write the model [ex. Xperia X8(E10i)], on Version write the firmware version and/or the Android version [ex. 2.1.1.A.0.6 (Eclair_2.1)], on Branding write the region and your name if you wish [ex. Greek (by Leajian)].
13) Click OK
14) On Device Selection choose the device it is for (ex. E10i)
15) Wait very patiently...
16) When it finishes the .ftf file is located on C:\Flashtool\firmwares
17) SHARE IT ON XDA!!!

It's just a way of keeping a local version of your original phone software..
You can flash it using flashtool instead of having to rely on SEUS..

A tft file.What is it???

.tft file
I had come across mention of this tft file several times here on xda forum.
Now what is actually a tft file.
Does this file really exist. Or is this a blunt and a gross spelling mistake by several individuals here.
If it does exist,Do the xperia models new and old have to use it sometime. When?
If it is a non existence file refferal then there is a problem.
The first time I came across the said file was a refferal to a firmware I was looking for.Later I found out from someone else that what I needed was a ftf file.
Since than on several occasions I had come across the exact same refferal files from others on different threads and devices.
The odd thing about this is,its the older members of this forum who are giving out this refferals.
And to whom?Newbies/noobs.
If it is a genuine file than I would like to apologize to everyone on this forum for creating another uncalledfor thread.
But if it is not, than I recommend that anyone giving information to others, which is a noble thing that you guys do,to please proofread what have been written.
My apologies.

Tft file is file that has the file extension .tft. roms and firmwares have them and they are generally stock rom/firmware. You'll need one, for example "xperiaarcstockics.ftf" when you want to flash it on your phone with the program "flashtool".
Essentially, it is a file that allows you to "reformat" you phone through the program flashtool

Just adding some stuff.
It is FTF file format.
And can be used only to install back STOCK ROM. No custom stuff.
FTF = FlashTool File
Could be ftf., and yes, as mention above.
I had been reading from the posted link but everything mentions about stuff which are not related to firmwares.
The only passage that links remotely to android is the use of Nidesoft DVD to Sony Xperia converter.
And I truly am unclear of the stuff written there.Thank god I am not in your shoes.(Developers)
But why refer newbies to such files in the first place. Why ask them to get this in tft.
I didn't know what tools to use to open such files until jiman mentions about flashtool at the end of her passage.
I've also scouted for a .tft file to try to use flashtool and open it but to no avail.
There is nothing on xda with a .tft file.Been scrolling for more than two hours. just to get a small sized .tft.
Imagine that.

You won't find any .tft file, just because it's clearly a gross spelling mistake as you stated in your first post...
The actual and real file extension for flashtool is .FTF , and not .TFT...
Read carefully what wrote Jiman :
"Tft file is file that has the file extension .tft. roms and firmwares have them and they are generally stock rom/firmware. You'll need one, for example "xperiaarcstockics.ftf"
He made himself that spelling mistake while trying to explain you...
so, long story short, .tft file don't exist in our Xperia world

The link provided is actually quite irrelevant because it's a custom rom as opposed to stock rom which is the one FTF is usually concerned with. Examples of an FTF file -
Xperia Arc - lt15
Xperia Arc S - lt18
The ones provided are quite large in size because it's got the whole 'Operating System' of your phone (So to speak) in 1 massive file which you then 'flash' onto your phone with flashtool. Here's a really nice visual guide as to how to do so
Edit

If you have recovery on both devices you can just backup on one and restore on other device.
You can restore system only without data and apps.
Google for tutorial, if you need ftf and can't do that with recovery.

Hmm...
Really don't know, I guess extracting dump won't help to create ftf.
You checked on NUT thread?
