Google Contact Synch - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using Battery Stats Plus and Google Contacts Synch is at the top of Battery, Wake, CPU and GPS usage regularly. All my contacts are on Outlook so I don't have any Google contacts. I stopped the backup and synch of my Google account except emails but it is still there. Does anyone know what is causing this and how to stop it? Thanks in advanced. Just trying to fine tune this awesome phone.

Calendar not synching?

My HTC calendar widget has stopped working it just shows the "Loading" text and even if you go into the calendar app no events are present. Going to Sync/Accounts and selecting my Google account shows the circular arrow next to "Sync Calendar" - not sure if this means it is trying to sync, but it is there all the time and the arrow is not animated. I don't think this is to do with the Calendar app specifically, since if I use the Google widget nothing shows up there either.
Occasionally, it will work after I reset the phone, but otherwise it is mostly stuck in this state. Any tips on how to diagnose the problem or how to get it working again?
I have the same issue. I found out that when I am also using the Exchange ActiveSync calendar account sync - the calendar's functionality malfunctions more often.
I too have yet to fully understand the root cause for this isseue.
One thing, though, when calendar is stuck in syncing, it consumed a lot of cpu and it blocks other apps from working properly.
I would really appreciate more comments regarding this issue.
Thanks!
Does anything sync and do you ahve the sync service running?
It sometimes works, sometimes not. When it does, UK Holidays, Facebook and my standard Google Calendar syncs, but other calendars on GC do not. They show up on the calendars list fine, but they are not displayed. Actually now looking at it, it seems it may just be loading a cache of previous information, since there's events on the calendar that I've sinced deleted. The sync service I'm pretty sure is running, called Sync and Accounts under OSmonitor? That one's running. Everything else on my phone (Friend Stream, mail, weather) syncs fine, it's just this damned calendar.
I hadn't noticed the Exchange ActiveSync calendar prior to this - it was set to sync even though I don't have anything on it. I have since disabled it and it seems to have improved slightly, but the calendar still shows up calendars list. I've emailed HTC about this, hopefully they'll have some idea of how to fix it.
Ok quick update - HTC emailed me telling me to clear the cache. Having done so (and disabling ActiveSync which I wasn't using anyways) my calendar seems to be working. Anybody with this problem might want to try this and see if it works.
Same as you, I had lot of sync problems with Exchange. It was completely unreliable, until I discovered Laurie's blog !
http://laur.ie/blog/2010/09/exchange-2010-sp1-sync-with-android-froyo/
I installed the Google stock 2.2 email apk (as described in the blog) and after few minutes my calendar was fully synchronized and I receive emails in push. That's great
I am not sure that would solve your issue but it is worth trying it.
(make sure to delete the HTC exchange account).
Hope this helps.

Anyone have issues with Google Calendar syncing?

I have my Google Calendar set to sync.. and I have my Calendar online show friends bdays and they all show up just fine on the website. But it doesn't seem like they sync to the phone. Any ideas why?

I had problem with google calendar updating. In the calendar I would hit refresh with no effect. If you go to the main menu, settings, sync, and hit the gmail sync, I think it syncs correctly then. Since I manually sync all my apps for battery reasons I just put the "sync all" widget on my homescreen and press it when I want everything to update. Hope that makes some kind of sense and helps.

I've tried to do a manual sync as well. The 'Us Holidays' calendar shows up on my phone. But not the Birthdays. I put the birthdays in my Gmail contacts.. They sync to the calendar online without a problem. For some reason they just don't go to my phone
I had this problem with a friend's shared calendar and was able to fix it.
Verify under Google Calendar you are actively viewing that calendar
Under Accounts and disable the calendar sync for your google account
Under Applications, clear data for "Calendar Storage" note this is different from "Calendar"
Re-enable the calendar sync to resync
That should work. If not, try reversing the order. I did it myself, and a friend of mine fixed his phone after i gave him similar directions.

Worked perfect. Can't believe I didn't think of that before. Thanks.
Actually. It worked for some people but not all. So weird.

[SOLVED] Massive battery drain from (exchange) calendar sync

Hi there,
I finally fixed my battery drain problem, thanks to LiverpoolFCfan (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1210184).
The automatic calendar sync tries to get appointments for the birthday entries in the contacts. If the calendar sync doesn't find any matching appointment, it will enter a loop where it constantly polls to find these appointments.
I just delete all Birthdays from my contacts for diagnosis purposes, and now it's all fine
I have less than 1% battery drainage in idle now with push main enabled
Typical indicators:
- sync symbol for calendar (vanishes after some secs) in Settings->Accounts->(Exchange Acc)
- High Usage of "Android OS" and "Mail"(strange, I know) in the Battery Stats
- Battery drain vanishes if automatic calendar sync is disabled
I don't know, if it's only an Exchange Sync Bug or affects the Google Acc. as well , as I don't give Google my contacts' data
Hope this helps anyone.

Huh, good to know. I'll have to play around with it. If it's that big of a problem I guess we can always disable it on days we need the extra battery and stick with web apps/book mark for Calendar information.

[Q] Stuck syncing

If I go under the individual Google account syncing, it shows that my contacts and gmail are constantly syncing. The sync icon doesn't disappear and I'm curious as to whether this is the reason why my sleep time is so bad. Anyone know how to fix this or make it finish syncing?

Anyone else having sync issues?

Is anyone else having sync issues?
When syncing Google Contacts it will say "Sync Not available at this time"
I am getting gmail emails late. Sometimes 10 minutes and other times a few hours.
The built in Facebook app also will not sync with my phone. It won't even give me the option to turn the sync on. I am not getting any notifications for Facebook either.
I just came back to Android from an iPhone and all of this crap is making me think twice.
I don't use Facebook but my phone doesn't seem to be having issues syncing to my Google account. Contacts etc. Are all OK.
If you are at a loss you could always try to factory reset? Bit of a pain though setting everything up again.
Once you get the teething issues sorted I'm sure you won't regret the move from Apple
Google Contact Sync Issues
Did you ever get a reply about your sync issues? I cannot get my Google contacts (People?) to sync over to my Galaxy S7 and I'm about to kill someone...
