Return to older Version from OTA Update. - Moto X General

I just messed with the phone and find a way to return to older version. (Flash with your risk). If you accident update the tmobile version and you want to go back to the older version. there's a way to do(so far it is working my rogers moto x). I am not quite sure it will work on bootloader lock device, please becareful.
1. Grab an FXZ rom that belong to your phone
2. Download the update file from this guy
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45866557&postcount=27
3. unzip that file and replace gpt.bin to your FXZ rom folder.
4. flash the rom from RSD Lite.
5. Should be good to go.
If you get this working, please thx to the one who create that zip.:good:
Oh almost forget , for those rogers user and want to use lte on tmobile rom, replace fsg.mbn on fxz tomobile and flash it then you will enable the rogers band lte(you will still get lte even you do the ota update).

So you are saying by flashing a different fsg.mbn file you can unlock different bands?

That only work if your phone have the band, cause in tmobile ROM, we cant get LTE from their ROM, so I replace the fsg and reflash the the T-Mobile. Then I get the LTE access. That's what I have notice so far, I will try more tomorrow once I have time

Just tried it, and it worked like a charm, thanks op

Do you think this would be the best way to go about trying to see if T-Mobile's AWS HSPA will work on the AT&T model? I'm willing to give it a shot later today as long as I can get back to stock if something breaks.

It shouldn't break, that just enable the band that the phone has. I have tried to flash between Rogers and tmoble at least 20 times yesterday lol

No dice. The radio files flash just fine, but I'm not picking up AWS. I should have known it wouldn't be that easy.

There isn't any modem firmware in those files if you checked. Still waiting for a possible Tmobile modem dump. The other way might be QSPT tool if the phone is detected.

I hadn't dealt with the fsg.mbn file before, but I thought NON-HLOS.bin was associated with the modem?

To be honest I'm not familiar with how moto does their file structure but poking around in the actual device. The baseband is 100 MB, so just judging by file size I don't think those are the actual modem bin files. I tried the T-mobile 4.3 baseband but got unknown however that was from a 4.3 image, so possibly missing 4.3's slightly file structure probably bootloader.

Work on any rom after update... Delete the gpt.bin line on the xml flash files... You can go back without any problem
Anothers things... Rogers baseband are not optimised with tmobile roms...
Battery drain a lot faster... I will wait...

Gotcha. I saw your other thread asking for somebody to grab the baseband, so hopefully you're able to get that.

You can delete the gpt.bin line in the .XML to restore back ? No problems caused by this ? What is it neglecting to do by doing this method ?

Guide: How to flash Jelly Bean ROMs and get your modem working with LTE enabled

OK what you need to do is the following. I will be using Rogers as an example as it is what I am using. I will be flashing the Australian Jelly Bean ROM but I assume this will work with any of the Jelly Bean ROMs. I assume you can take the "modem" and "FSG" files from any of the stock ICS ROMs and simply replace the ones in the Jelly Bean ROMs.
**note that you will require an unlocked bootloader which you can do for free through Motorola, although it voids your warranty**
1. Download the "Rogers" (use whichever ROM is from your provider) ICS ROM from the thread in the Android Development Forum about the ICS ROMs. Download the Australian Jelly Bean ROM (again, use whichever stock Jelly Bean ROM that you want). Here is a link to the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1943879
2. Extract the "modem" and the "FSG" files from the Rogers ROM.
3. Replace the "modem" and the "FSG" files in the Australian ROM with the files you extracted from the Rogers ROM.
4. Extract the XML file from the Australian ROM. Open it in notepad and find the line of text that has the word "getvar". Delete that line entirely from the file. Save it in a new location and then drag it into the Australian ROM .zip file and overwrite the existing file. Save the .zip file as you have now updated it.
4. Flash the Australian ROM using RSD Lite. You will need the 6.1.4 version. Put your phone in fastboot mode by powering down then holding down both volume buttons while pushing power. A menu will come up. Push volume down until "fastboot" is selected then press volume up to choose it. Hook your phone up via USB to your computer and you should be good to go. You will need the latest USB drivers from Motorola. Now open up RSD Lite and flash the Australian ROM.
5. Set up your APN. For Rogers it should be ltemobile.apn. If you google it you should find the details for Rogers.
Good luck! Let me know if you need any more help.
Thanks to o2qc418 for helping me figure this out!
**edit** I just realized there is another thread similar to this! Why his thread title says "upgrade" when you're doing a fresh install is confusing to me. Perhaps have him edit that title and then just keep whichever guide is more clear and easier to use.

It's not an upgrade. An upgrade is when you do an OTA update or flash a .zip for a daily build or something.

The LTE logo shows as 4G. It works fine here for me. Did you test using speed test? It could just be the logo that's confusing you.
There is also a setting under mobile networks that needs to be changed so that you have LTE sometimes.

So I posted a thread here asking for help (the phone was functional at this point) and one user suggested a root method to try out in the comments there http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2379833
After running this root method my wifi is now dead. It's killing me! Someone please help me out here.

Ouch. Your WiFi is broken because he told you to flash a US VZW (XT-907) firmware.
Okay. First, you should try to find a 201M restore file. That will get your WiFi back. Next, since you've got a Dev edition, you can bootloader unlock and install a custom recovery, then flash a root zip
EDIT: Found it

While the link I gave him was unidentified as to warnings to non vzw users (now fixed) , the flashing of vzw sw comes in step 8 clearly he would have had to have pulled it from a xml himself if he even got that far. And if he did it would have been from reading the rzr op. As the bare motochopper has no vzw sw inside.

I didn't get the system img at all. I just wanted to flash the superuser files to /data which I thought would set me up to flash the whole thing with Rom manager.
Anyway, thank you for the help. I am downloading the firmware you linked to now. This guide tells me to edit the XML file and remove the getvar text from it, should this apply here as well? (Edit: Cant post outside links, but I think you get my point)
I'm going to use RSD 6.1.4 to restore the firmware. Any further instructions would be appreciated as I have never done this before.

I am glad SC took care of you & I am sorry I lead you in that direction.
Please fill in some details for others?
How do you have a path to the newer sw? Is it your carriers ota? If you can obtain the same in the xml form there is an easy root using a modded ver w/ unlocked phone. The ota.zip could also be useful if you take it while you have root. It resides in /cache.
Thank you

It wasn't your fault for trying to help, so it's ok. I'm glad a solution existed.
I'm more than willing to answer the questions, but I am a layman here so please explain some things for me: What do you mean by SW? I just installed the update by going into about phone -> system update on Wifi. The carriers here don't even support 3G, much less 4G (So now you know why Wifi was important for me).
The phone came unlocked day one when I bought it from a friend's friend. I don't know if he did it that way or if it comes unlocked because it is the developer edition.
I installed CW Recovery using Fastboot. I installed the incorrect superuser file using Motofail which wrote the superuser file but failed at all other steps. I was then unable to either access or remove this superuser apk file.
Since I am back on 4.0.4. now, what's the easy way to get root access and superuser permissions that you mention? I wish other XT902 owners would post here too, generating interest would really help in getting development support for this phone.

Lol no problem, glad to know it worked. Getting root is actually really simple since you're unlocked. All you need to do is flash a custom recovery and flash a root .zip from there... No exploits required
I can try to write up a guide to that if you want

Once you root on 404 you can grab your update.zip & copy it to your sd . Any rooting exploit would evolve from that Or the newest xml ver of the 404 you just flashed from rsd. You may be able to request it from your carrier.
---------- Post added at 01:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:40 PM ----------
You can paste the mods from my vzw restore (no vzw software will be used) into the 404 xml & obtain root from a preinstalled cwmr! Then maintain root with voodoo for your ota.
I will help you just read the op. Link is in my signature.

I used this one. Why? I saw them posted somewhere else as while while doing a little research on using RSD and saw that the mirrors on that other link mentioned JP in the file name - I have the Japanese softbank model so I figured this was the one specific to my phone. Turned out to be right.

Unlocking different LTE bands.

Hey,
I ordered and received a N9005 unlocked version. I am on Bell network in a city where they use AWS (aka Band 4, aka 1700/2100) and (this is my bad for not checking carefully before ordering) this version doesn't support those LTE bands. It obviously connects fine through hspa+ though.
So, I was wondering, since the hardware actually supports those bands, is it something that a hack could unlock in the future (be able to use LTE with this phone on this network), or am I just gonna have to live on hspa+?
I purposely put this in general as I believe the discussion that this could drive would make it more fitting than in the questions forum if this is a possibility.
Thanks,
Math
N9005 only suppport LTE 2100MHZ IN your operation

LTE compatibility has been discussed in so many threads, you really should do a search before posting next time. If your phone has unlocked bootloader just flash Bell's modem onto it, once it becomes available. Or ask a friend, who has Bell branded GN3 to dump the radio for you, and take the firmware from him. Qualcomm's MSM8974 chip does support all LTE bands worldwide: http://www.qualcomm.com/snapdragon/processors/800

I usually do make a search but through all the threads relating to various questions regarding model variations and other questions relating to LTE, bands, compatibility, my search rendered very little insight to my specific question (although I'm sure it was answered before as you say, I just wasn't able to find it through all the other stuff relating to my keywords). And as you can see from the answer above you, I wasn't able to trust some answers that I managed to find.
Truly appreciate your answer though, Thank you very much and I'm happy to know I'll get LTE again soon.
Thanks
I too am waiting for a modem with 700/1700/2100/2600 on the LTE side. For the Note II this was done using Qualcomm's software to instruct it to use those bands... Rogers, Telus and Bell are all launching tomorrow on October 4th - sometime after then I hope to see the modem online and give it a whirl, but I suspect we might need a QCN file change also.
There is hope!
Got us a little closer: On my N9005 - *#0808# will bring up the Qualcomm USB settings.
On the Note II and S3 this is usually *#7283#
We're getting closer! Those with N900S / N900A / N900W8 phones, feel free to dump your NV Params QCN file now using the Qualcomm QPST Software!
bump!
No real luck yet. I can't flash N900W8 firmware onto my N9005. Neither the whole firmware or just the modem.bin.
Editing the NVParams didn't really work either, as some we tried just get reset to default after a reboot.
I flashed a N9005W8 modem (using dd as root) and unfortunately, it fails to communicate. Baseband shows as unknown. I suspect only a NVRAM dump with removed imei will work. Otherwise modem will need to be ported properly.

bump.... looking to find out how i can pull the modem file out of a specific firmware file, such as pulling the modem file only out of the bell tar file and then making it flashable with odin for my wind phone? i am downloading the whole bell firmware right now and am going to try to flash it on my phone..... i already tried the puerto rico one and it works, but with bell i only get hspa i assume that the bands bell uses are different than the PR ones. i do know that someone has already stated that they got rogers bands with it, but not bell yet, i dont think....

What does that bin contain? Your sayin that is necessary when i flash the modem? When i flash other n9005 modems i dont flash it.
In either case i dont have a copy. Upload and ill try.

Download the entire N900W8 firmware for odin. The modem and many other interesting things are within.
However unless you know something i dont, you will soft brick your phone. Assuming you are able to flash at all. (odin will not reject the rom)

Do you think in the future they will extract just the modem and I will be able to flash that separately? On the S3 I remember being able to flash different modems with the latest CWM.
Right now I have an unlocked n9005 with the Baseband I quoted in my last post. I am using it fine on Rogers Canada lte but in some places the signal is weak and I will lose connection altogether. I was hoping flashing the modem for my provider and region might fix it since the s800 has the correct frequencys for Rogers I think some are disabled or not being used because of software (it was an Asian model I think with a csc for a different region). To reiterate it does work on Rogers I was just hoping I could fix these network drops by flashing a more appropriate modem.

The modem is simple to extract, just untar the odin package.
The trick is actually making the modem boot.
The PBL appears to reject the modem, and thats very bad news for this concept.

bump, is this possible yet?
Just thinking out loud here, but I wonder if flashing the Canadian csc file would be helpful here? In the stainless rom thread in t mobile the op has the Canadian csc file posted. I wonder if flashing that first would allow things to boot with the w8 modem?
I did some thinking, and since you are trying to get a band working that the Snapdragon does support natively, maybe there is a chance. I would hazard a guess here, after some research and guessing, that the antenna actually would work here, so it could, in theory, just be a matter of firmware. Unfortunately the stock modem for the n900w8 may have to be modified to work....Not sure there. But may be an idea to flash the Canadian csc then flash the modem and see where that gets you? Not responsible if your phone bricks cuz I have no idea if this could work, as I said, just thinking out loud
Any updates on this? I too am interested in getting LTE on my n9005.

Thanks a bunch for this. I don't have GN3 yet to try it out, because I'm waiting for 64GB internal storage version to be released, but now I can buy the international N9005 without worrying about the LTE bands, because after I flash T-Mobile's modem those will work. Not sure I'll flash the whole firmware, because it includes T-Mobile's carrier bloatware and I'll be using custom roms anyway, but that modem with LTE bands 4 and 17 enabled is definitely priceless

That's not good. Possible reasons for what you described include:
- outdated Odin
- corrupted firmware image
- locked bootloader
- lack of, or old/incorrect fastboot drivers on your PC
Are you able to flash other images with the same Odin? Have you checked if there is a newer version of Odin available? Is your bootloader unlocked? How about fastboot drivers?
I'd check those things and try again. If you're trying to flash modem only make sure you select "Phone" in Odin, not "PDA"
Sorry for sounding dumb and being slightly off topic. I was under the impression the n900t and n900a have different radios. Since reading your thread I get the assumption it is only software which enables or disables certain frequencies?
thanks.
- ODIN is up to date
- Firmware is not corrupt, its a raw modem.bin file put into the Phone section
- Drivers are fine.
When my phone is in download mode it says: Qualcomm Secure Boot: Enabled (CSB). So my guess is it only accepts signed software? How was I able to root it then with ease?

You have a locked bootloader. Locked bootloaders do not always prevent you from rooting - it depends on the root exploit. Your bootloader checks for signatures for all firmware images you attempt to flash to any partition, such as system, recovery, boot, modem, etc.

Qualcomm's MSM8947 SoC (Snapdragon 800) supports all 41 LTE frequencies worldwide. It only depends on the firmware, which bands are enabled in the baseband of your radio.

Get a phone with unlocked bootloader, or wait until an exploit is found and someone on XDA comes up with an unlock method. I wouldnt get my hopes up though - Galaxy S'4 bootloader on AT&T and Verizon is still locked...
So I've tried to make my own update.zip file to flash with CWM but no such luck. Not sure what I am doing wrong... It looks like everything went well and I do see done at the end of things...

Probably not. If it's been done then it's a secret from XDA. The common wisdom is just to buy the TMO version with all the bands available, or live without LTE.

Have a Google Edition M8? Look here before you do ANYTHING to it!

As any of you who have the m7 know, I created the ruu to convert a sense m7 to a gpe edition complete with ota's. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2358781
We would like to get all the partitions dumped so that we can use the images to fully convert our normal M8's into full fledged Google Edition Ones.
Before you do ANYTHING with it (before you root, before you flash a recovery etc...) Follow these directions courtesy of cschmitt Found Here This will ensure we get all the partitions
I have pasted the steps below. This will help the community out greatly!
script that uses adb to dump and pull every partition from a One, excluding cache (meaningless) and userdata (to large).
He would need adb and fastboot on his computer, no need for S-off, since we are only reading partitions.
Generally the process would be:
Download a recovery from here: DO NOT FLASH! just download it for now..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2698134
Enable USB Developer options and USB debugging on phone.
Connect phone to usb, install drivers from zip folder if prompted.
Copy SuperSU-v1.41.zip to sd card. (outdated just download the latest from here: http://download.chainfire.eu/396/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.94.zip)
Reboot into bootloader. (Power off, hold power on an vol-down.)
Open command prompt into \htconedump folder.
Unlock bootloader, fastboot oem unlock should do it.
Reboot back into bootloader (via hboot menu.)
From command prompt:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot boot openrecovery-twrp-2.7.0.3-m8_ul_ca.img (Take note we are not flashing recovery, just booting into it so we can root. If you flash the recovery we will not be able to get the stock GE recovery pulled)
Once TWRP boots,
do a backup of system, boot and recovery (make sure recovery is ticked as it's usually not) untick data (we don't need it for this)
Now lets see if we have root access in recovery.... While still in recovery open up a command prompt on your computer and type "adb shell" without the quotes.. then if it detects the device type "su" your prompt should change from a $ to a #
if that doesn't work then just contact me and we will figure it out if all fails we can just flash super su and then pull the partitions that way and I can just unroot the system partition before I do the conversion
flash SuperSU-v1.41.zip via TWRP to root device.
If you did get root access at the shell now run this:
Run pullmmc01-37.cmd command script from a windows command prompt.
Zip up the dump directory containing all of the mmcblk0p??.bin files.
I've packaged everything up into a zip file containing ADB, fastboot, HTC drivers, superuser.zip, TWRP image, and the pullmmc01-37.cmd command script.
LINK to download DUMP script. This will dump every partition except userdata and cache (paritions mmcblk0p01-mmcblk0p45, 46 and 47 are cache and userdata)
http://d-h.st/aAg
Also make sure to take note of your CID in the bootloader and also report that in this thread. You can get this by running fastboot getvar all while in the bootloader. The MID and the CID will be listed. Please make note of both.
I would advise anyone doing it that they do it without fully setting up the phone because once you unlock the bootloader it will wipe your data. So boot into android and just skip through the whole set up process because you'll just have to do it again after you unlock the bootloader
