When I get a text, it doesnt show the message in the drop down notification bar, just the word 'message'
When your in your inbox press the settings key then press settings, press the right hand tab labelled "more" and just before the bottom there is an option for "preview message" Tick this and you should be good to go.

Is there any way to get it to show on the status bar but not the lock screen?

I am trying to send text messages using my XDA IIs and things are not working. When I select "to" in the outlook window, "my contacts" list shows up, I then select a contact, but the list remains on the screen preventing any text entry. Any ideas?
Press the little "contacts" icon to the right of My Text at the bottom of the screen, this puts the contacts list away (or pops it up).
Thanks mate, so simple.
The stupid "Trying to Connect" bubble keeps coming up when I am in remote areas, which blocks my view of the screen so I can't see my GPS. Well, I'm glad it's trying to connect and will be glad if it can. But I really don't need to know about it. Any help?
Go to Start --> Settings --> Sounds & Notifications
Choose Notifications tab
From the Event drop down box choose "Connection established"
Take the tick out of "Display Message on screen"
Press OK
That should do it.

OK, that was a little too obvious. Thanks!
How can I disable the "internet explorer" popup, which shows up when opening an email?

Specify more closely, don't know about any pop ups when opening my emails..

it's a small popup screen which also is activated when I want
to open an email in TF3D. Then it hides in taskmanager (upper
right corner) until I tap it. After this I am able to read the
mail. It's some sort of confirmation message popup and wants me
to press ok. My rom is an original dutch 1.14 version.
The message is (translated):Internet Explorer
press ok to continue loading this page.
On the top title bar on the HD2 screen, it shows battery level, signal level, time ,ect.
At times it will also show an "email" icon, or and "SMS" icon to indicate that a new email or sms came in.
But, I only know to carefully tap the title bar on the middle to right side of the titlebar to then pop-up/display the full-screen notification app which more easily displays a verbose/detailed description of any notifications.
Does anyone know if there is a way to display this "Notification" screen via a shortcut instead of having to tediously tap the top title bar on the screen?
settings menu all settings sounds and notifications notifications tab in top select "message new email message" and tick show on screen.

I am sorry, I meant to say how can I call up the "nitification" master screen even if there are currently no notifications to announce.
In other words, it seems the left softkey on home screens for older ROMS use to say "Notifications", which did exactly what I am looking for (to call up that main notification screen). But it seems the new roms change this left softkey to "Action".
So, how can I manually call up the "Notification" screen even if there are no current notifications to display?
is there a way to do this? i want to hear a beep/vibrate but i don't want any notification window. is it really that hard to customize without downloading handcent or another sms app?
In Messages app, go to the "All messages" screen, press <-- (back arrow) button if neccessary. Press "Menu" button, tap "Settings", look for "Received notification", make sure this is unchecked. Below it is "Play notification sound". make sure this is checked.
I did that, and it shows sound/vibrate checked however it greys it out when i uncheck notifications. it is silent when i do this.
