Am I Bricked? Please Help ASAP!!!11 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Hi everyone,
I decided to try to install the new KitKat Rom on my phone, but things didn't go very well and now my phone won't turn on. These are the steps I took. Please help!
- I bought a pack of KitKat bars at a local grocery store
- I put the KitKats in a bowl and crushed them and heated it in the microwave for 15 seconds
- I then rebooted my phone to stock recovery, then placed in the bowl with the crushed and melted KitKat bars. I left my phone there for 30 minutes.
- When I took my phone out of the bowl, I wiped the KitKats off of my phone. Unfortunately they were caked on very thick.
- Having trouble wiping my phone, I turned on the faucet and washed my phone off.
- After drying my phone off with a towel, I noticed that the phone was still damp and also noticed that the screen wasn't working properly.
- I then placed my phone in the microwave for 30 seconds to finish drying. Upon hitting start, I noticed a couple of sparks inside the microwave.
- After removing my phone from the microwave, there was a fowl smell coming from the phone and now it won't turn on.
Am I bricked, or will flashing a stock Rom using Odin fix the issue?
Thanks!

Gimme a break....

Lol almost as good as the iSheep who thought that ios7 waterproofed their Iphones.

Btw this doesnt belong here and have you tried buying jellybeans and melting it and put it into the phone to see if it works??

Gingerbreads the way to go.
Also, try oven for drying, microwaves cause overheating and bootloops

Have you tried fapyo I mean froyo
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 4

I believe the microwave needs to be at 50% power, try freezing your apps first (works quicker if you put it closer to the popsicles), and try again.

You used the new kit Kat mini's right? Otherwise yeah your phones toast, as in you need to toast it to get back to stock, but make sure you use the bagel setting, you don't want the damage the LCD!

As long as you used twrp 2502 there shouldn't be any problems, you may need to wipe 3to4 times before rinsing

I don't understand, I did the exact same thing, only different, and my phone works fine

most likely the OP didnt wipe properly....

i know you said your having trouble with the phone turning on but hows the battery life without all that display drain? to fix the phone not turning on i would suggest changing the kernel.....i myself prefer orville redenbacher.....fits perfectly in the battery slots and the headphone jack.....ide keet aways from heat sources if you use it though could cause some minor explosions.

When I read the 1st few lines of the op I was thinking, there's already a kit kat rom!!!?? ? lol!

OK I think I can help. I know a guy that knows a guy that knows a guy that works at Sprint, he says you should just take the battery out for 15 minutes then back in and boom problem solved.

You beat me to it, I thought "Kit Kat isn't out yet......this guy's probably in a world of hurt", but then I read the post and got a good ab workout from keeping the laughter in while I'm at work.
To fix, I might recommend jumping several generations ahead and trying the yet-to-be-ever-popular Reese's Cup version. Same steps, but better candy.

Wife's Focus - Dropped in water...

My wife dropped her phone.....in the toilet.
I tried turning it on today, and it sits at a screen that has a picture of the phone pointing at a laptop. I tried running the Windows Phone Support Tool, and I get this:
Update device 055ec22b - 332fe4fd - a812e651 - 640069c7 Complete with error code: 801812C0, error message: The update failed because your phone started improperly (in the main OS instead of the SLDR, or system loader).
Is there any way to get the phone reloaded with the default OS, or is her phone toast?
The best way to fix it....... Drop it again in the toilet and buy new phone

maybe try a factory reset by using volume up+camera+ power button to boot..if not you can always try flashing one of the stock firmware available in these forums..assuming your hardware isn't toast these things will work

Tried a factory reset, as well as trying to flash the stock firmware on the phone. However, I end up at the same spot with the picture of the phone tethered to the laptop. I have a feeling it's a lost cause at this point. Thanks for the advice.
/ignore background noise
Quick questions:
1. Was the phone on when it was dropped?
2. Was the battery removed immediately?
3. How was it dried and for how long?
It could be worse - mine just took a magical trip through the washing machine in my pants pocket. :/ Anyone know of a good parts supplier that stocks the mainboard? That's the one component I can't find for sale, but I want to make sure I CAN get it before I take apart my other Samsung Focus to troubleshoot the broken part(s).
from my experince with a samsung jet,
I dropped it also in water too, i tried t oturn it after few days, strange things happned too me!!! so decided to get a new phone.
I didn't through my jet, and after few months, I charged the phone, and test it found it working without problems
I believe was just a matter of when al lthe electronics inside the phone gets really dry
try it out
I heard pulling out the battery, and putting everything buried underneath dry rice helps. Probably for a couple of days, then see what happens.

My Focus is VERY sensitive to any dampness at all. If it gets damp in my pocket (sweating, lawn sprinkler, etc.), it will ding constantly with the sound when you connect the USB cable to it. I have to take a hair dryer to the micro-USB port.
A method I heard, but have never tried, is to wrap the phone in a full sized thick bath towel and bind it closed (duct tape, bungee, whatever) and then put it in the clothes dryer on low heat for an hour.
Thanks for all the info. I will be trying it again tomorrow once I get my USB cable back. I know the cable for my Inspire will work on it as well but I forgot that at work today. Thanks again all.

no its not... Its a myth. The liquid evaporates unless you took it all apart and the rice actually touched the liquid and absorbed it. Taking the battery out and leaving the door off and placing the unit in front of a fan will do 1000 times more for the process than rice... Moving air is the perfect evaporator. Plus rice dust gunks up ports... Sorry to burst the experts bubble around here but facts are facts...

T-Mo Vibrant dropped in toilet, still boots but....

The phone still boots, infact I can go through set up (I was handed the device after a factory reset), but it reboots out of nowhere and will not fully boot until the battery is pulled
In other words, it can only "cold boot". No warm/hot reboots work.
Phone is 100% stock, 2.3.4 before it took the plunge.
I am experienced in rooting/modding/flashing, this is a friends phone I'm trying to fix. you guys think flashing it might revive this thing from the constant powercycling?
Edit; more info - the phone was left off after being submerged, was left out to dry. I opened up the phone down to the PCB and found no damage, cleaned it up a tad... everything seems ok hardware speaking.

2.3.4 is not 100 % stock as we don't have an official Gingerbread build.
Try to ODIN back to stock, see if that works.
Hmmmmm Ok let me re-check what build it was running... but I bought the phone with her a while back and it was supposed to be stock then, and I seriously doubt this girl knows how to root and flash a phone

This is exactly what I was hoping would happen once I flash it. I just need confirmation is all. Thanks
I dont get home from work for another couple hrs... load up Odin and flash it when I get home
It should come back to life after the flash back to stock. My phone has experienced a swim in the toilet and been in the submerged in the washing machine for 5+ minutes, came back both times. It's starting to make me think that this phone is indestructible.

Same thing happened to my vibrant about a week ago ,too. I did dried it ...but couldn't turn it on. So i thought it was dead ,and left it on the table. After 2-3 days, my bro took the phone and tried to turn it on again. Woohoo, it booted and worked. I guess i like samsung more than before
One of ours fell in the bathtub. The result was constant boot loops due to moisture. Also it would turn on as soon as the battery was installed without pressing power. I stripped it down to its pcb, swished it around in a bowl of isopropyl alcohol (I used 91% - the higher the better) for about 10-15seconds then let it dry about 3 hours. After I put it back together it was as good as new. No loops, no auto power up, no need to reflash. Simply good as new! I got lucky...

Still trying to sort mine out after a tub dump. It still bootloops occasionally and is doing the turn on as soon as battery inserted thing. I fully disassembled mine and took a can of compressed air to the PCB's.
On to ODIN next to fully restore the stock filesystem. Pray for me!
Remove the back and battery and submerge your phone in a bowl of plain uncooked white rice overnight. Problem solved

Odin should correct any corruptions but if it still bootloops than there is still some moisture. Use rice or what i did take everything out battery memory sim and plave your phone on top of warm electrical device like cable box etc which usualy warm make sure you rotate once.

Battery life

So i had this issue about a month ago. My phone got submerged in water. I shut it off, took batttery out, blow dried it, and let it sit over night. Next day fired right up with no issues. About 2 weeks later, battery life goes in the toilet. Goes dead in 4 hours with no use. So i bought a new battery thinking that would fix it, but no, it did not. I can understand the phone having issues after getting totally soaked while turned on, but in the past, display used most of the battery, now im getting android os as the culprit. Its strange, what would change from display to android os just by getting wet?. Ive tried multiple roms, its always the same. Any suggestions? Fyi, it dropped in the toilet, nothing worse than seeing your phone screen on while shining up thru the water!
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
You should just be happy it still works at all
...but sorry I can't be of any assistance in this matter. I would probably just try and start from scratch by flashing a stock 2.2 RUU and then rerooting and installing a custom ROM.

Is everything working such as the sensors, compas, wifi, bluetooth, gps? If one of their chips got fried the os may be constantly trying to load or access something that is not working, therfore killing the battery. FYI the perfered method for drying a soaked phone is to put it in a bag of rice for a couple days. Blow drying just pushes the watter in deeper, and if you do it to much the heat can mess up the circuit board.
Everything works just fine. Im stumped.

are you sure all the water is gone? also the minerals in water will stick around long after the water is gone i bet there is something in there that is shorting it out but on a small scale.
i would suggest to take the phone apart and make sure you dont see any white or milky deposits on the MB or any where else. if you see some you can use 91% or higher isopropyl, (rubbing alcohol) i would use 98% but its harder to get, you can find it at a medical supply store though. Clean up the board and let it air dry before putting it all back together.
taking the phone apart is fairly simple you just need to be patient. i used this video when i needed to swap screens.

Screen flickering problem

Temp fix on post 7
Hey, I've owned my phone for
about 6 months. It has been fine till about a week ago when I flashed a miui rom (Mintberry). At first, it was just occasional flickering, everyday or two for a few seconds, but now it's turned into a fair bit more.
If I don't use my phone heavily for about 3 hours, and go back to the phone, the screen has turned completely grey. When this happens, no matter what state my phone is in the screen flickers. It generally begins flickering very fast then after 5 seconds the screen is completely grey (even once rebooted).
I have dropped my phone a few times like everyone does, nothing severe or even close though. I didn't drop it then have it instantly happen.
I have since tried a few things...
Changed pixel density in rom toolbox (works once rebooted, but only till I stop using)
Changed from miui to ICS (no difference, but took an hour for it to start)
Am I looking at buying a new screen?
Edit: tried another battery, no success (didn't expect much)

I had similar issue with my phone. I do not think it has anything to do with software.. but yours is far worse thn mine.. I only had minor flickering which could only be seen sometimes and you really need to notice it with black or white background.. I tired diffrent roms it was on all of them.. I switched back to original rom.. and then got my screen replaced underwarranty... working fine since then..
OK thanks, ill give them a call today.

Had mine flickering in the same fashion. Out of warranty. Took it to a repair place and apparently it was just the screen connection was loose - thats what they told me anyway - $80 later everything worked again - probably ripped me off but im not a hardware tech so didnt want to screw with it myself
I'll have a look at a disassemble guide today, see if I can fix the cable. Thanks man, generally screen flickering is from a loose cable.

Well today I found a fix...
I accidently left my phone in the car when it was pretty hot. Seemed fine when i used it for a few minutes so i assumed it was water damage and decided to take the battery out and leave it for a while.
Came back to the phone after i had done the shopping to see if it was still working. Nope... It was noticably colder though as the car was now in the shade.
I ended up getting a heat bag and wrapping it around the phone. The screen almost immediately started working and the screen was perfect.

o no bro.a good tip, dont use bulb or something its make corrosive your mainboard.the best is to put it in a jar full of rice.
thanks,,,,,,,buddy i suppose it work!!!!doin it
Bro also place rice jar in sunlight so that water will eveporate and rice would absorb it...
Also remove battery and other accessories.and if possible open the body of phone by removing the screws...
Placing it in a bag of rice wont help much as far as I know just let it dry and after that open the phone and see if there is any corrosion on the board if yes remove that first by a soft brush to remove the corrosion you can also try to dip the main board in alcoholic solution just google it

glad to hear the hardware is safe from harm,
btw make sure to run tests because most of the time water damages does not appear at first
The classic rice trick has always worked best for me.
Guys, once i also experienced the same problem. My phone feel into a bucket full of water . What i did was, immediately removed the battery and wiped it well, then some shaking.. After 15, 20 minutes, i restarted it but it wasn't. I tried to unscrew it but failed due to lack of proper screw driver.. anyway i left it on my bed and went for duty. Evening icame back. Tried to restart, again failed. then i put it on charging. Nothing was shown on the display as charging. But after a 10 minutes when i tried to switch it on, really, it switched on... There was no problem after that.
Same my brother also experienced this problem. He accidently dropped it in a pond.. He took it to a Samsung care, after checking they told him that its motherboard needs to be changed. And it costs half the price of y. So he took it back to
Home. One of his friend told him to put it under sunlight.! He did so, and after some time when he switched it on, it successfully booted. But there is a big round Mark in his display.
Now he has to change the display.

when situations like that happen:
1. REMOVE BATTERY IMMEDIATELY
2. NEVER PUT THE BATTERY BACK ON
3. DONT PANIC
4. Never put the device to dry under the sun
