I still have my non rooted note 2. I had a nightmare reinstalling my back ups the ones on my memory card could be found .Thank for my phone explorer that saved the day for some .
Also Kies didn't work with this at all it days I need a new version which I could find.a whole day wasted so far .(this is one area where iPhone is leaps above.)
Seems to take longer to turn on.
Overall I like it and the back is good non slippery.
Haven't had time to check it all or the pen apps but I few things I notice .
No Polaris office but there's a Polaris viewer only but I can't find it in the apps.no radio.and the my files manager seems complex.
I have a gps app called Osmand from my old note and the maps where on the sd card but it doesn't seem to find it.
In fact only my music and photos where recognized none of the data or backups where recognized.
I'm using nova launcher but the touch wiz is real fast now .
Screen is great too early to tell about battery .
Haven't tested the camera yet .
But one bug thing for me exchange active sync is white and Grey now much better to see.
The one thing that has left a bad taste is the back ups I used my back up pro to my memory card plus even nova back up couldn't be found but Kies has to be rewriten.
Please ask any questions and I'll try to help as I still have my old note.
Also my bookmarks didn't come over using the standard samsung browser en en though it's synced.
Sorry if this post is disjointed just wanted to update you all

Personally.... I will wait for the JB 4.3 update, and see how that changes the Note 2. If it brings it on a par with the Note 3 (except for the hardware differences), then I'll stay with what I have. There really isn't enough innovation to warrant changing from Note 2. Mebbe if I only had a Note.....would be worth the upgrade...but right now...NO. Lets see what JB 4.3 does.

I purchased a note 3 on the 25th (UK release day) paid £620 for it sim free. I personally regret the 'upgrade'
Yeah, it's got a nice display, I like the charging speed, but.. where's pop up browser gone? I love that on my note 2, Samsung have banished it away on the n3.
My main gripe.. Is audio. And the speaker. What are Samsung thinking by placing a small thin speaker on the bottom of the device?
The sound is thin /toppy.. My note 2 is much better.
If you upgrade expecting better audio, you'll be disappointed.
The note 3 has loudness, but it's so thin it's unbearable fully up.
I'm actually selling my note 3 because of it, I feel let down, and realise how good my note 2 actually is now.
Rant over.
Hopefully my impressions will change after time.but I too feel its not worth the upgrade from note 2 unless you are a pen fanatic

Your backups are no longer working because from Android 4.1.2 to the current version on the Note 3 the file system changed. In other words, your backups are still there but in different directories and the phone just cannot find them. You should move them with a file manager...

Not always. Check out the HTC One. It has AWESOME audio. I even considered the One just for that, and the build quality. Yet here i am with the Note 2 still ^.^ I love my Note 2. Plastic and creaky. It's my baby. Haha.
Thanks for letting us know about the bad speakers. This is a real deal breaker for me
What i want from note3- it is battery cover. I hate that slippery glossy back cover. If i saw one for my note2, I'll definitely grab one!
And of course 4.3 update. Thats all, that interests me. So for now I don't see a good reason to upgrade my device.
And if loud speaker is even worse than note2, hell no for that. My previous decices had dual loud speakers, so sound quality was decent, but I was seriously disappointed in note2 sound quality. Crackling sound drives me crazy! I can't imagine even worse quality then note2...
I'm simply gonna wait till the the note 4 so I'll actually be able to tell the difference.

You can get a faux leather back from ebay . I found this fit the bill perfectly. I'm not convinced about upgrading. Still very happy with note 2.
A metal rim might have swayed me. But having said that it was easy to replace the one I chipped and scratched. Its as good as new.
Again ebay to the rescue.

The product looks trash on their eBay pictures. But looks alright on the picture you posted above.
How is the grip? Slippery or does it give the kind of nice grip you'd expect from "leather"?
Why does touchwiz slows down overtime? I remember the day when i purchase this baby its like no one can beat the smoothness of touchwiz

Hello all,
I got my Galaxy Nexus on day of release, so had it some 6 months or so, the other day I bought a Galaxy S III, the following day sold my Galaxy Nexus for 320€ (loss of 300€ in 6 months, can live with that).
Now, I must say while I loved the GN display I was one of those who suffered from the squares when on low brightness. That was my biggest gripe with the GN... Battery life was 2 days on one charge.. stock Android, loved it.
So on to the S3, performance? wow, very nice, in general pretty smooth. Could I tell a massive noticeable improvement over the GN? Not really.
Sound, MUCH MUCH MUCH better on the S3 ...
Build quality seems a tiny bit less than the GN.
I certainly do not like the physical home button on the S3.
Camera and video, on S3 very pleased indeed.
One very annoying bug is that for some reason I've got no DTFM tones in a call... which is a #taxibookingfail for me Had to grab the misses iPhone 4S to ring the damn taxi company in the end. #eggonface
The Samsung widgets etc I think are average. HTC do much nicer ones thats for sure.
I do miss the GN a lot, and stock Android is wonderful.
As I've been using fastboot to install new release ROM's on the GN, find it a pain to flash the S3. I'm on Mac and I wanted to flash the latest EU ROM in the hope it would fix the DTFM issue, but I just can't seem to get it done. Yeah I've grabbed Heimdall, extracted the ROM, blah blah, even looked at CLI flashing, but it's not working. I guess there is no fastboot for the S3. If anyone knows better please do say. Also are there OTA packages for the S3 that can be downloaded and patched via recovery?
Anyway.. all the best guys

So I myself am also making the transition from the gnex to the gs3 and my biggest gripe is the battery on the gnex. In your opinion how much better battery life did you get from the gs3 then you did from the gnex?
I would recommend Mobile ODIN to solve your flashing problem. It lets you download things right to your phone, and it will auto reboot and flash them for you. I grabbed the pro version for 4USD because it auto-downloads any fixes you need.
As far as the Gnex, I am surprised you are not happier moving to your GS3. I had a grey Gnex for about 4 months, and the screen quality, camera, and speaker volume were terrible. I was worried it would be similar on this phone, but all three of those areas seem vastly improved to me.
Galaxy nexus is the best device compared to s3 due to the price, stock ics and on screen navigation
Price is the biggest one for me
I bought galaxy nexus for 27000
S3 price abt 39000
Samsung touch wiz and s voice is a crap.
Except microsd I am happy with the purchase of gnex....

Don't do it. The screen drains the battery on the GN like there's no tomorrow! Unless you turn the brightness way down...then you can't enjoy the HD screen which defeats the purpose. Also the screen is kind of washed out looking, with everything looking yellowish especially at lower brightness. Also the external speaker on the GN is really low and probably one of the worst I've ever heard on a phone. There's a couple more things but these are my main gripes with the phone. The Screen and speaker are 2 very important features that have to work right on my phone. So I'm selling my basically new GN and getting the GS3 on the 21st.

Approximately twice the screen on time in my case, from 3 to almost 6 hours screen in time.
Idle consumption is worse on sgs3 due to possible bug but screen on time is what matters the most.
Overall performance is much better, but battery life was the top reason for me to move to sgs3 from gnex.

Yes the battery life on the GSM sucks monkey balls.
I loved my gnex but it had a few small issues. Wifi has short range, the speaker volume was low and the screens colors were more washed out. Overall the Gnex is still solid and one of the best phones I've had. Got love for gnex.

I'll be getting rid of my g nexus here as well. I get about 4 hours maybe 4.5 of constant screen time. Standby is really good with franco and aokp but those roms and cm well likely be on the s3 regardless so not much reason to stick with the nexus at this point.
I'm just waiting for the second batch. They are likely running full tilt and the manufacturing will tighten up quality wise on the second + runs.

Okay guys here is my problem. I got a Play Gnex GSM last month. I have the car dock and pogo landscape dock. The Nexus is my first Android phone. I don't run custom roms and have little interest in modding the device. It is rooted. I play videos and mostly spotify. I was very pissed about the sound volume but have figured that out with Volume+ and finally got the settings I like. As of right now I have no complaints with the phone and love it. I also have the 3800mah and three regular batteries (one original and two qcell non-nfc) so battery issues are not a problem for me. I've never been a hard core gamer on the phone so FPS isn't a concern either. That could change if I got hooked I guess. Also the pogo dock is great. I dock the Nexus and use it as a clock at night. I could do the same with the GS3 but would have to plug a cord in all the time.
To be honest my original intention was to purchase the Nexus then after the GS3 was released give the Nexus to my wife and purchase the GS3. My wife has been using my old iPhone 3g for two years and it's on it's last legs. Not to mention it's jailbroken and Ultrasn0wed for the unlock. It's on 4.01. I'm having second thoughts now. I love the Nexus. On the other hand the GS3 I know is going to be super incredible plus the microsd storage would hold everything I could possibly throw at it. I'm also expecting improved audio from the GS3 as well. I'm okay with the Nexus audio but it doesn't even touch the quality from my two year old iPhone 4.
Should I pass the Nexus on to the wife and get a GS3 or should I wait until the next Google phone comes out and hope it has great specs and pass the Nexus along then? Money isn't that much of a issue at the moment. I already have a 64gb card and plan on selling my iPhone 4 when it's unlocked (as soon as I get the unlock e-mail confirmation from Apple and do a restore, ATT already approved the unlock yesterday). I would be getting the ATT LTE version.
Another option is to use the Nexus and not sell the iPhone but let her use it until the next Google phone comes out then do the rotation.
For those of you that have "upgraded" to the GS3 from the Nexus how many of you would do it again?

Please stop - finding it harder to resist the Note 2 every day!
Seriously though, every video review I've read makes it clear just how full this phone is of great features. I've never been a fan of TouchWiz and I personally think it looks dog ugly compared to stock Jelly Bean, but I can't deny that Samsung have built in some really useful features combined with the fastest technology available. I've heard complaints about price, but when I compared Amazon's price for SIM free to Apple's price for the iPhone 5, the Note 2 is marginally cheaper.
Have a ton of apps already loaded.
Take the N1 custom Rom that claims is the buttery smoothest and this kicks its ass without modding.
Take the fastest tweaked N1 custom Rom (tried em all) and this runs circles around it.
The screen clarity is better..more vivid...had doubts from comments here.
If you liked using the S-pen on N1...you'll love it here.
Multi Window functionality really is a revolutionary feature in a stock rom. Being able to have my notes app on the bottom and comment on a document displayed above it is superb. All the features Samsung hyped about in their release announcement....aint hype!
Its that good...and more.
Oh and I really like it!

I am also a Note 1 user/lover and have bought a Note 2.
Here are my initial thoughts:
Note 2 is much easier to hold... feels more like a phone then a tablet.
Note 2 screen seemed to be less bright/colourful as Note 1 but with a few minor adjustments from the default settings it is much better. Though i am still in 2 minds about which screen is superior.
Multi window feature is awesome.
Speed of the device is excellent.
S-Pen implementation is much better on Note 2 then Note 1.
Signature unlock has been removed (must have had issues), but we now have 'motion' unlock and a 'face and voice' unlock feature to compliment.
Apps do not have access to the external SD card... at all. The only app that can access the external SD is the built in File Explorer.
Swype is now fully integrated (ie/ it is the default keyboard and all Swype branding has been removed).
That's all i can think of for now!
its fantastic phone better then n1 in every department other then camera, images, text and icons. not as crisp or clear.
fixed all the parts i didn't like with the first note.
More ergonomic pen.
More uses for the pen.
Better battery-life.
feels better to hold.
LED notifications.
Smoother overall experience.
Screen don't feel as crisp but its still sharp and nice in my opinion. actually i find it just as good as the first Notes screen.
Camera is fast.
Speaker is great, even covering it with your finger it still hearable.
power and volume buttons moved down a bit for easier access.
micro SD card slot moved to a better location.
faster WI-FI.
GPS finds location quicker then my note, and finds satellites when the note dont. got 7 in view right now side by side with my old note.. the old note got 0 in view...
100% worth the money :victory:

Hmmm. Better keyboard on the one (love stock htc over swiftkey or samsung stock)
I prefer the screen on the HTC one as it better suits my eyes, especially under sunlight.
Sense 5 seems more refined to me and looks better overall to me. I appreciate the design esthetics over touchwiz.
Boomsound = No comparison.

I was worried it was going to be too big coming from a iPhone 4s. Now my misus iPhone 5 even feels too small and inferior! Apple, I'm never coming back.

Thanks, I am on the fence. Tired of HTC messing with the phone during OTA's for us flashers.
Do want a bigger screen. But, did hear about the bad s4 keyboard. I am not much on Swiftkey either. I have been playing with both at att. Will pay more attn to keyboard. S4 did have great dl speeds in store compared to One right beside it.
Again, appreciate feedback--

Yeah, it started with Note Two and One S. They are making them taller and narrower so they feel better in hand. It doesn't feel like that big a phone when holding it.
I dont think you would be disappointed with either device. But the look and feel of the one, add in boomsound. I'm now running trickdroid Rom with tbaldens HTC logo as menu. Only 2 places I see the s4 being better is the sd slot and removable battery. Slightly larger screen. Htcs screen is big enough for me. 32gb is enough for me as that's all I had on my iPhone. Oh and charging time on this phone sucks really bad. Not sure on the s4
I think charging and batt life is good on the s4. Hopefully an update will cure charging. Yeah, 32gb would work since my One S is 16gb. I get by with it. Would really want 64gb and Black.
My browsing is biggest issue, old eyes. Need to play with One more in that regard--
Yes this phone charges slow. My galaxy S3 was slow as well but not sure it was this slow. I +1 the comment on the slightly narrower screen. I prefer this on the one vs S4. Easier for me to type on, and again this keyboard is probably the best I have ever used on any android device.

I don't use the stock charger anymore, it was taking forever...using my andru and it charges from 20% to 100% in 2 1/2 -3 hours. If y'all have another charger try it out, I seriously think something is up with the stock one.

I'm gonna try and destroy my battery today and test. It's at 73% now and estimated charge time in gsam is 1 and a half hours
Charging is fine batt life is fine it's all on how you set your settings and freeze certain apps ....
I posted an illustration on bloatware and safe apps to freeze over in the general forum of T-Mobile HTC one
I can charge From 4%to 40 in 45 min
Not sure it may vary from device to device

Really can not wait for mine to arrive. Up to a two week wait on EE!
But reading all this threads is just making me excited! Think I made a good choice in picking the HTC One to be honest!
I am an avid fan of the Samsung S series of phones. I've had a few and to date think the S3 is the best they've done so far (S4 notwithstanding). But, I love the Google Nexus series of phones and have owned one, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I purchased the Nexus 4 on Saturday from Google and I cannot wait to get it. I love the bareness of the Nexus line. I love Android in its stock form. Thing is, I'm going from one of the best selling phones to a midlevel device. Am I making a mistake doing this? What am I loosing? Currently, we do have LTE in our area but it's sucking the heck out of my battery on the S3 so I'm not concerned if the N4 has no LTE. Am I gaining anything from going to the N4? Is the camera good enough? What about the sound on it - it sucked moose butt on the SGN!
I'm hoping for some comments and opinions that will help me in evaluating this latest purchase and what to expect. Thanks guys:good:
Mid-level? You do realize a quad core chip and 2gb of ram make this a high-level device as for lte I personally don't use it and camera is better then the galaxy nexus but isn't the best obviously for the price speakers do fine as well

Wait until the 15th this month, there is a revised Nexus 4 to be released that should support full LTE, 32 GB of storage and maybe other upgrades. For the current one i`am very happy with it, the camera is a bit less than in the S3, but the cpu and gpu are much better. The screen is fantastic, bright, crisp and a good vieuwing angles. For me it is an upgrade compared to the S3 or even the S4 (wich i`am gona skip for sure). The N4 has no bloatware and great development. And for a very good price.
BTW the N4 is not mid level
Crap...I shoulda waited. I forgot about the LTE version coming out! Oh wells...it's already paid for. Has LG stepped it up on the Nexus line? I've never been a fan of them but in my opinion, Google wouldn't brand their phone if it wasn't any good. As good as the S3 is, it feels slow opening stuff sometimes even with a fresh factory refresh. It's got some good internals so it makes no sense why it does this...this always bugged me. It wasn't a deal breaker as the camera on this phone is sick! Great picture quality on it.

The internal storage of the Galaxy S4 is 16GB and 7GB is for the OS and lots and lots of gimmicks/bloatware/crap. 9GB available for the user We on the N4 have about 13GB left.
I don't think branding the N4 as a mid level device is correct or at least in my opinion. Perhaps it's the price tag that makes it "mid level" or whatever the reason is, the Nexus 4 is more of a high end device for cheap.
I bought a brand new GS3 from a friend a few weeks ago and I don't like it anymore. It was a good idea I didn't get it last year when it came out. I'm gonna sell it...

Yeah, the N4 is a high-end phone for a mid-range price. Absolute bargain.
Sent from my Nexus 4
Its odd the “mid range" stigma that's put on the N4 by average consumer, even here at xda. I've seen hundreds of post from various forums or sites in the comments with people calling it that and ironically they are Galaxy users who usually say things like this poster also did about the UI being sluggish while confidently calling the S a high end device lol. OP glad you got the N4, you'll be more than satisfied I believe, you'll read a bunch of complaints on here, but like absolutely any other phone available if you read enough threads on here people will have funky devices or just nit picky problems. UI is awesome, storage is pretty sufficient, OS barely uses any space, I have probably 1000 pics, 30 albums and maybe 50 apps including CSR Racing which is large and have about 4.5gigs free. Lacking LTE maybe an issue for some, but honestly I think it becomes a feature option issue for most, the inability to claim LTE rights amongst other phone users lol, I'm on T-Mobile and live in Philadelphia, my data is always fast, in most real world scenarios as fast as my boys DNA, and as fast as my brother in laws S3 on AT&T. Camera is another issue for some, not for others, look on the pic from n4 thread, when you work at it, the phone is capable of taking some amazing shots, on the fly pull your phone out and snap can be hit or miss but why some people expect or even need their phone to be art gallery worthy pics I don't know lol. Speaker, is well a speaker, I can hear when I need to, but all this talk of the HTC having "boom" sound and dual speakers for what? If I wanna host a mini rave with my phone? Lol I just don't see the real world use for it. Summing it up, everyone that has touched my N4 since I got it, users of iPhone, S phones and even my cousin who still won't let BlackBerry die has loved this phone after spending as little as 10 minutes with it. Feels great in the hand, UI is always snappy, screen is crisp.

Great replies everyone...thank you. I've read a lot of reviews and such and most of them calls the N4 a midrange phone. In my opinion, they do it based on the price and public (uninformed) preception. I used the same phrase here based on these although loving stock android like I do, I'd be calling it high end. The Camera for me is a nice addition because working as a tech for UPS, I travel around some and get to see the sights along the way. In doing so, it's nice to have a quality camera onhand to take some pictures of where I've been. I don't always take a "camera" as I travel light so having a quality one with me is very handy, which is why I ask what the quality is on the N4. I've read a lot on XDA and seen some pics and it is hit and miss from what I see but a definate upgrage from the SGN.
I've read a lot about the back breaking/cracking. I'm thinking it's a good idea to get a sheild for the back at least. I've never been a fan of putting one on the front as I like the smooth feeling while sliding/swyping.

I'd agree with putting on a back glass protector. If anything the Nexus is a more high-end phone than the S3 tbh, the S4 Pro trumps the Exynos; 2GB RAM > 1, the screen is at a higher resolution and the build feels more premium than the S3. The only reason it's sometimes called a mid range phone is because of the price. There also seems to be a lot of hate for it on the internet though, which is odd because everyone I know who has one likes it. I think that it's only because loads of people wanted one but had huge delays when ordering it.
A case will provide more protection than a back protector.

Just because a gs3/4 is over $500 doesn't make it a high end device, calling the nexus 4 a mid range device is ignorance, and yes the nexus 4 beats both

Well either way the S3/S4 are high-end devices. I doubt the Nexus 4 beats the both devices. The S4 has a newer CPU and it's software features are awesome in my opinion.

No I would not ....I wanted to love this phone but I just can't. The camera is hit and miss ...sure it can take some really awesome pics but it also takes some bad ones. I normally have to take a few pics before it looks good. The GPS in mine is horrid. It will lose signal mid route. The Knox pop up is getting old fast. And last when connected to WiFi it will randomly pop up and say its unstable when its not.

I have not experienced any of the issues that were mentionsd in one of the posts above. You must have a faulty handset.... my note 3 is amazing, it makes every other smartphone seem awful. I have had so many people stop me to say how nice it looks. And the camera is wonderful, never had any issues in photo quality. This never ever lags, EVER. So you can feel confident in your purchase. This will be a future proof device for some time.

Yes, without thinking.
As far as issues above:
1. camera is great for the phone, need to know limitations and workarounds. I had misses with $3000 DSLR. Maybe low light could be improved in next update little bit, but I really try not to take pictures in low night, they'll look bad even on $100000 night vision camera.
2. GPS on mine is fantastic, I get lock inside the house my dedicated GPS could not dream off, perfect tracking in city canyons
3. Never seen Knox message after first couple times, not sure if it was "don't show for 30 days" , or something else I did, should know in about 1 week. It was meaningless anyhow, something like the messages about WiFi networks available everywhere, yeah I know they are, but I have no password.
4. I had Note3 WiFi issues despite GS3 and laptop working great. Updating router firmware fixed it once and for all, yeah, I couldn't believe either it was that simple and why was the router set not to auto update, no idea.
I actually wanted rumored Note3 active, that's probably I would go for, if it finally show up, instead of Note3, otherwise there is pretty much nothing else with all the features.
I'm on the fence
I love the phone, but the message app is laggy.
Worst part. I feel like I'm still with Apple, waiting for a jailbreak. Buying the ATT version was a mistake, (but I didn't know any better).
locked bootloader, wth! I certainly picked the "worst time" to switch to Android, (always chitty luck for me!)

Absolutely. However I should note that I have had my device for less than a week at this stage
The only thing I really dislike is the Knox bit. I wouldn't mind rooting and putting a custom kernel on it, but alas I cannot, and not willing to sacrifice my warranty at this stage.

I realize you have to know limitations of the camera... That's why I shoot with a Sony a65. When I want to take a pic of my daughter and I don't have my sony I have to take multiple photos because it won't focus or she will be blurry because of slow shutter speed... The indoor (low light) pics on the note 3 are down right horrid. Like I said I wanted to love the phone I just can't. The GPS is the main reason though as I absolutely need it for work.

Carrier branded phones are stupid in general - your mistake (somewhat - also ATTs mistake for locking bootloaders)
Get hangouts and enable SMS in settings, use it as your message app
That's the beauty of Android - even though personally the stock messaging app is flawless and fluid on my handset despite tons of SMS messages.
I bought 2 for my wife and I, and we'd do it again in a heart beat! Love this phone! What a great upgrade from my Atrix, only thing we miss is the finger print sensor for added security but since no one has made a good phone with a finger print scanner...
I'm a media consumption whore and the screen is perfect, speakers get the job done too, clear and loud. 3gigs of ram and a 2.3ghz quad core processor!!! My phone might not be x86 but it's still faster than a lot of computers out there.
Battery life is amazing. With my atrix is have to charge it every 5 hours but the note 3 lasts me all day on heavy usage, and I do mean heavy! Videos and music and data. Thanks to greenify and wakelock detector I've been able to set up my phone where it can last what sends like a week on standby. Seriously overnight it only drains 5% and that's with WiFi, Bluetooth, etc left on
