Phone won't boot after first reboot. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Hi, I've been trying to flash Paranoid Android 3.99 RC2 with KT-SGS4 the latest.
I'll flash the ROM, Gapps, and kernel, and will boot. Then on my next reboot I get stuck on the Samsung screen with the lock that says custom. The only way I can get out of this is to hold Vol. up + home + Power, and FORMAT data, and reflash the listed stuff to get it running again. Is there anyway to fix this? I've searched for hours and can't find a resolution, I just switched to the GS4.

Bricked and won't boot following attempted Samsung update (16GB Wifi Retail)

A message popped up from Samsung to install an update (I had been pressing cancel for the past week on this update). It says click OK to reboot and apply update (something along those lines) so I do. Now I am stuck with a tablet that won't boot. If I hold the power button it says "Samsung Galaxy 10.1" after about 12 seconds, but then it goes away and back to darkness. Nothing else. Holding power and volume up does nothing.
Someone know what is going on and have any idea how to resolve?
The best way is to restore any backup you have from cwm recovery. Else grab a stock firmware and flash it with ODIN or if zip than CWM recovery. For luck, try clearing cache and data in recovery, first!Perhaps it may work saving you all fuss of flashing a firmware.
I cannot even boot that far too get into recovery. And I just noticed that although I can't boot, the backlight is on (on a solid black screen).... wtf
You can't hold volume down and power button to enter recovery?
Nope. I plugged into my computer and for some reason with the USB connectd it let me enter recovery. Flashed a backup and rebooted, but now I have no wifi... im confused.
it occured once to me when i tried to overclock, it never worked except when installing a new rom... Try to root the device and then install a new rom
OK, was a helluva night messing with ROM and kernel installs... I have yet to go back to completely stock (that's next up tonight, unfortunately), but I installed Starburst ROM and the Wifi still didn't work so I then installed pershoot's kernel and now when I boot the screen is extremely distorted kind of like this: http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTsKa5IoQxnesGdUjykWDDggoQZ38yZ2VXSgPAQ09NOCnETzl9-
As a side note, when I say the wifi is not working, it still shows all networks and allows me to connect just like normal. However when connected no apps can access the network...
Can someone point me to a thread on how to revert EVERYTHING back to stock so I can start fresh? TIA!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1171089
Should have all the files you need. From where you are now I would flash the stock OTA 3.1 or TW then flash the stock recovery and do a factory reset from that recovery. That should get rid of the garbled screen.
Thanks buddy. On my way to grab the files now
I heard the update was pulled as it sometimes rewrites the bootloader improperly. You might need to send it in, unfortunately.

Please help!!! Phone stuck on bootscreen,no recovery, download

I have been using Darkyy's resurrection 9.2 for over a year now. Uptil now I had never faced any problem. Today in the morning it was working fine. Then, my phone started running really slow so I decided to reboot. Ever since then, its been stuck on the bootscreen showing Darky's rom. I had not tried anything, no flashing, no installation, nothing.
The worst part is I have tried the 3 button combo many times, but it doesnt seem to be working. I know it used to work for me previously.
I am really in a spot and desperately need help. Any suggestion will be appreciated. Thanks.

you mean recovery and download mode doesn't work? did you also try to remove battery then do the 3 button combo? usually if recovery doesn't work, go download mode. then flash a JV(*) with odin3. repartition ticked and put the code, modem, csc. then flash a kernel again.
cant get into recovery or download. tried the 3 button combo about 50 times. and yea, i tried removing the battery for 5 mins and then doing it..

I know how frustrating problems can be as I soft bricked mine two days ago attempting to do a Nand restore back my last GB rom from CWM and then spent four hours trying to get my PC to see my phone so I could use ODIN. Here's my method that worked flawlessly for me.
1. Turn phone off and use your jig to put into download mode (get one if you don't have one. Best $10 I ever spent at MobilTechVideos)
2. Open Odin and install 897uckf1 bootloaders package found here http://www.team-continuum.net/home/index.php?PHPSESSID=c26a6e49ab5ddf7a30746954d7db0ccf&topic=17.0
3. When done, remove battery and put back in and then put back into download mode
4. Flash TalonDev Kernel (also provided in above link )
5. when done reboot phone. You will now be stock/rooted GB with CWM. Turn phone off
6. Reboot into recovery (vol up then power button, release power soon as you see the GT-I9000 screen and keep vol up held down till you see orange CWM
7. Wipe Cach/Dalvik/Data factory reset. Flash ICS RC2.11
8. reboot. You should be stuck in the boot mode now (rainbow boot animation). pull battery and reboot into recovery.
9. Flash ICS RC2.11 again no wiping
10. Select advance then "reboot recovery" If it does reboot CWM pull battery and use button combo
11. Flash Nush 3180
12. Reboot. You should now have working RC2.11
13. Reboot into recovery
14. Flash RC3. No wipe. Kernel will be overwritten with Platypus Kernel
15. Reboot and you should be good to go with RC3
I'm sure there are plenty of other methods but this is what always works for when all else fails.
If you follow the above to the letter you will be good to go and running ICS greatness

Thanks!
Thanks for all your help. My phone is working again.
I just flashed darky's resurrection rom 10.2.
I recommend flashing either a newer rooted stock ROM such as jvt or jvu or a more recent custom ROM based on one of the newer firmwares. Darky is a bit last year now.

Because I feel benevolent for those that can not read the ENTIRE thread and I hate for people to not enjoy this awesome ROM. This is not the only way or easiest way but I can guarantee that the below method work every time all the time. Follow the below to a tee and this ROM will be on your phone and working.

next 10 stuck on Cyanogen Boot loader

I''m new to the forum and not as advanced as you all, I have had my nexus 10 unlocked for some time and have been able to install and change roms and even get myself unstuck of a few small problems.
but I can't figure this one out. I updated my cyanogen to 10.1.3 and when I did and the nexus restarted its stuck on the cyanogen symbol when its booting up.. I let it sit there for a while and nothing, I then shut it down and started it up again and nothing.....I then shut it down started it up holding power and volume so I could go in that way and it is still stuck.

Try reflashing it.
I had an issue with GApps and Kernels and such, and it caused a bootloop. Kept using my Android 4.3 kernel on a 4.2.2 ROM... Did you downgrade from 10.2 to 10.1.x?

I hope its not bricked, it also won't shut off, just keeps rebooting if you try to shut it off.

To get into the bootloader, hold Vol-Up, Vol-Down, and power. Vol-Up/Power is not the bootlaoder config. Then go to recovery, do a factory reset, and just flash the CM image and GApps.

Stuck on LG logo

Hi, today for the first time I tried to flash a custom rom
at the ROM installation guide it said that I must have TWRP 2.7, so I installed that and wiped Dalvik cache, cache, system and data.
Did not touch internal storage.
I rebooted because I felt kinda lost at the baseband part. but now it's stuck on the LG logo, with the LED light working with rainbow colors (like the phone always does when I turn it on, but it has no OS now..)
I tried getting into recovery/download mode with no success, what can I do now?
How can I get back into recovery mode?
Hope someone can help :fingers-crossed: Thanks!

make sure your phone is powered off entirely and then
How To Reboot Recovery - LG G2
1.Turn your phone off.
2.Press volume down and power button until the LG logo comes on screen
3.Let go of both buttons
4.Hold the volume down and power buttons again until you see the "hard reset screen"
5.Press power once and then power again to confirm. The screen says it will reset your device but it will not as long as you have a custom recovery installed.
6.Your custom recovery should appear on screen.
If that doesn't work then you are going to have to go back to stock
I tried going back to stock but no success, the software is not recognizing the phone...
I also looked for videos on youtube, but couldn't find someone with simillar problem to mine.
Nevermind, figured it out.

If you don't mind. What did it for you? Once I install CWM or TWRP, I can boot to recovery by cannot get the system to boot - EVER - without getting stuck at the LG LOGO. The only way I can recover at that point is to use the LGFlashTool and start from scratch.
Thanks!

[Q] ODIN fails while installing TWRP, stuck at boot

I was trying to upgrade from CM11 to CM12, which went smooth except for GAPPS closing constantly. I read online that this was caused by an old version of the recovery, so I tried to update TWRP to 2.8.4.0. I first tried using the TWRP app from the Play Store (after recovering my Nandroid backup), which locked the phone where it would only try booting into recovery, but couldn't get there. Holding the power button to turn it off would result in a reboot right back into recovery, which of course never went anywhere. Now I am trying to re-install TWRP using ODIN but It fails every time [Complete(Write) operation failed.] I have an early S4 from AT&T and it has never had an official update. I can't remember which firmware it is using, but it is the original so I shouldn't have any problems there. Can anybody help me get this thing up and running with either TWRP or CWM and CM12 please?!
If someone here can help you, they will. But you might have better luck asking over at http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att as this is the International S4 section.
Sorry, I didn't catch that. Thank you.
Just for the record, I have been able to get the phone to boot by first booting into Download mode, then hitting the Volume Down button to cancel. This has twice booted it back into the OS. Still no recovery though.
Solved
I was able to install TWRP 2.8.4.0 from the app after getting the device to boot. It worked correctly this time and all appears to be well. Odd that ODIN didn't work though.
Just a quick suggestion...
You just need to hold down both VOLUME buttons + POWER button + HOME key to REBOOT. No need to CANCEL, etc. This is how to reboot at any stage.
