[Q] How's battery life with gaming? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How is the battery life on this phone while gaming? Does it significantly drain the battery? Are you able to get through a whole day without recharging while also playing some games among doing other tasks?

I can get thru a whole day with about 90+ minutes of screen time playing tapped out and maybe another 20 minutes of angry birds. Also streaming SiriusXM and podcasting. I'm currently on hour 18 11% left with almost 3 hours screen time on the vzw version.

pretty good! How graphic intensive is tapped out compared to something such as the modern combat games?

Probably not as intensive as modern combat games. It's just mind numbing and that's all I need to help decompress while on the sh!tter.

Battery life

Hello all, I have seen a few posts about battery life on the galaxy s 2. I collected mine yesterday, full charge last night, been using it all day, on either wifi our hspda, battery life is still at 50%. Been watching videos, playing angry birds, a lot of internet and the odd phone call. My old desire hd normally died around mid afternoon with this much usage, have to day, massively impressed. Oh brilliant phone as well.

This post made me
Yeah nice to know battery performance is improved!
thanks
I'm not impressed so far. Killed mine in less than 9 hours today from full charge.
I am in the first 48 hour period, had played a bit of Angry Birds, shown off how well it handles Flash and all that gubbins, but still, 9 hours is pretty pants.
Maybe the FM Radio is a battery hog, I did have it on for a good few of those hours...
9 hours of battery within first 48 hours translates into roughly 2 full days after the first month.
Yeah true, people must forget they never leave it alone at first and they moan the battery aint too good , novity wheres off and the real readings will show
With a good rom my captivate would last 2 days so I am hoping the SGS 2 lasts at least that long.
i've got sgs2 as well. using it with half brightness level almost never turned display off installing and surfing non stop it's been 1.5 hour 20% consumption.
I'm getting about 10 hours with very heavy usage out of it at the moment. I still haven't given it a full charge cycle from dead yet so I think that should gimme a bit more juice.

I am just about to finish a 12 hour guard shift and still have 60% battery. And I hammered it!

There is lot more going in Android compare to Omnia which has silly{useless to be precise} widgets running,symbian^3 in N8 rather does a better job & thus less battery life then Omnia but still better then any other droid.
Here in Android you have anywhere b/w 5 to 7 home screens, widgets running in background & whole lot of things, that's the main reason why Android is always said to have an average battery life. The likes of SGS 2 & Atrix {with huge batteries} are really doing a good job here.Compare it to utter bull**** battery life in HTC Desire HD for example & you will know what i am saying
Do you guys have Latitude turned on?
I've got 10 hours and 9 hours from my first two days.
I'm worried about the Social Hub. I logged in to Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, Google Talk and now realise I can't remove these accounts?!?!!? If it's constantly checking all that, it's going to drain my battery very quick
I see many test on battery, and all say it is normal.
With a good rom will do better

Insane Battery Drainage

Hey, I got my nexus 4 a couple days ago and have been messing around with it. I recently went back to stock and flashed franco kernel. I just played about ten minutes of Modern Combat 4 and my battery fell more than 10%!!! I think it was fine when I first got it so I hope I didnt damage my battery somehow. I did run like 3 mins of stresstest but I did not let my battery temp get higher than 40 degrees Celsius. My CPU temp did hit 70 though and throttled. Im really baffled as what to do... When playing MC4 my phone did not feel overly hot and when I checked my battery temps were around 35 degrees.

Gaming on a cellular device does eat up a lot of juice. Especially a game with great graphics like modern combat. I see you have red lines in your battery status. You must have bad signal or no signal from where you are. That drains battery power as well as it tends to draw more power to try to connect to the cell tower/antenna. (Just in case you didn't know)

I actually dont have a sim card in yet, since I just got the phone.
I've found the phone goes longer between charges since I've broken it in a bit - a few months' charge / recharge cycles (plus expecting to need to recharge after a heavy gaming sesh) have helped

Even without the SIM card it still scans and connects to the wireless network (or attempts to when there is no signal), any cell phone with or without an active plan legally must be allowed to complete a 911 call.
Just one app's performance is not sufficient to determine the state of the battery. Run the phone for a couple of days (without the game) and get a better idea of the overall performance. I'm not sure what franco's kernel gets for battery life overall, but I'm sure other user's have posted in the thread, compare your use vs life to theirs.
In the future, don't stress test your phone. And don't double post threads please.
But my main question is, should it fall so steeply during a 10 min gaming session? If it kept falling like that I doubt il even be able to get an hour gaming time...

That's normal for MC4. I can completely drain my phone in about two hours playing that game.

Alright thanks. The first day I got it I was able to get 4 hours screen time since I was just installing stuff and readying it up. I just got worried that from my stresstesting for 3 mins I might of damaged the battery somehow. I wont be stresstesting again lol.

That's pretty damn good. Game's tend to use up quite a bit of battery, even games that aren't that intense, I get about 4% drop in ten minutes of playing Plague Inc. I don't imagine that game is nearly as CPU/GPU heavy as MC4. Of course I tend to have screen brightness higher, so that burns juice too.

Battery screwed up?

Yesterday when my n4 was plugged in the charger, I switched in my 3g and clash of clans (a game) for around 10 min. The battery was fully charged at the time of opening the game. After 10 min, my battery was 99%.
Also I've noticed the the battery lasts like 5-6 hours on wifi. My phone is full stock. Now thinking of rooting for a better battery backup. Suggestions?

You're battery is fine. Rooting isn't going to change anything. Playing the game takes a lot of juice and the charger didn't keep up. That's all.

Screen on time

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the OnePlus 6 before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

First charge cycle, only 4g was used, two sims in phone
Here's my second charge cycle. The first one was only 78% to 43% over a working day so no point posting that.
Not quite 8h SOT but I'm happy with this. Day's use included 24 minutes of continuously testing the camera.
Very happy with the sot.

20hrs / 9hrs 15mins SOT!
-------------
95% WiFi / 5% Mobile Data
Auto Brightness
Auto Sync
About 100 messages on WhatsApp
About 10 photos taken
1 minute 4K 1080 video recorded
Loads of twitter
Loads of browsing
30-60mins on Clash Royale
Download of multiple games (3+gb / Asphalt / PUBG / Mario Run / a few Zen Pinball boards)
Asphalt (5mins)
Pinball (10mins)
Music streaming out of speaker for 20mins
Music streaming out of earbuds for 35mins
2 Small videos on YouTube (5mins)
-------------
Normal usage, Spotify streaming almost Everytime screen was on. Played one level of shadowgun legends idk why it isn't in the list maybe it didn't drain that much and 8 ball pool.
My screen on time is pretty less it seems. Is this normal?
Average. That's all I can say. I'll be waiting for a battery case most definitely.
Managed about 7 hours before the battery saver turned on.
About 30 mins playing games, 45 mins videos with high screen brightness and the rest using Chrome.

I'm getting between 4.5-6.5 hrs SOT, i'm pretty happy with that!
interestingly Accubattery only shows a 3010mAh battery looks like mines a bit worse than it should be but still very happy coming from a nexus 6P which struggled to last 3

OP5 Pubg Mobile Battery Usage

Considering A OP5 right now and battery life is very important for me.
I'm pretty sure that the 3300mah battery mated to the sd835 are allright for normal use but how much drain do you get when playing pubg? and at wich settings?
Thanks yall
I've only played it a few times but I didn't notice any any terrible battery drain. However I'm not a big gamer and didn't play for longer than maybe 40 minutes.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A5000 using Tapatalk
I do a fair bit of gaming and played PUBG for a while. I can say the battery life on the OP5 is pretty damn good. I generally get about 3.5 to 4.5 hours of SOT gaming but this is while playing various games not just 1 in one sitting so I can say for certain about how much you will get on PUBG on max settings.
I have been playing Ragnarok M for the past 2.5 hours and I started when my battery was 100%. After 2.5 hours of SOT, I am at 60% right now. Ragnarok M runs at 720p so not as intensive as PUBG.
Update: 4 hours and 40 minutes on Ragnarok M and 18% battery left.

I've always found this phone not exactly great for standby time but very good when it comes to extended heavy usage like watching YouTube videos or browsing and even the occasional times I have played games.

I am using 9.0.3 with xXx Magisk rom 4.3. I use Affinity kernel with L Speed set to the battery profile. I have no issues with lag in gaming with this setup.
I play PUBGM for close to 5 hours on Graphics as 'Smooth' and FPS as 'Extreme' with anti-aliasing turned off along with auto adjust(?) of graphics. I am left with 15 to 20% battery at the end. I am using the OB26 with the stock kernel and no changes to the system apart from bloatware removal. It's also worth noting that I only have ~30 apps installed on my phone and ~10 of them have the permission to stay active in the background.

Will you give a link to OB26? OB24 is on the official website
With stock settings and a good brightness level say about 60% with settings as Smooth and Extreme you can get a 25% per hour drain at the maximum. Mostly it averages between 20 and 25 per hour. So expect a sot of 4 to 4 and half hours.
Also do consider your battery degradation also to account. My phone is almost 2 years old so it has lost some capacity.
