[Q] [L7] Change default contact type - Optimus L3, L5, L7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hiya,
just got my hands on an Optimus L7 LG-P700. Running the stock 4.0.3. Succesfully synced my old Google contacts to the L7, but now if I want to add a new contact, the default contact type is "Phone". I'm liable to forget changing it to "Google" every time I add a new contact, is there any way to select "Google" as default contact type?
Alternatively, are there any third-party Contacts manager apps that would let me select "Google" as contact type once and for all?
Thanks!

you are telling about syncing a new contact to google account,, but i dont get it every time,,may b u can check the account section in settings

Well, yeah, I can do it manually, every time I add a new contact, I can choose "Google" from the drop-down menu. If I choose Google as contact type, it'll sync automatically as soon as I save it. But I was hoping to be able to tell the contacts app to choose "Google" contact type, so I don't have to change it manually every time I add a contact. I've looked in the settings but I can't find the option. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place?

I'm facing the same problem.
I was already looking for a solution and the only suggestion I've discoverd was: export your contacts (as vCard) and re-import them from your google account (website)
This said, I should do this soon as well

I think I misunderstood the question. Anyway this is what I understand how "phone" and "addressbook/people" works in Wildfire.
1) When you key in a number to be saved, you will be prompted where to save, phone or SIM or Exchange (if you have an account) or [email protected] (if you have an account). selection of those will determine where it will be saved.
2) If you have accidentally saved it to your phone, you may not tranfer it to google contact except by manually inputting it into google contact.
3) For "phone" operation when you press the keypads, Wildfire will search in all the database whether stored in phone or SIM or Exchange or Google contacts, and display all that has been found, so you will see multiple similar numbers. So if you have same name in two database with different numbers, you will see two different numbers.
4) When you go to "people" the names listed depends on which "view" (the eye icon) is selected. e.g. if ABCD is in only in "phone" it will not appear if view is google. likewise if WXYX is only in Exchange, it does not appear if view is phone. However regardless what view you are in when you are in phone mode and press the keypads for ABCD or WXYZ, both will be listed.
5) you can sync your google contacts by activating the "Activesync" function (in Settings) - without having to connect your phone to your PC>
AFAIK.

Multiple Contacts Help

Okay so i was just wondering if anyone can help me fix this little problem im having with my contacts when i text.
So whenever i go to compose a message and i want to add a contact, the contact shows up 3 times. For instance i type in "John" and it will give me 3 Johns all with the same number. I only have one John. So does anyone know how to make it just show the persons name and number once? Its not so much an issue but it just kinda bugs me. Im also not synced with google contacts or anything else.
Thanks in advance
I have the same issue also, very annoying..
ditto!!

Yea, same. Is it because we have more then one selected under the options for view when under the regular contacts.... IE---> Phone ---> Contacts ---> View

I dont think its that because i always uncheck all of them and only view contacts from the SIM. I noticed it on both the stock and ICE roms. maybe its a sense thing iono.
If you link your similar contacts, then this problem will be resolved. I think.....

yes, i believe linking your contacts together will solve this problem...
you are probably getting one number from sim and another number from FB.

I tried, still didnt work , maybe its just my phone. thanks
The same thing happens to me when ever I factory reset or what not. Go to your contacts list, pick one of your duplicates, long press and select edit. Press menu key then select join. Pick one of the multiple names and confirm. Then select join again and select the last duplicate of that name. Confirm. Now when you go back to your contact list there should be only one of that name. Repeat for other contacts. Now if your having multiple names pop up when you text still, you need to edit contacts again and this time delete all the duplicates.

Those 2 methods should fix your problem until you factory reset. Rebooting your phone will not undo the changes, but again a factory reset will, ie, whenever you flash a new rom

Glad I Looked Here First
I was about to start a new thread defining the same issue. Got my G4 last week and experienced the multiple contacts on the native apps. Using "Companionlink" to sync my Outlook contacts with "DejaOffice". Works like a champ so far but it does seem like unnecessary duplication.

I always forget to change the location before save.
Can i change the default location?
I remember that my old se arc can change it.
I'm pretty sure it asks you where you want to save when you enter a new contact.
Thanks Devs. From my VZW G2.
Not even sure why there is am option. Bugs me you can save stuff to the"phone" when it should be automatically saved to Google.

Ii always forget to change this setting when add new contact.
I don't have that problem. I only display my Google contacts and untick the other options. When I enter a number and save it, it automatically saves it to Google. :sly:

FWIW, it is my preference to exchange all email via an alternative mail server, for privacy and security.
My Gmail account does not exist on my phone, so there would not be a reason (for me) to use anything other than phone contacts, calendars, etc., bypassing Google altogether.

Yes I was having this problem saving new contacts. I thought it was a problem with root or my clean rom install them realized my contacts were saving to att phone book and new entries would not sync so I was entering the same contacts in practically every day. Had a duh moment them switched to my Google account to store my contacts.

When you tape the "+" button to add a new contact, you have a list of your contact storage places (phone, google, sim, etc...), juste switch to your google account to save your new contact to it

He wants to set in the built in Contacts app, that contacts save to his Google account by default. I looked in on your instructions, and there is no clear default there.
I wondered the same thing to.

Sorry, not contacts storage, but just plain contacts. Its under all apps. Scroll down and you will see "Clear Defaults". Next time you save a contact it will ask again which account to save it under and you choose Google this time.

It actually dosen't change. I tried it, and it remains the same. It just defaults it to phone contacts.
I just went to contacts, pressed the + sign to add a new contact, and it went to Google by default. Not sure why its not working for you.
Thanks Devs. From my VZW G2.

Weird that it's not the same for everyone !!
Maybe it depends on phone model ? I have D802 on my side.

Same problem here, default to saving to Phone Contacts.
D802 Asian ROM HERE
I have same problem
Please help
Going to Phone Dialer -> type in # -> hit Add to Contacts -> select New contact, the New contact window will pop up, at the very top, tap on the drop down menu, choose either Phone or Google or SIM. Do the rest.

I have been searching for the same sir. The other thread that was made on this, came up with nothing.
The default behaviour of android is to save to the last location selected, but the G2 phonebook doesn't seem to allow changing from the default which is the phone memory.
Rooting the device and tinkering with the APK for the phonebook could do something, but apart from that, I havn't been able to find a solution.
Plus one on this one

Just edit the contact and at the very top it will show where its saved, click there and chose where u want to save it to (select the gmail acct u want to use). Also you can export all your contacts to a file then login to your gmail from a computer and import that file.

Same with calendar's.
anyone found work around to this? My galaxy S2 can do it easily, once I save my 1st contact to gmail, it sets gmail as my default contact storage and I don't have to keep selecting gmail every time I want to save a new contact. But with G2 I have to keep selecting every time I want to add new contact to the list.
+1 here... (I started another thread and now I found this one with same problem)
In calendar it shows only selected calendars that is ok. And somehow it uses my default google account for calendars.
But in contacts it gives option to save to "phone, SIM, google account 1 and google account2" and default is phone.
lg g2
I have KK 4.4.2 and i have the same problem. It's very annoying...Everytime i have to change when i want to save a contact.
Thanks to this feature (bug), I have lost quite a few contacts.
This is a serious issue which can potentially prevent you from getting laid. If you know what I mean.

Sorry for bumping old thread, but is there any fix for this?
Its annoying to click every time to change sync from phone to google, plus, I lost many contacts because of this when changed the ROM
the bug is still present in lollipop
Same bug in the G3.
I wonder if the G4 suffers from it as well.
I wish for an xposed module would fix it.
