I listen to my music almost none stop for 8 hours at work and I have found a very annoying problem that I can not seem to track down. About 20 mins after I start listening to music at full audio volume my volume automatically turns down to about half way. I will turn the volume back up to full (100%) and again about 10-20 mins later the volume decreases on it's own to about half (50%). This problem persist throughout the day! I thought it may be a notification setting however it is not. Ive turned to airplane mode and still happens all day long. Please help me fix this. Thank you.

Not sure why that is happening, but you could set something up with Tasker to fix this if you want.
Could it be a power saving related event? Do you have power savings enabled?

I am starting to wonder if it may be do to the headphones. I do not have another paid at this time to test this out. The pair I have right now is the SOL Republic. Here is a link to the site to explain what type of headphones I have.

Could this be the cause of the automatic decrease in volume?

I seem to notice this behavior as well, but my volume does not turn down (or so it says). It just seems to be quieter and I have to turn my car up louder to have the same volume. Checking the sound level on the phone it looks to be the same place I set it at. However if I unplug, and then re-plug the cord in the phone resets audio to about halfway "for your protection" and if I then turn it up to where I had just had it set and where the phone says the volume supposedly was, it is louder than just a second or two before when I was listening. So I really think the phone software lies about volume and LG is in fact turning things down because they pop up all kinds of warnings and stupid behavior about extended listening at loud volumes.
There is another thread around here about viper4Android and DAC tuning. Apparently the phone had quite an advanced DAC but requires tuning to get the best out of it. Maybe the DAC itself has done sort of protection build in?
The mod requires root.

I have been unable to reproduce it, with the stock LG ear buds.
I suspect it is related to the DAC, maybe temperature safeguard of sorts?

When I plug in the headphones(the one's included) the output comes from the speaker AND headphnes at the same time? I might be a lil tipsy but I can't find in the menu for this....I just wanna hook up my headphones and quietly jam out. But can't!

How did you guys fix this? I tried battery pull and turned on/off but no luck. The headphones quality sounds horrible when this happens. Starting to think it's a hardware issue? Thanks for your help.

All I did was did a battery pull. Left it out for about 10 seconds, then put it back in. I must say the sound quailty is nice(headphones that were included). I came from a moment and sound was low....on here its loud

I had the headphones/speaker playing today at the same time as well, it happened when I didn't push the headset in all the way and then backed it out and replugged. It probably botched the software up going in/out/in like that, probably locked the external speaker on.
Yours, on the other hand, sounds like hardware. When the cable gets wonky on my aux wire, I get severe quality issues and I can kind of imagine what you're getting at with yours. Make sure that the plug clicks all the way in, and if the problem keeps happening - hardware it is.
Just what the title says. I'm getting no sound at all. I've messed with every volume control and am stumped.

Working now. Weird! I may have a lemon with the sound.
Of course the sound has to stop working when I'm showing a fanboy how awesome it is and how much better it is then the iPad.

I'm having the same issue.
I'm using it with no issues for a while then no sound... rebooting it doesn't help.
I can plug in a head set but no speaker at all.
Sometimes emails notifications come through but that's about it.
Been on the phone waiting for google support now. Been waiting for about 30 minutes now...
This SUCKS!

Had the same problem within five hours of having it. Sound went out playing Final fantasy III. Did a factory reset, nothing. Was on hold with google play for 45 min before I gave up. Sound started working again for a while, cut out again when playing FFIII again. Would say it is the game but the factory reset didn't fix it. Sound came back on during the night while I slept, has stayed on since. Waiting to see how it goes and to find out if it is a software issue before I try to RMA it. Did sent google an email though.
I did a hard reset (held the power button down for 10 seconds) and its been fine since.

Problem is back.
It makes a sound like a record scratching then no sound. If you tap the back of the tab it tries to make sounds but fails. Must be a hardware issue.

Every now and then, when opening an app or using the system buttons at the bottom, a very short "click" noise comes from the speaker. I have my N4 on silent/vibrate all the time and it is not an operating system noise that's meant to be there because its random. The best way to describe it is that it seems like the phone is "accidentally" starting to play a sound then stopping because its realised its in silent mode.
Anyone else getting this? Views on this problem?
(It happened again as I was typing this, so it happens through the the keyboard key presses as well)

Maybe you have to turn down the media volume.
I don't have a nexus 4, but I do get that random click noise on my incredible s as well, and from many different roms. I am not sure what it is, though.
Key press noise in settings turn it off may stop it the Gnex had this issue and still does

I get that click noise occasionally on my HTC HD2.
Running PACMAN 4.1.2 Jellybean at the moment.
I had this issue as well. I just turned off touch sounds and all is well.
I should note that I have keyboard sounds enabled and I do not experience the random clicking noise.
It seems to be isolated to the enabling of touch sounds, whether on vibrate or any audible volume.

I have the autofocus rattle issue as well. But I rarely if ever would shake my phone like that.
At this point I am just grateful that I got my phone, let alone got my phone earlier than projected. There are a lot of people that would love to hear the rattling of the autofocus on their N4.

Power Management
Ok... I think this is correct,
The audio chip like most other IC's are entering power saving mode milliseconds after you hear any audio so the small click is the powering up and down of the audio hardware... Many phones do this and many people don't notice it.
It's quite normal but if you have very good hearing it might bother some more then others.

It seems like a touch sound issue.
Make sure you've got touch sounds turned off by going:

You can go to Settings>Sound and disable "Safe headset volume" or find something else at Sound that might cause it, I can't tell you exactly because i don't have the phone myself.
No such options on stock rom any other suggestions ?

I also want to know how to disable this annoying pop up, worst thing is you absolutely need to press ok to crank up the volume.... I hate it!!

I can hear distortion while using headphones on my g2 from T-Mobile, anyone having the same problem?
Sent from my LG-D801 using xda app-developers app
No, I got a new set of headphones for it a few days ago and I use it in the car hooked up thru auxillary input and sounds perfect both ways.
Was hearing it while charging, can anyone test for me. Thanks

I was charging and playing music on my way to Vegas and back last week and had no issues. Maybe it is just your headphones and a bad impedance match up to the audio out.

I was also listening with the volume maxed out, which should be the place where distortion is heard most if there is any. Do you hear the distortion problem at max volume only or anywhere on the volume scale?
