If you guys seen the new gadget Asus Memo on CES2012 you may already have recognised it is a great implementation of ICS which i think might be what Galaxy Note should be with ICS upgrade instead of regular touchwiz phone interface. What do you guys think about it? Maybe we can effect the development progress of ICS for Galaxy Note in this direction. For those who haven't seen the new OS on Asus Memo could check out this early preview video :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=su5yjTGKt3k
I'm still hoping for some kind of dual boot option. With the option to run it as a phone, or as a tablet. It's pretty sad to see that Samsung is gonna put a lot of TouchWiz stuff over the phone's ICS.
That Asus looks very nice though. Smooth as hell, nice design etc.
I would love to see that on my Note.
I think the tablet+phone can be arranged simply by adding a button on top bar to change dpi from 320 to 213 then all apps will suit themselves in tablet mode and booting is not even needed just a simple system restart will do. Touchwiz looks terrible on 213dpi tho so there has to be an improved version of touchwiz to adapt itself to resolution changes or they may better leave touchwiz for a better ui like asus memo has. I like it cause u can still see icons in normal size yet u still have capability of all those features comes with at least honeycomb version like functional buttom bar.
Why cant we have the option of a pure ics experience or one with touchwiz.....i loved windows mobile for that.......i hate touchwiz....the moment i got my note i installed a launcher! Hope samsung reads these threads
I hope ICS release for Gnote would not be exactly the same as latest leaked roms for Galaxy S II as published on this short review video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YotByxd3Bo . This looks so like recent gingerbread roms we been already using. This is perfectly normal as nobody expects tablet specific features on Galaxy S 2 but in GNote case we all wanna see a brand new ui taking advantage of ics like Asus did on their "Memo" devices.
I've just seen this latest Galaxy S2 leaked ics video and worried Gnote ICS release may not come with some tablet specific features to feel more like honeycomb ui instead of regular touchwiz interface.

I don't understand what problems you have with Touchwiz. The first thing I do after installing a new rom is just delete all stuff related with Touchwiz (even the Touchwiz launcher) and then install another launcher like Go Launcher Ex. In fact Galaxy Note does not need the bloatware software provided by Samsung at all but SMemo and a couple of programs that you can run with other launchers.
So in case Samsung releases the ICS with Touchwitz I will delete it.

Even with another launcher it will still be a phone with huge screen. I'd rather like to see a tablet-like ui like Asus Memo has. I don't have any problems with touchwiz but I think they should at least add a buttom bar like honeycomb and ics tablets have.

Here comes a trolling scoop .......
IT IS A PHONE WITH A HUGE SCREEN......
I don't know for you, but I bought it because it is a phone.
If not I would have bought something like a HTC flyer.....taller screen and less expensive...
A phone with a huge screen deserves buttom bar like ics imao considering hardware specs and so much space avaible on the so called huge screen ! Don't you guys think so? They have buttom bar on the rumor device Galaxy S 3 so why not for flag ship Gnote?

Ok guys,
Samsung's new flagship, the Galaxy S III, was released yesterday.
As I saw the new UI my first thought was "I want this this and this for my S2!"
So what are your thoughts...
New TouchWiz?
Only the Lockscreen with App Shortcuts?
Only the "nature" animations?
Ported stuff (yet)
TouchWiz UX - Here
S-Voice (fixed = no build.prop needed!) - Here (Download)
Accu Weather Widget - Here (Download)
PopUp Play (just a solution) - Here
will add the remaining stuff later...
I kinda like the new touchwiz. Not sure if its out for the GS2 atm, but if it's not, I'm sure it will get ported back to the GS2 by a kind developer (maybe as a whole launcher).
All that nature stuff is bs. Who are they marketing for? 50 year old wemon?
I'd like the stay awake feature, perhaps the voice control for driving, seems a lot better than the current one.
Will add a poll later this Day...

Hehe, I was thinking of that kind of topic when I see yours
TW? Hum I'm not sure when you came from AOSP, pure Google experience that you want this
S-Blablabla? For example S-Voice: yes! All the S-blablabla are really interesting, the smartphone become really smart with these stuff, so I think this is where the S3 is great for us
If we can port these stuff, why should we buy a new S3? It only has a quadcore and à 720p Screen, and everybody knows that for the moment our Dualcore are correct...Until the S4
But another problem... the S3 has a bigger battery and I think the S-blabla can drain our battery really fast because they use the hardware (like the front cam) in background...So do we need a sort of S2 with S3 stuff but a dramatic battery life?
Id like a full port of everything lol
GOOGLE stuff r better then TW of SGS2 for ICS but not for GB (SAMSUNG adds so maney stuff that users that try AOSP allways ask why cant i find X and Y that i used to have in stock)
and now they done it again
the new TW looks better then GOOGLE stock and with TW stuff in it its better then the GOOGLE original
S-voice , TouchWiz Nature UX with all stuff and water-like lockscreen
p.s. - port of everything posible ))
I wouldnt have thought this would even need to be discussed, of course these bits and bobs are going to be ported to ROMS, shouldnt be too difficult either as its the same chipset, just another two cpu's strapped on.
What I am interested in with this Thread is, why people want especially "this" feature
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
For those who are disappointed because of the spec. I'd say just go away.
Samsung realized that pushing hardware is enough for android now( it's really useless since every phones from other market brings the similar specs.)
so put some great effort to bring out the best user experiences with all those new cool features.
I don't think we will be able to port any functionality but S voice since i heard it fetches data from server.
The whole ROM, the new TW is nice (i still dont like it much, but it's better than the GS2 one), i love all the new features especially stay awake function and the camera improvement.
If possible, I would like every new feature. (even the touchwiz ui)
but most of all the S voice to go hands free.
Touchwiz
The touchwiz looks way better than the one on the gs2. S voice functions not so much till it completely understand natural language. On the whole yeah pushing the specs not that high is a good move and better yet focus on their feel and look
I'm sick of everyone saying I want aosp or cm9 unless u can get all the neat touch wiz features on them ill take touchwiz anyday even the current one. I hope this gets ported to my s2.

native, non-hacky exFAT.
S VOICE & the lockscreen. Other things are hardware related. Not expecting anything else

I was just wondering if you can use the galaxy s4 samsung camera insteady of the cyanogen mod camera with custom rom cyanogen 10.1 or is there any other custom rom that you can use with s4 samsung camera? might be a stupid question
PS-
Can you also keep like the other features by samsung, like s beam, nfc, air gestures, air view, smart scroll things like that?
Please follow the rules you agreed to when you joined.
Simple answer is No. It is one or the other.

Hello.
I'm in the mood for some discussion. Currently waging which rom to install on my note, TouchWiz or latest android (4.3). How would you people rate a 4.1.2 rom built on correct sources against the latest version of Android? Performance, battery and user friendly wise.
Bring it on!
/pemell
This is the original Galaxy Note (GT-N7000) forum.
Jeez, just realised that. Was looking my ass off to find my thread
Actually, I own a N7000 device too so why not let it stay, I'll just change the op a little.
Built on correct sources? Grmpf... They (Samsung) don't provide proper sourced, but if they did, I would prefer an aftermarket firmware version of Android 4.3 with correct sources over a Gingerbread UI built Touchwiz rom... Or even a Galaxy Note Google Edition would suite my Note well
but... how is an aosp 4.3 in comparison with TW 4.1.2? i searched a lot but i dont find any comments about the batterie or the overal performance... and what about the spen? is there a note taking app in aosp?
Touchjeez sux!
I'd rather trust my nethers to a lunatic with a Burdizzo than have TW on my Note.
it is so simple
if you are looking for speed , stability and up-to-date go with aosp or cm
if you you want s-pen stuff and more useless stuff like smart stay the tw will be your target
P.s : i bought the note just for the spen feature so i think i will stick with TW for a while

AA1973, chasmodo, you're still here in the n7000 section. Even if I never knew you by person or chatted with you on this forum It was heart touching seeing your replies in this thread.
I'm on SlimBean v.8 stable currently on my N7105 and jellybeer on my N7000. I'm thinking of switching to TW on my N7105 to get the best out of the battery. My knowledge says TW has better battery life. I might be wrong.
A deal breaker for me is that I had my current theme chooser theme ported for touchwiz.
I don't use SPen in a daily basis but now and then when I have to annotate picture, my Note shines. Once I had to go buy handbag for my lady and there were two dozen at the store neatly decorated. I snapped, numbered them from 1 to 20 using SPen and sent picture through Whatsapp.
If one buys Note to put ROM that doesn't support SPen, then I don't understand why they buy Note at all?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
You don't need to understand. Of course, the SPen does work. Not identically as on a Touchdizz Rom, but you're able to draw 1-20 on pictures, fore sure
Papyrus, Jotter, Gnote, Memo Beta, Skitch are some apps as alternative to S-Not.

but chief you are going to miss a lot of features like gestures and s-note and i did not find a decent alternate to s-note yet
I only got the Note for its Hardware so i can stick an AOSP inside in it.
I dont use Stylus. Never wanted to.
4.1.2 vs 4.3 is Light years a head Maybe more than a year when you can think of an update if they are even planning to provide one.
You never know Samsung can surprise us

The most important gestures *for me* are integrated in CM, AOSPA, slimbean etc: Left, right, up and down swipe as well as long press and double tap.
Actions to be chosen are back, home, menu, recent apps or you choose a specific app to be launched. That's enough for me.
No, personally, I think I do not miss S-note and I definitely do not miss Touchwiz
The infamous screenshot feature via S-Pen or the hand can easily be replaced
The SPen wasn't the killer feature and reason I bought the Note. It was nice to have, but not a must have for me. The main reason at that moment of time was the screen size and some other hardware specs. But this is way OT for a 4.12 vs 4.3 discussion
I was thinking of buying a new phone because touchwiz was so slow now and I thought that was the norm of phones used for more than a year.
As last desperation I installed asylum 4.3 and I just saved myself a whack of money because finally this phone is usable again.

Show me one AOSP/CM ROM that is as stable and battery friendly as TouchWiz... right, there is none. Still, like we men tend to do stupid things like ducktaping us to the ceiling, we throw away stock stable experience for flashing madness )
My favorite TouchWiz-ROM: Live Note 5.2 (well its just stock)
Favorite AOSP-ROMs: Utackas Paranoid android (fairly stable overall), FSC ROM (awesome customizations)

LMFAO
Quick Question
Do you think Samsung would provide a major UI overhaul over 4.4 KitKat update due January?
Maybe reduce on the comic styled blocks and chop it down to more mnmlstic style designs and reduce strain on RAM and other features to improve batt life and reduce heat generated on gaming and other functions.
I really want to downgrade from MJ4 to MJ1 but unfortunately, I don't think it will ever be possible. Thus I am looking for bigger and better thing's in the future to ease my pain of these destructive OTA updates.
No.
Bigger and better things: Cm just released sources.
Goodbye tw
Samsung is and will try to not make any major changes to the UI so users become accustomed to and and aren't thrown off by updates and get used to Samsung products. Its ment for the "average" user and generally no anyone on these fourms.

Hopefully they at least update the icons. I'm using Nova with the 4.4 icons enabled and it's so much sleeker.
for my opion TW isn't that bad except for the statusbar and Dropdown menu!! those could be a bit more sexy!!! like sony or something!

They won't ever make it look like aosp because they want thier own look. Plus with tizen os which looks just like tw

hahaha true that. Most likely I will just go custom.
I am looking forward to what devs would do for the S Pen features which will be lost if flashing AOSP ROMs.

Developer won't do anything for spen on aosp because it should still work like normal. You just need to look for similar apps on play store to replace whatever function you want.
