[Q] Stock Email App: set to manual sync, still pushing - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm pretty sure the stock email app is syncing through push, altough it's set to check mails only every hour. Mails are received on my phone even before they show up in Outlook.
Is it just imagination? BBS shows more alarms for the email app than needed for syncing my 3 accounts once an hour. I've noticed this behaviour since many wipes, using different gapps.

google mail app mailsend issue

Anyone having send/recieve issues with the gmail app?
I just tried sending a bunch of photos to a seperate account and recieved the message twice, but sending through the android email app over IMAP seems to send normally.
Can't for the life of me see what the problem is.
Hi, I just got my Magic a couple of days ago and I have noticed issues with google mail.
A couple of times now I have checked the mail through the google mail icon on my phone and it has shown Inbox (1) but just doesn't download the message to my phone.
I have tried sync'ing it but it just takes forever to come down. No issues with signal at the time so not really sure what is wrong. One time the email did turn up after I manually sync'ed about 5 times and the other time I logged onto my google mail via the browser rather then the app and read the email, (that email never did arrive on my phone!?)
Hopefully some kind email genius will come along and help us both ;0)
Well I've noticed after setting the email account up through the android app that gmail seems to sync properly now and notify about new mails, though I haven't gotten around to testing if the send is working properly or not on the gmail app.
Incidentally I also switched down to 2G to save battery, but I don't think that'd have an impact...

Extremely slow email Sync

Running stock Nexus S with background data and auto-sync both checked in settings. I'm running the mail app not the gmail app and have 3 accounts setup on IMAP with 15 min sync. Weather/news widget also does not sync. I have it set to every 6 hours and when I just checked it said last update 18hr ago??
1. It does not sync in 15
2. When I manually sync each account it is way slow
3. Weather/news sync also slow
I think the phone has some confusion running wifi + 3G
Any suggestions?? Others with similar issues? I'm used to instant sync on IMAP on 2G!
not a single reply??
I don't use the mail app (Gmail app) but I've heard that not using push when using IMAP leads to the phone failing to sync and draining the battery really fast eventually. It happens when it tries to sync during one of the scheduled syncs and there's no service at the time or something, and then it goes fubar. Not sure if they've fixed this, but it was doing it on my friend's Nexus One until I changed it to push.
Anyway, is your battery noticeably bad for some strange reason? =)

[Q] Email app not syncing IMAP

Hi,
I'm using the stock EMAIL app that comes on the phone (not sure if this is the stock Jelly bean app or a Samsung version). I'm using it because it works with my work's Exchange email/calendar nicely. I also have a Gmail account and my personal Email (my own website with email support) which is IMAP. The Exchange and Gmail seem to work fine. I have Exchange setup for push and I'll sometime get emails even before my desktop/Outlook see them. I don't use Gmail that much (only a couple emails a week) so I set it up to sync every 4 hours and that seems fine.
My personal IMAP account I get probably 30 email a day. I set up the program to sync every 10 minutes. It seems to just stop syncing for some reason I cant figure out. For example today, I received several emails overnight and a couple in the morning and the phone synced them fine. When I got to work and checked ~11am I had 5 messages waiting (using Thunderbird on my desktop) and when I checked the phone it didn't have them. If I go to the Inbox it says last sync was at 8:49am. The program will then do a sync and presto, all 5 messages popped up. But now all day the phone will not sync unless I go check my inbox which appears to force a sync.
So I know the information (account, password,..) are OK since it manually syncs no problem. I didn't try today but in the past if I change the sync interval to something else (5 or 15 minutes) it seems to sync for a while and then stop again. I tried deleting the account and then re-created it and that seemed to work for a while.
I have "sync while roaming set" and I do not set up a peak sync schedule so it should always be the same.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

[Q] Email Sync After KitKat update

Since the update to kitkat, my S4 has been syncing and downloading email messages right around midnight (11:42 last night, 12:04 the night before, etc.) I have a pop3 email account set up (Comcast) and sync is turned on except that I have sync settings set to manual. Before kitkat, it would only retrieve email when I opened the app and actually hit the sync button. What changed in kitkat to cause it to retrieve email late at night? I've checked the settings and searched the forum. Any ideas? I could turn sync off entirely, but would have to turn it on each time I want to manually retrieve my email.

Click to collapse
Go to e-mail : Menu button-> settings->Account Settings->Click on e-mail you want to change Sync etc... Sync settings...
Good luck..
Thanks. I've already done that before I posted. All are set to manual sync. I will try deleting and setting up account again.

Press on gmail app from the phone and it will pop up sync email enable or disable. Uf you enable then them. Do for serveal time order it to eat. I have the same issues. Be careful with pop setup it pulling everything from the servers and transfer to ur phone without make copy to the servers, unless that is what u want.

I have the same issue, two email accounts set to manual sync that automatically pull emails once a day without me opening the program.
The only solution I've found is to turn on sync each time you want to check your email and then off again when you're done. This is a hassle and I wish there was a better solution. Something has to be triggering the event.
I'm also having this same problem.

Issues with constant email re-syncing with stock mail app

Hi all,
I have the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (SM-N910C) on version 5.1.1
I'm not sure when I first noticed this, but my phone seems to be constantly re-syncing emails and ramping up to thousands of unread emails, notifying me (there are no new emails) then on next sync, they all go back down again to the correct 'unread' emails.
Then randomly (more noticeable if I force a manual sync) it ramps back up again to thousands of unread emails (not correct) and if I force another manual sync, it drops back down again to the same number of correct unread emails...
Not only is this eating through my data, but also through my battery and more annoying, I keep on getting notified of new emails that I don't have!
I have over mail 10 accounts set up on my phone and this happens to most of them, some times all of them, some times just one of them, it seems completely random.
The accounts are all set up as POP/SMTP not IMAP and I am using the stock email app.
Whether relevant or not, it also notifies me of new emails during the night when sync is off, which is probably the most annoying part of this. I have done a factory reset and the issue persists.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
