anyone have a rom they can suggest that has pa pie? I am using pa now and don't take advantage of anything it offers except for pie. I use faux kernel and need lte.. I love pie with easy access to tiles and notifications... so what rom can I try with pa pie... lte.. that gets great battery life and can use faux kernel?
thanks

Press thanks if I helped you.
I do not like slimbean pie. or lmt pie.. I am very picky when it comes to pie!

Quick question, which kernels are you fellow XDA users insaling on the N7 with the stock android? That gives you best performance and battery life? Also which 4.2.1 Roms do you prefer? I just got my N7 so i didn;t have time to test everything. I'd like to get a popular opinion on this :victory:

You can use trickster mod (available in the play store) to tweak the kernel. TapaTalk HD is currently in beta. You can dpfindnit on the tapatalk forums.

I've rooted and flashed to a custom kernel on 4.2. Will it be the same process (flash to stock before updating from 4.1.2 to 4.2) if I want to upgrade to 4.2.1?

Yep, it will be the same process! Just make sure you have custom recovery.
I'm loving Stock 4.2.1 with M-Kernel running 51Mhz-1500Mhz, with GPU max 660 with zRAM, and smart dimmer.
Great battery life and very smooth.
I have used trinity, Franco and there isn't much to compare.

I'm going to hijack this thread
With M-kernel do you notice weak game performace? Or it just don't seem to be any difference from stock?

Can't say I spent much time on stock kernel tbh
All games I play run fairly smooth but then none are that demanding to start with.

Hello all, I have a Nexus S device.
Before JB I use to flash CM every day and it works great. Now I have installed official JB and I want to speed-up my little machine.
Which ROM/kernel do you recommend?
I need stability and battery life.
Thanks and best regards.

I have this combo too. Everything is smooth and the battery life is very good.
Gesendet von meinem Nexus S mit Tapatalk 2
There is no "best" combo and often these types of threads are closed. Why? Every phone runs in a different way. I say pick 1 ROM and kernel, give it 2 days and then switch it up. It is easy to clean install with TB. Example: try Cm10 stable version with latest marmite. Then try it with Matr1x kernel, etc. Then try AOKP with marmite, Matr1x, Trinity, etc. then try another ROM with ....
Find what is best for YOU. We all like different things and all our phones perform different on different combos.
Flash and have fun!
Thanks!
I will try CM10 with marmite.
Best regards.
I'd recommend Paranoid Android with matr1x kernel....lightning fast, very stabile, fully-featured, CM-based, and the best battery life of any combo for me
Everyone has their own preferences, so really it comes down to what you are looking for. Personally I'm running Strawberry (Metal Dragon Overlord or whatever) and Marmite 7.1. I'm not quite ready to test the 4.2 ROMs, but I know people who are running them and loving them.
Hell - people like to go back to Gingerbread!

Me too!
I'm on RasbeanJelly + AirKernel, great combo too.
I'm on CM10 but haven't flashed a different kernel..
Really happy of phone's performance so far but perhaps battery life is improvable..
Since so many of you are happy with Marmite I guess I'll give it a shot..
I'm coming from AOKP JB milestone1 which was the best JB ROM i had tried since to days ago.I now have Jellyshot with marmite kernel and everything is smooth and stable. If you want a JB rom try this.
Could somebody port jellyshot to the ns4g?

Ok people,
I have CM10 and followed your advise.. just flashed Marmite 7.1 kernel
I was expecting to see in kernel version (in phone settings) something like Marmite 7.1 blabla.. instead I see an 3.0.52-bedalus_CM-0347--blablabla..
I know mr Bedalus is the developer of Marmite, but anyway I just wanna make sure and make this stupid question..
Do you see the same blabla kernel version as I do or have I somehow not flashed the kernel right
forgive my noobness

Sounds like everything is fine. Enjoy. Try other ROM and kernel combinations to find the one you like best. The Nexus S development section is still active, if not more active since 4.2, have fun.

Hi guys,
Like the topic said I'm looking for 4.3 Roms that have pie controls in them. For some unknown reason PA always causes my phone to randomly reboot and I haven't been able to pinpoint the issue. So I'm looking to test out other Roms with pie.
Thanks in advance.

Actually, most of custom ROM´s right now implemented Pie, maybe some PA or their own implementation. The only one I know that has no Pie is AOKP or any pure AOSP variant.
:good:
PAC. It has PA Pie (the best! Why try to fix something if it isn't broken? (slim/cm)).
It has many many features too. You'll love it .

Thanks for all the replies. Might try Slim. I've tried PAC its packed with nice features, but it causes crashes for me as well.
You can also get cm pie on stock with xposed module gravitybox

Hello my fellow nexus users, from last few days I have been changing ROMs and still not satisfied with any one, I mean if I go for features then I will have to sacrifice battery life n stability, I love to use Franco kernel but it is not compaitible with the most featureful ROM I.e mahdi ROM n if I go for purity then it still lacks a lot of features, my point is till pa 4.0 is in beta stage, I feel there is no benefit of upgrading from 4.3 to 4.4.2 , I mean pa 3.99 was stable, feature full n fast enough to satisfy all my needs, I need your suggestions that shud I revert back to 4.3 pa 3.99 or stay tuned for a better rom

Yes but still missing a lot of pa features

I'd say stick with PA3.99. I mean the whole point of CUSTOM Roms is to have features that stock users dont. I still use Carbon Nightlies and still am on 4.3 JB.
When u finally have the custom features u want, Then upgrade
I use 4.4.2 with gravity box. Works wonderful and sufficient until there is a proper PA release.

Hey guys,
Is is it possible to use the newer 4.4.3 built kernels on 4.4.2 roms?
Wheneven i try to do it my wifi breaks and i have to flash a 4.4.2 kernel to make it work again.
Is there some wifi patch available to make it work?

Well i got my reason not to update, since my favorite rom isnt updated yet.
I know i can just update to 4.4.3 to get the newer kernels to work, but i just dont like to.
yea, too many kernel changes in 443. my only one experience of flashing a 443 kernel on 442 was a non boot. what rom are you waiting for?

Rastakat chameleon edition! I could use the xposed module to get the same effect as this rom (statusbar color changes) but honestly, its quite buggy that way.

My apologies, I was not aware you were waiting for a custom ROM, I thought that you were trying to flash a custom kernel for 4.4.3 on 4.4.2 stock.
