ooook,
I make a full wipe of MH8.
Install by myself all my old app, without titanium.
After I tested to restore only app data (to have back my old progress with some games ) and I have problems only with angry birds (ever version except for bad piggies), Fruit ninja, plant vs zombies.

Only games heh ...
First question you had app like app to sd on ROM from backup was taken ?
Second question those apps was moved (partialy) to sd via settings in ROM ?
Third question hardly connected to aboves - you switched USB modes ? (UMS <-> MTP) ?
Your kernel is ?
There is a lot of chance that backup was corrupted via 3 first aboves q.

If I change USB modes and restore my app again, there are any chance to get back.
Untill now I found only this app, maybe there are another.
ps: I used titanium backup.

In my opinion there is nothing wrong with ROM, but probably backup was corrupted by something ;D Im not on this ****ty sammy MGA+ ROMS with new knox, so I can be wrong !.
If I'm correct then there is no hope ;P if not then logcat could be helpful.
You can check if backup itself is corrupted. Send this one app backup (titanium backup folder -> app + app data zip) that doesn't work to some friend with android or (if you are not afraid of public way) here to test it on another ROM (you can back to your previous ROM and test it by-self but that will be HARDCORE ! )

I uninstalled broken aps, reinstalled, test and after restore a old backup (two month ago, that I'm sure was working).
Nothing, after restore I had app broken.
I'm pretty sure that is a firmware problem...

You are right !
Rom with knox changed the way of keeping data of apps, so backups will fail.
Creators of apps like Titanium Backup can in near future implement changes for knox ROMs, but I will not bet on this

Titanium Backup fail

I did a backup yesterday with TB before wiping and flashing to a new rom. After the wipe and installation of new rom(LeoMar) I realised not all my apps were backed up. So... I'm dealing with the fact that I've lost quite a significant amount of data, but I still want to know why this happened. I clearly did a full backup of apps+data on TB Pro before the wipe. After the wipe, I see that all of my apps only had 1 backup, which was a very old one ( some were the latest backup though).
Anyone got the same thing happening before?
And btw, are cwm backups and TB backups related in any way?
Thanks.

Phone memory, I do not have an external sd. (Unless the full wipe cleared the phone memory?) I ran the "backup all user apps and system data" batch operation.
Also, the weird thing is that it says that I have 287 backups, but the restore option says that I have only 228. The missing 59?

dont keep an eye on the date that is under the app. it happend to me many times - while flashing Cognition - and it had outdated flash player - i knew i made a backup of the newer version but i coudltn find it. what i did was i simple clicked on it and made restore - even the date was incorrect it gave me the option off the new version- ignore the dates. i mean app that is included in your new rom will overwrite the date in showing in titanium - even you have made a newer there will be still old one so - the date wont be acurate. so try to click on it and restore - and let me know whats happend.
sorry for my broken english

I see, thanks for the info. That solves a part of my problem, but the question of why there are missing apps still exist. It seems that I actually made the backup of my 287 apps (as verified by TB itself) but the "restore all apps+data" batch operation option says only 228. ('all apps+data' includes both apps that I already have after the wipe, and the ones I do not have yet)

Some of the rest may have been system apps, and you may not have Titanium configured to back up the app with the data for system apps?
Also, are you sure you don't have any filters set, either when backing up, or now when restoring?
almost very sure. I never touch the filter settings at all.

I think I have a vague idea of the problem now. Looking at TB again, I realise that the apps which are backed up on 9-05 (5 September, yesterday) are only stock apps (like hubs, mini diary, etc) and stock system apps. Weird. And I'm suspecting that this might be due to me clearing my CWM backup files earlier (just after wipe. Cleared the older backups, leaving the latest one. Or at least I think it was the latest...)
And I'd also like to know what a full wipe deletes. (did the wipe from cwm recovery)

+1.
I do this once a week or so. It's a good habit to get into (just like making a back-up before flashing anything...).
I think the issue is when you back up "system data" when doing backups your should stick to backing up just the user apps and user data batch operation as it is not advisable to backup and restore system data....
Ah thanks... the jargon. Never realised I could just backup the user apps. And I'll also do that backup thing from now on. Thanks for the advice guys.
And to the tip earlier about the wrong dates, you're right. An app which I only downloaded a few days ago said it was backed up on 8-14, which was impossible. As for some other apps.

Does anyone else find it very time consuming to have to reinstall all of your data after every rom wipe? I find my self never leaving a rom for awhile because of the whole set up process including the Google set up.
It takes me an hour.

I suppose Ti is best, but I haven't seen a ics friendly one available on the open seas
Nandroid? I only have 1 one my phone and thats 2.3.3 stock.
They take long to make, then they just sit there wasting space. Its not like you can just go back to them lime nothing, because by that time they'll be outdated.

Titanium is definitely ics friendly. If you have pro (or on free.. idk), set up filters with your must have apps. When you clear data ans flash a new rom, it will verify your TB account and restore settings, including filters. Just toggle the filter and do a batch restore. I was in the same boat you were til I started doing this.
And yes, TB also has a feature to restore apps or data, extracting from a nandroid backup.
•°NS4G • ICS°•
Or you could use es file explorer. Just go to the app manager button on the central screen, by pressing it it shows up all ur apps. Choose which ones you want and back them up. After flashing just restore using file explorer in the same manner...
The apps can also be found on the sdcard under backups/apps.
Astrofile manager does exactly the same job.. your pick.

just save a copy of a TB apk to your SD.
Thats if the custom rom that has a file explorer preloaded. If not has to download also from market
Another annoying thing Google doesn't add to OS besides a restart option is a built in file explorer

Wrong. Even the free one lets you create a flashable zip.
Moreover, you could make it build as a regular update.zip or even make it install as a system app or an user app.

Noob question...flashed phone for first time yesterday and performed a backup using titanium free. When I flash a new rom don't you usually have to wipe data first? Would this not wipe the backup from your phone?
Thanks in advance!
It stores a copy in a folder called TitaniumBackup. If you wipe the SD card (or storage for us) that is different.
It is a hassle having to reinstall an app like Chase that requires a confirmation text. TB (Pro for me) makes restoring login info, etc a snap. Worth the $.

Noob replying to a noob (so pardon me, if i stumble):
When flashing a new ROM, you wipe - system, dalvik cache, data and boot ( perhaps not reqd.) Wiping SD card not required when installing new ROMs, unless it's the first time, and you're putting CWR on a Nexus S... However, some developers do recommending a full SD Card wipe as well. I assume you copy the Titanium backup folders to your PC, and copy it back before restoring.. Haven't tried that yet..
---------- Post added at 11:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:49 PM ----------
Probably will have to buy Pro, since it's getting to be a pain to restore my apps, with the permissions for each one...
Somehow, TiBackup doesn't seem to restore my homescreen settings, though I remember reading somewhere that it should do that as well..
Also, learnt the hardway not to try restoring Call logs and Messages when moving from a GB ROM to an ICS ROM... Boot loops with 2 ICS roms (Nexusbeam and Brainmaster's )
So, what all can you restore using TiB with your eyes closed?
I am still new to this phone, but with the Evo we had a zip file that wiped the system, data, cache, etc instead of remembering which ones to wipe. Maybe there is something like that for the Nexus?
I only restore apps, so I am not much help outside of that. With TB Pro all you have to do is click batch and restore all the apps with data automatically while you sit there and wait. I generally restore user apps only, maybe someone else can chime in with advice on restoring settings?
There is also an option to save backups on your drop box account, but I don't.
I am a flashaholic, one of the reasons I bought a used NS4G was because I was bored with the Evo. Titanium Backup (Pro) makes it fast and easy to restore apps and data when flashing new ROMs.

[Guide] Back up your data before moving to a new rom

Back up your data before moving to a new rom
This guide is for rooted phones, and all work on my galaxy s2 but should work with most phones.
So you have decided to go for a new rom, but are worried about loosing all your apps, game saves, data, contacts, sms etc.. Well here is my little guide to restoring most of it. (Why only most, well moving to a new rom means that some apps and data are not compatible). We are going to break it down into apps to use and then the process.
Install App Extractor after you have flashed your new rom
Just a note all software that uses access the root of your phone can come with problems, although i have not experienced them my self it can still happen.
Apps
1. Rom Manager
Must have app for any root user. Make backups, flash ROMs, and own your device.
ROM Manager is THE MUST HAVE APP for any Android root user. (Over 3 million downloads and counting!)
(You can back up your rom through recover boot)
2. Titanium Backup root
Titanium Backup is the most powerful backup tool on Android, and then some.
You can backup, restore, freeze (with Pro) your apps + data + Market links. This includes all protected apps & system apps, plus external data on your SD card. You can do 0-click batch & scheduled backups. Backups will operate without closing any apps (with Pro). You can move any app (or app data) to/from the SD card. You can browse any app's data and even query the Market to see detailed information about the app.
3. App Extractor
AppExtractor is a tool which will allow you to restore individual applications, data, SMS, and MMS messages from your ROM Manager backups.
AppExtractor is compatible with ClockworkMod Recovery 5 backups as well as backups created by previous versions of ClockworkMod Recovery.
The process
1. Ok the process. First you will need to backup your whole rom, so go into Rom Manager and click on backup current rom, once it have backed up your rom you phone will reboot. ( Backing up your rom means you can revert back to it if you are not happy with your new rom)
a. You can also do a full rom backup straight from recovery mode (safer), to do this boot into recovery mode (hold - power, home and volume up). Then use the volume buttons to scroll to backup and restore (press power button to select), then click backup, it should start a full back up of your rom for you (2-3 mins to back up), once it has finished click reboot system now. Done - Thanks to MistahBungle for prompting this edit
2. once you have done that go into Titanium Backup and click menu and go into Batch. Then click on Run for Backup all user apps (dont back up system data we will soft that out later), then click run batch operation.
3. You can now flash your new rom, i am not going to tell you how to that.
4. Once your new rom is up and running then it is time to receive all that data, apps, setting, contacts etc.
5. First go to the android market and download Titanium backup and App recovery again
6. now open Titanium Backup and go back into Batch scroll down to restore and click run on restore missing apps with data. ( not all the apps will download as some won't be compatible). There you go most of your apps are now restored with their original data
7. Now go to App Extractor and open that, you will see the choice to restore things like, apps, sms and mms, contacts, wifi etc. Just click which ever you want to restore and then select the correct back up (the one you made with rom manager). You can only restore 5 items a day, and yet again not all you setting and data can be restored because of the different rom types.
8. Enjoy your new rom
If anyone thinks i have missed anything ir has more they would like to add then let me know.
Backing up EFS folder
Ok so backing up your efs folder, i am not expert in this area but everyone should know that this file is very important and rooting and flashing roms could cause it to become corrupt. So the fix trying to keep it as simple as possible like the rest of the guide, you need to download Ktook by Hellcatdroid here is a little somthing from Google Play - Tool for a few functions after rooting. Kernel dump/flash, EFS backup/restore...
/!\ Requires Root /!\
/!\ Works on the >Galaxy S2< and >Galaxy Note< *ONLY* /!\
(i) the "lock pattern bug" is currently being investigated and worked on!
kTool is a small tool originally bundled with Hellcat's Root-Kernel for the Galaxy S2.
It offers a few functions usefull after rooting the device:
- Dump current kernel to /sdcard/zImage
- Flash kernel from /sdcard/zImage
- Backup the phone's EFS (sensitive storage are holding the IMEI and other vital data) as a raw .IMG dump and a .tar archive
- Restoring EFS from the raw .IMG or the .tar backup
- Format EFS (create fresh filesystem for cases where you want to restore seperate files or a .tar backup, but the filesystem is stuck/locked in read-only due to corruption)
- Reboot (normal, directely to recovery or directely to downlaod mode)
If you encounter any problems or issues, or if you have any questions or suggestions, visit the release thread on XDA
Some people don't like this app and some like myself love it, as it says above it will only work on Galaxy S2< and >Galaxy Note, but if you check out the thread it might work for other devices.

Surely any software that exploites the root of your phone could have problems, although i will make a chasnge to the post adding that you can back up your rom from boot and that all software that uses root access can come with problems.
Everything was going great until I got to the last step, restoring sms(the only thing I cared about) with app extractor. It turned the sreen black and then it went on again, but it didn't do anything else, the sms still were not restored =(
if you ask me titanium back up does the job for it all, and if you want to make sure you get all of your apps back, just backup the apps listed in the data folder in the root of your phone.
And when your on CWM recovery might be better of using CWM manager.

+ lots this. Rom Manager *will* cause you problems if you continue to use it/have it installed with CWM. It will either break CW or cause you bootloops.
Use one or the other.
You may get away with it for a while, but when you least expect it (maybe that time you don't do a Nandroid of your last good config when you should have), it will bite you on the arse.
Edit to add - OP, I like the idea of what you're doing. Great to see a n00b having a bash But if you've rooted your phone with CFRoot or are running a kernel with CW, you're much better off using it to do your Nandroid backup than potentially causing problems with Rom Manager, which is popular because it's *easy* (apparently, I never found anything difficult about using CW). If anyone doesn't like/is too lazy to boot directly into recovery to do backups, use the CWM app. Same diff as Rom Manager without all the dramas. Other than this, good job
Great idea. I love these kind of posts no matter what others say. Knowledge sharing makes people, a better one.
My tips, but here you don't save data and use CWM and Backdrop Root aps only:
1) Do a Nandroid back from CWM.
2) Export Contacts as a VCF file. There is a new program recently Backdrop Root that backup sms, contacts, mms, bluetooth, etc in Dropbox. Try it. There is also a nice program called SuperBackup which does a similar thing.
3) Save your Apps through a File Manager as apk and save in external sd, computer or Dropbox.
4) Forget data... Many people use Titanium but I need to buy it.
5) Install new Rom, restore sms+contacts, install apps from beginning.
Apps extractor in conjunction with Nandroidback would had been the best solution, but unfortunately I didn't get a lot of success with this app.

It should work with ICS, it's only a matter of time before the apps catch up with it and they should run a smooth as they do on GB

[Q] titanium backup failed?

I have titanium backup set to sync the backup to my dropbox after it backs everything up. O have it set to do this automatically everyday at like 2am (my phone is not powered off) . I keep getting this error: com.sidhe interactive.sif.dr ? What does it mean. Also, does tb delete the backup it creates locally after uploading
It? If not how can I do this?
The backup is roughly 500mb and I have 50gb of storage

Anyone?
Why are you taking backups daily? You only really need to do it when changing ROMs
Does nandroid backups backup apps and app data?

Yes, it backs up everything except /sdcard (as we see it, technically this is a mountpoint, but that's for another thread) but that isn't an issue as you can backup those using a plan old USB cable if you really need too.

Is there a way to upload the nandroid backup to drop box in case my phone gets bricked or something?

Wow great find!! Thanks, only one more question though , I really just want my system data (apps, data, contacts) backed up and if I was to back up by having a nandroid Backup and I was too switch roms , I couldn't just restore the apps?

I'm not sure how well this would work between ROMs but you can do an advanced restore and restore only the /data partition if I'm not mistaken. I reckon it would be quite dangerous seeing as this probably includes system settings so I wouldn't recommend it unless you were desperate. The best solution is to just use Titanium and only backup when you need to (i.e. switching ROMs) rather than every day. For other things, Google can automatically sync them or you can use other backup apps (e.g. messages).

[Q] Revert back to stock?

I have been rooted for a while, and have always had a custom ROM but I wanna try going stock using xposed. How would I flash the stock image? Do I just treat it exactly like a new ROM? Or do I have to do something special or different? I normally use Titanium, but I will make both a titanium backup and a nandroid backup if I do this. Thank you for any help.

So, make a titanium backup of system and data, copy that file on to my PC, and then once I am at stock, download titanium, put it in whatever folder it was in, and i'm good?

As long as I keep all my downloads, pictures, apps and data i'm fine. Just like every time I do a bakup I do all user apps only. I meant to say internal storage not system BTW. I don't care if I keep system.
