Hi there,
I have a WiFi problem with my Sensation XE. It tries to activate but it won't and i think this is the main reason for Random Reboots and Battery Drain. Since I like to check out new things, i would like to know if there is any way to kill the WiFi from the terminal.

wlan0 is not a device for my sensation. With netcfg the smartphone shows those devices:
dummy0
lo
sit0
ip6tnl0
rmnet0 to rmnet7
I have alm those on my razr but with wlan0 also.
Have you tried updating your kernel?

Are you using the latest version of Wifi Tether that supports setting up a true AP or still using an older version that only supports ad-hoc? Last I heard Android cannot see ad-hoc networks.
You are using adhoc. Android phones can't see that

They can see that. My Droidx sees it just fine.
Hey guys,
I previously owned an htc hero and had a fantastic wireless tether app on the phone. I can't seem to find the app in the market and am wondering if i can find it somewhere on xda. I've tried everything i can find on the market but nothing seems to help. Barnacle Legacy tether works but then gives me a NAT error.
Thanks for your help.
You need to be rooted.

Seems to work great. I was able to tether and watch netflix in the car on a laptop.

Has anyone tried this on froyo? I was hoping we'd finally get infrastructure mode but I still show up as ad hoc to my laptop.

It won't be infrastructure...for it to be infrastructure it has to be configured for it by the author specifically for each device. There are plenty asking for it from Droid X to etc so we are in a long line...just wait for Official Froyo so we can get MobileAP..
Just wondering if anyone else is using the wireless tether app for their 360? I didn't think it would work since it doesn't work for wii but I just tried to connect and it worked, been playing multiplayer halo reach on it all week!
*disclaimer need the new xboxes I think, but maybe old one with the wifi adapter thing
I don't have a wifi xbox, but when My internet was down once I used my phone as wifi for my laptop, then shared my laptop's interent via cable... worked fairly well.
actually, wireless tether 2.06 should work for xbox or wii... it's in infrastructure mode on these phones. On older phones (like I came from a hero) it could only do ad hoc
I've used it for my 360...mostly black ops..but it works

i was hoping some one could help me out, or at least point me in the right direction here. I'm trying to connect through my droid x. It's rooted and i have wireless tether for root users. I've watched videos and read forums and followed them step by step. I've also tried pdanet and internet sharing through my computer and cannot get that to work either. Like i said i've watched videos and followed them exactly so i will take any help i can get. Thank you.

Are you picking up the adhoc network on the xbox?
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
i can pick up my droid x's wireless network, or atleast it shows up when i scan for wireless networks. and when i try and connect it cannot connect to "androidtether" because it cannot find the IP addresses. so as for the ad hoc networks i'm not entierly sure. I'm kinda new at this type of stuff so you'll have to fogive me. But under configure connections it shows up as "infrastructure" as other forums has said it should.
Can this be done... ?

In mine understanding, no it cannot be done.
IMPOSSIBLE. Wish it weren't true. You can spoof a mac address on a computer but the authentic one is still detectable
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
MAC address is based on the hardware I believe so unless you swap out the WiFi module, you're stuck with that address.
Although, I was able to use an nVidia utility on my old laptop to assign a new MAC address but I'm not sure if this changed the hardware value or it just used the software to THINK it was the address.
"ifconfig eth0 hw ether 00:00:00:AA:AA:AA"
This is how u do it for an ethernet card under linux.. wifi module is a source based build in pershoot if I know correctly. No idea how you can do it for wifi tho...

2nd what tbAlden said. but I doubt the busybox version of ifconfig will do it.

Just got my kindle fire for christmas and naturally put cm7 on it straight away. However my htc desire z (vision) is refusing to let me even turn on tethering. Just comes up with "error" when I try.
Any help or pointers would be appreciated.

it would be better if you give out some info... like: are you rooted? what app do you use? whats the exact error that you get?
Sorry, should have specified. Running cyanogenmod 7 fully rooted. Tried wifitether from the market and the built in system app with no avail.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
You aren't on airplane mode right? (obvious mistake)
Bad flash? Try wiping data, if that doesn't work, reflash another cm7 release.
If it doesn't work after flashing multiple roms, probably something is wrong hardware wise.
