[Q] Google Play edition Rom SD Card - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Hi there im rooted using cf auto root and i have installed a custom google play edition rom to my s4. I was wondering if there is a way to move apps to the sd card and run them like you can in touch wiz 4.2.2

Me Too
I was also wondering how to do this. I have been running Hyperdrive 10.2 with SafeStrap on my VZW Galaxy S4, but recently switched over to the Google Play edition ROM to get back that AOSP feel (was running CM10 before my screen cracked -> replacement device came updated with ME7 :crying: ...but I digress). So far I love the ROM but noticed today that I am unable to move apps to SD card as well. I would love to not 'hack' with a third party app...it surprises me that this is something a TouchWiz ROM would allow but not Google??

Custom ROMs and android marketplace

Hey all,
I'm trying to decide whether to jump into unlocking and rooting my N1 for a custom rom (now that Cyanogen's released his first beta).
I've not done this before on an Android phone--quick question:
Can you still use the Android marketplace to get apps after you've loaded a custom rom and loaded the Google apps pack? What about your already purchased apps, are they still available for you to download?
Thanks!

I have not purchased any apps, but I have had no issues with the marketplace and I have rooted and installed custom packs.
I've purchased quite a few apps and haven't had any problems with the roms that are our currently. I'm running CM 5.0 b2 at the moment. I know what you're saying though. With the G1/MyTouch, I'd occasionally come across a ROM where I'd have to chmod or use the market enabler.

Google Edition Rom

Hi all,
I noticed that the Google Edition Roms are starting to trickle in (Pulled from the Google Editions of our phone). Will we be able to flash it on our AT&T devices?
This will definitely make me flash instead of sticking with TW now. The Verge is reporting that they got a 3rd party remote app to work with their Google Edition S4!

Yes you should, just be sure to flash the att kernel and superuser zip before exiting recovery. Also, double check, but I've read you need the touchwiz version of our kernel not the aosp version which seems odd to me. From the reports I've read though, the google edition rom is very much a work iin progress. It's probably better to just wait a few days for the major s4 rom developers to incorporate the goodies into their roms.
I used the ROM that's going around for the i377m does not flash the Modem so those are both stock and the ROM runs perfectly from what i can tell so far (only been a few hours, still need to test LTE properly).
I think that the touchwize framework is still integrated deep in the ROM, it's just all the top level stuff has been removed. I've even heard reports of the touchwize camera, dialer and such working on the google edition.
Edit:
The ROM does flash the kernel, I'm using the [email protected] kernel and the phone is functioning properly.

Kitkat External to Internal Swap

i've been searching since yesterday and can't seem to find the solution to install/link/move apps to SD Card as there is no option in the Settings > Apps
I downgraded to kitkat because my sp can't handle lollipop at somepoint I dunno why because at fresh install its fast and smooth after sometime it slows down..
can someone link here where I can swap external to internal for the kitkat rom, thanks

I have literally the same concern, could you find an answer?
I guess you're trying it on an unofficial CM11 Rom, what's the situation on other CM11 based Roms? If swapping external to internal is impossible, is it because of the CM11 entirely, or the Sony XSP itself?
If swapping is not possible on CM11, what about CM12 (Lollipop) ?
I'm a Huawei Ideos X5 and Motorola Atrix 4G user and CM7.2 has the option to use the external SDCard as internal SD on both devices.
I will also be grateful if the users of XSP check my thread about this subject as well and advise:

well on lollipop i just use the Apps2SD app which creates a 2nd partition on your sd card and link apps there but the problem with lollipop roms are they're not smooth as kitkat roms somehow lag/freeze shows up after you install the apps you need, I also tried Apps2SD in an official cm11 rom and when you reboot after linking an app, it disappears even if the 2nd partition is re-mounted after the reboot. I think it's based on the rom itself and not on sony xsp.

Can I get the Google dialer on a non-rooted S4?

Hi there everyone!
I've downloaded a lot of .apk files claiming to install the Google dialer on a non-rooted S4 but so far all have failed to install. Is it possible to get this dialer on a non-rooted S4 and if so, which one should I be downloading?
Thanks for your time!
The dialer only works on Pixel, Nexus, Android One, and Google Play Edition devices running Android 6 or higher. You're running Android 5.0.1, thus the dialer will always refuse to install.
Root, then install an AOSP ROM and GApps package to use the dialer.

Thank you very much for your help!
I was told on another forum that I could not root or replace the ROM on this phone, as Verizon prevented it with the last OTA update. Is this not true?
@schwim: The fact you have a Verizon device and have taken an OTA means you can't change ROMs to a newer version. Such information would have been more helpful if placed in your initial post, but no matter. The upshot here is that there is nothing you can do that will allow you to install the Google dialer.
