anyone confirm a way to get into recovery if the phone was off? on most android its vol+down and power but when that combination it took me to a factory hard reset screen. anyone have a confirmed way to get into recovery?

Couldn't find a thread with precisely same situation - this morning I left my Iconia with WiFi off on standby with plenty of battery left (70ish %), only to just find it powered off. Now when I try to power it on, it stays in the Android boot animation and doesn't go anywhere from there.
And like I said in the title, it isn't rooted or in any other way hacked, so this is really weird. I think a factory reset would make it work, maybe, but if anyone has any other ideas I'd love to hear them before resorting to wiping.
Also I have no idea how to do a factory reset without CWM. Long press reset button doesn't seem to work?
Hold Volume Down while turning Power On?
Nope...it tries to run update.zip

A simple method for wiping is described in this thread.
Alternatively you can connect an USB keyboard, boot to recovery (vol-down + power) and press HOME on the keyboard. This will open a menu where you can select factory reset.
It got stuck at "Erasing cache" but I just shut it down and rebooted, now it started. Thanks a lot. Somehow I think I'm going to root it now and put CWM so I won't have to lose all my data because STOCK ROM crashes for some weird reason and I don't have a backup.
in my opinion u should just go ask for replacement....
I'm trying to get into recovery mode because I'm stuck on a boot loop, but I can't manage to do it. I've Googled and Googled but the only thing I've managed to find was how to get into download mode, and factory reset. All of the instructions for getting into recovery require you to use adb, but neither adb nor fastboot work for me in any of the modes I've mentioned.
So how can I get into recovery mode (or at least fastboot) without using ADB?
For future reference, since I can't seem to find a single guide out there for this:
Factory Reset Mode
Completely power off phone (hold power button until it resets, keep holding after LG logo shows up to power off)
Hold Vol.Dn + Power until screen powers on
When screen power on, release and hold Vol.Dn+Power again
Downlaod Mode
Completely power off phone (look above)
Hold Vol.Up
Connect USB Cable

the factory reset mode woks without adb, when you get to the mode press power twice to confirm doing a factory reset(it wont actually wipe your phone) and you should get into recovery

Wow thanks. That's a weird process
So even though there is a scary message up that says your phone will be wiped, it doesn't actually happen and you will just go to recovery?
I'm curious about this as well since I heard about people losing data due to this hardware button combination.

What's the difference between the factory reset mode and the download mode? I couldn't get the Factory Reset mode to work so I tried the download mode method and it worked but it took me to a screen that says "Firmware Update: Do not unplug the USB connection until the process is complete"... But it sits at 0%. What should I do?

I think download mode is to restore/update the software through LG's tools in case of corruption or something that doesn't let you get into recovery. I got the same message as you with it being stuck at 0%, but I just held the power button until it turned off. Nothing happened to the phone or my data.
And on the factory reset screen, even though it says it'll wipe everything, it actually won't (at least for me it didn't). It just took me into TWRP (recovery mode). However, if you don't have TWRP installed, then I think it actually will wipe all your data.
I think I may have bricked my phone. I have a Verizon Note 3 - rooted - running Kit Kat with Safe Strap. In the power menu (accessed when I hold the power button down) I accidentally selected boot into recovery mode. Now my phone is stuck in an endless boot loop. It powers on to the 'Note 3 - Custom' screen with blue text at the top that says "Booting recovery..." then it shuts down and starts over again and refuses to actually boot into recovery mode. I've tried taking out the battery and sim card, with no luck... the same result. Can anyone think of a way to troubleshoot given that I cant even get the phone to boot at all? Thank you.

It doesn't sound like your phone is bricked... it just sounds like you're stuck in a bootloop, which is usually fixable.
Try removing the battery again and leaving it out about 10 mins... also press down the power button on the phone for 10 seconds or so with the battery out to discharge any remaining power still in the device. Put battery back in after a bit and see if you can boot into stock recovery (by pressing volume up+home button+power button all at same time). If it lets you boot into stock recovery, see if just wiping the cache allows it to boot back up. If that doesn't work, pull battery... reinsert... boot back into stock recovery and do a factory reset (that will wipe all your data as I'm sure you know, so that's why I thought wiping cache first may be worth a try--even though wiping cache alone probably won't work). Hopefully, you have made a TWRP backup in safestrap that you can use to restore if you have to factory reset.
If you can't get into stock recovery manually.... or if you can and wiping cache or factory reset doesn't work, then you could boot into Odin mode (by pressing volume down+home button+power button all at same time), and restore the phone back to KitKat 4.4.2 with Odin. Droidstyle has put together a great guide to help restore the phone which you can find here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46461911
I hope this helps you get it fixed. Good luck!
I was reading through older forum posts and came across this thread which may help with some other ideas if you couldn't get into stock recovery to fix it with a wipe.... ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=56087194 ).
A couple of the suggested fixes in the thread may be easier than using Odin to go back to stock.
Hello guys, been a while, but I got myself into trouble. For a while I had rooted the phone but one time I rebooted and it supposedly no longer had root. Today I got a notification that magisk updated, so I decided to try it. I booted into recovery and tried to flash. Nothing happened. I tried wiping davlik cache and tried again. What ended up happening instead was that the phone was unresponsive. I attempted to reboot, but instead I got stuck in a bootloop.
I realize the most effective way to get out of it is to flash the firmware via Odin, but since I didn't make a backup I want to avoid that if possible. The problem is that other than the soft reboot (power + volume down) I cannot power off the phone to access recovery mode! I've searched and searched, but have only found ways to soft reset, which doesn't help me access recovery mode.
Is there a way to power off the phone while stuck in a bootloop? Or, alternatively, is there a way to boot into recovery while in a bootloop?
It's so frustrating to not be able to something as simple as a battery pull since the phone is sealed. Is there a way to replicate that to be able to power it off?
Any help would be appreciated.
Hold the power button for 10 seconds.

What if Vol down and power don't work, adb, fastboot and device manager don't see it, any other combinations tried too, wait for full discharge don't option. Help plz
Did you manage to get out of this?
Im really scared i bricked my phone now. Everything was working fine but after i did a normal reboot it suddenly would not start up.
Screen is black and the only way i can get a response from the phone is the soft restart (vol down + power).
I need to get into recovery somehow so i can restore my nandroid backup but vol up + bixby + power doesnt work (i assume the phone is on and frozen or something?)
I managed to fix my phone. After leaving it for 24 hours the battery was fully drained. After charging again i could boot to twrp and restore my nandroid backup.
Okay so I'm in a bit of a bind, I've been running NSS 6.5 for many months and today I decided to factory reset my phone so I can hand it over to my son. Without thinking, I factory reset from the settings menu and it took me to recovery mode. I immediately tried rebooting the system only to be forced back into recovery. I factory reset from recovery and rebooted and was forced back into recovery. I reflashed the ROM at that point, and rebooted and was forced back into recovery. I'm in a real bind here and I haven't been able to figure out how to get out of this from searching around. I'm really hoping somebody can come through for me here, I would really appreciate the help! Thank you!

Turn off the phone completely. Power on while holding volume and power. Once the lg logo shows let go of the power and press it back down. It should give you the factory reset option. Select yes yes (it won't format just take you to twrp. Once you're in twrp press system (I think that's what it's called - bottom right option). Then select reboot.
