[Q] Some problems with my new Galaxy S4 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all ,
I bought a Samsung Galaxy S4 (i9505) last Monday (I am living in France).
Before I got a Samsung Galaxy S (i9000) and I have to say that the GS4 is very impressive
But I have encountered few problems with this one...
First of all,I didn't root m GS4 and I use a stock rom,the last via OTA : BMGA (XEF).
So in Youtube app (last update) when I look HD Video (Wi-Fi) in HD Mode, I can see some (light) slowing downs.
If I look the same video, but with 3G/ HSDPA mode, I haven't any slowing down.
If I use "Tubemate" to see the same video in HD,via Wi-Fi, the video is played by the stock Video application and I haven't any slowing down.
If I download this video and I play it with the stock Video app,I haven't any slowing down.
Anyone encounters this issue or knows what is the problem?
An other problem : the camera...
When I'am recording a movie, the camera continuously tries to focus (a lot).
Is it normal?
Thank you in advance for your answers.

Please help me...

Very fun,really...

Try to format maybe solve the problems

If no one else has this problem, what do you want us to do?
We could spitball ideas til the cows come home and in the end you might still not get it fixed. Especially if it has something to do with either the app or your network...
We can't offer a fix if we don't have the same problem...

[SOLVED] Music causing hanging awhile after close wifi

Ok, here some error I met now, basically my mp3 works well, but after I open WiFi and then close it...during I listen mp3 and it will appear a bit laggy like hanging awhile for each 5 seconds and it does keep repeating unless I restart device then it works well again. Is it error from sense 3.0 after open WiFi then will crash with mp3?? And this situation happens too for phone ring tone once I close WiFi. Anyone face this problem before? I'm wondering is it my device spoil or not
I tried several ROM and this problem still same...
Also, it happens after i close the WiFi, during watching video the sound also will stop a second like that... But when I open back WiFi or restart device, everything backs to normal. Can anyone tell me the solution? Quite headache and inconvenience actually...

yes,as i have experienced this too...turning off (or forced close) viber and everything's back to normal...
you can also check if you have application running in background that auto connects to the network...

[Q] Samsung S4 somewhat sluggish and slow?

Hi, just got my S4 and have tried it for a couple of hours now.
Is it just me or is the phone somewhat sluggish and slow in the animations? Are anyone else experiencing this?
Its like it is stuttering when I open or close a program or opens the menu with my apps..
I have tried to disable some of the obvious apps that I won’t be using (chaton.. etc). But still, it has some hiccups when sliding and just using it..

*s4 over heating solved.Hey im new to XDA, I had my samsung s4 3 days ago. Original not the octa core. I have had problems with my phone over heating when im browsing or sending a text, watching vids ect. Also my phone has randomly reset a good few times, I think because its over heated. I got really frustrated and looked on line for help and found nothing.... soo I figured it out for my self.*Step 1: back up anything u need. Contacts... pictured .. vids ect.step 2. Do a factory reset and wipe everythingstep 3 set up the phone as normal. Sign in to your samsung account then google all from the set up screens.step 3. When u are all set up and have reached the home screen there will b a message at the top on the pull down notification bar saying samsung push. DO NOT CLICK AND UPDATE THIS. I have found that this is the problem with the phone over heating. If u update this then u will also get incouraged to update samsung apps + samsung hub. ALSO DO NOT CLICK ON SAMSUNG APP OR SAMSUNG HUB.. i reset my phone 4 times to try different things and this worked. I can nkw watch you tube vids. Brows the net play games ect. Yes my phone gets warm but not boiling like it used to and also my phone has not reset by its self no more. so just remember on the pull down notification bar it will say samsung push! Dont click on it, just click clear and ignore it. I have emailed samsung my solution and they said they will look into it. So do this untill they release a new update... who uses samsung push. Samsung app and hub anyway? Not me.. good luck and let me know how you get on

Hello,I have the same lag?
Anyone else have noticed this?
Yes, I've got the same problem. It took so long the other day that I missed the call completely.

anyone have an solution?
First thing I would do is a hard reset - A pain I know, but doing so you can check whether it is potentially a Hardware issue with multitouch/touch etc.
Once you've done that, if it's still exhibiting the same behaviour check your screen behaviour on touch reactions on normal day-to-day use. There may actually be an app for it. (the Note 3 suffered some touch problems, not saying the S5 has them but have to check to be sure) .
If it is deemed a software glitch and a reset fixes it then you should be OK. - However if it's a touch screen bug I'd suggest returning/swapping it.
I'm more inclined to believe it's a software glitch, and a factory reset will indeed solve the problem.
Oke,thanks
Same issue! Did a factory reset but didn't help. Send it to local service center, they keep telling me there is no issue with the phone and that when it happens I should record a video as evidence of the problem. So much so Samsung warranty! Plus I have encountered ransom reboots when answering the phone.
Totally unhappy with S5. It is terrible. S4 and S3 were very stable.

i did noticed that too..
on mine if you put directly your finger in the circle and drag it works 1st try..
i still didnt have time to hard reset to be sure..
I noticed this too. I find that you have to hold your finger on the green answer and slide slowly. It's definitely a software problem that will hopefully be fixed in an update.
Factory reset makes no difference as done this for another problem I was having.

Don't suppose anyone has found a solution to this yet? Or any alternatives to the stock dialer that might perform better?
I also get a lag between selecting a text field and the keyboard popping up which is very frustrating. Had expected more from a brand new phone
I had this problem at first as well, but after the latest update it fortunately disappeared, I did a full wipe as well.
Same problem here! Partially solved with enabling home button to accept calls....
Same here....its a pain in the ass ?

I disabled the lockscreen animation and that helped making the device more snappy. Here are some more usefull tips http://phandroid.com/2014/04/25/samsung-galaxy-s5-first-14-things-to-do/.
I also have this lag when I'm trying to respond. It only woks on the 2nd attempt.
There's definitely a knack to answering a call, which can be quite annoying. Cannot understand why they didn't just leave it alone. Would rather answer my calls with a quick swipe to the right.

Go to Settings, More tab, Developer options (if it's not enabled please google how to enable), Force GPU rendering
I found this fixed it in my S4 Black edition.
If this solution doesn't work for you then also try to clear the cache partion.
To do this, Hold power, home and volume up until the phone shows [Samsung Galaxy I9500 blah] then release only power button. you are now in recovery mode. use volume buttons to scroll to the correct option (clear cache partition, i think) and press power to select it.
Then reboot. Hopefully this will work for everyone.
Fix for screen flickering upon video playing
I just got a brand new s4 i9500. And when I play videos from YouTube, whatsapp through Samsung player or vlc etc my screen starts flickering like crazy and then blacks out.
To fix I went to developer settings and enabled a function called " Turn off hardware overlays"
This instantly solved the problem of the flashing screen during video playing.
Hope this helps.

I think it's app related. My friend had the same problem today. It started this afternoon.
People on the playstore also report having the same problem.

Their facebook app is a joke. I mean you would expect something else from such a high ranking company.
It uses a lot of resources and slows the system down. And now it has bugs.
My friend says that the app is working now for her
