Is it ok to flash stock factory image in cwm? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

As the title suggests. My friend doesn't like the new rom I put on his S4 and wants to go back to stock with root.
My question is, can I just flash a factory image from Kies(SamMobile) in CWM safely.
Please help!

Did you not make a nandroid before you flashed the rom?
And no, you cannot flash images from recovery. Those tars from sammobile are for Odin.
There is a stock rooted recovery flashable zip in the Android Development section (by scrosler)

I didn't make backup, I wasn't expecting him to not like, anyways could I use "Mobile Odin to flash then?

Well why not just get what xBeerdroiDx said... get "..stock rooted recovery flashable zip in the Android Development section (by scrosler)" this zip you will be able to flash with CWM..

Good learning experience here, no matter what you think, do, like or whatever...ALWAYS MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP PERIOD!

In need of assistance with 4.3 root

Hey there, I've recently made the purchase of a samsung galaxy S4 1337m
Once i got it home, the first thing i did was root it via Chainfires Root, and downloaded
rom manager, and installed CWM, and backed up my original OS with the original root
to a SD Card, once i did that I installed Odexed Andriod 4.3 for US and CAN, when i discovered
there was Chainsfire root guide for this version in particular, i tried to install it, what i did was attempt
to flash the latest root onto 4.3 via oden, after which i would flash the modded software to work for 4.3
however, in the process i ended up losing CWM, and the root all together, so i was wondering if anyone
was willing to lend me a hand getting the root onto my 4.3, so i can get my CWM back on.
Thanks!

I haven't used 4.3 but from what I've read I believe you just flash the .zip chainfire provided from recovery.
So now you will have to ODIN back to stock if you lost your recovery, re-root, install recovery (recommend TWRP instead), re-flash 4.3, flash the .zip provided from chainfire in his post here:

Do you know whether or not I'm able to re-flash with oden using the recovery created by CWM?
Or do i need to download the stock rom for my phone, which i imagine I would do a factory wipe
then boot into download mode then flash the stock rom?

The backup created from CWM should be a .zip that is flash-able only from recovery afaik. You will need your stock firmware .tar file and flash with ODIN. This is only if you surely cannot boot into recovery. If you manage to boot to CWM you can flash your backup of course.
Your STOCK firmware can be downloaded here:

Want to back to stock recovery

I want to back to stock recovery for my i9505 (I9505XXUBMG5 ) Malaysia (XME). MY question is where can I download only a single file to flash back to the stock recovery because I don't want to download the whole big rom file, currently I using stock (rooted) with custom CWM recovery. Is all the stock recovery from different country same? Is there any site where I can only download my (XME I9505XXUBMG5 ) stock recovery?
Please advice.
Thanks.

This is the XME MG5 stock recovery, I've transferred the Hotfile link to a premium download link so it will download quicker, flash via Odin 3.04 as PDA
Thanks a lot :good: I still got lots to learn from here
Just flash the file given to earlier.. My recovery is still the custom CWM. Not change back to stock recovery.
Please help and advice.
Thanks.

Well i kind of know the rules of XDA.
But here's the catch, i have tried that method mentioned above.
Downloaded the .tar file and flashed via Odin. And now my phone is stuck on Samsung logo forever.
That's why posted here.

Hey
You are only flashing a kernel...not a full 4.4.2 original image.
And that's why you're stock on the boot logo.
Regards.

As mentioned you are flasing only kernel, i use odin 1.85
stock 5.0.1 roms mega mirrors http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...06-lolipop-official-samsung-firmware-t3023794 thanks to @Mar10
and tar files from 4.4.2 open nordic countries thanks to @DeHAWK

XXUCNI1 https://mega.co.nz/#!1EtAWTQB!zHVAwXe3odz6ipvhZmpdSXUnTKy1w_oYRpRlRMRa6DQ
take the battery out wait 5-10 secs and enter to download mode to avoid modem issues.
its not recomendable but if you have a backup of a pit file for your phone select it and thick re-partition, this is dangerous but may help with bootloop only if flashing the firmware with no repartition work, repartition with out a pit file may brick your device.

One more noob question..
I did a back up of my touchwiz before converting to CM.
And i got the back up file as normal file folder instead a zip file.
I wonder if there is a way to restore it.
I already tried zipping it and restoring from philz recovery...but it says bad file.

you´re welcome.
did you do the backup from philz recovery? i never did a backup from recovery, only with titanium, so i really dont know, but to restore a backup needs to be done from the same source that the backup was created. for the screen shots looks like a CWM recovery backup good luck.

Sorry to bother you again.
But i am facing a new kinda problem now with custom recoveries.
After flashing NEE-I9506XXUCNJ1-20141114075501 yesterday it got auto updated to 5.0.1 lollipop .
Now i am stuck with stock recovery.
Tried to flash philz 6.x.x.x as before with odin. The odin process completes itself and reboots the phone.
But when i try to get into recovery still its booting in stock recovery.
Any solution on how can i flash custom recovery on this ?
Additional info
Baseband version : I9506XXUDOA6
bUILD NUMBER : LRX22C. I9506XXUDOA6
Flash your Favorite Custom Recovery with Odin 3.xx and put it to AP. Check that Auto Reboot isn't marked. After successful flashing your Phone won't to reboot. USB Cable out and put your Battery out and wait few seconds. Put your Battery in and reboot it to Recovery. The Stock Recovery can't now overwrite the Custom Recovery.

in lollipop i used TWRP recovery (TWRP_2.8.4.0_ks01lte_20150207.tar.md5)https://www.mediafire.com/folder/p3rwwfm7xn76x/TWRP flashed with odin 1.85 no problems.
but after rooting with cf autoroot http://download.chainfire.eu/502/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-ks01lte-ks01ltexx-gti9506.zip( extract and flash with odin in pda) because cf autorrot flash stock recovery after rooting.
Important after rooting flash immediately custom recovery, if you boot in stock recovery after root all apps will force close and you will need to wipe data (stock recovery wipe data will delete internal memory as well), so do not boot in stock recovery.

How do I backup the stock recovery for Note 3 SM 9005?

If I install custom recovery (via odin) my stock recovery will be gone right. So, how do I backup my current stock recovery.img so that I can recover it later? I was looking for the answer on many threads and most xda members suggest to use the 'fastboot' method (which temporarily injected the custom recovery and return the stock recovery immediately). But this fastboot method does not work with Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-9005. Is there any other alternative how to backup the stock recovery?
EDIT: the alternative method that I can think of is to use Flashify app. It can backup the stock recovery image but, in other to use this app, I must be root. and in other to root i must install custom recovery.. and.... yeah I lost the stock recovery.. this is the problem.

Hmmm.. here is my situation. I have the official ROM KitKat. It contains the kitkat stock recovery.img. I updated my phone to Lollipop and I believe it has updated my recovery.img to lollipop version (I found it has more options than the KitKat version). I cannot find the official ROM of my phone. My question is,
where can I find the official lollipop ROM? I just received it via OTA. Does reflashing the ROM will backup my recovery.img? I mean I want to obtain this recovery.img file.

Does flashing stock firmware from Sammobile restore stock recovery?

I just need to start fresh on my A510FD and I was wondering if I could simply flash the stock firmware to get rid of TWRP. I have a backup of the original recovery. The question I'm trying to ask is: can you remove TWRP by flashing stock firmware or do you need the backup of the original recovery. If not, could anyone provide me with some instructions on how to flash my stock recovery? Thanks a lot everyone!
